Before interleague play, the Cubs and White Sox used to play each other in the last exhibition game before the regular season. It was called "The Windy City Classic"
Watching Michael Jordan do well against the Cubs, and help the White Sox finish without losing is awesome every time. I think this was the best game of his short baseball career.
What a good guy!! This is one the best on-the-field interviews I ever heard. From it you learn that hockey and swimming is not one of his games. Would you believe to hear that?
Anybody who criticizes Jordan as a baseball player has no clue what he was trying to accomplish! His father passed away and growing up, baseball was their first love. There is more to this story.
@dahgutone You simply cannot understand what Michael Jordan was. You didn't live through those years so you won't be able to understand it. I can just tell you, that Michael Jordan was bigger than the sport he played in. He was intelligent, classy, strong willed, hard working, and a winner. Everything you could ask for in an athlete, he had it. On and off the court. His dominance on the basketball court remains unmatched. If you lived through this years, and then watch current stars..
I really like MJ's attitude about it. If he fails, at least he tried. He failed and he tried and he went back to basketball. I do however think it really sucked that we never got a Bulls/Rockets finals. That would have been amazing. 1993-1994 Finals could have been maybe the greatest ever...If Jordan didn't "retire" they probably would have won 8 straight titles
@rairjordan I'm watching the 30 for 30 episode right now and I can tell you that's the reason why I came to this video. I'm only one person, but I bet that explains the latest surge of comments
2:45-->After Baseball enjoy retirement..... Well if achieving the greatest season ever for his team (1995-96 Bulls) is in anyone's retirement plans then they really are one of the greatest athletes ever.
+John Rose Most likely a spring training game. Skippers decide if they wanna push more innings but since it's spring training, usually just maxs out at 10 innings.
This was back in the 90's before "inter-league play". NL and AL did NOT have regularly scheduled games like they do between eachother. This game in 1994 was what they called an "exhibition". The Cubs and Sox would always reserve one game a year (much like the All Star Game) to play eachother for the fans of Chicago. Again, this was before it became a regularly scheduled thing. Now the Cubs and Sox play two, three games series against eachother and they both count towards their season record..
Wow. This sure brings me back. I was a Sox and a Bulls fan back then, and when Jordan "retired" from basketball the first time, it was heartbreaking. Then to see him go to my baseball team was just awesome. Well, it was for a while until it came to the realization that he was playing with the wrong ball... Too bad the season had to get shortened too, because the Sox were a friggin' juggernaut. MJ was just good publicity.. not a good ball player. BA of .202 and an OPS of under .600 Not good.
@harahetto thx for the recent comments, can I ask, are these flurry of comments because of the 30 for 30 documentary, "Jordan rides the bus", or was this clip mentioned on a website or something?
@PHIL9332 On the contrary. The stands were sold out constantly...but more pro-scouts came to those games, both home and away, so I guess you can say those players received MORE opportunities and more looks by scouts than if Jordan wasn't there. I suppose if you were incredible the scouts would've sought you out anyway though. Stats will bring the scouts.
If there was not a late start to the 1995 season Jordan may have stuck with Baseball because he was improving in the fall league from where he was when he started the season.
Given that this was an exhibition game between 2 Chicago teams anyway.. you think Cubs intentionally let Jordan hit and be easy on him to give fans what they wanted to see? I am not necessarily disagreeing with this from a marketing point of view.
@Crabman2186 He batted .255 in the Fall League which is the premier minor league squads. He didn't even get 2 full seasons under his belt and hadn't played since high school. A lot of coaches and writers believe he would've of made it to the MLB. Please keep your ignorant comments in your head before you try an look smart.
This video is so surreal. It's like a crazy ass dream by some Chicago meathead.
But NO, it actually happened! Great video. Thanks for sharing!
magicuno lol

"A lot of people view me as a decent athlete" - Michael Jordan... how big of an understatement is that?
Watching Michael Jordan do well against the Cubs, and help the White Sox finish without losing is awesome every time. I think this was the best game of his short baseball career.
Two Chicago Icons here. Harry and His Airness
I heard Michael jordan also tried playing basketball after playing baseball
MrJoeMontano 😂
What a good guy!! This is one the best on-the-field interviews I ever heard. From it you learn that hockey and swimming is not one of his games. Would you believe to hear that?

Anybody who criticizes Jordan as a baseball player has no clue what he was trying to accomplish! His father passed away and growing up, baseball was their first love. There is more to this story.

Damn this is so inspiring I am so glad Michael did this!!!
MJ is the best basketball player to ever play baseball.
i love harry caray
I gotta tell ya, that White Sox line-up with Jordan in it is pretty damn good!
I really like MJ's attitude about it. If he fails, at least he tried. He failed and he tried and he went back to basketball. @rairjordan I'm watching the 30 for 30 episode right now and I can tell you that's the reason why I came to this video. I'm only one person, but I bet that explains the latest surge of comments
OZZIE GUILLEN WAS PLAYING.
2:45-->After Baseball enjoy retirement..... Well if achieving the greatest season ever for his team (1995-96 Bulls) is in anyone's retirement plans then they really are one of the greatest athletes ever.
2 knocks in his 1st pro game. baller.
at 7:11 look at the guy who is closest to the camara on the front row with the shades and the green jacket. He fliped the camara the arm
was this the first year that the Budweiser ad was on the rooftop?
this is so weird seeing him in a baseball uniform, he's the sort of bloke that could pick up a ping pong bat and kick anyones ass, what a legend.
Why did they stop it after 10 innings? I heard Wrigley was the last field to get lights, and to play night games.
It was just an exhibition game
+John Rose Probably because it was a meaningless exhibition game.
+John Rose Most likely a spring training game. Skippers decide if they wanna push more innings but since it's spring training, usually just maxs out at 10 innings.
They didn't have lights at the time I don't think
spring training no need for anyone to get hurt
MJ's game footage is from 4:07 until 6:56
Jordan is a "bad" baseball hitter because he is tall and he has a huge strike zone!

Michael Jordan Could've Played For Nationals or CWS At This Age lol ...Im Serious though he's in terrific shape
Wow. This sure brings me back. I was a Sox and a Bulls fan back then, and when Jordan "retired" from basketball the first time, it was heartbreaking. It hit off his glove in fair territory. Fair ball!
@harahetto thx for the recent comments, can I ask, are these flurry of comments because of the 30 for 30 documentary, "Jordan rides the bus", or was this clip mentioned on a website or something?
GOATs
He played for the right team. He kept it in Chicago.
@dahgutone us cubs fan root for the bulls too and despite him being in a sox uniform we love him, hes a chicago icon. Go Cubs and Bulls
This game looked like it was called due to darkness.
The unofficial scorecard, It's the Pale Hose
unofficial coolness, off the chart. In his part time, Air picks up some ribbies!
@jcred420 thx!

DAMN it dosent get any more CHICAGO than this
wonder days in Chicago
If there was not a late start to the 1995 season Jordan may have stuck with Baseball because he was improving in the fall league from where he was when he started the season.
he pay or not, the truth remains that he can hit that damn ball.!!!!
Met harry twice on rush street both times he was wasted reached his hand out to shake he wasn't a stuck up person at all
@Crabman2186 This wasn't a regular season game either bro. Does the word "exhibition" mean anything to you?
It was his dream to play in the majors that's reason enough to give it a shot...
ever since i watched space jam i could never trust catchers again
This is the only time you'll ever see cubs fans cheering for the white sox
@rairjordan haha yeah, i just finished watching the Jordan rides the bus doc. on the internet.
"Jordan with an RBI single!"
imagine jordan's first homerun, people must have been punching each other in the face for that homerun ball
such a good kid going to baseball because his father envisioned him playing in the majors yeah he sucks at baseball but hey his dad would be proud
Wtf y is there no xtra innings
Why did the game ended in a tie ???
Spring training only goes 10 innings, after that its a tie.
oh harry...RIP
@Blueford1979 who, Michael Jordan!?
Shit if retirement means another 3peat Fuck everyone should retire
Close - he retired in October 1993...
was he the only player being in the NBA and MLB???
after his first retirement, before his 1995 comeback to NBA...
@Blueford1979 He's more an NBA player and will remain a legend.
he knew he wasent gonna be great in base ball he just wanted to see how it felt
Why did the game end in a tie? Was it preseason?
After first basketball run but before his comeback
What position did he play?
Given that this was an exhibition game between 2 Chicago teams anyway.. you think Cubs intentionally let Jordan hit and be easy on him to give fans what they wanted to see? I am not necessarily disagreeing with this from a marketing point of view.
Psh freaken jordan dude :)
It's awesome that Jordan got an RBI, but what the hell was that catcher doing? Any competent MLB player should have gotten that guy out. Major fail.
Was this before, during or after his basketball career ?????
Youngndreckless he retired briefly before returning. This was after he won his first 3 championships and before winning his other 3c.
He was pretty good
And m.v.p. nba champion of the world spacejam movie rocks i have it ha ha ha i grew up to micheal Jordan brett farve deion sanders
@Crabman2186 He batted .255 in the Fall League which is the premier minor league squads. He didn't even get 2 full seasons under his belt and hadn't played since high school. @davitodude
Anybody can hit well against the Scrubbies!

BEFORE BASKETBALL CAREER
If MJ did so well in this game why the hell didnt he do well in the minors???
CutterHistorical They had went on strike and he went back to basketball he was just getting his power up to..
@jellybean545 Yeah it would , but I see him more as a Qb.
@gaarafan5555 tell us something WE DON'T KNOW
@MrReman23 he does soccer like steve nash
Only in Chicago can two teams play against each other and STILL not win!!!
Not before, in between
