Yes WAY better looking with the solid colors and no cheap plastic-dye like they started using in the 90s. Side by side the rmz plastic looks like they used cat pee .. BTW when I watched this I farted and it resonated perfectly with the rmz exhaust note.
Cool video! I have a 1984 RM125 that i got a few years back for $300. Looking to buy something newer this spring so i have been saving up. It's been a great bike for the time being.
I bought a near new rm250 in 1986 and it was a beautiful piece of gear, It probably wasn't the fastest 250 but it was the most ride-able, It was only a couple of month old when I purchased it, it had been a practice bike for a local works rider, it didn't have the raw power of the Yamaha with the power valve but it was an awesome bike to ride, smooth and a nice feel.
Especially the old Suzuki’s I have a 1987 rm 125 gettin a top end rebuild right now and I can’t wait to shred when it’s done it’s so fast and it’s gonna be faster with a fresh top end and lectern carb
I had a rm250t, rm125x, rm125d, rm250f, rm250g, and numerous others, my fave was the 250g, so smooth and torqy, just felt like the right bike for me, I also had a lot of fun on the 125;s, you can go fast on a125 don't worry about that, they realy boogy if you hold them flat.
I had a 86 RM250G too back in the day it was a great bike had a great motor and once the suspension was set up it was really competitive. I'm just restoring a 86 YZ250 now, this will be interesting.....
Can anyone tell me why in the old videos they pro riders of the time looked like the fought these bike so hard and modern riders on the same old bikes Lok so smooth?
@Mike Fernandez Agree. I was racing the 125 pro class that year on a Yamaha and midway through the year was offered a support ride on the Suzuki and stuck with the Yamaha. Big mistake. The Suzuki was by far the best 125 that year.
@Mike Fernandez No I was on a Yamaha 125 in 80 and 81. Mid way through 81 Yamaha offered me support to ride the 250 class as well as the 125 so I stayed with them. 82 it was 250 only for the most part but I did race the open class too for some of the big CMC and CRC series. After seeing what the factory guys at Honda were riding in 82 the writing was on the wall that in 83 that's what you would want to be riding. I was pumped.
funny how bike technology hasn't really advanced in the last ten years, the only thing different is Air forks, which nobody likes... I think 2008-2012 was when the best dirt bikes were made... they've gone downhill slightly from there...
This dude was a master of the starts back in the day. Gotta say, he looks damn good for a 50+ year old....
I knew a 50 year old guy once.
Really shows you how much better forks have become, but got to love the sound of that 125!!! 2 strokes for life!!!!
my first dirt bike was a 1987 rm125.. Sweet I never thought I'd see her on youtube..
I have one currently
@@motomax7130 could be my old one. Haha
just got one and blew it up after 30 minutes. new oversize piston coming in tomorrow and i already got the cylinder bored
is it just me or are the 30 yo 125 better looking ?
Some yes, some no. The '87 Suzuki is not one of the better looking ones. I hated the blue engine when it came out, and I hate it now!
No it's not just you
Yes WAY better looking with the solid colors and no cheap plastic-dye like they started using in the 90s.
Side by side the rmz plastic looks like they used cat pee ..

Christer Stefansson sound is way better
I liked the blue motor, I like blue bikes even better though Yamaha 👍
Great 125 bro, i just got finished resurrecting my dream rm125, 1980 last of the twin shock bikes. Keep the RMs alive dudes!!
That 1987 RM125 is WAY cooler than any lame RMZ250.
....and the RM-Zed is perhaps the best looking of today's style.
Sure is that’s why at 50 I’m getting rid of my rmz450 for one 👍
Nah the RMZ rocks ! Own a '20 RMZ250 w/Yoshi pipe its a dream on any track!
Great to see Scott Burnworth, ride these bikes!....👍
Once again it shows that all things being reasonably equal, it’s the rider that makes the difference.
Yeah I have this bike but I suck ass at offroad riding. If I feel like sending it i just find a twisty road😂
Great to see the burner back on a bike!
Cool video! I have a 1984 RM125 that i got a few years back for $300. Looking to buy something newer this spring so i have been saving up. It's been a great bike for the time being.
I have an 87 CR 125 and it will hold it's own against any newer 125 hands down
It absolutely, categorically will not. Thats a ridiculous statement.
I’ve had them all over the years 4strokes are so much more forgiving and easier to ride in my opinion
But the smiles always bigger on the 2 smoker.
I restored a 1987 RM125. Its a great bike. Not near as fast as a KX or CR of the same year but a fun tame bike for a rider of my age.
Yes you´re right ! The 1987 rm was a little bit "slow". Main problem was the poor exhaustsystem and the powerrange of the engine...
The 82’ ripped and was 125 of the year
Love the Jofa mouth guard. Best part of the video.
Scott was wicked fast. I know when he would show up at my local track I was not planning on 1st place money.
I am the worlds best 😄
Both great in their own way. .

I'd take the 125 any day.
That was a cool video. Obviously different bikes, but having Scott out there was pretty cool. Glad he still loves moto.
Now lets see a 1987 CR500 vs a 2017 CRF450
DirtRider500R 450 will win
Burner still rips. Great style.
Love the eighties rm's. 1987 Suzuki really nailed it.
I would take the 87 RM over the the RMZ anyday of the week and twice on Sundays.. old school 2 strokes still rock it!!
Especially the old Suzuki’s I have a 1987 rm 125 gettin a top end rebuild right now and I can’t wait to shred when it’s done it’s so fast and it’s gonna be faster with a fresh top end and lectern carb
@@bradleyjr.mikulecky9758 post a video of it when your done please.. love to see it..
If parts and finances weren't a concern I'd choose a restored vintage bike every day of the week, and than twice on Sunday..
I love these videos keep them coming!
🔥🔥🔥💪💯RM125
AWESOME!
Nice track ! :-)))
sick comparison!

@@stigstingray2256 I love the 86 YZ "S" models ! Even though l was on a KX80 in 86..
How is your resto coming along ?
I have a rmz450 at 50 year old and although it’s a great bike I’m thinking of selling it and buying what I had at 16 a rm125 two stroke ❤️
Im 54 and now ride a 1998 KTM 125 exc. It's faster than I am.
Burner is still fast!
Has the seat height increased on newer dirt bikes? I had a 1992 YZ250 years ago, and when I sat on a 2017 YZ250 last year it felt way taller.
Funny that 20 years of bike development didn't make him on bit faster on tha litpro data! :D
TeKaMOTO
30 years
Yes. I was apparently using alternative facts. :D
TeKaMOTO if there were any large jumps the 125 would be at a disadvantage just from a safety and comfort standpoint
how do you figure? if its built right you wont have to worry about it falling apart on you
4 stroke like riding a couch
Why's the onboard cam in 4:3 ratio?
Sheesh, is it just me or did the RMZ sound super throaty for stock?
Sounds like ALL 4 jokes....crap !!! Long live 2 Strokes !!!! :)
So I just got this exact bike for 220 bucks literally everything is there just needs top end rebuilt did I get a good deal on it?
Yes I got mine for 800 and it blew up 30 minutes after I got it on the ride home😂
The old RM has had plenty of engine and fork work done obviously and the rear shock looks like it's off a newer model mx bike
Both are Artifacts
Duhhhhh
We did he get that pro circuit fatty exhaust at?
What brand of helmet is he wearing?
do a 1977 xr 75 vs a 2018 rmz 450
Kind of odd seeing the full retro kit, but he rides with a modern style, front wheel low.
How the fuck is Scott that slim still...and still quick as fuck...so unfair
Is the rm 125 1987 difrent from the rm250 1987 as iv got distracted brake on back of mine? Does anyone know ps am in up
Can anyone tell me why in the old videos they pro riders of the time looked like the fought these bike so hard and modern riders on the same old bikes Lok so smooth?
Wish you guys would get ahold of a 89 rm125
Huge improvement over the 87-88 rm.
Red is the only way to fly
Jack Atchison if your on crack yeah
*you're
corinful if you want to win rides, have fun, earn money and pick up chicks, you'd ride red!
the oldest bike I've ridden is an 81 RM125.
@Mike Fernandez Agree. I was racing the 125 pro class that year on a Yamaha and midway through the year was offered a support ride on the Suzuki and stuck with the Yamaha. Big mistake. The Suzuki was by far the best 125 that year.
@Mike Fernandez Well I lucked out and 82 was my last year on a Yamaha and then I got a pro support ride with Honda on a 250 and life was good.
Suzuki for the win!
lets be honest... we dont buy new bikes because we are fast enough to need the best, we just want to look sexy
Scott just had a birthday
it's weird how everybody's birthdays are this year
Bob Hannah came out a retirement destroyed everyone on a 87 rm125
for fuck sakes ride that bike!!!
That litpro shows it's rider, not bike.
Buy a 92 RM 250, ti will smoke that RMZ 250.👍👍👍
Just sold my 89 rm 250, gave it away for 1100....oh well😖
Cool guy, but he says "you know" a lot.
So he just as fast if not faster on the 87 RM125 as the 2017 RMZ250, so says the gps tracker. HHMM!
Michael Nimmons if the track had any large jumps it'd be alot different, besides that the bikes are pretty equal
Tim Allen Thank you! The point that I was making is that the "inferior" 2 strokes can still perform well with the new models.
Disk back brake
I’m surprised he said the suspension was good lol
More proof that 4 strokes r gay
so be quite then
I gotta let u rip on my 86 rm250g
1987 was the last time Suzuki updated their bikes. 😭
When girls sat get you a guy that can do both
funny how bike technology hasn't really advanced in the last ten years, the only thing different is Air forks, which nobody likes... I think 2008-2012 was when the best dirt bikes were made... they've gone downhill slightly from there...
Everybody likes new KTM air forks...
toadamine agreed that's why I'm keeping my 2009 kx250f I want to stay carbureted
2-strokes peaked in the late 90s i feel like
yeah a 125 is not a 250. lets race a 125 two stroke and a 125 four stroke?
Nice bike. So we all have to pronounce ' Z ' as Zee now ? Well, we don't want to be branded a terrorist I guess...
The sound of the 4 stroke has given me aids
Unfortunately, I owned an ‘87 RM125 for about two months. It was the biggest POS I’ve ever ridden. I went straight back to racing my CR500.
Boy that second bike got real boring, real quick.
Sure the 250 is a faster, better bike, but it looks and sounds so boring. The 125 is like a fire cracker.
