I am the honest vocal coach! I have been teaching for 15 years and been singing since I was 16. I teach from my own studio and also teach and mentor via email, and online via Live & Skype. I specialise in teaching children, and teenagers pop and musical theatre but I am trained in all genres of music. Adam Lambert is a freak (in the best possible way). His vocal purity & power, breath control, unbelievable range & stage presence makes him absolutely unbeatable... Outstanding! And all those qualities will ensure his longevity as a world class vocalist I'm sure.
I don't want to argue with Marc Martel's fans and Adam Lambert's haters, but only a blind person, deaf or with no sense of singing or stage presence wouldn't find Adam Lambert phenomenal. Brian and Roger chose the right artist. This guy is really impressive.
The sad fact is that Brian and particularly Roger thought up the Queen Extravaganza tribute act because they had lost so much money on the disastrous recording venture with Paul Rodgers (which is why they have always been hesitant to record new material even with Adam). They heard of Adam in March 2009 and met him in May, just a few months after having contracted for twenty years the QE show producers and any artists willing or needing to remain with it. They can't get out of that contract until it ends. What will happen of Marc when it does? He has tried to have a recording career but he is just an impersonator doing songs that were done better before and are being done better now. Had Brian and Roger heard of or met Adam just a few months earlier, the QE would never have even got off the ground as Adam gave them the opportunity to tour again themselves and the money brought in by the QE pales into insignificance compared to that brought in by Queen & Adam Lambert tours. If Brian and Roger had had to rely on the QE to make up the money lost, they would have died still living a comfortable life but in huge debt.

Adam by far. Not only does he sound phenomenal, he does it so effortlessly. He makes it look easy. He's got a God-given gift.
Yeah it’s not so easy I have very high male voice too but I haven’t been able to keep me at my best and higher notes feel so much harder now that I am 24 what they felt when I was 16. Adam has still amazing voice and its so high and bright still on top it’s unbelievable how he has done it through years and years of singing those high notes
The comparison is really revealing, indeed. One realizes how difficult it is to achieve what Adam makes sound totally effortless.
For all the people out there who wonders why Marc not on the tour instead of Adam. This is why.

Even though Marc has a similar tone to Freddie, he’s trying to copy him and not being his own person. Adam at least isn’t trying to replace Freddie because you can’t and is his own individual. I can still tell a major difference between hearing Marc and Freddie. Queen wants fresh energy and a new face which is why Adam was a great pick. Marc sounds great in a studio, but live performances almost feel forced and strained.

About that John bit, I have to correct you there. John's absence has nothing to do with Adam being good enough or not. John made it clear he won't do a single song or live performance without Freddie. Period.

I have seen Adam and queen in concert a couple of times. Hearing it on video is one thing, but hearing it live is almost ear piercing. How can someone have so much power in their voice? Unbelievable! Not only that. His charisma, energy and stage presence is out of this world. The moment he stepped off stage, the energy immediately went down. I love Brian and roger, they are absolute legends, but I have to be honest, most people used Brian’s guitar solo as a potty break lol. No one wanted to miss one second of Adam
Well, if you noticed he gets called a male powerhouse...for a reason imo. plus add all the vocals he adds to the shows, imo and you add he doesn't really use his falsetto …. which actually is kinda scary because, you realize his range is crazy. He adds extra because he can, and has waaay more stamina and also notice his lack of vocal breaks? He doesn't do 'one time' he does 'all the TIME.' I know ppl don't like his type of voice, but you can't deny his power. I don't like marc fans imo. Sorry. They are insulting and he DOESN'T sound like FREDDY. And doesn't have that POWER behind his voice compared Adams.
The first time I heard Adam live at the Idol concert, I could not believe it was a real person singing. His voice filled the whole arena in perfect pitch. I especially was blown away from the last note of "Life on Mars". No video or TV appearance will ever do his voice justice.
One day when i watch Q+AL concert i will wear a diaper.i'm serious lol i'm not gonna be spending money just to miss any single performance 😂

There is no debate about who Queen should choose to tour with them. They CHOSE Adam. Case closed.
And they said they could close their eyes and hear freddie when martel sings which is why he was chosen for their tribute band THEY created. They also realize that in the mainstream market that adam has a bigger following due to American idol and they also said that having martel in the actual band would be a bit too emotional for them due to his voice sounding like Freddie's so obviously they feel both singers do the songs justice in their own ways so I find it funny you imply that they view marc as inferior to adam when they have numerous times stated the exact opposite in interviews lol.

Adam is really impressive but at one thing, really high notes, and that's impressive and breathtaking, but singing ultra-high doesn't make you automatically the BEST singer out of all of them. Artifice if Adam Lambert walked away from Queen, he would still have a career. If Martel stopped impersonating Freddie, what would he do? He’s trying to ride on Freddie’s career because he doesn’t have one of his own.
It has never been Queen’s intention to replace Freddie - who can never be replaced. With Adam, they are able to bring a fresh approach to the music, while honouring Freddie at the same time. They have great chemistry and Adam puts on a spectacular show. From the beginning, Adam has said he’s not there to impersonate Freddie, he’s there to sing the songs.
But Brian has admitted that Adam is a replacement. He said in one of his latest interviews that Adam almost didn't feel like a replacement. But feeling is not the same as simply being a replacement! LOL
@@Leander_ I think it was pretty clear how Brian meant it: Adam ISN'T a replacement AND he doesn't feel like that either, and not: although Adam IS a replacement he doesn't feel like that.
Btw there as there is no strict definition of what does and what doesn't count as a replacement in a rock band, all this debate whether or not Adam is a replacement is pointless. What does that matter anyway when he has been up there performing with them for almost a decade now?

Adam is not a Freddie impersonator or imitator so he can't be assessed as whether he sounds like Freddie or not. Adam is a genius. His vocals are out of this planet. He sings so effortlessly. It just flows. And he's so humble. And both Adam and Queen have made very clear Adam is interpreting Queen songs not imitating Freddie.

Queen don't want anyone to be an official member of Queen except the four of them. Unfortunately, Freddie died and John decided to leave, which is within his right. They don't want Adam as an official member for the same reason they didn't want Paul Rodgers either. It was four of them who started it and made all the hits. They're honouring Freddie's legacy and introducing their music to new generations. There is no need to make any new music. It's pointless without Freddie. Their album with Paul Rodgers proves it. They just want to pass on their legacy to new generations and Adam is doing his best helping them do it.

Not everyone. Just a few vocal fans of his who are jealous. But they are totally classless as they go onto every Adam video, even his solo stuff from 10 years ago, his social media, Queen's social media and bash Adam and pimp Marc. They even have petitions going on demanding that Queen replace Adam with Marc. It's their band and they can do what they want. But in reality, Marc is rarely mentioned on the Queen fan sites. If you watch the documentary "The Show Must Go On: The Queen and Adam Lambert Story" Queen is basically telling these people to f* off as they will never tour with a mimic.
Not everyone, definitely not Queen fans - the majority of them agree with Brian and Roger that Freddie can't be replaced by a bland sound alike.

I personally don't think Adam fits the genre and instrumentation of Queen. He's a great vocalist but for Queen? The band just feels incomplete with his vocals. All this is my opinion though. Like who you like and have a good day. :)

Adam has great vocals but I don't think he fits in with Queen. He's more of a pop voice in my opinion. It doesn't have to be Marc, just someone that better suits the genre. :)

Something diehard Queenies and Marc Martell fans don't seem to get is that this isn't about who sounds most like Freddie. Its about who can do the songs the most justice vocal wise, but also showmanship. Adam wins that hands down. There's a reason Brian and Roger are working with Adam. They have good chemistry on stage.
Also Adam sounds far far far better on the high notes.

I totally agree with you. Marc is VERY good but perhaps in a more Freddie impersonation kind of way. Adam's voice, and how he controls it, is just incredible. And he sings HIS way, rather than trying to impersonate the un-matchable Freddie. I'm glad Adam has stuck with Queen. Despite getting an initial roasting from fans, he has really proved himself and seems to have won many of them over.
Barbara Cartland Museum Marc actually doesn’t impersonate Freddie, that’s his natural voice, he was just blessed. And if you see him live, he’s amazing 😊

I'm afraid Marc came out looking very bad in this side by side comparison. Live, Adam blows most people off stage. He has the control to produce those notes time after time without strain. And because he's not trying to sound like anyone else, he has the complete freedom of his voice. Marc sounded very strained a lot of the time. Those higher ranges were not kind to him. Maybe in the studio he'd do better and have better breath control.
For sure but you have to keep in mind that it's their live capabilities that are compared because they won't be recording new songs it'll all be live performance
I feel like Marc's pitch isn't always on point. Adam is perfection.
That's because Marc trained to sound like Freddie Mercury while Adam has been working with vocal coaches for many years to control his instrument and to make the most of it. Adam's technique is pretty much perfect, ask any vocal coach. His clarity and power are unmatched and I'm pretty sure he hasn't reached the limits of what he can do yet. If you want to succeed, don't try to imitate someone else. Be yourself and work to make the most of your talent and voice.
@@guestuser1671 That so much bullshit it hurts, have you actually listened to Marc talking? hear any of his original songs? Marc started to sing Queen because people kept pestering him about him sounding just like Freddie, because he does, thats his natural voice. Listen to him talk. People seem to keep forgetting that Freddies speaking voice was much deeper than his singing voice. It's insane just how much Marc sounds like Freddie.

@@AraeS no, he is an impressionist who happens to also sing like Freddie. The band Queen has a particular sound, and that sound is based on the voice of Freddie Mercury. If a new lead singer can come in and sing like him, that will allow Queen fans to still like Queen, because it will sound like Queen. That should be the whole point, anyhow.

I had the chance to attend a Queen + Adam show and what he does on stage is amazing. As he always said, he doesn't want to be Freddie and I think that's the reason why it works so good. Adam is, by far, my fave male singer.
According to Brian May, they'd most likely have worked with Adam even if Freddie was still alive, and it would probably be initiated by Mercury himself. May followed up by revealing how he's picturing Freddie fancy Adam with a pitch of envy by 'snorting' out type "I hate you, Madam Lambert!.." Needless to say it cracked me up :D
that‘s marketing. it‘s totally clear why roger and brian would always say something like that about any singer who sings for them! or do you think a band with that reputation like queen’s would say something bad about their singer in the public? of course, adam is a very good singer, but to say „they would have worked with adam lambert, one runner up from a casting show even if freddie was still alive“ is sheer bullshit and is a platitude because then there would be no reason for taking a guy from the stage of a casting show when they‘ve got the original who created around 50% of their song-catalogue. so when roger or brian does say something like that it’s simply defending their decissions without freddie being here anymore i bet. you cannot give too much attention to what brian and roger are saying about their own singer. they are kind of not independent with their opinion.

@@greenogre22 Of course they wouldn't work with anyone else while Freddie was still young enough to do shows. But I doubt even Freddie could be a front man at the age of 74. If you listen to Brian's singing Love of My Life 15 years ago, you can tell his voice was much stronger back then. And it's one thing to sing one song, it's another to sing the entire concert. I still don't think they'd perform with Adam or anyone else in that case (I just can't see the logistic of it, it's not like you can pick a new lead and put Freddie on backup singing), most likely they'd had a longer career with Freddie and then retired (maybe doing guest appearances here and there, I don't know). But I don't think it's marketing, Brian's excitement about Adam seems sincere to me, I think all he meant is Freddie would have liked working with Adam given a chance (and I think he would), he wasn't thinking very hard about what ifs of the world where Freddie would be alive. And I'm 100% certain he didn't actually mean they'd replace Freddie in his prime, that'd be a crime against humanity :)
Adam for me is the best male singer today. His voice is strong, beautiful and intense. In addition, he can sing properly and convincingly any musical style. I love the "drive" in his voice, providing a metallic and ripped sound, perfect for Rock !!! Adam is more than a singer. He's a brilliant showman. Adam Lambert is at a much higher level than Marc in terms of singing and stage presence. Marc certainly agrees with me ....
I think Adam has an unfair advantage because he obviously has four lungs instead of the usual two! I confess I enjoyed your expressions immensely when you listened to Adam. I hope you get the opportunity to see Adam sing live sometime, but you might not survive--lol. I give both Marc and Adam 10 extra bonus points each for keeping the music of Queen alive for so many fans. Thanks so much for the great video and your honest opinion.

I think I remember an interview with Adam’s mom who said he cried and screamed a lot as a baby. That’s probably how he developed and strengthened his lung power, lol
My throat is hurting just from listening to Marc sing. It's stressing me out. As for Adam, I never worry when I listen to him. I don't always enjoy his original music or his artistic chocies, but technique wise he's stress free listening for me.
Ever since I first saw Adam on Idol I believed he was the most talented singer currently in the business. But I have not purchased a single one of his albums because I don't care for his song selections. I'd sure be willing to purchase a Queen + AL album because I love the music and, as you say, "technique wise he's stress free listening for me", too.
For most of Marc Martel fan, this is the vocal technique battle, not the battle who sounds like Freddie more
This was a great comparison. Shows how good Adam truly is. I am just a regular person and even I can hear how pure and clear and effortless his singing sounds. Just perfect, constantly.

Brian and Roger chose Marc Martel for the cover band "Queen Extravaganza", as he is a great impersonator of Freddie and they chose Adam Lambert for the official band, as Adam is one of the best singers today and a showman. Adam Lambert is AMAZING.
I recommend this video to all Queen fans, and to all who deeply appreciate little musical and vocal nuances, I also give this suggestion--Watch the video. THEN listen to it with your eyes shut on headphones. It is MINDBLOWING!
As for Marc and Adam, It's all Adam for me, I much prefer him overall, sometimes Marc seemed to be yelling more than singing, and there were a couple moments where i actually winced when Marc was singing (but that's just my reaction, no reason it needs to be anyone else's) though he also had some great moments. But Adam, as you say, is more a showman...that is, he doesn't just SING the songs, he PERFORMS the songs . Heck, he practically IS the songs! And he creates art with his voice, he sculpts the notes, nothing is unintentional when he sings, but he still makes it feel "free."
While I enjoy both singers, Adam Lambert is obviously the clear winner here. Honestly, I'm worried Marc Martel is going to wreck his voice because he is just trying to sound exactly like Freddie all the time. He's a fabulous singer in his own right too. Adam sings the songs like himself and I feel like Marc is concentrating on being Freddie.
But to pay to see queen I want to hear Freddie not adam

First time seeing one of your videos. I love your energy and reactions. It's Adam Lambert for me all the way. I grew up with rock n roll in the 50s 60s and 70s (Roger and Brian's age group and the garage band era in the US) and Adam is, well, an integral part of the group. The only reason to play and perform rock music is to have a good time on stage and engage the audience in that good time. Q+AL does that. And Adam Lambert can sang those songs. He also harmonizes expertly with Roger and Brian's voices as Freddy used to do. It's some of the most difficult, phenomenal and beautiful music ever written in any genre and he does it justice over and over again. In my opinion the best male singer I've ever heard.

Adam has more chops, but Marc has the Mercury thing going in. Last time I ever heard a tone that resembled Mercury was with Dave Coutts, who sang for STP side project, Talk Show. "Hello Hello" showcases some of Dave's range, but the song "Behind" has some of that unintentional Mercury shading.

I admire the talent of both but honestly I prefer Adam because he's *not* trying to replicate Freddy (Let's face it, that's impossible.) but rather honor his spirit. Many new people are re-discovering the MUSIC of Queen because of Adam's talent and showmanship, which leads them to listening to Freddy's performances too. We don't need a new Freddy, we need someone willing to HONOR him by keeping their music alive and vibrant to new listeners. I think both of them are very talented but Marc lacks a certain performance spirit of individuality that was Freddy's fire and it makes him seem like someone trying too hard to be Freddy rather than reigniting the passion that first made Freddy and Queen the stars that they are. Adam seems to be able to balance the performance between skill and showmanship which to me was the Hallmark of Queen's shows. You didn't just go for the music, you went because you knew you were going to see a PERFORMANCE and Adam always delivers that.

Ive been lucky enough to catch them at the 02 arena, Wembley and the Hollywood Bowl in LA (And I was at the Bohemian Rhapsody premiere at arm's length from Bri and Roger - lesson learnt that I can't just try and hi five them... 🤦 Brill film but I was upset that Adam wasn't at the world premiere when he was at the LA one as he had a cameo)

I have a couple of reasons why I think Adam is the best choice.
First of all, he can sing circles around most singers. His vocal range is unbelievable. Adam sings like Adam.
Marc is a good singer. My issue with him is that he sounds like Freddie. He doesn’t have his own voice - at least I haven’t heard anything different. This is great if he’s in a cover band. It helped him when Bohemian Rhapsody (the movie) was being made. I think if he were to be the frontman for Queen, he would look as if he were “replacing” Freddie. It wouldn’t make Brian or Roger look good either.
I don’t have anything against Marc - I didn’t even know who he was until seeing comments about him on RUclips.
Also I think Freddie would have chosen Adam
Just FYI, Marc only sang .1% of the vocals in the movie. His fans are trying to make out that he did most of the vocals but it was confirmed .1% by the sound guys.
