RIP Cynthia, sweet lady of funk, rock, and living a SLY dream. The beauty of her life was dreams were captured in a bottle of music with poetic real life experiences. It truly was a family affair !
I was fortunate to have listen to their rehearsals. Cynthia was always so kind and always smiling. They were my neighbors in Ingleside Terrace in San Fran. She was the most beautiful woman and person. I was a child in in '68, and they were the funky band, and little did I know that they were famous. Sly was nice and always spoke. If he heard my music now, he would probably know that I grew up listening & learning from him.
I have wonderful memories of my best friend when I was young, he lived out in Ingleside terrace in San Francisco. And his sister knew Sly Stone and where he lived. So one day (uninvited) we all walked over to his house (I'm thinking this was maybe 1969) and we walked in his front door and there was Sly in his living room just playing his electric organ. He just said hello to us and didn't even ask who we were or why we were there. Just a wonderful memory that I'll never forget!!!!!! 👍
Just learned about her passing. Very sorry, she was so talented and was the glue of the band too. So unusual to see a female horn player back in the day. Loved when Sly used to call her name. RIP.
Oh man did I have a crush on her back in my early teen years. Her, Freda Payne and the beautiful thick big legged sister in the Five Stairsteps. RIP Cynthia.
RIP .. I just got into learning about her and listening to her trumpet playing. She was an amazing person and musician. If only the world could consistantly live within the vibes Sly and the Family and Cynthia created all our troubles would melt away.
Man God must be Jamming Everyday AALL Day. Sly, Cynthia, Prince, George Duke, Marvin, James. What a Band. He’s on the Good Foot, but can’t get no Higher!! Can’t wait to get there. The Musicians back in the day did it all. Not only were They able to put meaningful words on paper, The Topics were Issues of the day, That are STILL ISSUES of TODAY. Think of Marvins What’s going on some 50 years ago and it’s Prevalent TODAY. Those were Visionaries.RIP
Wow this was a powerful woman on that trumpet. You blew us away with that beautiful afro with that powerful singing voice with that trumpet and that bold bold strong attitude! Just full of funk I don't know if you realize how revolutionary your work with Sly and the family Stone was and with Graham Central station
I grew up with The Stone . R.I.P. as a kid in the 60's The first Black musician I idolized was her. not Jimi Hendrix .saw them on every T.V. station in the 60,s Regularly. Her and Larry I noticed first . Very Talented and fun to watch
Wow has it really been 4 years Amazing time is flying Never saw this but me and her had long talks about all her Video appearences especially the one I had something to do with on unsung thanks for posting
@@raymondsemper5161 thanks for replying I have interviewed all the family but this particular interview was done by Michael Rubenstone from his movie On ther SLY
Though she didn't "answer" the question she did suggest an obvious attribute of SLY: he was a hyper literate songwriter. EVERYDAY PEOPLE, the single that established the Band in the marketplace, is an incredible hymnal. I suggest always you don't know the fuss about the band unless you saw the band LIVE. The WOODSTOCK performance established the band in American musicology, but I or you could had picked even so so musicians, practiced once a week, and drawn sincere applause performing FAMILY AFFAIR, SING A SIMPLE SONG, IF YOU WANT ME TO STAY, YOU CAN MAKE IT IF YOU TRY because each is an excellent rendering of human aspiration and condition. There are obviously other songs that merit mention: UNDERDOG, THANKYOU..., STAND, RUNNIN AWAY (Cynthia and Jerry play profoundly on the cut), SOMEBODY'S WATCHING YOU. SLY is one of the greatest songwriters in the history of popular music among English-speaking people.
Too! A real funkster..and dynmite horn stress" I can still Hear your voice shouting in sly's song"s you were two" Vital parts of the family..you were of the stitch of the funk Brass section who..never missed a Note..and you was.. A lady...may you blow!... Those angels...into Your groove...lady!
Why just two minutes of this? ... I've been waiting to see this film for years ... At the risk of sounding smarmy this film should be called "On the Sly: The Search for this Film" ... I apologize but as a fan of Sly & Family Stone I'm tired of waiting ... I hope my frustration is understood & considered.
