  • Start your day right with bird photography!
Great quality bird photography is often only found in nature. This video will show you how I captured some images of fantastic birds at the Slimbridge wetland centre.
There are four things to consider when photographing birds, including finding the best time and location for photography, picking a lens that's appropriate for your camera, choosing a focal range, and taking the correct set-up (camera settings).
That's why I'm using the Fuji X-T3 with the XF 100-400mm lens and the settings from this video: • What Are The Best Wild...

Good to meet you sheltering from the rain. I’ve got some shots of those goslings too. They were great subjects.

They were fantastic... They basically posed for us 😂 It was lovely meeting you as well. How did the rest of your day go?

Nice photos Steve, good job! A shooting range for photographers sounds like a fun idea! As a Fuji XF100-400 user myself I wouldn't ever call the 1.4TC soft. I use it for taking pictures of smaller animals/birds up close and I find it to be bitingly sharp. If you have good light and technique then I personally think the 1.4TC is more than capable. Of course when the light drops off I would rather take it off in most situations.

I think light is the major contributing factor... Although there was plenty that day, it had gone off a little by the time we reached the hides.
And, of course, it may just be my version of the TC. That can happen.

Ah the great British summer eh? The Gosling in the puddle with water drops is a great image 14:39. The idea of some sort of bird shooting range where you could practice technique would be awesome too!

Hi Steve I've had the Fuji 70-300mm for a couple of weeks now after having it on pre-order for 2 months!! I think it's an amazing lens. Very fast focusing and very sharp throughout the range even wide open. I don't feel it's good enough for fast moving subjects. After reading mixed reviews on the 100-400mm I decided to get the Nikon D500 and 200-500mm lens for my Nature images. That is a fantastic set up and my go-to Nature or fast moving sports choice

You won’t go far wrong with the D500. It’s an awesome camera. I’ve been very happy with the 100-400 but everyone is going to be slightly different.
I’m definitely interested in trying the 70-300 for wildlife to see what it can and can’t handle but that 100-400mm was the best option for me.
