Thank you Sir. I was able to perform this fix tonight on our DC40. Changeover hose, 2 new filters and a good cleaning! The vacuum is currently working like it’s new again. You directions were great. I owe you a beverage.
I only saw one filter. Are there two? I have a model DC40.
@steverose2405 the second filter is in the top of the cyclone. Lift the handle up.
Thank you for the quick no nonsense guide. Saved me an hour of figuring it out myself.
I recorded a better version it’s in the description
Thanks! The local repair guy said he couldn’t get the part anymore and he tried to sell me a new one. It took a while with all my obligatory backtracking, but its working great!
He's partly correct. The dyson supplier that us vac shops get our parts from is at the complete bottom of the supply chain for Dyson parts. Dyson stores, and internet retailers get first pick of the supply of parts which means us small guys have nothing to left to buy in regards to dyson parts. I have had to resort to buying these off amazon myself and just charging my customers a small convenience fee plus labor.
Thank you so much! This was exactly what I was looking for. My vacuum is working perfectly now.
Thank you so much! I was able to fix my mother's DC40 so now I have one less thing for her to complain about!!
Mate! Just saved me from buying a new hoover. Absolute star, thank you sir
Thank you.
Excellent. Very fast changed service parts my self. Thank you so much
Wish you were close by but I'll try using your video. Those Torx8 & 15 are proving a bit difficult to come by.... Thank you for taking time to make and post this helpful work.
Thanks. Great help
Thanks a bunch this helped fix my issue
Thank you for the video. We replaced the hose and our vacuum is fixed. Thanks for sharing the how to.
By the way, your video was the best I found and helped me get the piece out. Thanks again! Peggy
Thank you!!! This helped me switch the part out
You're welcome!
Thanks!
Well done thank you!
Awesome video 👍
Great job, 15 minutes and I’m up and running. Thank you!😅
You saved my stupid behind - a cracked hose and a piece of 12 gauge wire were almost going to cost me a new Dyson. Thanks!!
Helpful video👍
Brilliant! Thanks for this, I have a working vac again
Glad it helped
Thank you very much,great video
Hey, thank you so much for this video. I was gonna throw the vacuum away and because your video able to get it back up and running thank you.
Thanks a tonne sir
Thanks that saved a lot of frustration.
Life saver.. ty 🙏
This video, while not perfect, was definitely good enough to save me a significant amount of time figuring how to take this thing apart. You have my sincere gratitude.
Thank you. Got it fixed. Those small screws are easy to strip... A bit more of a warning maybe?
thanks for pointing that out. that's helpful.
Anytime you're working with small screws like the ones here, be careful how much torque (twisting force) you apply. With Phillips screws especially, make sure you have the correct size head, cuz those little guys will strip even easier. At least with torx, the chance of stripping is much lower.
Nice.. but, You should slowly, gently back-screw with slight pressure by hand ... searching for the original threads in the "plastic" supports... when your screw reaches the original thread, it will suddenly drop... at that moment you can screw it in, without starting a new, weaker set of threads in the plastic. especially when re-mounting the filter support assembly with those 4 screws you ran in with the motor driver... :-) (But then, it probably has a torque-limit adjustment)
It does have a torque limit. Thanks! Appreciate the feedback!
Thanks, you've made this look like something I could try, even if I have to buy more tools. What size screwdriver do I need for the small torx screws?

@@richardsvacuumcenter thanks very much!
I called the Dyson service phone number today and was told that this part is not available for purchase by an owner of a Dyson vacuum. It can only be repaired at a Dyson Service Center.

Hey, Very informative. Okay, I have the shredded change over valve hose out. I don’t have a manual. I’m not sure which replacement part is correct for my DC40 13 year old upright vacuum with purple cyclone. I see so many that look like mine, but when I read reviews sometimes they don’t fit. I’m not sure which one I should get. How do I determine correct size for mine? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Peggy

That’s one of the pieces I was looking at…..just needed confirmation from someone who knows more about this stuff than me. Thanks again!
Watch the plastic tab the spring attaches to. Mine broke off - not sure if it is fixable now?
Was able to drill a small hole, and insert a small screw to hold the end of the spring - works fine now
Thank you so much for this video- we have a multi floor2- will this repair also work for this vacuum? I have tried finding the replacement part but I am unable to find it. Could you please assist me with this
You’ll need to find out the exact model number first. Multi floor 2 isn’t the model number. There is a sticker on the vacuum behind the dirt cup and the model number will be to the left of the bar code and it will start with either the letters “DC” or “UP”
Can they make it any more complicated to change the hose that easily breaks?
I’m sure they can! Lol
Very helpful. Camera placement could be better in parts.
Thank. I reshot this repair and the link is in description
Thanks so much. Do you have the part number for that hose?
Just updated the description to contain the link for the part. Thanks for asking!
Hi. What size tools are required for the job and what tools do you recommend on Amazon UK? Thanks
amzn.to/47vqnDH
I can't seem to get the black retainer clip to tighten without popping off. What am I doing wrong?
hmm did you make sure the hose slid in all the way? is it the part I show at 1:59?
hi can anyone send me a link to this part of the valium please as all im getting is the other hose bit ,a bit further down,i need this part thats being shown on video thanks.
Check my other video as the camera work is better and more clear. Vacuum repair man shows how to replace a Dyson DC40/UP19 COV hose

It also has the link for the cov hose
At 2:00, you removed a retainer, but didn't show it to the camera before setting it aside. It appeared to be about twice the size of my retainer, which I think is broken. I bought a parts kit for the changeover, but the retainer is not included. What to do next? Look for more parts.
Can you be more specific. At the time stamp you included I merely removed the cyclone. I’m not sure what you’re asking.
You are taking the screw out of the hose retainer at 1:57 and holding the retainer at 1:59. My retainer looks different, but I determined that it is not broken. I put a new changeover mechanism around the hose that I purchased from Amazon; one of those hollow plastic shafts had broken. I have it back together; all is good. Thanks. I liked your video so well the time that I replaced the hose that I sent you a tip. @@richardsvacuumcenter
@@steverose2405 glad to hear you got it fixed! Thank you for the tip! always appreciated!
Thanks. Solid steps, but half the time the action is off camera
Yeah sorry about that. I wasn't aware when I was shooting and then I edited later after I sent the repair out only to realize this! Facepalm. I intend to reshoot part of this the next time I have one of these in the shop!
I gave you a thumbs up, but you could do a better job of aiming your camera. Thanks for the help.
Check the link in description. Thanks
Really unfortunate your camera was out of view to how to fix it!
I recently posted a reshoot of this video! I’m sure it’s of no use to you now but I have noted these critiques! Thanks
It’d be nice if 80% of the screen wasn’t the carpet, but oh well
And it’d be nice if just 1% of your comment was grateful for a random stranger who is sharing helpful information on how to do something yourself and save money….In the description you’ll notice that I have reshot this video and posted the link.
Might be helpful if you kept your work in the viewing area. 5:51
thanks. I'm aware. It was one of my first videos so it was a rookie mistake. I've re recorded another one of these repairs, just haven't edited yet :)
Please put in frame
please check my description. I reshot this video.
Terrible video. Mostly the part he was working on wasn't in the picture...
Fair comment. But was it helpful for you to solve your issue? Any gratitude for deciding to share the content in the first place?
@@richardsvacuumcenter there will always be haters. They just want everything to be completely perfect, even when it's free and at least informative enough to get one started. If you can't at least partially figure how to go about fixing things, then maybe you should just pay someone. You can ignore these folks. The sense of entitlement is baffling.
Thanks!
Thank you.
