- This week I am making over a thrifted china cabinet. I have been wanting to do a piece of furniture with Cane Webbing and the top on this china cabinet was perfect for the job. With the help of @DixieBellePaint and some Cane this makeover came out even more beautiful than I thought!

I really liked the contrast of the dark with the light color of the cane. I would also liked to have seen a make-over of the glass panels to look perhaps like "mercury glass" as well.
As always this piece is gorgeous. very sophisticated, I love black and gold.
I like cane webbing but I don't like leaving the raw edging. It looks like it could be damaged by getting caught on things when the doors are open. I'm thinking it could be finished by stapling on upholstery edging. The kind you see under upholstery tacks where upholstery fabric is tacked to a wood chair arm or wood back.

I might have left that top textured inset unpainted, it was "visual interest." Misspelled name on the sign!
Ditto ...& I would have painted the cane black & done a bit of texturizing very lightly with the gold on the cane at small locations of the corners.
I have a lots of cane furniture (like 33 years old) and I love it - I am glad it is fashionable again

I love caning but very reluctant to use it because I have a cat who would love it too lol. He destroyed a beautiful tall wicker basket/vase using it for a scratching post.

I love cane webbing. It does have a retro feel. We remodeled our kitchen and put bamboo veneer on the doors, drawers, etc. The pantry doors have cane webbing for the inserts, was stained dark brown and it goes fantastic with the bamboo cabinetry. So don't be afraid to paint it. It gives it a modern retro look.

Personally I don't like cane webbing but your project came fantastic. Giving me some thoughts on doing a project myself because I really didn't know how it was done. I am surprised that you didn't guild the details of the pattern towards the top. You find the most beautiful and unique pieces and do a beautiful job bringing life back to them. Sooo smart to sell bottom half and keep the top. Brilliant.

If you are obsessed with cane webbing, you need to visit my basement! It's filled with cane webbed furniture from the 70's. I've been slowly redoing pieces, but the cane has been in really good shape, so I felt it was more about updating with paint (to get rid of the outdated brown color). It's really great to know that you can buy the webbing (which I didn't even think about) but funny that I didn't know it's all the rage. Thanks for such a fun video...you have the best laugh on RUclips!

Fantastic tip about soaking the cane. Seen a few projects with it. And they didn't soak. It was evident lol.

Lol I have noticed that too. I have a bunch of mid century stuff in storage i bought to farmhouse finish and remove cane and add small chicken wire. Lol. I really detest stripping that finish. So I guess its time to paint and cane

Love the project and you're a delightful instructor--thorough, clear, entertaining. I'm gathering my nerve to replace glass doors on an old Ikea cabinet with caning. I thought of glueing the caning to the glass if I can't remove the glass panels. Wonder how that would work. First, however, I'm following your instruction. Carlos did a fabulous job on the cane webbing! I like cane webbing because it looks great & it's practical. It's very good at hiding what's behind it so it's great for storage. Way to go! Beautiful, classy job!
