- Madeline Soto was reported missing Monday by her mother, Jess Soto, who said Maddie never made it to school that day. Since Monday multiple developments have been made - including the arrest of Jess Soto's boyfriend, Stephan Sterns in the case. Deputies now say they believe Madeline Soto is dead after they saw Stern on video surveillance dumping some of her belongings in a dumpster.

I think she is just in a shock which is why she can’t react , people have different ways of reacting to shock and trauma , but I think she is very worried , just naive
You do realise a lot of mothers actually have to be sedated when they have kids go missing? People like you would have said the same thing about my mum when my sister died, without knowing the police had called in drs because she was so distraught. Shock and denial can also look like that. I despise people that leave comments like you. That woman has had her child murdered and raped by someone she trusted. Show some compassion. I bet you are one of those church goers that preach then behave the total opposite of what your book says. Shame on you

It could be a matter of abuse, we don't yet know what was going on in that home, but in the end, she knew and would have known that only one report was gonna get him outta the house and in jail, so when talking about fear in these cases, I don't get it. Cuz. after the one report to protect one's child, everything hits the fan and the explosion is the end!!!

Unfortunately, I'm coming in late on this case since we have had back to back cases in Houston. One was very similar and ended up in the worst way. "Family friend" pedophile "dropped her off at bus stop and she didn't return home. Actuality was he killed her.

I don’t know about you, but if my kid was missing I wouldn’t be calmly sitting in my living room talking to the media. I would absolutely lose my mind and be doing everything possible to locate my child.

Definitely agree with you on this. Not one tear, all calm and has a hell of a fake cry. How can a parent be this calm? Unbelievable she faked her cry and then almost immediately went back to being calm when she continues her conversation. 💔
If one of my kids disappeared, I certainly wouldn't be talking to the media like that. They're both guilty.
Just to be clear here and not making excuses for the mother but just wanting to clarify something, most people who have a child missing will take meds to calm them down as they get pretty hysterical. Depending on if she has been given something for her to get through this and what it is exactly, she could be feeling very numb because of that.
Again I’m not privy to her medical records of course, but if someone has given her anti anxiety meds to cope, feeling numb is a very common and expected consequence of the drugs given for extreme anxiety.

Reminds me of Susan Smith who deleted her baby boys and said a black man carjacked and took her babies. No scratches, uninjured...I knew she was lying. I would have been shot and run over if you tried to jack my car with my babies inside. Either you carjacking all of us or killing me or dragging me down the street holding on. But that Susan Smith was just as calm. Plus, I knew whoever jacked the car would have dropped those kids off. They are not riding around with white babies. Turned out she drove her car in a body of water to drown them so she'd be free to live a new life with a new boyfriend who didn't want children. The children's biological father ended up remarrying and having more children. Mom was sentenced to life. I read about her recently. Don't know if she's up for parole. It's been a long while since those murders.

Im a mother myself, this is not a reaction of a mom that has a missing child. I even myself freak out everytime the school bus is late from dropping off my son where i always pick him up. But this mom reaction was too calm for me knowing that her daughter is missing .

My friend walked my daughter to the bathroom at a horse show this past weekend, and after 10 mins went in to see where she was and couldn't find her. She panicked, was bawling, had the announcer start calling her over the intercom. She was losing it... my daughter was fine. She got distracted and was by the arena watching the horses. Wild that my friend had a more emotional reaction to even just thinking for a second that my daughter was missing.
I FREAK OUT when the bus runs late too. I always imagine the worst and have a panick attack and then when I the bus I feel a huge sigh of relief

I hear ya!! My 25 yr old didn't answer my messages all day yesterday and I didn't panic at 1st bc she has a baby and all that but 8 pm rolled around I suddenly panicked. I'm calling my other daughter, & had her calling her. Right as I'm sending her a text saying the police are on their way if I don't hear from u asap,she was texting me back . She and baby had rested most of day bc they didn't feel well.. My kids are always making jokes bc I panic so quickly if they don't respond but hey ,all I want to know is if u are safe. And then I can breathe! And girl,if u think it's stressful with our own kids just wait till you're a grandma!! I super duper worry about the grandbabies lol! I have SEVER adhd lol. I’m 28, have to be medicated to function to my fullest, and even when I WASNT on my meds, I NEVER ONCE LEFT MY PHONE. Never. Never as a preteen, as a teen, or as an adult. Not when I had my newborn, not when I’m hiking with a gsd, chihuahua, and toddler, NEVER. Something is VERY OFF.

My husband took my son to school just the other day and I could easily see myself saying "we took him to school at approximately 7:40 am" Just because in the general sense we got him to school. Sorry I just came across the video tonight (I’m in Canada & it was just there!) so I didn’t see all of the videos. Watched a bit of this first one and then a bit from the one from Saturday when they found her. So (I’m 90% sure) that the Mother was aware of it in some capacity ~ bc I would NEVER be that calm if my child went missing. She showed barely any emotion! Plus her whole speech was inconsistent.

My thinking for that after driving through school zones at peak pick ups, it's sometimes way easier to cut through a parking lot than wait in the line to drop off so that's my guess they could drop her off there and get out quicker. She was a teenager who wants be seen with their parents at that age?

The daughter wrote in a text that she wanted to go "live in the woods" once she turned 13. That is very strange for a teenager to want to do. There must have been ongoing abuse or SA for her to want to escape to the woods. I feel so awful for that precious young lady. RIP.

Exactly! When my son was about 5 he was playing up the street with the neighbors kids in their yard. I went to check and he wasn't there. I was in a panic to the point that I could barely walk. He was just in the house playing, but you all know what I mean. This mother is involved. Those fake tears anger me to no end.

Your boyfriend had video and pictures of him assaulting your daughter on his phone and you didn’t know anything is hard to believe. The mom knew what happened and is trying to cover her own ass because she said there was no problems in the house and it took investigators only a week to uncover what was really going on.

The videos from their apartment building show him throwing out her bookbag and laptop in the dumpster at around 7:15 that morning, which they later recovered and him driving back to the apartment at around 8:20. You could see Madeleine in the car and she looked dead. Which is why in his little interview he says " she slept the whole way to school". Common sense.

After watching this interview fully, i can confidently say mom is involved. As a mom of a girl with adhd who is 16, ahe is obsessed with her phone. Its one of the only things that she actually remembers. The way she is talking, she knows she isn't coming home. At one point ahe said i don't care how she comes home i just want her home. She knows shes passed.

The fact that her boyfriend is sitting silently in the background and not next to her in a supportive manner is odd. The fact that he says nothing for the duration of the news interview is strange too. If he had nothing to do with it, he should be right there next to her front and center calling on law enforcement to do everything they can to locate her. Strangely enough I do feel like the mother knows more than she's letting on. If not, she definitely feels it at the very least. You have to believe that she at least knew about her boyfriend's background a little bit prior to this situation. There's no way she is completely in the dark.
Exactly this.. the boyfriend not being right next to her is WEIRD.. we had a little girl missing here in Australia and the mom along with the boyfriend were both together clearly distressed, doing everything to help. These 2 are just sketchy af
You’d think he would’ve been feeling emotional given he was the one who ‘dropped her off’ and then went missing! An innocent man would be next to her and voicing his guilt that he should’ve watched her go inside the school. To me, that would be the logical and reasonable reaction, even if he’s innocent and it’s not necessarily his fault.

People who suffer with ADD ADHD forget their personal items all the time. They often leave and come back 2 or 3 times, or text asking someone to bring their shoes because they left them at grandma's house yesterday. Plus ADHD and autistic traits also mean behavior/social challenges.

This was a weird interview. I would be freaking out and running around without sleep to find my baby. I couldn’t even sleep.
I truly cannot understand how parents can conduct "last seen" interviews or press conferences so calm and stable within hours or days of their child being missing. I wouldn't have the mental compacity to formulate a solid thought or probably even be able to hold a conversation. I would have to literally be sedated from the racing thoughts about my child being MISSING. I don't know, it just always floors me watching cases like this with very sketchy unfortunate outcomes.

I fully believe the Mom was involved with this... but even tho we know the horrid outcome at this point, I still have questions about that drop off... was that "normal" to do things that way!?! Myself as a Mom could never drop my kids off away from where they were supposed to be and then expect it all to be fine and them get where they are going!?! Why would you drop a kid off away from the school!?! Why not just go to the school and make sure they get in there safe!?! I never once have taken my kids to a place far away from where they were going and hoped for the best!?! If I cannot see them safe, I am not leaving!?! And actually the only places my kids go to is their Grandparents homes, extracurricular activities that we pay for them to do, or church with the one of the Grandparents... I don't even do school because I do not trust the whole process, we homeschool. But even when one of mine did go, I pulled straight to the door, dropped her off with the school resource officer, and made sure she was fully inside before I left!?! How do you drop a child off "at school" but it be a totally different location!?! I feel this may have been part of the whole thing and we will hear about it. It probably wasn't the normal routine!!!! It does not make one ounce of sense to do things that way.
