  • Thanks for growing with us!
    After a wonderful trip to Cape Cod for the Hydrangea Festival, we have returned to find the garden looking fantastic. New colors from bee balm, daylily, dahlias, and more. In this video we are taking you on a walk through the garden to check in now that it is the middle of July. We hope you enjoy the way our backyard landscaping has taken shape. The textures and colors are really showing through this season.

    Just beautiful. Funny story...I have a blue satin Hibiscus that one year decided to give a shoot of pink flowers so the shrub now is basically half pink half blue. Last year the blue side decided to give me one pure white bloom. It was beautiful and I am hoping for more this year. Not sure if it somehow reverted back to some parent or how this happens but these types of surprises are part of my love of gardening.

For instance, did you build/start your garden by planting left to right or right to left, etc? How did you know how to plant in the manner in which you did? I hope my question makes sense! The garden is looking gorgeous!
    Your Weewhite Hydrangea near the front porch are most likely drying out and heat stressed due to the placement. The driveway pavement and full sun will over heat them and dry them out fast, causing the blooms to brown.

    • @growformegardening
      @growformegardening  Месяц назад +1

      They are four years old and this is the first time we have encountered the issue. This summer has been much hotter than the past

    • @juliepardo7767
      @juliepardo7767 Месяц назад +2

      @@growformegardening Check the soil around it, go down at least 6-8 inches and see if the drip is reaching down that far. Being four years old, the root system is mature, deep and expansive. The heat from the pavement(especially during extreme temperatures), full sun, plus the competition from the plants around it will effect how much water the hydrangea is able to absorb, and it will effect the blooms. Also, making sure not to fertilize during extreme heat is very important, too much stress on the plant.
      Sorry to sound like such a bossy pants. I just wanted to help and pass along information that I learned over the years with similar issues from my gardens.

    • @growformegardening
      @growformegardening  Месяц назад +1

    How will visitors to your garden know what varieties of plants you have? I haven't noticed any plant tags showing in your yard - you know the names by heart. It will be exhausting to run around telling them during the Walk. We've been in 3 Garden Walks and found it most helpful to draw up a 'schematic' of our property with the names all filled in. We posted these on the Garage doors so visitors can readily find the. plant names & variety.

Mine is on the NE corner of my two-story home, getting afternoon sun until late evening when it gets shade from our shop, and is getting water spray from that garden's sprinkler head. Love your gardens. What do you do with the Japanese beetles, they totally ruined my roses, this is the first year I had them, was too late when I saw them. I cut my roses back, I might get rid of my roses. What are your suggestions, I am afraid that they will ruin my hydrangeas, which are my favourite plants.

    How many hours are you individually able to put into the garden? I can’t recall you both discussing potential other jobs. I’m so astonished with what you accomplish and maintain.

      haha yes we have full time jobs. We do some work in the evenings but the big stuff happens on the weekends. Thank goodness for drip irrigation. The garden takes care of itself when we aren't able to tend to it

    How many hours of direct sun does the Limelight hydrangea wall get? We planted a Fire light in full direct sun but the flowers are starting to burn it seems. Our plan was to do a Limelight wall like yours on the back but we’re afraid it will be too much sun now.
    Thanks!
