- This was such a special trip! We visited "The Hill Cumorah" and got to walk all the way to the top! The Hill Cumorah is a significant place because that is where Moroni buried the Gold plates (an ancient record of his people) in roughly 421AD. In 1823, the now "Angel Moroni" revealed to Joseph Smith the location where the ancient record was buried, and permitted him to retrieve them, so they could be translated into what today we refer to as "The Book of Mormon". We also took a tour through the family of home of Joseph Smith, the home where he was living when the angel Moroni appeared to him. Just behind his family home is the trail that leads to the "Sacred Grove".
In 1820, after sincerely pondering which of the many churches in his town he should join, a young Joseph ( only 14 years old at the time), went into the grove to pray and ask God what he should do. It was at this time, that Christ, and God the Father, two separate personages, appeared to Joseph Smith. They advised Joseph that although well intentioned, none of the churches on the Earth had a fullness of Gods gospel. They had fragments, but none of them professed the whole truth. He was instructed not to join any of the churches. Three years passed away before he would receive another holy visitation, during which time he had confided in his Baptist pastor about his vision. The Pastor scorned him and spread nasty rumor's throughout the whole town, which lead to much ridicule and persecution of Joseph and his family.

It's been years now, but I remember exactly where that Hill Cumorah Visitors Center was. I had a chance to do security on that back road. It was so peaceful. I could hear birds chirping too. The Spirit was very strong. I loved going to the Hill + Grove every summer. I have been blessed with so many beautiful memories of those places. I could talk for so long on those. I began to get a little bit of the glory that the Prophet Joseph felt. That would have stayed with him his entire life.
I miss the Temple their so much. I remember seeing Pres. Gordon B. Hinckley there. I remember that at first all I saw was the back of his head (he had a bald spot in the back). but the Spirit was so strong! It was the day of the dedication. I was a stake missionary then and for months we were trying to invite people to the Open House, and we were able to invite some. On that day though I saw people that came in wheelchairs, or halt in other ways, and it was as if they all had come hoping for a miracle in their lives. The line must have had at least a 100 in it. I could see that the Lord had invited many of these dear souls. I think many were non-members, but Jesus knew them each. It reminded me of when Jesus told his disciples to cast their nets on the other side of the ship. I think that was the 100th Temple.
I’ve been in nearly every state and seen many things and noteworthy places, but there is a feeling that comes whenever I see things of Church historical significance is different somehow. I believe the Joseph Smith story with all my heart. Was he perfect? No. Was he a divinely inspired prophet? Absolutely. Those who don’t search, who won’t work to find the truth, will not know it. (1 Corinthians 2:14).

Thank you both very much. I came from back there and miss it very much. The Temple is on the site of an old Nephite village. The defensive embankments are still there in spots but I haven't hiked the whole perimeter.
I don't think we know the exact spot but that doesn't actuslly matter as I am assuming when ppl go they will feel the area and pray where they feel like they want to
Agreed, in fact the portion of trees that we walked through I believe had been re-planted at some stage because it had previously had that section cleared of trees sometime in the past, due to farming.

Joseph Smith... is not a prophet. His prophecies clearly didn't come to pass..but who needs truth these days. I pray for all that have been lead astray by this false teaching.
