:35 - :38 is that quintessential, raw, rugged, rough, tried-and-true tone that only Neil Young has ever been able to offer to me as a listener and life-long fan, and I simply will never get enough of it... God bless Neil and all he has done for the world of music.

Dr Pedant writes: strictly speaking, it's a 1950 Fender Broadcaster, the forerunner of the Telecaster, before Fender were forced to change the name for copyright reasons. Neil also owned a rarely used Tele but he sold that at auction for $22,000 five years ago.

Yes the Broadcaster - interesting! We are talking the same overall sound as 'Tele', rear pickup and neck pickup on a slab of Pine/Swamp Ash/Alder-this was the sound of Tonight's The Night eh, it makes good sense!

It's probably his 1950 Broadcaster, which he has played on and off in a few tours ever since he used it to record the album Tonight's The Night. The tune he's playing here is from that album, probably why he brought it out.

yeah very cool, I think he recorded it on that guitar, since it was during a time when his favorite Les Paul was not working, due to a pickup being sent out to a shop for work, and then the shop went out of business...lol

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that is a Fender Broadcaster rather than a telecaster.

  • @diamondrhyme

@cudaj2 It's fine. As far as I know, he only used the Telecaster on the songs on the Tonite's the NIght Album, which is why he's using it in this case.
