It’s crazy how it’s legit impossible to not smile listening to Freddie Mercury’s voice.
Its the sound version of watching liquid chocolate being poured from a height
Thank you darling
I thought it was ONLY ME!!
It’s crazy how millions of people legit don’t know what “legit” means.
first
no me
you honestly could've had it all
@@SamJohnsonVoice would it have ever been enough tho
Lol
Cheater!
This is why I love you Sam. You don't make singing a competition but something that's fun to do and everyone sounds different not because of talent. You're also really sweet and your videos are just so wholesome
Much of Marc's "sounds like Freddy" is just a happenstance of physiology. It wasn't til after years of hearing folks say "wow, you sound like Freddy Mercury" that he even started to listen to Queen. He's a natural mimic...he "does" a lot of other singers very well. But after being chosen to front the Queen tribute band, he naturally made the distince effort to sound like Freddy as much as possible :) To hear more of his "own" voice, you might want to do a comparison with his and Tom Waits version of "Take it With Me" Just a thought :) Marc is almost exclusively self taught...by listening to the radio, picking out bits he liked and trying to figure out how to do it.
And for that, he’s a phenomenal talent none the less.
I always find it amusing how many comments on Marc's "non Queen" covers still say he sounds like Freddie. Marc has a great ear for finding similar phrasing and styles to replicate instrumentation and vocals. "Playing by ear" as a method of learning singing and playing instruments (as opposed to classical training) doesn't seem to be recognized as much as it once was. That's a talent/skill on its own right.
He does sound a bit like Freddie, but his own music does not sound that much like Freddie. He is obviously manipulating his sound a bit.
@@ZENOBlAmusic But Freddie didn't always sound like himself either. Fans got confused who was singing ''Sheer Heart Attack" on News of the World. They sent in a question to the official Fan Club Magazine in 1977.
@@Leander_ Freddie sounded like himself because he was himself, he wasn't trying to sound like someone else. He could change his voice to create different sounds, but all of those sounds still belonged to him.
The answer to your question is Freddie. It’s always Freddie.
I was looking for this comment. The others are okay but Freddie was the whole package
@@plushpuppy32 "THE WHOLE PACKAGE"..... EXACTLY!
AGREED!
Thank you. They really could've just said Freddie is awesome and left it at that!
Freddiephiles are so obnoxious. And FYI Roger and Brian disagree with you ON THE SINGING QUESTION. For them it's ADAM, ALWAYS ADAM. Especially considering Freddie disrespected and destroyed his voice very early on and was unable to EVER do the extensive difficult performances that Lambert does hundreds of times in a row. OR doing 100 takes for one line in a studio album. But have fun pretending he seriously cared about his "VOCALS" in those shows lmfao.
Loved this! And love that you don't put them in a competition against each other, but look at their individual strengths and talents 💗
Literally busted out laughing when Ariana Grande‘s face appeared on the screen! Lol
I must've missed it. Where?
Jonathan Henderson When he’s talking about doing the vocal runs without moving your mouth too much
@@jennifersantaguido2141 I'll double check. I probably missed it as I often creep down to read comments when the video's playing, lol.
Jonathan Henderson it’s actually on the computer screen to our left
@@jennifersantaguido2141 Gotcha. I saw it.

George Micheal sing this song (a live trubute) is amazing too.
Best Queen cover/tribute I've ever heard
Yeah
I would love to see a follow up including George. So brilliant!
YESSSS
George’s was sooooo wonderful. Seriously my favorite of the cover of this song.
Every time I see those videos of Freddie he just makes it look so effortless.
I want to see Sam front a rock band. Those little bursts he gives us make me want to see/hear more!
I love Queen and Freddie, but I've also found Adam Lambert a fabulous singer and artist and I've had a chance to see him with Queen when they visited my country on a tour. Thank you for finding the uniqueness of everyone and not comparing (Adding to every single video of yours
There will never be another Freddie, but Marc is my favorite ❤️
Adam Lambert looks like he is having the best time. It’s contagious!
that Ariana Grande face at 8:00 😂😂
that sent me 😂
righttt hahaha
Fully sent me
I lost it. Hahahaha!
I’m lucky enough to live in Alabama where Marc joins the Black Jacket Symphony several times a year to cover “night at the opera” cover to cover. They recently played an outdoor COVID-friendly gig a few miles from my house:) There’s so much talent around and I can’t wait- hear me- I. Cannot. Wait. Until ye olde plague relents and thusly sets us loose on the world to watch live music again. I’m ready to get sweaty with my cohorts and dance all night and go home, ears ringing, hearing only the vowels of words spoke to me, and skin buzzing from the amplifiers I stood too close to.
Love all three, but Freddie Mercury is a legend for a reason. Voices of all three are powerful but Freddie just leaves me breathless
I just love how this series has made Sam sing a lot more along with the songs... So good!
Freddie's instrument was one of a kind... Adam make a good job not trying to initiate it, by taking the song to hinself and giving a new seasoning to it... Marc also make a good job by trying to imitate Freddie, for that's his goal: to reproduce the song... As Sam always says, we all have just different instruments and good or better is all about our goal while singing...
Thank you for not trashing Adam. I love Freddie and feel he is the #1 singer of all time but I also enjoy Adam singing Queen! Too many people are mad at Queen and Adam for him working with Queen. He has said numerous times he is not trying to sound like Freddie, he want to sing it like himself!!! Good video
I'll tell you this much: I met Marc Martel YEARS ago when my brother's band played with his. He actually, for real sounds very similar to Freddie. This was over 10 years ago, so the Bohemian Rhapsody movie was nowhere on his horizon. He just genuinely sounds a lot like Freddie.
I've heard many people make this same comment about Marc. He clearly has some similar natural tonality, and has an ear for picking up the intricacies that highlight those similarities.
I love Freddie so much. I wish he was still with us.
Awesome video! These three singers are all so talented.
What I love the most about this video it's how much respecto you show to their respective voices because a lot of the time people get a little too critical when they put Freddie, Marc and Adam on the same video. This guy's are amazing singers and we should enjoy the possibility of listen what they do instead of attacking them constantly. And Sam seeing you smile and enjoy the music, and listening you sing it's always amazing !!! Happy 2021 🤗
I loved this video omg but after had I to play this song in full! I was like nooo let Freddie sing! 😂🙌
Yessss..... Let Freddie SING! ;D
I would love to see Sam react to Adam Lambert singing 'Who wants to live forever' at the Isle of Wight festival. One of the most moving performances I've ever seen
No, thanks. No one will ever beat Freddie.
Blue Terran Can’t live in the past forever. Not healthy. They seem to be doing ok with Adam. There’s only going to EVER be one of anyone.
@@blueterran9636 I'm sorry, was anyone talking to you??
@@blueterran9636 Blue you know very well that Freddie is a legend, Adam is not a replacement for Freddie he sings Queen's songs his own way. The Isle of Wight performance was out of this world and this time Adam sang it better than Freddie.
@@blueterran9636 Honestly I don't think the point is to beat anyone. It's a specifically beautiful performance I was referencing and to quote Roger 'I've never heard it sung like that. That's special'
I've seen Marc Martel a few times back in the day with his old Christian band "Downhere". I had never heard of these guys and one day, they happened to be the "praise band" at the church I'd been attending, playing a few of their own songs. Apparently, they would do that, go on a tour of bigger churches in the northwest US and play a regular show in the evening at the same place.
Well, they were incredible and I say this as someone who can't really stand most Christian artists. And Marc's range meshed well with the other singer who took a lot of lower range stuff.
Another Downhere fan! Love those guys!
You’re definitely one of my favourite voice coaches on RUclips. I’ve a great teacher and I’m an operatic tenor but your knowledge of vowel modification (copertura) the larynx, jaw position, vertical vs horizontal space etc are pretty bang on.
No one is Freddie. No one is Michael. I would love more videos on Michael's vocals.
UGHH SO EXCITED! pressed on it within seconds of you uploading it. and I was studying! ❤️
For me Freddie will always be the best rock/pop singer of his time but Adam and Marc are both extremely talented singers, and Adam has the stage presence and showmanship to match Freddie.I can't comment on Marc's showmanship as I have only seen him singing sat at a piano.I would love to hear your opinion on what effects if any,Freddie having his teeth made smaller/modified would have had on his singing voice.
As much as a good singer adam is I wouldn't say he has stage presence to match Freddie.
M M Maybe I worded it wrong. What I mean is he’s a showman and performer the same as Freddie was, obviously no one will ever match Freddie.
@@sarahwardle5556 that we can certainly agree on Sarah : )
sarah wardle
They all are showmen and performers. Marc is phenomenal in concert!
There is no way that Adam has the stage presence to match Freddie, he barely moves on stage.
I love your reviews as well as all the teaching moments. Your videos are among the very few which actually teach and are objective instead of pointing fingers. Thank you for the lessons!
Love all 3 of these guys! But would love to hear YOU!!! And your smile ❤️❤️❤️
I’m so excited for this video. I love Freddie Mercury. His voice is so versatile and beautiful.
So here's Queen 🤣
Sam, I love this for so many reasons. Thank you for not make it a competition between the singers. Each one is brilliant in his own rite. Loved hearing you being more "vocal", too. You'll have to treat us to a song one day. :)
Hi Sam, I came to you channel by... I don't know how it ended up in my recommendation but here I am. I used to sing all the time when I was a kid and a teen, I did some minor recordings, sang at a choir, played the piano, guitar and drums. Now I haven't sung in 25 years since the one time someone put me down about my voice (wasn't hard enough for singing I guess). My voice is really out of practice and I'm scared to go to a choir and begin singing again. But your videos really make me think about picking it up as a hobby again. Thank you! Now I go back to binge-watching
I’d sell my kidney to have you as my vocal coach 😭
Or you could sign up for lessons 🤣 You’ll probably have to wait a while because he’s a popular guy. I’ve been trying and he hasn’t been accepting any new students 😭
Freddie Mercury’s voice was one of a kind. He is irreplaceable. However “Somebody To Love” is an extremely difficult song to sing. You have to give kudos to anybody who does it
thank you for not putting them against each other. Would love to hear your opinion on Adam singing The Show Must Go On from the new Queen + Adam Lambert album "Live Around The World"
Yes, that was stunning!
Thank you for being a teacher that encourages exploration. Got emotional towards the end 😥❤
All three are amazing and unique
Unique? 2 unique singers, one copy.
Marc isn't unique but he's good, no hate really
It'd be really cool to see you analyze Marc Martel singing Nessun Dorma. I think he achieves a pretty decent classical sound for someone who doesn't primarily sing classical music, and it'd be nice to have your input, since you have a more formal classical background.
The problem with Marc's Nessun Dorma is that he is copying Pavarotti. People who don't listen to opera don't realize, that Pavarotti actually performs Nessun Dorma in a subpar manner. Nessun Dorma was a role written for a dramatic or spinto tenor, the highest note only goes to B4, because the song is about power. Pavarotti was a lyric tenor who became a bit tired of the youthful highly romantic roles you find within the lyric tenor fach. The roles for dramatic tenors are generally more mature and powerful. Pavarotti pushed himself into these roles. This is not Marc's fault, but like Pavarotti he also just a lyric tenor, that should likely just stay away from Nessun Dorma. Compare Pavarotti's Nessun Dorma against a real dramatic spinto tenor:
Pavarotti (no offence against Pavarotti he was a great lyric tenor but not suited for heavy roles):
ruclips.net/video/otHFNxx2t0M/видео.html
Franco Corelli - Nessun Dorma:
ruclips.net/video/sE4EgIG0pew/видео.html
@@ZENOBlAmusic Yes, I am aware that the role of Calaf is better-suited for heavier tenor voices. In the case of Marc Martel, though, I'm not really worried about that. Marc Martel performed the song in the privacy of his own home, not in an opera house, so fach is irrelevant. and I am more interested in the modifications he makes in his own vocal mechanism when he's singing more classically-oriented songs.
@@ZENOBlAmusic And just because Pavarotti's voice is considered too light for the role of Calaf, doesn't mean that his performances of Nessun Dorma are "subpar." Sure, the role wasn't written for his type of voice, but who actually cares about that when you're listening to the song isolated from the rest of the opera.
**Zenobia** Lol, snob alert. Let’s hear you do it instead
@@BC08 To be fair to Zenobia, he did give the disclaimer that he meant no disrespect to Pav, who is obviously one of the best singers of all time. I wouldn't go as far as to call him a snob.
So glad I found your channel through Roomie :) absolutely love your attitude towards singing, music and how wholesome but still professional you analyse people's singing. Soo nice 😇
I truly love listening to and learning from your videos. Hearing you layer on techniques to perform the notes and show how they can shape shift. You’re just too awesome
Great analysis! Loved how you explained and demonstrated.
@Sam Johnson love it when you demonstrate and sing along with the singers. It’s really helpful to hear your technique. It’d be cool if you did a video where you perform a piece and talk about the approach you take. Thanks for the video.
I enjoyed all the demonstrations in this one. More of that pls! It elevates both entertainment and educational elements.
Great video! I really enjoy these videos on classic hits, I relate to offer songs more than most new releases and as always I learned a lot from your commentary. Thank you Sam!
Marc just does freddies vowel placements and stuff his voice just noturally sounds similar to freddie

I absolutely love your videos. So good. I'm just a car/shower singer. But I've always appreciated vocals over everything.
I love this video and your breakdown and analysis of each performance and singer. Music is truly not a zero sum game!
I love that you worked zero sum game into this one. Well done.
I don't, because he's being diplomatic but I understand why needs to do it. It's pretty clear who is the best. Adam Lambert.
Was just listening to Queen and this popped up. Awesome analysis!
I really enjoyed the comparison! Thanks for an other great video!
Two words: George Michael. Sam, great analysis but please add something about that supernatural performance in one of your next videos.
Freddie's voice is like a brass instrument; bell-like and resonant. The other two are like a woodwind instrument; reedy and piercing. Both Marc and Adam are brilliant but, Freddie is a rare cut above the rest. Great vid!
Actually Adam is the better singer than all of them. Only that run in the end proves it if one is factual and not diplomatic.

Thanks for another interesting and informative video!
Been afk for a while, happy to see your hair growing again
Adam’s voice does sound “thinner” but it’s nice because he has so much comfort, confidence and power throughout his range. In my very seriously, non-professional opinion okurrr?
I love listening to the original Queen recordings and live concerts and I also love Queen + Adam Lambert. Honestly I really like the way Adam performs the Queen songs. On STL and KQ Adam has turned them into awesomely fun songs to watch and listen to. On WWTLF and TSMGO Adam has turned them into masterclass performances. I think it is incredible that one band has been lucky enough to have two amazingly talented frontmen. Freddie who helped create a timeless catalog of music that has influenced multiple generations, and Adam who has helped keep Queen as one of the best live performance bands in the world.
I like that your distortion is getting better, Sam :).
I love this channel because I never knew like signing was this complicated 😂 it’s so entertaining
You should make a reaction of Håkan Hellström! He’s super popular here in Sweden and very controversial because people say he can’t sing! It would be interesting to hear what you have to say about him!
I really enjoy how you explain your reasoning behind your critiques...which are generally gentle suggestions on how to improve the singers techniques.
I only just happened to catch you & this piece, even though I've never heard of or seen you/your channel i have to admit you totally ROCK 🤟 & I've now subscribed to your channel.

Marc's been told he sounded like Freddie before he ever did the Queen thing. I think comparing George Adam and Marc would have been better because the last was more like George.
Woah.... that wasn’t Freddie’s voice in Bohemian Rhapsody?! 😲 now I’m really impressed with the last dude
99% was Freddie's voice, Marc was used where they had no original recordings like Happy Birthday, Smile audition and Love of My Life. They recorded a lot of stuff but ended up having enough of Freddie's original vocals to not need most of it. variety.com/2019/artisans/news/queen-freddie-mercury-1203131746-1203131746/
One of your best videos ever, Sam.

You should have included George Michael’s version. Love it.
I have gotten to see both Marc Martel w/ Black Jacket Symphony and Adam Lambert w/ Queen in concert and they are both amazing! Freddie was the one who set the standard obviously and I was never able to see him. However, my opinion is that Adam is one hell of a showman and tells you he's never going to be Feddie f'n Mercury. He has amazing technique and knows how to play his audience like a fine tuned violin. The end of his somebody to love in Nashville was some sort of breath control sorcery. Marc is phenomenal and has amazing presence but he's definitely more of a mimic and that was him the entire concert. He doesn't have the same stage presence or fine tuned artistry.
Oh, Angela! What artistry are we talking about here? Adam holding one note for 15 seconds? LOL You are easily impressed! I also have seen both Marc and Adam live multiple times. Marc is a fully-fledged musician who is busy creating music on stage live, Adam struts around , grabs his crotch and wails. Marc all the way! Again and again! He lacks absolutely nothing! The man is an astounding singer and musician! Who cares if he peacocks around batting his eyelashes!
Adam has the whole package, voice, charisma, spontaneity, beauty, humor, stage movement, costumes, make-up, EVERYTHING
Everything except actual music skills. Lambert is a variety singer, which is nothing but karaoke. Who cares about costumes and make up where music is concerned? How well he plays instruments? Oh, well… he doesn’t… play… ANY instrument. How well does he compose? He doesn’t compose music bc he is musically illiterate, same as the majority of wannabe C-lebrities who go on reality shows to promote their hobby-talent. How well he sings? Listen to his a cappella videos!
@@papabearM3 Come on M3 stop all your bloody rubbish. Regarding Queen, Freddie is and always will be number one, he is totally irreplaceable. Do you miss me, or something? LOL
Who is trying to replace Freddie? Not Marc.
Adam stands in Freddie’s place, but most certainly is INCAPABLE of replacing him simply bc Freddie was a consummate musician, composer, lyricist, arranger, producer, he orchestrated, and led the band, besides fronting it and singing like a wild exotic bird! What of that can Adam do?
Adam sings. Like a white boy who fancies himself as an R&B singer thinking he fooled everyone. At least Marc knows how to do everything Freddie could, musically speaking - he ALSO plays multiple instruments, composes, write thoughtful lyrics, arranges, orchestrates, produces, mixes, beside fronting and leading his own phenomenal band. Can’t argue with that. Call him whatever you want. Facts speak for themselves.

And I know you are proud of Adam’s Nessun Dorma, but it’s not very good: he is off pitch and whiny and nasal. Just no.
If you want to hear a better version of the aria as coming from a non-opera singer, go listen to Marc’s version. At least, his is closer to a proper squillo. He sings it in a lovely rounded tone and in perfect pitch. Ciao
