- TRAVEL GUIDE NORTHUMBERLAND: Where to stay & which places to visit (Part 1)// Hello lovely people, We are so happy to share another travel vlog - we spent a wonderful and exciting weekend in beautiful Northumberland and this is part 1: If you're into self-catering we share what website you can use to find a beautiful accommodation in Northumberland/the Scottish Borders and which places are really worth seeing. On top of the list is definitely Lindisfarne on Holy Island, driving there along the causeway is a highlight.
Oh and on your way to Northumberland, we can highly recommend a visit to Hawick if you're into tweed like we are. Hawick is the home of tweed with great tweed mills and Lovat Mill is our absolute favourite shop to visit there. Also Pringle of Scotland has an outlet store there so really worth browsing. “Holy Island “ I remember it well. For us children at school in the sixties and living in the north east it was somewhere we regularly went on school trips...........but always careful about remembering the tide times.🏊♀️🏊♀️🏊♀️🚣♂️🚣♂️

Ooooo, I would love to spend time at the Tweed outlets. Joerg, the tomato sauce looked so delicious, it made me hungry.
Now that I've finished watching it, I just want to say how peaceful and perfect the last scenes are at the castle grounds. The music exquisitely matches the tone of the landscape and makes for a most lovely escape from the realities of this harsh world. Thank you ever so much and god bless you both.

milkshake123 Hi, Milkshake, as a proud Northumbrian lass, I'd like to point out that only shopping bit at the start was in Scotland, the 'ruggedly beautiful' scenery and the castle on Holy Island/Lindisfarne is actually just over the border, in Northumberland in ENGLAND :)

Can recommend the overnight tour to the highlands ,they booked our b + b and it was quaint, similar to the places kirsten stays and reasonable price.

We live in a small stone cottage, so y our accommodations reminded me of home.
Loved the decor in the castle. And What Joerg said about it. Simple and minimal. Very calm.
That tweed bag goes with my new wool skirt. You find the coolest items on your travels. I'm such a hat person and the cap is classic.
Hope to visit UK one day. And find some gems, too.

So very beautiful. I love the Tweed bag. It looks like your and Jörg's coats that you sometimes wear. And how neat to have a Tweed jacket made for Jörg. The causeway to the castle looks a bit challenging. One would have to keep aware of the tides at all times! The castle looks so atmospheric in the distance. Whenever I see such structures on top of mounds, I always think of the numerous generations of previous dwellers and incarnations associated through time with the present. I have got to get to Great Britain sometime. I really want to visit Scotland, especially, being descended from MacPhersons. It looks so romantic, wet and cold! Imagine what living in that castle would have been like with no electricity! No wonder the lifespans were so short! Thank you for such a lovely visit and tour! I always treasure wandering with you and Jörg!

HELLO AGAIN! I can’t help myself from binging all of your beautiful videos of your trips, Kristen...but this one particularly fascinated me because we lived in the west of Scotland in the late 60’s for 3 years. But what makes me soooo sad is that we never got to Holy Island to tour Lindisfarne Castle... ooh ...those interior rooms, fireplaces and furniture! The staging made me feel as if I was living there having tea and crumpets! We also spent 6 weeks visiting England and Scotland several years ago. A granddaughter was marrying a Scotsman and they had planned to have their reception in a castle in Moffet, Scotland on the border. We were ‘the scouts’ sent to check it out on our trip. As it turned out, they were married here. Thank you so much for the memories...your filming, music and discussions enthrall me! ❤️ NANNY

Loved the tweed weekend bag you bought in Scotland .Lindesfarne looked so special ,and would have been peaceful if you could have weekends there.I painted a watercolour of Lindesfarne from the beach below .I gave it to an American Friend who had visited it with her late husband .It reminded her of that time .

My maternal grandmother came from Bedlington. Near Morpeth. My great aunt stayed up there, but my grandmother moved to the south when she left school in 1938. There are some lovely little books, by a man called Denis O’Connor, the Paw Tracks series, about his cute little cottage, and all his cats. I’m sure they are still in print.

Oh there were but we were quite lucky as we started early in the morning so it's wasn't too busy but we often wait for a longer period of time for visitors to leave a room so we can film. Thanks so much!

So glad I had a re-visit to your video as I am holidaying in Cornhill upon tweed at the end of the week. Been to the area many times and have stayed in Crabtree and Crabtree accommodation too. I need another visit to the Lovat shop, the throw on my bed is from there and it’s been a godsend, so warm and the quality is brilliant. Hopefully we get to go inside the castle on Holy island this time as it was closed when we visited last time!

Vielen Dank liebe Brigitte! Ja, richtig toll ist die Insel und das Castle, wie überhaupt Northumberland, es gibt so viel zu sehen. Wir möchten unbedingt auch nach Alnwick Castle (dort wurden Teile von Downton Abbey gedreht) aber es hatte leider noch zu. Liebe Grüße
