- SHOPPING at the BEST & NICEST SUPERMARKET IN THE UK// Happy Tuesday everyone, We will visit our family in Germany very soon and decided to go to one of the best and nicest supermarkets in the UK: Waitrose! Waitrose is regarded as a posh supermarket in England so it's usually not our go-to supermarket but you can get nice products here so it's definitely always a treat to come here (they also have many German products). We bought some products for us and some goodies for our family. We hope you like our Waitrose food haul. Kirsten & Joerg xx

Sometimes seniors or single people will buy pre-made because it's easier and less waste in the long run. My Mom used to buy pre-made in her 80's, otherwise, we found she would just eat toast or cereal for supper, people have their reasons. That is the cleanest grocery store I have ever seen!
I'm so excited to go to Germany with you 🙌❤
@@KirstenJoerg As a young person who has a chronic illness, buying readymade foods is my only option on days when I'm too unwell to cook. Age doesn't mean there isn't a reason, you just might not be able to see it.
@@FatiguedButFabulous 👋👋👋
Absolutely, it makes total sense. Having older (and one of them being very ill) parents, we understand. It came across the wrong way with having chosen the wrong word as it wasn't meant like that at all tbh.
I have to agree. When people are cooking a meal for their loved ones, they will spend all day in the kitchen. But for just themselves..nope. toast, sandwich or bowl of cereal lol. My mom, and a friend of hers used to save the containers that ready meals came in. Then when they would cook on Sundays, they could divide leftovers and freeze them. It seemed to work well for them.
As someone who has never left the U.S, I enjoyed the views from the car window! Loved the old old buildings!
Have a look in the centre of Chester at the wooden buildings….i live a couple of hours drive away…but im always agog at the history there..
Only you two can make grocery shopping fun!!❤️
they are addictive! lol
I'm really fascinated by the views when you drive thru the village's and towns. I have never left the USA and dream of visiting the UK! Your videos are so refreshing.
The ready made meals can be a God-send to someone like myself who is disabled & maybe lives alone, & for some elderly people as well who just can not cook for themselves properly anymore. With food prices going up so much as they are, it is going to be difficult for most to be able to afford ready made meals as they have done in the past, but I do agree with you Kirsten, fresh is best.
I know, for elderly people and people living alone ready-made can be very convenient.
@@4jfjf I do not think that Kirsten meant to be hurtful in anyway, just a slip of the tongue thing, that can happen to the best of us sometimes!
@@sharonjojo This is exactly what is was, just expressed very badly. Sorry about that.
@@KirstenJoerg Please do not worry both of you, enjoy your trip to Germany with a free mind, everyone knows that you are good & decent thinking people.
@@sharonjojo Thanks so much!
I love Waitrose ❤️
I love these ‘slice of life’ videos. It’s fun getting to see what simple activities like going to the supermarket are like in different countries.
Yes, and to see the quirkiness of local specialties. Like "Lapsang Souchong Tea-Smoked Salmon." I love salmon and I love lapsang souchong tea but... seriously?
I love Waitrose! Singles, seniors and people traveling will often buy ready made meals for convenience and less waste. Usually the ready made food is of better quality there. Hope you two have fun in Germany. Your family and friends will love the thoughtful gifts!

Oh, we love shopping at Waitrose everytime we are in the UK! Feels like holiday to watch you! And funny to see that you also go for the unique and funny packaging like we do 🤣😍
Hahah yes, it's always so much fun especially when looking for goodies.
If both parents work and they have hungry growing children, those pre-made meals can be a god-send. But of course if you have time then you needn't go for them. That was fun shopping!
I live in Australia now but I used to love shopping at Waitrose ! So nostalgic for the times spent browsing the aisles.
Hallo ihr zwei! Endlich finde ich wieder Zeit für Eure Videos! 😊Fühlt Euch gerückt!
Das ist so ein großes Kompliment, tausend Dank! Liebe Grüße
Have a wonderful time with your family Kirsten and Joerg. I am sure they will love the presents 🎁
Thanks so much Jane!
Watching you from New Zealand. Love you guys! We only have 2 main supermarkets here so would love one of these stores as well. We don't have the competition to keep prices down. Seems strange to watch people shop but we love it! We love all of your videos now we have found you two. 💕
We have been to your country 4 times. We always grocery shop there because it’s too expensive to eat out all the time. But I must say, your restaurant food is great. Not overly salted, not too much added sugar, and plenty of gluten free and dairy free options. So getting back to your grocery stores, yes, nothing posh like Waitrose.
Oh Kirsten, I can’t wait for Winter and hot chocolate either……but only for the festive season. January is usually such a depressing, bleak month, but I’m going to really try and find little things that redeem it.
Also, during the winter I’m going try to find cost effective heat sources, such as my hot water bottle and I being joined at the hip and wearing multiple layers of clothing.
I hope you both have/are having a lovely time in Germany. I’d love to visit one day.
I really enjoy experiencing little things in your daily life as well as your travels. Have a safe trip to Germany. Already looking forward to next week's video.
It can be nice to have a couple of readymades in the freezer for emergencies or when a day goes sideways. We farm and raise most of our own meat but I will occasionally buy something that we don’t have. I think it’s probably better quality than fast food. Also, some people have such stressful jobs that they may feel the readymades are a better option than not eating. All this to say that We are lucky to have so many options- many don’t!
Love them....looking at the food and discussing it...
What a fun shopping trip! Safe travels to Germany.
I enjoyed that. Spending an ordinary morning in the store with you was enjoyable. It is fun to see some of the same products that we have in the states. Loved the car ride. Thanks for another fun time, and take care as always.
When we return for our holidays to UK staff in grocery stores hover over us. The reason is that we spend so long looking at things, picking them up, putting them down. They get suspicious I suppose! We enjoy finding things we used to love when living in England. We also are shocked at how cheap things can be compared to our prices in Canada.
I’ve never seen anyone enjoy grocery shopping so much. Makes me want to go shopping immediately. Thank you for this lovely video.
I hope your family enjoyed their presents. 👍
Enjoyed warching you going around the British Supermarket 💕
Hello!! I'm from India and i absolutely love ur vlogs!! I randomly discovered them...and boy !! I'm addicted to them. They're so relaxing! I love the way you speak!! I also love the countryside and ur videos are perfect!!
Waitrose has everything!! I love that you bought things for each of your Mums!! So much fun I got hungry.. love Walkers shortbread!! Thank you for such a fun tour Kirsten and Joerg!! ❤️❤️
I don't travel very much. Only left the U.S. once to spend a few days in Canada.....so I truly love your videos Kirsten and Joerg. Thank you for taking me shopping with you. That store is quite special. So interesting to see all the different packaging. I could smell that bread....my weakness. Looking forward to joining you in Germany. Blessings my friends. ❤️
I love going to the supermarket when I travel. This is so much fun.
How fun to go shopping with you! I hope you'll have a wonderful time in Germany! Take care!
you are bless having a husband that likes to cook
Hello from Springdale Newfoundland Canada 🇨🇦
I Love how you think things through before buying items. I also enjoy listening to you both as well.
Noticing those chocolate tea cakes and Carmel bars...we have those here in Newfoundland .
Imported from the UK,of course.
For the most part they're only found in Newfoundland. Hard to find in the rest of Canada 🍁
It jade me smile seeing those items.
Anyway, Enjoy your trip to Germany and be safe. ✌️⚘️😊
Hi from Southern Ontario , you can find those items in British shops here and some grocery stores that have an International section .
WooHoo, I really enjoyed this grocery shopping trip, especially seeing the Tyrrell's crisp brand (LoL😆). So many interesting, new products since I lived in the UK. Hope you'll consider taking us shopping when you're in Germany. (ie Villeroy/Boch?) 💞Safe travels, all the best to your parents & family, much love to you Kirsten and Jöerg. XoXo
Thanks so much! Oh sadly no V & B this time, our schedule is so so packed with visiting everybody in Germany as they don't live close to each other.
@@KirstenJoerg Not to worry, just be blessed dear one's and enjoy your time with family. I don't want to sound like a broken record, but I do love all of your video's. 😘xxxx
It's not a question of being lazy. I work a 10 hour day every day and it's nice to have ready made meals a few times a week so I don't have to think about cooking as I get home very late every night.
They spend their lives putting themselves first - easy living.
😱 OMG! To be able to buy Gluten Free savoury meat pie and have choices, just in an everyday grocery store is amazing. Lucky you! You two remind me of my husband and me, when we visit the UK. We love to shop in the UK grocery stores and find all the things we would love to try or favourites that we can’t get back in Canada 🍁. If my daughter isn’t with us, we must bring back English Chocolate as chocolate in North America is nothing in comparison to European chocolate 🍫 Mmmm 😋 same goes for the crisps!
We have to shop at Uk Specialty shops if we want to buy here, but it is so much more expensive. It’s definitely worth, taking a trip back to the UK. See you lovelies next time. Take care 🤗🇨🇦
I love the foil wrapped teacakes from Waitrose.
I live in Canada - and confuse people when I go grocery shopping because I always use the lovely Tesco bags I got in Bristol. Loved the video - Waitrose is a beautiful supermarket chain!
England soo...peaceful...shopping early...good idea....good selection of food..
How lovely to go shopping with you both. Some lovely packaging on these products. My favourite product has to be the naked crisps! Have a very safe journey to Germany visity family and hopefully we shall see some of it too. XXX
Thanks so much!
Your trips to the market always fascinate me because, not only do I enjoy seeing what you like, but how much things cost in the UK, compared to ours here in the US. I do envy how many gluten free products are available to you there. Finding gluten free "anything" is like digging for gold here across the pond! I, too, have to eat gluten free, but I usually have to do without or make it myself, which is not feasible for me at this time. You "lucky ducks!"
down memory lane for me thank you. I remember Waitrose very well, high end but wonderful products for sure :) Lidl is also a favourite of mine. Fun video !
I love Waitrose and used to go shopping so often when I was in the UK. This video is very enjoyable and I hope to see more. Thank you!
It’s always such a joy to see you’ve posted another video. Thank you! Happy, safe travels! ❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸❤️🇬🇧❤️
I can't wait for winter either, Kirsten, so, to me, it's not a bad thing to say! I'm craving hot chocolate! What a wonderful place to shop! Enjoy your trip!
Do try some ready meals, they are really nice especially if you get them from a good supermarket. They are so handy to have if you are in a hurry or going out for the evening. It saves you the work of getting a meal ready.
K&J that was just total fun - I was so glad that I was having a white-chocolate /macadamia cookie and a coffee while you shared all these amazing food and drink items. We are lucky to have a couple of higher-end grocery stores very close to us as truly you can find so many amazing products. I noticed that the prices were very comparable to here (Southern Coast of US). You put one of my ALL TIME fave cookies in the cart and that is Walker's Shortbread. I will confess to having eaten an entire (small) box of them one night for dinner. I have been going thru your older Vlogs and have just watched the 2-part on Cornwall - stunning! Thank you as always for being master story tellers (truly) and of course the amazing footage. Safe travels to Germany. Gute Nacht!
Fentimen's Rose Lemonade is the BEST! I had my first bottle when I visited the Lake District and, after that, I had to have it everywhere I went in England. It can be a bit pricey in the States but if you look around you can find it at a reasonable price. I, too, love quirky packaging basically on anything. I have been known to buy wine for its label (I collect the best ones) and haven't really ended up with any undrinkable bottles. Can't wait to see the sights with you in Germany! Enjoy your visit.
It's such a great lemonade, we really love it!
Holidaying in the UK from Australia, we also found that Waitrose is a fantastic supermarket and of course the prepared meals were very handy when we wanted to take food back to our accommodation, we really didn't care about the price simply because the food is good quality and is cheaper than eating out every night. I must admit though that spending 99 pounds in one shop is a lot. We don't have Waitrose in Australia, we have Aldi which is always cheaper than Woolworths, Coles and IGA supermarkets. Thanks guys for the video it was handy seeing the prices, I just double the price which gives me a rough idea in Australian dollars.
Watching from Libertyville, Illinois. You guys are always adorable.
I love the variety of goods available in England. So much more than here in Australia. I would spend ages in those supermarkets. I was very surprised though to see the bread unwrapped on display so anyone can touch it!
Thanks so much for watching! It's honestly no problem regarding the bread (it's the same in Aldi & Lidl), people do manage it very perfectly.
Oh I loved this as Waitrose was our favourite place to shop when in the UK. If I lived there I could spend hours in that store just looking at the very original packaging. Thank you for doing 'Show & Tell' at Waitrose for us. 🥰 Have a lovely and safe trip to Germany to visit your families.
Kirsten would love to met your sister and i love when you go to GERMANY and shopping
Aww thank you! Have 2 sisters but they don't want to be on RUclips I'm afraid.
@@KirstenJoerg could you show a picture so we can see who they look like if not that’s ok
This was fun!!!! My grandfather and great grandfather were grocers, so I always visit grocery stores when I travel. Thanks for taking me along!
I love those foil wrapped teacakes in the yellow box!! They are divine! Have a lovely trip to Germany!! 🌷 Stay safe dears!
Thank you Kirsten & Joerg! Bon voyage alors!

Wow, it's huge!
Love this grocery store. Very clean. Safe travels to Germany and enjoy your family. 😍😘
Hi you two. Loved your shopping trip, they certainly have a good selection. Have a safe journey to Germany. xxx
My mum is in her 80s and struggles with cooking every day , she substitutes a couple of meals a week for good quality ready made meals from either Waitrose or M & S … but normally people with families wouldn’t buy them as it would always work out too expensive ( and I find the portions too small !)
Totally makes sense! Yes, it’s very expensive for a family.. We do work long hours and found great recipes that are super quick and easy.
I named our golden retriever puppy Chester after the city Chester as I love it’s ancient Roman history!
Enjoy your time with your family in Germany Kirsten and Joerg. Ineke x
Sometimes older people find the ready meals convenient for them as maybe they can't stand too long in the kitchen to prepare a meal etc....Great shopping though!
Kirsten & Joerg. Enjoyed shopping with you two. Can't wait to see Germany. Have a safe trip. Rom & Dovie
Waitrose is a lovely store. We used to shop at the Tenterden store when we lived in Rye. We also passed the Chapel Down vineyard and shop on the way there so it was a great day out shopping 😊. Unfortunately now we’ve moved to my home town of Sunderland there’s no Waitrose nearby, I think I would have to go to the John Lewis food hall in Newcastle city centre. I’m perfectly happy shopping at Sainsbury’s or Lidl or Aldi now. I also pop in to M&S if I want a treat. Thanks as always for sharing another interesting video.
Absolutely, Waitrose is lovely but quite pricey, nice to enjoy once in a while. Lidl and Aldi have great products.
hope you film your Germany trip! that's always fun
Hi Kirsten and Joerg, you two can make any day interesting, even shopping 😄 I love Waitrose too, but like you, not too often, can’t wait to see the next video, safe journey home to Germany you two, much love xxxxxxxxxx😘❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
It’s to dry in the Netherlands as well, we are not used to that. But the last ten years and especially the last 5 years are far to dry. We used to be a wet green country with to much water, now we live like in the Mediterranean climate. The summer began in April and its still dry and hot weather.
Favorite grocery store when we visit England. Love their millionaire shortbread!
Wow! Lovely stuff
You guys! I was actually cracking up at some of the names...the Pieminister! 😂😂 Cute play on words, or titles I should say!
Very sweet you taking "treats " to your parents.i hope you have a very enjoyable & safe trip.
Love those wavers..caramel biscuits..
I have so much fun shopping whit you 😄!!!
Hi Kirsten and Joerg,
Once more loved your take on shopping at the lovely Supermarket .
Very Happy to hear of your plans to visit your parents and family
Looking forward to your next Vlog from 🇩🇪 Germany .

Waitrose! 🤩
Love Waitrose mind you I love any European supermarket I love the choices and packaging they are very clever with that , I also do love the organic produce and Gf products which can be expensive I know , looking forward to your trip to Germany xx
Waitrose is English not European 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
I hope this isnt too weird but I really like your voice for some reason, it's cheerful and make's me smile haha :)
My in-laws live in Bangladesh and one of things they asked for was Yardley Soap. (Too cute) We bought a few USA 🇺🇸 tee shirts. When we got home it turned out they were “Made in Bangladesh”!!!
I have to admit. Mostly I watch your videos because I absolutely love sound of your voices. And then everything else of course ❤️ Very calm an enjoyable videos ❤️
Wow! I can’t believe the prices in UK. Those same items would cost me 3 to 4 times more in Canada
I think Canada has higher salaries in general so that's definitely something to consider.
@@KirstenJoerg Not true Kirsten. Many government employees haven’t had a decent raise in over 15 years. Private working class are suffering hardships to. People are having to choose rent over decent healthy foods. Single Moms are thinning milk with water to make it go farther. It’s very sad.
If I want good, thick cut bacon a pack can cost $17 here in Ontario Canada. We have two slices each., so at least it lasts a while.Cheaper packages is mostly fat and cut so thin it breaks pulling it apart. Cauliflower can be $7, butter is $7 , eggs $4 dozen . Peanut butter $5-7. As we are a tourist area many are working for quite low wages and depending on tips.
@@elizabethmcleod246 I agree, I only know a few ppl that earn a professional income and they’re hurting too. Likely from astronomical student loans and crippling rent/house prices. A low wage earner must pay 1500 for a 1 bed dump where I am (BC) no wonder Canadians are leaving in droves, or buying rv’s to live in
SO nice to go along with you shopping! I love to see all the different brands than we have here! I shop at Walmart, so this was fun! Be safe!
I remember being enamored with the selection of groceries at supermarkets in the USA (Safeway and Kroger) and Australia (Woolies, Coles). Though travelling abroad is no longer feasible, you've made my day once again with this video.
Lovely video! We go to Waitrose for special occasions! My husband and I discovered Neck Oil this summer. We love it as there is this taste of lemon when you swollow it. My mum and I love tea cakes that you bought for your mothers. I hope they would be delighted. The biscuits are always fresh and soft and yummy. Thank you for taking us to your shopping expedition! It was fun!😊
My family lived in Germany for almost 3 years in the the early 90s and I loved shopping the products we could not get here in the U.S. The packaging was so unique! This video (though in England) brought back delightful memories. One of the items you mentioned on this shopping trip was the hot chocolate you love. Could you give the name as the video did not show a clear view of it on the close-up and I failed to understand what it was called. Thanks so much. By the way, we loved our time in Germany; such a beautiful country.
Hi Betsy. It is a British brand with a French name - Charbonnel et Walker. Their chocolates are delicious too. 😋
Safe Travels .🙋♀️
I like the store very much. It is so awesome and clean. All the carts were clean and ready to go. I think that it is important to keep things up. I like shopping with you both, I am trying not to buy premade food, it's difficult to do but I learned that cooking fresh is best, unless it is a treat. Thanks so much for taking me shopping with you both. Have a wonderful day.
Ooh I have missed shopping in Waitrose as a treat. Just need to get over my fear of flying to come back home to visit!!
I'm a specialty food store lover so this was so much joy to watch you make your way through the delicious and pricey items. I don't have a gluten issue but I'm diabetic, so I have to be careful about my choices, too. You shop well together. Have fun getting ready for your trip to Germany!
lovely trip and thank you for sharing----not a fan of processed myself but there are a lot of different families and working life demands, these are not always lazy choices----family units where all the adult(s) work, amount of food and not wanting to waste, young children with one adult is both caregiver and income-earner: time is sometimes a luxury that not everyone has.
I’ve been to England only once, but it’s on my bucket list to live there!! I love shopping with you🌷
The variety of items in that store were incredible!! Your parents will love the goodies you will be bringing with you on your visit but most of all they will love seeing you all again! Happy Travels!!
Watching you in Georgia in America 🇺🇸 🙋🏻♂ Love your channel and content you create , we have “ High end” grocery stores here very similar to that wonderful one you shopped at today, I’m jealous we have that Non _ dairy 🥛 yogurt hear too but a large one like that you got Is around $6 🤨 hope you have a wonderful trip to Germany 🇩🇪 soon , regards Todd
Kirsten, let me preface my comment by saying I love your podcasts and look forward to each and every one. That being said, I'd like to take issue with your comment that people who buy prepared meals are lazy (I had to laugh because Joerg decided he wanted those pies) I raised three children, worked a full time job and got up at 5:00 am every morning for many, many years. Mornings were getting myself ready and getting kids ready for either school or daycare. After work it was homework, bath time and listening to my kids tell me about their day. During the week dinner was often take-out (I'm in the US, in the UK they call it Take Away) or prepared meals. After the kids were in bed, it was cleaning up, doing laundry and spending some time with my husband. He also helped with these chores and with the kids. He is the best man on the planet!! We were lucky to get to bed before 11:00 PM. This isn't a complaint. I enjoyed every day of my very busy life. Was I lazy? Not at all. I hope you don't take offense at my comment, it isn't meant to insult you, I would never want to do that, but rather to point out that there are times when prepared meals come in very, very handy. We're both retired now, no more getting up at 5:00 AM. Just one more thing, it seems to be easier for you to find gluten free products in the UK than it has been in the US. My middle daughter (who is a chef!) has celiac disease. Some supermarkets in the US have started carrying gluten free products, but judging from what you can get in the UK, we still have a long way to go. Thanks again for such lovely podcasts, I look forward to your next adventure.
❤️
With kids, we're always putting someone else first. They're not in that situation and don't know what that lived experience is.
Good time!!!
Love the supermarket vids ❤
Have a nice time, with your family in Germany! Enjoy life as much as you can! Love from Holland!
Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for taking us along to visit the “super market in the sky”. What a wonderful shopping trip. Such good selections. I am a celiac so it was fun to see all the gluten free products for sale in the UK. You two are just the cutest, most fun couple. Love your channel❣️
I love finding nice products and appreciate so much to find them in nice packaging. I think the packaging really completes the product.
Kirsten & Joerg am vazut cateva filmulete si va felicit pentru ce faceti!
So cool to see such products that we don't have here in the US. Looking forward to seeing your videos in Germany. Would love to see some of your family trying some of the items you bought, but understand if they don't want to be on video...
