When you think about it, it’s actually kind of sad yet relatable when you see these structures all demolished and different in Breath Of The Wild, it actually ties into a real feeling of nostalgia. Picture this: you were a seven-year old playing Ocarina of time, (or any other game before this one) you enjoyed the hell out of it, you wanted to beat all of the dungeons, find all of the secrets, get all of the emblems, and suddenly you stopped playing it for a long while, and then Breath Of The Wild comes out, you’re excited to play this entirely new Zelda game, and you come back to all of these locations, you’re feeling like “oh my god, how long was I gone?” It really makes you feel old and out of place.
I don't think you can relate "not playing a game for several years" to "centuries passing and ancient buildings decaying over time," so I wouldn't necessarily be saying "How long was I gone!?" like Spongebob in that one episode... but I at least understand the general meaning of your comment.

I recently got this game and I spent most of my first hours playing it exploring the world. I was enjoying it until I came to the ranch ruins...broke my heart. I took my horse around the track a few times before I left :(
Memories of when u raced that cheating Luigi wannabe Ingo who treats his, horses... Donkey's... Mule's, MULE'S, like dogs that took the steak off your plate. Poor horses... Mule's. And u ridin it with Epona for extra nostalgia reasons too? I'm sure I will when I get the amiibo
yeah it hurts so much, what happened to the land of hyrule hurts oh so very much i hope in botw 2 we get hyrule reunited and not destroyed in ruins like a new castle and town and all the good old locations not in ruins because it truly breaks my heart seeing what was once a peaceful land with a bit of evil that has not ruined the land yet turned into a land with evil almost everywhere and where almost all of the locations we remember being destroyed
BOTW´s story is so sad. Link´s best friends and comrades are dead and gone now. His childhood friend who always had a crush on him is dead and gone now (poor Mipha). The biggest city which was filled with happy and diverse people is destroyed and empty now. Basically 80 percent of the regions population is dead and gone now. Now we know WHAT happens if we fail once in destroying the evil which threatens the world in the Zelda games.
Dw they will rebuild now Ganon is finally dead so it is bittersweet ending at the end sadly tho it will be Zelda and link next generation that would completely rebuild hyrule as it is impossible the current heroes to do so as like people said 80 percent of population is now gone
Isn’t it weird how in 10 years, new kids will find interest in these games. Kids that might not even exist now. We’ll have grown up and this music will give us so much nostalgia :(
I'm a kid and I really love all these classic games (for example legend of Zelda ocarina of time, sonic the hedgehog 2 super Mario 64 etc etc) seeing the ruins of Lon Lon ranch and all the other mad me sad
nothing has sadden me more that when i came across the Ranch Ruins for the first time. the place when Link first meets and befriends Epona. now gone....
Well if you were to wake up after a century to see the world you knew completely changed and a majority of the people you knew are dead, along with the feeling of being out of pkace as you are from a different time period, I would imagine Link would feel somewhat depressed. But he can't let it show because of his mission and because of Zelda, who has lost just as much as he has, and must be strong for her as they make their way in a new world. Goddesses bless Link.

But I think epona should be an in game item,I bought the amiibo for her of course but it's a rare amiibo and was really hard for me to get so I'm sure a lot of people weren't able to get it
Lon Lon ranch made me tear up a bit and the music, its just crazy how well these games were created. I just remember traveling and just playing ocarina of time in the car and trying to figure out the game. this game will be remembered forever
Tbh it’s kinda of amazing that the ranch is still in that good condition. Think about it, the time between Each link cycle is so long that it becomes legend and forgotten by all but the most historical people. So that means it must at very least be thousands of years between each game. Botw is the latest game in the timeline because it references Twilight Princess which was previously the latest in the time line. So it’s potentially been 10s if not 100s of thousands of years since Ocarina of Time, and there’s still bits of the fence left lol.
Zora's Domain is SO beautiful in BOTW! I will never forget the first time I saw it, after that rainy mountain trek seemed to take forever, and I finally came upon it....wow, just gorgeous.
Red88Rex here's a fun fact about me. I was on my way up (quite early in the game) and I came across the massive group of lizals with bows. I thought "wow, I'll come back later with better weapons" I went around them and kept going up until I fought the boss on the bridge. Me being the degenerate I am, after beating the boss went BACK THE WAY I CAME without even noticing. I took out the entire lizal pack with ease, didn't even notice they were the same dudes. I didn't realize I was going backwards until I saw the bridge that you first meet the prince at :(
I know it’s just a game but since I’ve first started playing I just love going to the villages and seeing civilisation because I wanna feel what hyrule once felt before ganon. I love how a story is told throughout all games.
TP tried too hard to make the world and atmosphere dark. While having cartoonish and funny characters. Like links father...He looks scary. Breath of the wild has a balance between twilight princess’s medieval atmosphere and Wind wakers shading and cartoonist
While playing BoTW I felt like I was playing a character inside a painting. It's the most gorgeous game I ever played. But the truth is, Nintendo focused, I would say, 80% in exploration in this game. So, it lacks in story, it lacks in diversity of enemies (cmon, a Zelda game without spiders?), it lacks in CAVES. Exactly. CAVES. Everytime we entered a shrine we knew beforehand what was going to happen, what type of enemies we would face inside. In OoT and other Zelda games, when we entered a cave we were completely scary because some random thing like a fucking ghost or a fucking REDEAD would jump and scary the shit out of you. I never had this feeling playing BoTW. And, finally, it lacks in NPCs. Yes, we had 76 sidequests. Some I can remember because they were great and funny. But at least 50 of those 76 were generic to me. A lot of NPCs in BoTW are generic. I coudn't empathize with them. WHERE WERE THEY WHEN THE GAME ENDED? COMPARE THE FUCKING ENDINGS WITH BOTH BOTW AND OOT. The ending of OoT is MAGICAL. YOU SEE EVERYONE THAT YOU HELPED DURING YOUR QUEST. In BoTW it just ended. You guys know what I mean?
Plank I know exactly what you mean. I love BOTW for its beauty and gameplay, but the story is so lacking. Link doesnt make connections like he does in other games. And I miss the elaborate water, fire and forest temples.
I actually think botw might be the top dog in terms of story. Did you know that Zelda was in love with link? And the only reason she was able to save him was because his sacrifice for her brought out her abilities so that she could save him? I’ve put 200 hours into botw and I didn’t even know that. I watched a RUclips video on it. That just goes to show you that there’s sooooo much story that it’s almost impossible to get all of it. It’s up to the player to get all of the story, or none of it considering you can just go straight to ganon
If botw had a few extra dungeons and the divine beasts weren’t the exact same, it would’ve been the perfect game. Also I think they should have cut the amount of shrines in half or something and added heart pieces
@Matteo Leonardi it's a story. And it's a story that everyone knows if they play through the game (like I'm sure all of us here have, so thanks but no thanks for reiterating the story). It just lacks substance. Don't get so defensive over a game though, we're all only expressing our opinions.
Crisp Zachary i agree that they should have cut the shrine count and have added real dungeons too. they could have even been optional dungeons with certain items like say a "forgotten heros garb" or the mirror shield and make them near indestructible. could have done 3 optional dungeons for a bow, shield and cloths to have at least one of each item that doesnt break so easily (even though theres the hylian shield in hyrule castle i would still like the mirror shield lol) and have either a heart container or maybe just 4 spirit orbs. i would have done a full dungeon for something like that and im sure other people would too as long as they were decent dungeons and the rewards were good
Actually I think the Lost Woods bears more resemblance to the woods from Majora's Mask than to the woods from Ocarina of Time, due to the huge trees, the overwhelming fog, and the fact that it seems easier to venture through by horse- Just a thought :D
@@meee_5155 It’s totally the same Sacred Grove, though. The Master Sword and Temple of Time show up whenever evil needs to be banished and hero worthy of the blade is present. Something along those lines. Lol

The game will end with link destroying the stones the end thank me in 7 yrs, specificly Oct release date Zelda Orcorina Of Time's
God I love this game, but seeing what's become of Hyrule gives me such melancholy feelings. Like I can't even explain it, but I just want to cry. I haven't even FINISHED the game but the memories I've uncovered and the depth of Hyrule is insane at this point. I went to the Central Hyrule tower and looked down at the castle and Castle town and like I didn't know what to think. It was all just so... heartbreaking to see it like that. I can't even take the time to go through it because of those damned Guardian things sharpshooting me from like 50ft away! I'll eventually find a way. But bloody hell does this whole thing upset me. All that aside, I don't know how Nintendo thinks they're gonna top this game.
@@EightBallG661 just because it's a game doesn't mean you aren't allowed to get emotional lol there's loads of fiction that made me mega emotional because of the story and environment, botw being one of em
I'm playing the game the 3rd time now and I thought I had recognised every place but I needed this to notice that the giant Goddess statue is the same one from Skyward Sword. This is brilliant. Nicely done comparing the scenes side by side.
I'm almost crying from nostalgia. I grew up on OoT and Majora's Mask and seeing ruins from OoT like lon lon ranch hurts. It sucks to think that some people haven't played them and can't because they're so old and don't have has many complex features, but I'm glad I got to experience them.
It would've been nice seeing Kass in Lon Lon Ranch playing Epona's Song and telling you something about it like "Legend says the hero who's gone through time met his trusty steed in these ruins"
He does! In one of the stables when you chat to him he says something like: "This is the song that the hero of legend used to call his steed", would've been nicer to have him play there, but also infinitely more dangerous with it being central hyrule c:
@lillyz "In case you were wondering about the song I perform at the stables, there are many theories about its origin. But according to my teacher, it was a song performed by the ancient hero to call to his horse companion." :D He says it at Foothill stable, by the Eldin canyon. c:
You forget that twilight princess had TWO Kakariko villages. The main one where all the villagers live, and the old, abandoned one that is the rebuilt remains of the one from OOT.
This is a weird habit of mine, but whenever I've gathered four orbs to level up with, I always go to the Temple of Time. I've literally never used any other Goddess Statues. It's a weird thing, I know. Just gives me this nostalgic feeling, y'know?
For some reason, when going to fight Ganon I thought "There's no way I can just walk through the front door". And I love that you can do exactly that. Also you're voice isn't as bad as some people I've watched on here. You at least sound human.
It’s funny how Breath of the Wild got rid of that “Disney Land” storytelling that Egorapter was complaining about but instead replaced it with a history museum.
I really love this video. As the years go by, I always find myself coming back to this video as it really hits me in the feels each time. It's crazy to believe that each Link that is born is bound by the same name and destiny but is yet so different from each other. As I am a player that likes to immerse myself in these games knowing it's deeper story, it makes me feel somewhat depressed knowing that each Link is born thousands of years part completely forgetting all of his past accomplishments. As the players, we should constantly feel out of place and sad as we recognize all these places that we once loved being destroyed and forgotten. It gives us a feeling as if we the players are immortal, and we see how much our land has changed throughout the passage of time. All these legendary characters like Ruto, Darunia, Saria and all the sages that we grew up playing with, are now long dead and barely remembered in Hyrule anymore. It really makes us feel like we should have also been "dead" along with them because all these new characters are nothing but just their descendants who are now living in a generation of their own with their own paths/destinies ahead of them. It's such a sad tale when you think about it as a whole but that's what makes it so good. Part of me wishes that there is a future Zelda game in which Link somehow retains the memories of some of his former incarnations and journey's through time to each of these Link's time periods as he fights an incarnation of Ganon that can time travel. This would essentially kind of make a second Hero of time but, this could bring so much nostalgia as we could potentially revisit time periods of Hyrule in which some of our beloved characters and areas are still doing well. I know I would personally love it if Nintendo made a Zelda game in which we explore the past of previous Links. ----- Also, on the topic of future Zelda games, I kind of want a Zelda game that dates back even further in time possibly even before Skyward Sword. This Zelda game could potentially explain who Fierce Deity is and why is he regarded as a creature more evil than Majora. We know Fierce Deity's mask resembles Link, so this mask already has a story to it that we still don't know about. I find it even more interesting as this Link could be a Link that has already achieved power and has gone through his "adventure" but has now lived long enough to become a "villain".
Alucard8319 I wouldn't even call the 3DS version a remake. It seems to me it's more of a remaster/touch up. And besides, I want a remake for the game on console. I hate when games are handheld exclusives.
I think Link was left handed until Skyward Sword or Twilight Princess, that was to adjust it to the Wii controllers they made him right handed... and then I think they just passed it like that to Botw... :( I still wish he were left handed tho
To be honest I like details like that- it makes you realize that each link is different though they're technically the same person by reincarnation (or something).
With Goron city, it could be fair to say that the reason the Goron moved outside is because there is now a massive mechanical lizard wakling around on the outside and it probably caused a few bolders to fall on the city. And likewise with the Zora kingdom but with an elephant.
I’m just now realizing the major graphics difference. Ocarina of Time was my first ever Zelda game and I LOVED IT. Currently loving BOTW! I covered half of the screen so I wouldn’t get spoiled lol
You know how when you try to call your horse, and it's too far away you get the " could not hear your call"? I called my horse Epona, keep this in mind. Well, I went to the ranch ruins, and I got chills as I looked around the place, and after a moment of standing around feeling nostalgic I pressed the call horse button, thinking maybe it'd trigger some special events and I get the message "Epona could not hear your call", I just about cried! It was the saddest shit ever. D:
Thank goodness that the hero in BotW is Not the same character as the older ones. Could you imagine if you were literally the same Link from Ocarina of Time? I'd be walking through Lon Lon Ruins.....literally in tears.....it would be so heartbreaking. Or Twilight Princess's link who would stare at the ruins of the twilight mirror grounds, and lamenting never seeing her again. It would just be heart breaking, but somewhat beautiful at the same time.
Actually hardly any of the Link's are the same Link *spoilers below* Ocarina of Time Link and Majora's mask are the same person however the person who teaches link the in Twilight Princess is actually OoT Link When the timeline split in OoT with the future he left after defeating Ganon there was no Hero in the future timeline but Wind Waker happened after Hyrule was flooded but he's a completely different Kid
This video made me seriously miss the good old days of OoT. And it showed just how OoT not only massively changed the landscape of RPGs but has yet to be topped, only improved upon or had variants.
It would be cool if these places had memories if you had the certain items or clothing i.e Epona in Lon Lon Ranch or like The Hero of Time set in the temple of Time.
J-Studios like when snake goes back to shadow moses island in metal gear solid 4. walking in certain places shows cutscenes from the first game, in all its pixelated ps1 glory. would be an awesome idea.
It is a good idea but those places had to do nothing with Zelda and Link being her personal knight. It would be a cool thing if there was a sections of memories with places of Link's past but having better graphics. An idea (if Nintendo sees this) for Lon Lon Ranch it could be Malon teaching Link Epona's Song. That's all the ideas I have rn
Now I'm imagining a sequel to this where some new, far more powerful, evil shows up and the only way Link can defeat itis by connecting to his past lives and gaining their wisdom/power. So...basically Avatar, but way goddamn cooler.
Man, I'm going through some strong Nostalagia right now during that Epona ranch segment. This is my problem with every Zelda game, each one knows how to hit you in the feels (when you've played previous games) and seeing the ruins/graveyard of other Links lives. Look up Hero's Shade it's directly connected to Ocarina of Time.
There's another Easter egg on the great plateau of the castle garden from ocarina of time, the one where you find Zelda spying on Ganondorf through the window
I damn near forgot link used to be left handed. I wish they made him left handed again. I remember they changed it due to skyward sword and the Wii function, but I always thought it made link unique to be a lefty.
This is like the fourth comparison of then and now for Breath of the wild featuring Lon Lon Ranch I've watched, pretty sure all of them had the Ranch in the thumbnail as well...
***** In other words...it gets them clicks...not complaining though, it is the best comparison I've watched because it is the most appealing (with that soothing voice...lol) ...and detailed.
Tam Mckinnie News networks are the same way. All the same news just a different person. Or cell phones, all smart phones and do the same thing. The whole world is basically a re-reporting of facts practically. He's pretty sick at his work! Nothing wrong with Zelda master.
It's one of the most iconic part of Oot since that's where you found Epona and being able to travel on a horse in a video game was pretty rare at the time so it marked most of us.
Eventide Island is supposed to be Koholint Island from Link’s Awakening. It references Koholint Peak and Toronbo Shores, and the peak where the shrine is located represents the same peak Link awakened the Wind Fish at.
Idea since the island from link’s awakening is gone because spoilers It was not real in the first place it was a dream made by the wind fish and link woke it up so the island disappeared so what if eventide island was what inspired the wind fish’s dream in the first place just a thought
The Zora and Goron Races expanded upwards through the ages. Goron- Maybe the overhead cave ceiling was excavated away after countless Generations of Gorons tore the rocks away to expand Goron City. Zora- OoT was deep underground, and they were just beginning their expansions to their Domain. TP the Zora have begun using more ornate patterns and designs for their home. These are accompanied with the large, impressive and beautifully crafted columns that would be later used to support their above ground homeland. (The giant fish decoration on top of the Domain in BotW *COULD* be a long forgotten depiction of Lord Jabu Jabu)
One of the best Zelda videos of all Time. Nostalgia like crazy with the perfect zelda Songs and the comparisons. Probably watched this video 10 times since u released it
Me too. I never played twilight princess or skyward sword (one because I’m 13 now, I never heard of skyward sword and twilight princess at the time and also because I haven’t heard of twilight princess being released on the wii) so ocarina of time locations gave me a trip down memory lane. That was my first Zelda game as well as 3DS game and adventure game.
me too, I have so many memories of that game. Ocarina of time was one of the games I played together with my father when i was little, we had a lot of fun, we even draw the map of the world together, It reminds me of a time now lost where life was easier.
These stuff totally flew over my head as BotW is my first Zelda game, but i find it extremely cool how they implemented these locations, and i find basically the Zelda plot with always new heroes and characters amazing. It makes possible to create anything the devs want with the same characters in a new timeline.
No. What OP is saying is that the layout of the two forests are similar. Ocarina of Time's was a bunch of random logs and it was a maze game, and did not have the Master Sword located inside of it. However, the Lost Woods in Breath of the Wild are nearly *identical* to the Lost Woods in A Link to the Past.
What a treat it must've been to have played through every zelda game that is represented in Botw, to have all that nostalgia and sadness flooding back!

yeah it hurts so much, what happened to the land of hyrule hurts oh so very much i hope in botw 2 we get hyrule reunited and not destroyed in ruins like a new castle and town and all the good old locations not in ruins because it truly breaks my heart seeing what was once a peaceful land with a bit of evil that has not ruined the land yet turned into a land with evil almost everywhere and where almost all of the locations we remember being destroyed
Now we know WHAT happens if we fail once in destroying the evil which threatens the world in the Zelda games.
except the story SUCKS presentation wise and it's such a waste for great story
At least the goddesses didn't flood the world this time though.

There are actually lakes in the lost woods, like lake saria, or mido swamp (I think it’s called) that are names after people in Ocarina of time
Am I the only one who feels sad and who thinks that Link might be depressed after looking at the changes?
Well if you were to wake up after a century to see the world you knew completely changed and a majority of the people you knew are dead, along with the feeling of being out of pkace as you are from a different time period, I would imagine Link would feel somewhat depressed. But he can't let it show because of his mission and because of Zelda, who has lost just as much as he has, and must be strong for her as they make their way in a new world.

It could have been fixed and rebuild again and again for hundreds of generations
It's been about ten thousand years, the ranch could have been passed down through a family for most of that time until the calamity happened.
It’s May have been 50 thousand years after twilight princess
The fence even was downgraded from metal to wood
Actually more like 10,000 years

-----
Also, on the topic of future Zelda games, I kind of want a Zelda game that dates back even further in time possibly even before Skyward Sword.
Are you okay? Do you have a cold? Try some tea before filming, it may help.

@@IzzySarru
Unless he becomes god tier like prereincarnation Hylia, I don't think it would be cooler than avatar.
Sarru BRUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH TAKE MY MONEYYYYYYY
I cried while watching this...
Please tell me I wasn't the only one...
Your not.
my ears cried as well.
I loved Lon Lon Ranch. It had such a good background song. Kind of sad to see it completely destroyed :(
The Nostalgia levels are OVER 9,000!!
Man, I'm going through some strong Nostalagia right now during that Epona ranch segment.
This is my problem with every Zelda game, each one knows how to hit you in the feels (when you've played previous games) and seeing the ruins/graveyard of other Links lives.
Look up Hero's Shade it's directly connected to Ocarina of Time.
wow. what a beautiful game with all these references/inclusion of other games lands in such a great way.
I used to spend hours on Lon Lon Ranch racing, and seeing it that way broke my heart. Ouch.
@Space Toast same

@@The_Juice14 lol gotcha
I am okay with right handed link , because I am right handed too , it would be difficult for me to play with left handed link.
This is like the fourth comparison of then and now for Breath of the wild featuring Lon Lon Ranch I've watched, pretty sure all of them had the Ranch in the thumbnail as well...
Because it's the most nostalgic.
***** In other words...it gets them clicks...not complaining though, it is the best comparison I've watched because it is the most appealing (with that soothing voice...lol) ...and detailed.

News networks are the same way. All the same news just a different person. Or cell phones, all smart phones and do the same thing. The whole world is basically a re-reporting of facts practically. He's pretty sick at his work!
Nothing wrong with Zelda master.
Hyrule Dude I wasn't saying there was anything wrong with Luke, just pointing something out.
Idea since the island from link’s awakening is gone because spoilers
It was not real in the first place it was a dream made by the wind fish and link woke it up so the island disappeared so what if eventide island was what inspired the wind fish’s dream in the first place just a thought
@@kingofchaos5672 (spoilers spoilers)
I was kinda disappointed that the Wind Fish actually existed and everything hasn't just been Link's dream

Oh man BOTW is so beautiful

One of the best Zelda videos of all Time. Nostalgia like crazy with the perfect zelda Songs and the comparisons. Probably watched this video 10 times since u released it
Has anyone else noticed that Hateno looks kind of a lot like Kakariko from OoT? And is in the same general area?
Charles Tolbert I thought they were the same when I first arrived in BotW
Thats because they packed up and left at the calamity beginning.
I'm literally crying over the ocarina of time locations ruined.
Me too. especially the lon lon farm.
Metal Rblx im just in awe for them being in the game, not even suprised,it should have been like,3000 years
Lena Ma me toooooo
The content of this video is actually quite solid. But the voice… J E S U S.
白菜 he had a lack of oxygen according to him during the making of this video
@@saraskyline8331 and at birth by the sound of it
These stuff totally flew over my head as BotW is my first Zelda game, but i find it extremely cool how they implemented these locations, and i find basically the Zelda plot with always new heroes and characters amazing. It makes possible to create anything the devs want with the same characters in a new timeline.
it's NOT the lost forest from "Zelda OoT". It's the forest from "Zelda Link to the past (SNES)"
Rook LP The lost woods are in a lot of games except ss, etc
Mapleman9322 thats exactly what i meant
Even the path to the master sword was from lttp
And did you guys notice the 3 flowers in the same exact spots as Link to the Past
What a treat it must've been to have played through every zelda game that is represented in Botw, to have all that nostalgia and sadness flooding back!
There is a room in the temple of time that is the exact same as zelda's garden thingy in Ocaraina of time
Oh yeah, I found that the other day. Pretty cool addition.
Where you first meet Zelda?
@@Sawcybui yep
Seeing Lon Lon ranch in ruins geniunely made me wanna tear up. So many good memories of ocarina as a kid
