  • Jeff Lynne produced Hank Marvin's 1993 solo version of "Wonderful Land". This is the Shadows performing the song on the BBC television show "It's Cliff Richard" in 1970. First broadcast 31st January 1970.
    “Wonderful Land” is an instrumental piece written by Jerry Lordan and first recorded and released as a single by The Shadows in February 1962. It stayed at number one for eight weeks on the UK Singles Chart, a feat only Elvis Presley (in 1960), the Shadows and the Archies (in 1969) managed in the whole of the 1960s.
    The Shadows were a popular English instrumental rock group in the late 1950s and early 1960s. They started as the backing band for Cliff Richard, who was known as the British Elvis Presley. The Shadows had many hit singles, such as "Apache" and "F.B.I". They were famous for their smooth and twangy guitar sound, created by Hank Marvin on his Fender Stratocaster.

    This is not the 'original' version. It's a re-recording for the Cliff show and poor by comparison

      What did you want them to do ,mime to the original record? They couldn’t do that because Bruce Welch had left the Shadows in 1968 ,so they wouldn’t have been allowed to mime to a track with Bruce playing.

    • @hoffersmusic815
      @hoffersmusic815 6 месяцев назад

      @@peterwilliamson2488 that's not live anyway as a couple of notes Hank is using a volume pedal and there's not one near his feet! Of course they can mime to a track Bruce was on. They mimed to their tunes during the sixties that various members had recorded but had left the group.

      It is the shadows, they toured without Bruce for a period of time with Alan Hawkshaw on keyboard instead. Brian Bennet is on drums and the great and late John Rostill on Bass.

    The worst sound. They miss Bruce Welch on rhythm. Insipid.

    • @Bluebell946
      @Bluebell946 11 месяцев назад

      Agreed Bruce would add to the mix greatly….insipid? I guess that is subjective and wholly dependent on the listener. I for one quite like this version as an alternative. My fav version being the one without strings, this is because the drum break is far more powerful in that version.
