Exactly my brother you get it brother, nowadays I see so much cash throw into trucks and most looks like “destroyed a classic truck “ but this thing looks brilliant and it does phenomenally what it’s supposed to ....”have lots of fun with it “
I am a photographer as well and my dad and I jointly have the same truck would love to find the copy you shot for of the magazine and show him this youtube video and the magazine to see what he thought. Though we could never afford to do all the modifications that have been done here (ours is pretty much stock) it's fun to look to it for inspiration.
Really showcases just how good the 302W is. It is a natural lover of high revs. Surprising that they used it in such a heavy unit too. Would love to see this RED SCORPION in 4x4 though.
That's what a pre runner should be, classy, bad ass, I love how reto it is. Rocking the legendary ford twin I-beams, the body is basicly un touched it's beautiful. I'd love to build one of my own.
Big Muscle with MIke, and Roadkill with Frieburger and Finn are my my 2 favorite shows. Mike,I just went and rewatched your vid about your Charger (which is absolutly drop dead gorgeous), and let me say, from car guys (and gals) all over, thank you for getting out the finacial scene and bringing your down to earth presenting style and great show to us. You will always have followers and fans as long as you keep your recipe simple like it has been, nice, honest, down to earth, and the most important part, genuine. I hope Big muscle stays around for a long time. great show, Great presenter.
Best video ever guys! Look at that suspension, very cool. Love the way he let you drive it with no questions, or instructions! 'Like driving a half-empty waterbed' lol.
David MuscleGuy If you want underrated I recommend you the autoedit channel. They're a ton Drive quality videos with pretty much no views in comparison, and some of them are truly great. Mike Musto gets some recognition at least, that guy gets none. There's a channel called Hooniverse which is also good and not that popular.
I agree... Mike's videos make me feel like I'm riding next to any buddy of mine who's giving me his opinion on a new car his driving. 'A really cool dude.
This is the most beautifully, stereotypically American test on the entire channel. Mid aged white guy driving a lifted truck through the desert lol I love it here.
I can remember riding in the back of my dads old truck just like this, of course it was a little more beat up. Had a shop made front bumper with a winch. We would go on this road called Yellow Dog Road that would always flood a foot or two deep for about quarter mile when the Mississippi River backwaters came in western KY. This video brings back good memories.
I think it's awesome that American cars are getting out more in the world, and that foreign vehicle enthusiasts are starting to appreciate American made vehicles. Japan is known for their tuners and good street racers, Europe for their luxury cars that pack power plus finesse, and for their legendary exotics. America is rather divergent from the rest in the sense that American cars and trucks pack raw power in a big, heavy package which is more fun to throw around than to just be a fine-tuned precision instrument. American vehicles are different, but they're still beautiful in their own unique way.
cybertree *I did something similar to this with my 1996 XLT FORD BRONCO (5.7L).* (You've NEVER had fun until you've driven a four-link. Only I had 40''x12.5's on short gears.) Pretty much put a trophy truck under it, *the idea was to be able to be the dukes of hazard while keeping the body intact...and I succeed ;D. It's my fun-mobile.*
I believe that truck was on craigslist in the Hesperia Ca area ?? For like 10kish about 5-6 years ago. I remember considering it as a build candidate. Glad its getting used righteously.
ttb works awesome with extended radius arms. I ran that way for a while. then switched to cage off Rd radius arm solid Axle swap kit. now called bloody knuckle garage. excellent stuff really tough.
This was so awesome. The only tiny thing that would make that truck cooler was if it was a double grill. But that's just me. Man oh man do I want a pair of mid 70's double grill F-100s one to do up exactly like for off road that and one just as capable on a racetrack. I would trade my Sonett III for a pair of '76 100s!!
Come to Australia!!!! I bet we got more muscle cars the both dubi and America combined!! But if you do come .. Come when either Summernats are on or Bashernats .. Look em up you'll be impressed
I love all these old american icons that they got over in the middle east, but i cant help but feel just a little sad that they have been taken away from their homes in the good ol' usa.
***** Don't think of the US losing them, think of them spreading the US ingredient to other countries. There will always be Mazdas in Japan, VWs in Germany and Fords in the US - but as Mike said, if we want to bring this world together, we need to cross-fertilise and learn from one another. Cars as ambassadors ;)
YensR Totally agree with you ! I love american cars since i was a child. I got two of them and I hope to move to US one day and bring them back to their home.
It’s Not A 72 . I Swear They Make It Up When They Really Don’t Know.. Ill Bet Ya Patty’s Prize Pig 🐷 That’s A 68-69 No Way It’s A 72.. yep patty’s Pig 🐖 .. Bet Me Show A Title Says That’s a 1972 F-100
I totally have that issue of off Rd. I've got a 88 bronco with d60 front N sterling 10.25 rear welded with 4.10s. 4spd np435 Trans with a Windsor 408cu. it's up on 18x39.5x15 boggers. building a 78 bronco for my daughter. it's got a 400 and a 4spd np435 original truck. d44 front N 9 inch rear. brits 13yrs old she was giving the bronco by a lady who loves Broncos. brit was 5 N grabbed the newest issue of bronco driver N the lady gave brit her own 78 bronco. ford people are awesome.
me and my dad rebuilt his old 85 bronco he had when he met my mom, he sold the truck and a friend bought it at auction and we got it back almost 3 years ago, it now serves it's life as a rock crawler with the factory ford i beam ifs Dana 44 with a 9 rear, 456 gears, and a 351 roller motor with a holly projection. that beast is fun to just punch and do a pull from 1st to 2nd

Jesse Hires Probably just going off what it was titled as. Also remember badging and such isn't a dead giveaway anyone could have always added that stuff.
Cragified You are correct about the badging. A few things about it... The grill is definitely a 1967 or 1968. Only years they turn signals were enclosed. The red badge on the grill is a "Ranger" badge which was the luxury edition of this pickup. By 1972 only the Sport Custom was available. The hood says F100 on it. The badges on the hood are easy, the grill is a bit more difficult, but can be done. It is a shortbed pickup. F250 was only a longbed configuration. The bolt pattern on the wheels is 5 bolt. F250 would have been 8 bolt. Now that I've said all that, the amount of modification that was done on that pretty much negates anything I've said. My guess is that it is a F250 cab/title/VIN whereas the frame, front clip, and bed were from a donor rig. The rest (suspension, drivetrain, etc) is all custom.
Jesse Hires Have to remember titles in the U.S. which is were it was bought from go by the frame. Which was tubed front to back which means the whole body was off it at one point. It is most likely a 1972 frame with a 1967-68 body on it.
***** For unibody construction today which is fairly standard the unibody shell is the frame which the VIN is attached to. Title follows the VIN. So if you get a new shell as the term is used and put all your current vehicles other parts into it the new shell has it's own separate title. Basically the title always follows the chassis which is what holds the vehicle together and to which all other parts are attached. So if you pick up a car at a salvage yard to use for the 'frame' you'd get what is called a salvage title. Regulations also follow the frame or shell. Which is why you can take a 32 roadster frame and put a modern engine and drive line into it and have no exhaust or seat belts because at the time of that frame's construction such laws were not in effect.
HAHA I just watched the Mustang video...its awesome you did one on the truck!!!!!! Makes me want to live there and be friends with that guy. Can you just drive off road anywhere out there?
This is an amazing truck. I'd like to know who's it is. I have a bunch of questions to ask. I have a 76 Ford F150 2wd that I'd like a suspension under it like that truck. Please let me know I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
If you know about the f100 or any truck with I beam suspension you are a true car enthusiast. Solid axel and a arms have their place but that I beam suspension is just so damn durable and tough. Put it behind some American V8 muscle. This is a true drivers car. Nothing but fun.
*I did something similar to this with my 1996 XLT FORD BRONCO (5.7L).* (You've NEVER had fun until you've driven a four-link. Only I had 40''x12.5's on short gears.) Pretty much put a trophy truck under it, *the idea was to be able to be the dukes of hazard while keeping the body intact...and I succeed ;D. It's my fun-mobile.*
Only way to improve on that truck is to install a Dana 44 up front, posi both differentials, and a transfercase to make it the 4 wheel drive it should've always been....
when the logo on the hood says F100, with the 6.5' bed that came only on F100 or crew cabs you still call it a F250. The 302 while warmed up is not BIG MUSCLE! Beautiful truck- took a lot of time and money to make it fly.
This needs more Mickey Thompson, the tires seem inadequate. How about cutting out of the chassis for 44" Baya Claw? The weight of the car won't make float enough in loose sand or snow. Living in Iceland, 35" is the bare minimum for anything snow or off-road related. Hell, i run 35" Dick Cepek on my everyday car.
Justin Kady Sorry, I always measure it by how well it will perform in deep snow. :) It also looks proportionally a little off with those small tires. I had something like this in mind: /watch?v=HR44MgsipGY
I love how simple this truck is. I was expecting some crazy engine with crazy suspension, but it seems like a fairly affordable and simple build.
Exactly my brother you get it brother, nowadays I see so much cash throw into trucks and most looks like “destroyed a classic truck “ but this thing looks brilliant and it does phenomenally what it’s supposed to ....”have lots of fun with it “
A vehicle that can make a grown man laugh and giggle that much, must be one hell of a fun time.
I shot that truck for Off-Road Magazine a few years back. Good to see it's still alive and well!
Jordan May Would love to know what issue it was featured in! ty
+Mekhanic1 Same here! I just picked up a 68 and would like to build it up to a similar spec as this!
+Mekhanic1 august 2009 sand sports magazine. i still have the original copy. now i just wish sand sport magazine was still around.
Finally not another LS swap. Boys in the middle east know how to do it.
pafman123 We got hustle too brother! Keep it pinned :)

Finally some offroad! Now if we could get Mike in one of our cars and see how he enjoys it.
MoltenMotorsports Send me your info! drivebigmuscle@gmail.com
MoltenMotorsports I was wondering also how he'd do in a real strong offroad machine. It's probably best to start with that Red Ford to get the feel.

I'm convinced those KM2's are the best all around tire you can use! I love mine!!
man, this desert/ford truck combo, seems like a rollercoaster!
Glad to see you enjoyed driving a Prerunner!! After building mine, I can't go back to a normal car. Come out to glamis if you ever have the chance.
Damn, those control arms!
Mike that truck was so awesome...I hope you had fun. This video made me miss my 71 Bronco

HOLY SH*T! I love this truck. I have owned the same 1984 F150 XLT since I was 15. How much would it take to get my rig up to these standards???
never had a full size four wheel drive
have had some badass limited-slip 2-wheel drive full-size trucks
this is really neat
nice!!!! beautiful sloppy f- series! twin beam action!!!!👍👍
That was epic !
I hope to see /Big Muscle in Europe ...
Best episode yet. That kicks ass.
I love how the fenders guards are stock ❤❤❤
I love this year and the sound
Words of wisdom, car guys are car guys! We will all find the time you spend with anyone that we have in common than we think.

Reducing air pressure in the tires would help with sand traction a lot. or better yet get some paddles for that thing. Wont get stuck as easy then
hahaha, fantastic. Been looking forward to this all week long!
Where do I go to get the parts to build one like that. That thing is fing awsome!!!
Such a gnarly truck! I have a 94 bronco and I wish I could get it to destroy hills like this!

You called it a 1972 f250, but badging and grill indicates it is a 1968 Ranger package F100.

Matt Leonard
I mean it spends more time in the air than in the bottom of the pan : )
ok...
+michaelovitch not really... and the ones that actually do drive that hard have dry sumps. but thats not why, nor is it usually an issue.
nope youd be surprised by how good it stays even with a wet sump

that must be an epiclly awesomely tuned 302 to be running like that.
im not into more than minimal modifying a vehicle but I think i like this.

Did you ever find it? Apparently the lyrics are from a Turkish balad about a girl called Sunam I think?
I would also like to know

how does he have all the steering stuff behind the I-beams?
when the logo on the hood says F100, with the 6.5' bed that came only on F100 or crew cabs you still call it a F250. The 302 while warmed up is not BIG MUSCLE! Beautiful truck- took a lot of time and money to make it fly.
