Just a note to all the "experts" lol doubting this shot selection. Pro Rodney Morris shows this shot in his DVD'S. He's known for traveling multiple rails, but still likes this shot better. Great video!
Sharivari, GREAT video lesson, it is a perfect example of Why the position play you used is the correct one: It’s because the cue ball is traveling toward the 7 ball on the correct, next desired shot line. Especially for us league players, whose speed control is ‘lacking’ it is always much better to approach the next ball on a good shot line. The initial rejected examples all had the cue ball traveling around in a futile search for a good shot angle. The suggestions to go longer around the table have the same flaw - lotta travel, and just hoping to land somewhere good. Best tip of the 24 so far because it has so many applications: “Move the cue ball to the next shot on the shot line you’d like (if you can).” And thanks for this example showing how low inside works to move the cue ball on that line.
As someone who works in television I have to say that your production values have increased a great deal !!! Great job!!! On the 1st scenario I would have hit hard enough to get above the 7 ball. No matter where you land on the 7ball you will have a good shot on the 8ball. Scenario 2 I would have done the same thing! Great job! Thanks for this reminder of inside english shot. It is very useful too when you are near a ball to pot in a corner pocket but don't have direct access to it. You have to hit the cue ball on the long rail just before the other corner pocket on the same side with inside english and with good aiming the cue ball, after hitting the top rail, will come back on the same side and pot the object ball.
Yeah, in second situation its very good and literally only one correct idea to play low left, but I think in tournament conditions in the first situation much better is to play this shot with about a tip of right spin. The cue ball will go on the other side of the 7 ball with 3 or 4 rails depends on the speed. There is quite large area for the position for the next shot. For me this is more confident way to execute. Greetings from Poland!
Playing right spin to get behind the 7 runs a few risks. If you under hit, you're on top of the 7. If you over hit, you'll have a very difficult angle on the 7. Too much right brings the far side scratch into play. Bottom left takes all those dangers out of play. We may not like inside spin but learning to use it can make a big difference in your ability to run out.
Awesome shot option! When you demo a shot I would have played differently, it gives me a chance to add another shot option to my toolbox. I expect this one to come in handy, especially when there are position blockers involved. Thanks!

I agree with high right and a harder stroke. Even if you hit too hard, it will still end up with good shape off the end rail and it will be much easier to get shape on the 8.
@@mejeremyb I just set it up as close as I could estimate the ball positions. I got above the 7 ball with both center right and high right, the right is doing all the work the high gets it to hit the 1st cushion a lil higher. Brand new Simonis 860HR on a GC3.
As soon as I saw this pattern reminds me of what Shane van Boeing shot. I had screen recorded it and practiced it in the pool hall I go to. Good shot for beginners to learn
@@rickcyr8774 the possibility of scratching is possible but hitting the 9 is just less possible and , its high probability that you'll hit the long rail and then short rail and have position but have to be exact with the speed in this case because its less room for mistake

This is one of the very few shots where I am actually comfortable using inside spin. I always try to avoid it, because it's very risky for me but in this situation I always like to go the same path, cause it leads so nicely into the line of the next shot. Awesome video man, really looking forward to what xou came up with for tomorrow's 10 ball situation, I have no idea how I would go about that situation!
07:18 I've been playing pool for most of my life, I've had an Olhausen table in my basement since 1997. Of all the shots I've pulled off, that bonus shot is just something I've never been able to do. EVER. I've tried so many times I've lost count. I've never been able to even really come close. I understand the shot completely and what it takes to do it, it's just got my number.

1:14 Wouldn't this shot work if you just hit the cue ball a little harder so that you would end up on the other side of the 7? After that you would play the 7 in the lower right corner with follow or draw (depending on the cue ball's position and your shot preference) to get shape on the 8 to get to the 9 ball for an easy runout. Also, the same idea can be applied if you play the shot with top right spin instead of just top spin.

This is the shot I would have played if I had this position on the table. It really comes down to personal preference. I myself do not have a very consistent and controlled draw shot, partially because I don't have a good technique, but also because the quality of the table I play on is not nearly as good as others, so the top spin shot feels very natural to me, especially if you can judge the angles and see that the cue ball doesn't head directly to the top right corner pocket or hit the side rail above the side pocket, which would send it towards the 9 and maybe cause problems. This is one of the main reasons I love pool so much, really. You can set a specific position to 100 players, and each of them can come up with a different solution than others. While not every single option may be good, it at least adds a wide variety to this game, and really, no two games of pool are identical.

Unless I know the table and confident in the shot, I would play this shot by hitting high right with a bit more pace for position on the short side of the 7. Then follow forward for a natural angle on the 8. Still a great shot though and it worked out beautifully for the 3! Thank you as always.
Considering the angle you have for this shot, I would ONLY try for the inside spin option if I know the table really well. It's a good shot to know, but it's a tough shot to judge, at least for me. Personally, I'd be content with the very first shot you showed. Just using running english and getting back to the middle of the table. I am quite sure a number of pros would go for that as well because they know they can make any shot from the middle of the table. You can draw back from the 7 behind the side pocket for the 8, and if you screwed up a little, you stay above the side pocket and go for the medium diffculty 8 ball. Also, as you showed, your shots often results in bad angles for the 7-8 position. So...yeah. If I want to play fancy, I might go for it. But for me that's a bit overcomplicated.
Love a bit of side, will try this one later as always struggle with the ball so close to the pocket as the tangent varies so much depending on where you land, cheers Sharivari!
Could you do a video playing short side for position? I think the 7 would have been just as easy if playing the short side, and wouldn’t need to throw inside on the ball for those not confident enough with that yet
For me, i would Bank that 6, its An easy one and go to the rail and back (or even hold the cue with low action) to have a better angle for the 7 so i can use outside spin and a bit of draw to have position for the 8. I don't know, i think that way i might be wrong, i am not pro though. Btw: i have my own version of that bonus shot, hehehe 🤭
High Right works just fine with a little more speed. The seven can be shot into the bottom right corner and you would then be playing position "to" the eight ball. JMO

Hello again Sharivari. I'm looking for a video tutorial that would explain 2 and 3-rail bank or kick shots from awkward and realistic (in an actual match) angles. I find that all the tutorials online only explain these shots from angles that are too good to be true. For example, I would like to see a tutorial that explains how to calculate a 2 rail bank or kick shot where the starting point is not from a long rail, but from the short rail which then proceeds across the table to the long rail up by the adjacent corner pocket then kicks or banks to the neighboring short rail and then returns back to you into the pocket your starting point was next to. P.S.: Apologies for not being able to word that out very well if there is any confusion as to what I'm trying to convey. I should also mention that I'm not looking for an explanation that uses a "split the cue ball and object ball and then parallel shift" type of layout. I would like something that uses the diamond system and is more precise.Thanks.
Tor Lowry has some amazing videos explaining just exactly what you are looking for in his video series. I purchased them and it was well worth it. He also has tons of free videos as well.
On the first example, wouldn't top right with a bit more roll also work equally as well? That would definitely be my go to shot instead of trying to throw off the head rail, because the ideal spot would be going 4 rails past the 7 ball. When you end up near the foot rail, you then can do simple position play for the 8 and then 2 rail to the 9. That seems far easier for me than controlling your english enough to throw the cue ball in the proper spot, as you can easily get stuck behind the 8 or on the long rail. That being said, this would be a great drill to practice inside english and throwing off the rail properly, but I would never use this shot unless it was a last resort. If that was the case, I would play a safety anyways.
I think this shot is one of those shots where it’s your last option to kill the cue ball and go reverse. Like everyone else, top with lil bit of right to go above the 7 so you’re naturally going down for the 8 either way
Or in the first two examples you could just hit the cue ball a little harder and land up table above the 7 ball. You have edited this to only show the outcome of the one shot you want to explain and exhibit. At 4:45 you are happy to hit the cue ball hard enough to get the leave you wanted, but not on those first two shots. There are many more options than you are offering!

I would have used top right with more speed to go 4 rails on the short side of the 7, shooting the 7 towards the 8 next. Easier to get a good shape on the 8.
What kind of table is this? I have been saving up for 9’ Diamond pro am because that is what I see a lot at places I play or some valleys but I wanting a larger table to play on because the balls are not so clustered up. Any advise? Should I get 7’ or 9’? Diamond or another brand? I have only been playing a year and a 402 Fargo. I am learning at 50 🤣

The position that you have put the cue ball to hit the 6 , ables you to play with higher power , an element wich you have completely deducted from the video. I would go with just a topspin maaybe a touch of right hand side to come down behind the 7.

If You play slowmotion on 4:38, You Will see your cue moving to the side after the contact with the cb. Shouldn't it be a straight follow through? What causes you to do this?

Question, if you don't get the cue ball coming back after hitting bottom left, what would i be doing wrong? Not enough English? Stroke? I'm sorry if its a vague question
Stroke most likely or could be bad table conditions. You need a lot of spin with relatively low speed. A solid stroke drill is racing the cue ball back to the endrail with low spin against the object ball bouncing back from the other endrail. Advance moving the object ball further down table for more difficulty.
@@edgarg2024 Potting is all practice unfortunately. Straight in ball for mecanics and basic angles for memorizing different shots that come up all the time. Position rotation drills for speed and angle control. Aim for 80% pot success on most potting drills and 20-30% on passing the drills. I've done something like 2000h of solo practice since I started in 2013, so get yourself a table access and time daily. You'll be running much more 9 ball racks after 300h of drilling and at that point 8 ball can feel somewhat easy.
Not favoring this shot much. There's a big risk of getting too straight or the reverse spin is not strong enough causing the cue ball to hide behind the 8.
I guess it depends a lot of your personal preferences and the table layout. I would personally choose this inside spin-option but sometimes there might be more balls blocking the path. Better to practice both options 😋

Speed margin is much more sensitive. On a fast table the spin shot is the way to play. On your local club table that is slow the three railer makes sense if you are not comfortable with the inside potting. Just play the spin shot with so much speed you'll move the eight out of the way with a 3/4 or shallower hit.
Sorry brotha, but you have to work on your lines better, and top right was the safer and easier option, not the low left that someone has to be super exact. Top right would've put you below the 7 with an easy follow shot on the 7 and easy 8 and run.
100% my thoughts...top right with a bit of pace is such a more natural shot...simpler physics and less pure stroke required. No need to be this fancy...and he struggles to get out anyway lol...
Your shot on the 8 ball was the exact same shot you had on the 6 ball. You just didn't see it :) You have to hit the cue ball at 7:30 instead of 8:00. going 4 rails and crossing the line of the shot on the 9 is just wrong!

The high and right on this particular setup works great with more speed.. As long as there is no traffic.

That is the correct way, hard to see the exact angle on my phone screen but I think center right would have taken a better angle.

Be careful with that shot. There are 2 dangers. You could scratch in the upper right corner above the 6 or you could collide with the 9.

Ya wicked, I did this shot in playoffs last year, my buddy jumped right out of his chair he was so excited.
Unless I know the table and confident in the shot, I would play this shot by hitting high right with a bit more pace for position on the short side of the 7. Then follow forward for a natural angle on the 8. Still a great shot though and it worked out beautifully for the 3! Thank you as always.

Hello again Sharivari. I'm looking for a video tutorial that would explain 2 and 3-rail bank or kick shots from awkward and realistic (in an actual match) angles. I find that all the tutorials online only explain these shots from angles that are too good to be true. For example, I would like to see a tutorial that explains how to calculate a 2 rail bank or kick shot where the starting point is not from a long rail, but from the short rail which then proceeds across the table to the long rail up by the adjacent corner pocket then kicks or banks to the neighboring short rail and then returns back to you into the pocket your starting point was next to. P.S.: Apologies for not being able to word that out very well if there is any confusion as to what I'm trying to convey. I should also mention that I'm not looking for an explanation that uses a "split the cue ball and object ball and then parallel shift" type of layout. I would like something that uses the diamond system and is more precise.Thanks.

I suck so i would have played high right and gone between the 7 and 9 and tried for the 7 in the corner by the 8...lol
On the first example, wouldn't top right with a bit more roll also work equally as well? That would definitely be my go to shot instead of trying to throw off the head rail, because the ideal spot would be going 4 rails past the 7 ball. When you end up near the foot rail, you then can do simple position play for the 8 and then 2 rail to the 9. That seems far easier for me than controlling your english enough to throw the cue ball in the proper spot, as you can easily get stuck behind the 8 or on the long rail.
That being said, this would be a great drill to practice inside english and throwing off the rail properly, but I would never use this shot unless it was a last resort. If that was the case, I would play a safety anyways.
I think this shot is one of those shots where it’s your last option to kill the cue ball and go reverse. Like everyone else, top with lil bit of right to go above the 7 so you’re naturally going down for the 8 either way
Or in the first two examples you could just hit the cue ball a little harder and land up table above the 7 ball.
You have edited this to only show the outcome of the one shot you want to explain and exhibit. At 4:45 you are happy to hit the cue ball hard enough to get the leave you wanted, but not on those first two shots.

I would have used top right with more speed to go 4 rails on the short side of the 7, shooting the 7 towards the 8 next. Easier to get a good shape on the 8.

is it wrong to play the three rail shot but with a little more pace so we could play the 7-ball into the bottom corner pocket?
What kind of table is this? I have been saving up for 9’ Diamond pro am because that is what I see a lot at places I play or some valleys but I wanting a larger table to play on because the balls are not so clustered up. Any advise? Should I get 7’ or 9’? Diamond or another brand? I have only been playing a year and a 402 Fargo. I am learning at 50 🤣

The position that you have put the cue ball to hit the 6 , ables you to play with higher power , an element wich you have completely deducted from the video. I would go with just a topspin maaybe a touch of right hand side to come down behind the 7.

If You play slowmotion on 4:38, You Will see your cue moving to the side after the contact with the cb. Shouldn't it be a straight follow through? What causes you to do this?

Question, if you don't get the cue ball coming back after hitting bottom left, what would i be doing wrong? Not enough English? Stroke? I'm sorry if its a vague question
Stroke most likely or could be bad table conditions. You need a lot of spin with relatively low speed. A solid stroke drill is racing the cue ball back to the endrail with low spin against the object ball bouncing back from the other endrail. Advance moving the object ball further down table for more difficulty.

@@edgarg2024 Potting is all practice unfortunately. Straight in ball for mecanics and basic angles for memorizing different shots that come up all the time. Position rotation drills for speed and angle control. Aim for 80% pot success on most potting drills and 20-30% on passing the drills. I've done something like 2000h of solo practice since I started in 2013, so get yourself a table access and time daily. You'll be running much more 9 ball racks after 300h of drilling and at that point 8 ball can feel somewhat easy.

Not favoring this shot much. There's a big risk of getting too straight or the reverse spin is not strong enough causing the cue ball to hide behind the 8.
3 rails for short side position on the 7? That way you can use natural running sidespin with more margin for error.
I guess it depends a lot of your personal preferences and the table layout. I would personally choose this inside spin-option but sometimes there might be more balls blocking the path. Better to practice both options 😋

Speed margin is much more sensitive. On a fast table the spin shot is the way to play. On your local club table that is slow the three railer makes sense if you are not comfortable with the inside potting. Just play the spin shot with so much speed you'll move the eight out of the way with a 3/4 or shallower hit.
The bonus shot is called a banana shot not a force follow shot
Sorry brotha, but you have to work on your lines better, and top right was the safer and easier option, not the low left that someone has to be super exact. Top right would've put you below the 7 with an easy follow shot on the 7 and easy 8 and run.
100% my thoughts...top right with a bit of pace is such a more natural shot...simpler physics and less pure stroke required. No need to be this fancy...and he struggles to get out anyway lol...
Your shot on the 8 ball was the exact same shot you had on the 6 ball. You just didn't see it :) You have to hit the cue ball at 7:30 instead of 8:00. going 4 rails and crossing the line of the shot on the 9 is just wrong!
