One thing I forgot to mention: The reasoning for the length (7’4”), it’s because it is slightly longer than average which leads to longer casts, and more leverage on the hookset and getting the fish back to the shore/boat. You could broaden this specific rod and reel combo to 7’2” or 7’6”, but I think for every angler 7’4” is the best average
I’m glad I watched this video. I was almost not gonna watch it just cause I seen SO MANY like it. But I was heavily watching KVD and he talked about THIS EXACT SAME COMBO / SETUP! And I wanted it. Turns out I actually found a Great video and camera angle, and ACTION PACKED Fishing RUclips channel creator. I am glad to say I: Liked, commented AND SUBSCRIBED! This channel is how I like to watch and see the action out on the water. …I am going fishing right now.
I love that your "high end" combo is a $130.00 Rod and a $300.00 reel whereas most other channels, a "high end" combo is a $450-$600 rod and a $250-$500 reel.
Thanks for showing us the links with the various pricing levels. Really helps me to know what to buy in the sea of options. I'll use your link to help you! Thanks again!
Great video. I've been on the fence with a heavy rod thinking I don't need one but i think theres a lot of heavy cover around me that I've just always walked past since i had lighter rods
Right now my absolute favorite rod that I have is a 7’3 medium heavy and a 7’4 heavy. Both by Lew’s of course because that’s all I’ll use but I feel like I can take those 2 rods and those 2 only anywhere in the world and be ok honestly. I mean there’s very very very few things that I can’t do on those rigs. Awesome video brother. I literally have that exact combo. It’s my work horse.
I love my 7’3 heavy too though...that’s what I’ve been throwing my Texas rigs on for a few months now. I was throwing a t rig on just a 7 foot MH and that’s fine and dandy but dude the 7’3 heavy makes throwing that t rig soooo much more enjoyable and easier. More confidence too.
Love my Lew’s combos! I realize sponsors are super important for anyone in the industry, but for those who are on a super budget Bass Pro’s brand has some solid reels by Johnny Morris around the $100 mark that can be used w braid if $ is tight! I use Lew’s Daiwa, Shimano, and my main frog reel is a Johnny Morris 8:1 and it works fantastic, so if $ is tight you can get a great combo for this around the $200 mark. But if you can splurge, Lew’s has amazing combos!!
An awesome budget 7’4 heavy rod is the Lew’s Mach. Not a Mach 2 or 1.. just Mach. It’s an 80 dollar rod and it’s actually super impressive. It was my first ever “heavy duty” rod. Still use it today for my big worms normally.
You know, I've been needing a good punching/frogging/jigging rod and you've got me sold. I have been meaning to try those KVD rods, they are beautiful rods.
Just picked up a lews speed stick 7'3 heavy and love it! I have it paired with a piscifun allios I think? And it is great with this rod and my favorite rod hands fown
JohnMartin hear in Canada , please do a eclectic sonar needs . I am in the weeds all the time in 5 to 15’ rock drop offs quiet docks musky bass, crappie perch.
I have a question I don’t see talked about fishing etiquette. I went fishing a day ago and was fishing from a dock. Some others came up which I don’t mind but they were fishing worms and would cast out then wonder around behind me stand behind me and talk in a circle amongst themselves. slowly crowded me more and more. I only had a couple hours to fish and I ended up quitting early since I couldn’t pack up and get somewhere new with enough time left. I get they cast out and don’t feel the need to watch their rods I guess but I don’t fish that way because I find it more fun to use lures. I was just curious is this common? What if any etiquette is there.
Thanks Tyler. I really appreciate what you do. I'd love to see you review some of the Lew's made combos. Such as the mach crush and Lew's inshore. Those are 2 combos that I use quite often. I am slowly upgrading my rigs to the higher end gear I have a g. Loomis with a Shimano DC on it and it's absolutely PERFECT! However, as much as I love that combo it's a $500 combo. I am not sure if upgrading all my gear is necessary. I'm putting together a heavyweight combo for musky, sturgeon, and pike. Basically big game fish. I already have the rod it's a cheep berkely big game rod. I'm looking at the abu rocket beast. Not sure yet. Anyways, some advice would be much appreciated. Thank you. Be safe out on the water and God bless you and your family. 🙂
I got a 7' Medium Speed stick rod and I really like mine. Beefier so I use it for bigger lures and frogs. Cheap because it came as a combo with a Speed spool, which btw,are amazing for the price!
That’s great! I’m just telling you though, for bigger lures and frogs, having a dedicated rod and reel combo that’s heavy action and longer will benefit you greatly. That’s why I made this video
I caught two bass on the donkey rig using the GC6 rod and the KVD 7.5:1 reel on New Year’s Day, so yea it’s my favorite setup right now. And where’s TRF?!
I asked for a Lews 7-foot-4 heavy rod for Christmas, and received it. However, it is moderate action - something I didn't specify. Is moderate or fast action best for this heavy rod, which I plan to mostly use for topwater, crankbaits and jerkbaits. Thanks for any assistance you can offer, and I enjoy all your videos on all sorts of topics. That really keeps it interesting!
The combination I use for this is the 7' 6" carbon Ugly Stick heavy one piece It is like $85 in 2024, with Abu Garcia, Black Max That is like only $55, It has tremendous torque but it is not very good with finesse fishing, That you will not be doing anyway with this combination this drops your combination to 150 including the line
12:12 Yo Tyler, I know you may not read this comment. But in the case you do, can we see more of that type of fishing footage? Maybe a montage of the fish eating the lure. The POV perspective and seeing the fish literally take it right before my eyes was amazing. I know it's may be silly to ask, but my god that was beautiful to watch.

Hey Tyler, I’ve been looking at the KVD GC7, the one you have in the video for a while. I was probably gonna pair it up with a Tournament MP and I was wondering if it would be good for swim jigs and frogs. My local lake gets a lot of grass during the summer and wanted to gear up before then. Thanks Tyler. Great video.

Yep haha
Gawd, pretty sad when the low budget is even out of my budget... Ugh
It’s not sad, it’s an opportunity. If you live In America you can work to afford whatever you want. It may be more difficult for some people, but the opportunity is always there. It’s all about desire. Desire it and make it happen
Love the optimism, I wish I still had it. But last time i poured myself into achieving those desires, I lost everything right down to the dog. I'll live vicariously through others!
You now you’re poor when the budget combo is to expensive😆
Nobody makes a “budget” 7’4” H combo. If you want budget, you’re gonna be stuck with combos that companies make like 7’M or 7’MH
@@TylersReelFishing yeah I understand
@@TylersReelFishing I guess I don’t want to skip out on a combo
@@TylersReelFishing I don’t think me dad would see it that way lol😂
There is no such thing as heavy action, you mean heavy power fast action
Correct
