Great timing, I was just chatting with someone who wants to brew their first batch and was telling them about Festa Brew and now can forward them the link to your video. Thanks for posting!
When filling your fermenter, do it in the bathtub so any spills are contained and easy to clean up, and the wort bag will be easier handle if you leave it in the box.
Hi there can you explain to me the pros and cons of keeping the same carboy for the whole process vs dumping it from plastic pale to carboy after a few days. Does the beer still taste the same by just doing it in a single carboy the whole time? Much appreciated
Hello, sorry for the extremely late reply. The reason we recommend keeping the beer in the primary is for 2 main reasons. #1 Avoiding Oxidation and #2 Less chance of bacteria ruining your beer. The carboy isn't a magical device that clarifies beer. It's the additional conditioning time that clears the beer. So for instance if you usually had it for 1 week in a pail and then 2 weeks in a carboy you can achieve the same results with 3 weeks in the pail. In the 80's there wasn't access to good homebrew supplies like you can get now so people would transfer off of the sediment to avoid off flavors, it's not necessary anymore. Cheers!
i would think if you activated the yeast separately you could just pour it in even if there's lots of foam. but make sure theres not much temperature differential between the wort and the activated yeast...
I'm doing with Festa kits, can I directly add dextrose into the prime fermentor after 3 weeks? I didn't use carboy as you told us, really convenient.:)
That's what I do. Add a dextrose simple syrup, give it a stir, wait a few hours for sediment to settle down again, then bottle. Takes 4+ days minimum to bottle condition before it called properly carbonated, and they get better the longer they condition. Just hard to wait the 10+ days until they hit their prime!
Hi ! I began a dry festa beer kit 6 days ago. I want to add some fresh hops from my garden soon in the second fermentor. The thing is my bucket cap is bubbly a little but the bucket temperature doesn’t seem to be warm enough ( the room is at 20 C ) .. should I wait ?
Hi, I typically leave the beer in the primary until the day I keg or bottle it. If you want to rack to your carboy around day 5 should be good. You want most of the fermentation to be done before transferring. So if the airlock is just bubbling once in a while, that would be a good time to transfer.
You would add roughly 27 grams of dextrose to the 4 liters of beer. Keep in mind growlers aren't made to carbonate beer in so they may explode. Keep them in a box covered with a towel just in case.
Hi, any beer you make that you are going to bottle will need sugar added right before bottling. For a Festa kit you will need roughly 5.5oz of dextrose. Cheers
Have any of you tried a Festa Brew beer kit before? How did you like it?
I tried the "Double oatmeal stout" some time ago and was impressed with how good it was.
@@bigrockk2980 I heard that one was supposed to be very good.

Yup that would work.

Have you ever pressure fermented these kits, if so how did they turn out? Do you need to use priming sugar when pressure fermenting?
I usually pressure ferment any beer I make. I would not recommend pressure fermenting if you are bottling your beer, only if you keg it. Cheers

Hi, I like to add my dry hops once fermentation is complete.
How will I know for sure when I can transfer the beer into a carboy, after 5 days if its not ready will it ruin it? Sorry this is my first time

So after keging. If i were to bottle the last 4 liters in to growlers,,, how much sugar do i add?

Sounds good. Thanks. Do you recommend using gelatin for these kits?
Do i need to add sugar or anything at the end

what area is that map of behind you?
Not sure, it's something my wife found at homesense :P
Do you use gelatin with these kits?
Hi, you can use gelatin with any beer kit. Works best if you can also cold crash the beer when you add it.
