I've seen lots of higher hcp recreational golfers waste money to get fit. They end up paying $800 with upgraded shaft & still can't hit worth a damn. Everyone always says "go get fit". Getting fit is not a cure all.
I think you have to be able to drive the ball consistently in order to get the most out of a fitting. If you hit the ball all over the face then I would recommend some lessons to learn a more repeatable swing then go get fit.
teaching pros are loving you while the industry is hating you right now...
Great video, thanks for putting it out there for us. I got fitted in February, tried all those and a few more. The Srixon ZX7 was the best for me and my swing. The fitting was worth every penny. I highly recommend getting fitted.
I had a fitting yesterday, and during testing, the SIM was better for me than SIM2. I chose TSI for forgiveness/distance. SIMs were definitly the longest though. Shafts definitly make a huge difference.
I could get fit for a driver every single day, and come home with a different setup every single day. Seems like too many options, like having 400 channels and picking something to watch on TV. Plus, what if you are having a good day vs bad day when getting fit? I think if you can narrow it down to swing speed and loft, that's a great start. Attack angle will change depending on your attempted shot shape. Also, feel, looks, and intuition may play a part. If you are on a limited budget like most people, it ultimately comes down to picking the best one you think works best and learning to swing that driver the best you can. Also, which NFL are you going to use? The configurations and options are almost innumerable.
Right!!! Its kinda like me on 1 of the streaming platforms. I sit down to relax an watch something good. Then an hour goes by, an all I've watched, is my watch list, go up another 200+ titles lmao. Maybe that's just me tho, lol.
It definitely isnt.
Can’t stress enough how important a fitting is. I have recently reshafted my Cobra F8 because my swing speed has increased dramatically, what a huge difference it makes to dispersion.
What were you in? What did you go to?
@@stevencarrier5060 Alida blue Reg now have a hzrdus smoke yellow stiff. Used to be about 89mph now swing at 98-106mph.
@@MegaRodneyh I use that Aldila now. The GolfTec guy put a hzrdus smoke (black if I recall) in my XR16. Don't know club speed but spin went way down and it just felt so much better swinging it. Enjoy! My plan is either that new shaft or new Mizuno depending on results after they get the Mizunos in.
@@MegaRodneyhhow did you increase your swing speed??
SIM2 and TSI3 were also my 2 favorites of 2021. Went with TSi3 because I just felt like I could hit any shot I wanted with it. Plus I love the sound and look over the SIM2 and especially that old school pear shape.
Very cool that you got specifically fitted for all of the drivers with their own shafts! Would be great to see in irons as well
What do you think he’s a millionaire?? ... well come to think of it he probably is :)
I’ve been wondering about shaft performance from club to club and I’ve always assumed the right shaft for one driver may not work best for another. It’s good to see you test this. Also I laughed for real when you were holding all 5 drivers at the same time. 😂
This has probably already been said, but MrShortGame is the Mike Iaconelli of golf videos. Fishermen will understand this reference.
Iaconelli is definitely one of my top bass fisherman. His hootin and hollerin during comps is fantastic.
Never give up!
🤣🤣🤣🤣👍
im fucking dying
Yes it all matters! Just got fitted last year into the sim max 9 deg with my Fuji atmos tour blue . First time being fitted and it made a huge difference in every category
You should’ve brought in the Mizuno ST as well. I’ve heard that performs just as well at the lowest cost
I use the cobra speedback from 2019, very solid driver.
4 hdcp, just got fit for the first time after spending a ton of money over the years on different drivers and shafts. PXG/Ping/Titleist/Taylormade all performed similar for me, but the look, sound and feel of the Sim sold me.
I currently have 7 drivers and enjoy doing head to heads and trying different shafts. G410plus with Mitsubishi Tensei CK orange is in the bag for straightest and longest. Love the sound too. Not the easiest to shape. Mavrik in last place...
I just got fitted outdoors two weeks ago. I'm not a Taylormade guy but I tried the Sim 2 and just fell in love with the performance, sound, and feel. I got a 9* with Diamana TB blue 70x. I love it. I was hitting 320 yard fades all day, center clubface strikes, and only missed one drive. I was using a range ball and know that I'll get even better numbers with my gamer ball. The Sim 2 is a beast and very stable.
What I question about the fitting is this. Is there any point is getting a fit if you are still working on your swing and not set with one swing type yet? Or basically work on swing and then eventually go for fitting..
love your videos. I highly recommend to all your followers, to go get fit for their driver. I recently had my first driver fitting and ended up buying a driver I would have never tried on my own. When you get fitted, they look at all the metrics of your swing and suggest options that fit you the best. A driver that works for your buddy might be completely wrong for you. I ended up purchasing the new Titleist TSI2. Have never found more fairways!!!
Great video. I think a few other clubs could have been included, i.e. Mizuno, Wilson Staff, PXG, Cleveland Launcher, & Callaway Maverick. Thanks for the review
Maverick is a 2020 model. This was 2021 gear bruh smh
I got fitted at Club Champion a year ago with a Sim Max. After a full season the ShotScope stats say distance unchanged from the previous season with fewer fairways hit. I could have fit myself and saved a bunch of bucks.
Absolutely. We are in the era of marginal gains at most. I won’t change my M6 until I lose swingspeed
One of the better RUclips golf channels... solid, straightforward advice. Thanks, Champ!
Great review, thanks. Getting fit is a no brainer 👍
I game the TSi3 for overall forgiveness & tight dispersion but will try SIM2 & G425 once we get out of lockdown in UK - 10 days! 🏌️♂️👍
Love my Ping G400 but ready for some new blood. Being a lefty testing clubs is hard as most shops and demo days carry very little lefty clubs. Reviews like this help me out alot.
Being a lefty golfer, other than a tour player, severely limits your choices. Try being a lefty senior player. While I understand the reason, it doesn't make being a lefty any easier. I went to Dick's years ago for a glove, & there wasn't ONE lefty glove. I couldn't believe it. In drivers, they MIGHT have 1 or maybe 2, but not likely, of each brand, but they're nearly always stiff shafts which makes no sense to me. How many weekend players actually need stiff shafts? All that does is further limit choices for lefties. Even if you go to a demo day, choices for lefties are limited in many cases.
All great clubs. I would have chose the Epic Max LS for your test since you were testing the 'low spin' heads. You are correct that people need to do their own testing and fittings. It really is different for each individual.
I bought an old RBZ driver off ebay. I learned to swing better and starting hitting some of the best drives of life. 240 average. I later found out it had a 45 gram stock shaft. This for ME made all the difference in the world. My swing speed is 90-100. I use regular flex. My swing was now pretty consistent and i wanted to try the newest technology so I had a driver fitting and came home with a Callaway Mavrik with the 50gram evenflow shaft. I now average 260 yards with the same swing and effort. Wow! TECHNOLOGY!
the amount of detail and explanation provided is very underrated!
Thank you for this wonderful review. Helped me in selecting the best new driver for myself. I appreciate the effort you put in to your videos!
Any drivers could be the best if combo with the right shaft that suits the swing.
Whatever's best for the individual; but I'm assuming that by now, that's become common knowledge & sense.
I did this with every iron that suited me for my handicap at Club Champion. Ended up with Ben Hogan PTX Pros with the Nippon Modus Tour 105s, all blacked out. Crushed the other major brands. I'd much rather get a tailored fit instead of off the rack or guessing specs online with dtc. Well worth the money.
I got fit in January at club champion for the Sim2 Max in a Ventus Blue 5S. I did the custom color and blacked it all out, been waiting 2 months now 😭 I saw the same results, highest speed of anything tested and had a tighter dispersion than the Ping G425. Can’t wait to get it in my hands
I have the same setup. Im hitting drives 300 yards for the first time in my life. Had a G410 with Tensei CK Blue and could barely hit it 280
Shafts and fittings make a huge difference!!! Bought a speed zone new and couldn’t hit the center to save my life... went to the cobra demo day and fitted from the cobra team! 45 minutes and 3 shafts later they had me dialed in !
Hopefully we'll get to see you test the newest PXG's 0211 2021 and 0811 4th Gen. drivers, I believe both will be a real challenge to the SIM 2. Great information you always provide. Best, Hugo.
Came here to ask if he'd ever tested PXG. I have a fitting on the 29th.
Love the video, but everything is so analytical these days. I'm 58....6'1" and have played with 1" over standard irons for 20+ yrs. Started playing at 9 yrs old in 1972. Father worked as a public golf course pro for many years. I can hold a driver in hand and swing it without hitting a golfball to know it will work for me. The Sim2 Max driver was what I wanted, but not for $500. I chose well. 6 weeks ago(May..2021) I bought the Cobra Speedzone direct from Cobra for $299 and Im loving it. Ball jumps off the face and the feel is great!! I havent changed driver since 2005. Mizuno T-zoid forged titanium still goes 320 yrds max and I still enjoy the sound and feel of titanium. I have popped this Cobra 335 yrds. Not bad for a 58 yr old man...😁
That's pretty cool that you are fortunate enough to get these clubs and make these videos for everyone to watch👍 thanks man we appreciate it!!
Now you have to do the same test for all the other brands (Mizuno, Wilson, Tours Edge, Bridgestone, etc… 😁
That’s for all us frugal guys. 🥸😂😂
not to forget the new PXG
frugal adjective
sparing or economical with regard to money or food.
PXG noun 😆
everything the furthest, remote opposite of the universe from frugal.
Frugal guys , we are unwashed masses.
@@MrPostman900 True in general, but fyi, the new PXG 0211 driver is one of the cheapest drivers on the market ($289 new on PXG website).
@@fb_777 love my new PXG Proto 0811X+
The SIM2 with a Fuji Ventus is a ball speed monster (For everyone). Good combo.
Not in my case, no shaft with SIM2 would help me at all (5 hdcp) but the Mitsubishi Diamana TB series 50S + Epic Max. I guess each golfer is different, can't wait to use my new weapon on the course.
Just switched to the Ventus Blue 6S. Unreal how it changed my drive!
Missing the PXG here. It's flying under the radar and it's pretty great.
$1000 golf club as well🤣
It’s flying over my wallet
I hit a PXG & it felt like hitting hard plastic. No thanks. Glad it works for you tho, & that's all that matters. Whatever works for you.
To answer all of those questions, just watch Tour Experience Golf videos with Ian Fraser. Good content here as well. But for any fitting questions, Ian at TXG is an amazing resource.
Well said Rich, TXG are the ultimate 👍
I just got fit for irons recently and it was wild to see the performance difference with different shafts on those. I'm looking forward to getting a driver fitting also in the next month or couple of months.
Mr. Shortgame, did you take dispersion into account? All those yardages are close, so the dispersion patterns might make a huge difference in choice. I would be interested in seeing what you came up with.
This is the answers we are looking for!!! Great video although I just bought the Ping 425. Did I make a mistake!! I didn’t see where you talked about dispersion which is critical for me.
Your a lucky man to get clubs like that & you deserve it .... I wish I could just get one lol ...not easy being disabled & raising 3 teenager by myself with no help ....it really limits me on getting anything as expected ...the kids come first !! There clubs are better than mine , and that's fine , but it would be awesome to get a new driver ...even one that's 5 seasons old ...I wonder how much it effect my game as a scratch player that my driver is 15 years old ...my 3 & 5 are 20 years old ...lol ..they still work ...but how much am I losing out due to it .I haven't had sugar in 8 years with my new diet & I would eat a Klondike bar for that Callaway club !! Lol ...thank you for all the hard work !! You have really helped me teaching my 3 kids the game , and breaking everything down for them ...for that I wanted to thank you ...sometimes it is not easy taking Dad's advice , so I just whip out your videos and blow their phones up with it lol ...its funny ..but really works !! Thank you for that !!
Great video Matt! Just got fitted for my Sim 2 Max D driver and had to get it specially made. Love the look of it! Taylormade FTW!
Can you do a video on carry distances in weather and what drop off to expect when playing? I have a 111-115 driver club head speed (one is smooth, one is absolutely laying into it) and on a sim I carry between 260 and 290. However, I live in the PNW and recently played on what I felt was a hot day (65°). I smashed a shot towards a bunker with a max distance of 251 out and just caught the lip, when I thought I’d easily carry it as it was a solid connection and I laid into it. I have no idea what to expect or how to account for it in colder weather and could use some guidelines.
Distance seemed pretty standard so more importantly, which one had the tightest dispersion?
Exactly, its not all about distance expecially because of the rolling distance which is longer because the spin was less. I actually don't want a massive roll, it just means it probably will go further into the woods. Doh
It's all in the person that's hitting it not the drivers.
Tightest dispersion depends on quality of consistent strike which is why golf equipment, while helpful from human testing, should be done by AI like Iron Byron for the most accurate results. Exact same swing speed & quality of strike. I'm willing to bet that if done by machine, the differences would be minimal, other than price.
There was a 20 yd difference between the heads. That's a two club difference going into the green, 7 iron vs 5 iron. That's huge.
I’ll stick with my Ben Hogan BB C-S3…2003, thx!
Great stuff Mattie
Guy
After purchasing a Sim two driver the manager picked my shaft saying any problems he would sort the settings out,I went for a light weight shaft and 10.5 standard loft. My first round the club is Fantastic and worth every penny I paid.my age is seventy eight and I managed 240 yards twice
I got fitted at club championship and I tested all of the drivers you have and I came out of there with the Ping G425 max with the True temper project x HZRDUS Smoke yellow SB 60g x-stiff and 12 degree head set to -1/flat
I think the TSI4 would have had the spin down a little more compared to the TSI 3 and might have pushed a little more distance but, good content! Hoping to see more course vlogs. Maybe talking through some course management too. Probably the largest problem with golf. Not having a good day hitting driver, put it away. Why hit a driver on a 325 yard par 4, hit an iron 150-200 yards. Good stuff, keep it coming!
Great vid, yes 2100 and Calloway 2200 spin rates would be my 1 and 2 especially in windy Texas!! Hit ‘‘em straight-
Well I think I comes down to about cloud speed when you are talking about the shafts
Awesome video, thanks a bunch for sharing your experience with these 2021 drivers. It does help a lot.
“Merry Christmas” 🤣
I wanna see dispersion Matt!!!! Com’on Man!
Great content! Would you consider in the future making a similar video for Driver for Juniors what be the most forgiving, price point. Distance, what degree setting 10°/ 12°,etc. My son is in USKidsGolf - LA tour. I am trying to figure what would be good fit
Great video and info. It appears like all the spin numbers on the simulator were estimates? What launch monitor do you use?
The Walmart callaway headcover hahaha I love it. I have one in my Callaway Hybrid.
Always wanted to get fitted but don’t hit a ball consistently enough to do that yet. But club champions is who I wanted to go with to try. Is their fitting really as in depth and as good as they say? I know they aren’t cheap for a fitting. It would be cool if you did a video showing a total fitting from inside the shop and recorded what they say and how they go through the fittibg
Not happy with Club Champion, fitted but clubs never came I called to follow up, difficult process going through “corporate”. Lots of excuses, after entire season came and went I canceled prefer. Consider other fitters.
I have the g410 with Tensai Orange shaft which is counterbalanced. You can feel the weight under the hands. Guess it enables the heavier Ping head to work. I have the 12* head turned down to 10.5. Opens the face which helps take the left side out a little more.
Those Ventus shafts are the real deal, I went from the Epic Sub Zero with a stock shaft to the Sim with a Ventus blue 6x and gained 4mph.
I have a PXG 0311X head with an Accra shaft. I can't hit it to save my life. My neighbor has a Titleist 917D2 head with Fujikura Speeder Pro 74 shaft, I can hit his driver straight every time. I just acquired the same Fujikura shaft for my PXG for a case of beer. I am hoping I can hit it as well as the Titleist. If not, I am going to be in the market for a new driver head to go with the Fujikura Speeder Pro 74 shaft. Golf is such a frustrating game.
I got fit a few days ago. Was dead set on getting the Sim2 but after trying all of those 5 also I walked away with the Tsi 3. Performed the best for me.
I've always been a PING guy since it was the first brand I ever got fitted for (Ping G10s)..... I've been curious about shafts since I've never been fitted for a shaft before aside from the shaft flex/length
Recently went and tried some new drivers. Sim 2 seemed to be all over the place. I prefer the G410 over the G425. Rad speed and TSi2 were by far my favorite. Going to have a tough choice. Great video thank you 🙏
Your missing the Mizuno STZ man! (Or STX)
THIS video only proves the point that the right driver is suited to the individual, & not brand. If you're a weekend warrior, there probably won't be much of a difference between them other than proper length & flex for your swing. The majority of drivers these days are loft adjustable which is also different for different players depending on ability.
When the stimmy hits lol
I lucked out and the SIM2 and Oban Devotion shaft was the best combo for me. Went for a custom head to really lean into the blue and gold can't wait for it to show up
You got it yet?
Thank you. So thorough!! Excellent vid Matt!
Your swing is outrageously good!!
I have been in an AD IZ 6S since 2015. I have the 7S in 4 wood and 85S in both hybrids. It has been great in every driver I've had. Got a Ten Raw Blue 65S in the TSi3 and it's great which led me to try the Orange in my G425 7W and WOW.
Really enjoy your golf channel and I try to apply your tips. I've been a box set guy because I really don't have time to practice but enjoy my weekend round of golf (ie once or twice a month). Should I bother getting fit because I would really like to hit my driver better than my current 200 yards.
A few of those driver shafts are stock or stock offerings. The Callaway for instance has the Hzrdus Smoke iM10 stock off-the-rack in 2 of 3 of their Epic heads. No upcharge. Nice vid!
Fittings make all the difference! I got fitted for my ping G410 and I have the ventus 6s shaft and it added a good amount of carry distance. If you can afford it, it's absolutely worth it.
You should review the 3 woods. For distance as well I've noticed most are different sizes. The taylormade sim 2 max d is 195 cc and most are 175 to 190.
What a test! I wish more reviews would be this fair 👌
Fair, but not necessarily accurate due to human variables in swing speed & quality of strike. AI should be used for equipment testing.
I love my old Titleist 910D2, should I make a switch to the TSi2 or other brands?
After having a taylormade r11 for like 10yrs. Today i bought the taylorMade SIM 2 MAX D Driver so I guess im good for now.
Excellent video. By far the most comprehensive comparisons of drivers. Thank you for showing that same shaft will not necessarily work well on all drivers.
Love Club Champion and I don't think you get much better for fitting. They will however fit you in a top of the line shaft ....with a very large price tag. If you want a great fitting specific to you....Club Champion. Also ...if you want a $900 driver.....Club Champion.
MR.SG, always great vids. I am going to get fitted after watching your video. Most of things you say about short game: approach, chip shots, ect. makes lots of sense. Can you do more bunker shot making and wedge selection? Thanks, also if you can do long iron swings more.
“I think I’m good for the next ten years” 😂😂
Said no Club Ho ever!
@@hunterscrackdealer6650 For sure, especially since next year a whole new version of clubs will come out again.. it never ends.
@@vroomgc admittedly I was a terrible Club Ho... but I’ve kept my clubs much longer than I used to. I kept my Nike VRS STR8 driver for like 7-8 years... (upgraded to the TM SIM 10.5*) my Tour Edge CB4 3W and CB4 19* Hybrid have been in the bag for 6 years and aren’t going anywhere...and my Adam’s CMB’s had survived for the last 8 years after playing basically a new set every year... I have upgraded to the TM P790 2019’s just this year because I need a little more distance... Miura 1957 wedges have been in the bag for about 6 years and might need a re-groove or upgrade soon and the Machine M2A Adjustable putter
@@hunterscrackdealer6650 Sounds like you do your homework which is good but yes I think stay with something that works. I was watching the Masters this weekend and one of the guys was teeing off and i noticed after he hit his drive that he had a Taylormade M1. I was like wow thats an older club. Good on him.
That rdx blue by all reports seems to be a banger shaft. I ha e a rdx black....want to try the blue.
Super loyal subscriber, disappointed Mizuno was not included.
Must’ve not made the budget lmao
Shaft is the difference, for me the Ventus Velocore in the Cobra is the best. Others gave me a few more yards but none came close on dispersion, tighter grouping means more fairways off the tee.
Hope if you can fix the camera focus when hitting to your screen. It adjusts every swing and makes us dizzy :(
Love it! I'm just excited to FINALLY play again here in England! 2 weeks to go until lockdown restrictions loosen! Let's go!
Golf courses in Ohio and Indiana where I live never shut down.
Good vid, showing the importance of getting your driver fully optimising through a professional fitting👍
I've just had my mavrik sub zero cut down to 44inch with weight added (D3). Can't wait to get out their once the courses reopen (england). Keep up the good work mate. Loving the new house simulator, very jealous!
You didn’t try the srixon? Have you tried the Bridgestone drivers or mizuno driver? I’d like to see some of those tested. If possible of course
Hit my G400 9* PING TOUR stiff shaft 45” 330yrds last weekend. Still waiting for another break thru in tech. Splitting hairs still. It likes TP5x the best it seems.
OMG. I decided to get fitted at Club Champion a week ago after sixteen years of golf with a 5 hdcp, before seeing this video. I brought my gamer TM M5 10.5* with a fujikura motore speeder vc 6.2 stiff and thought that I would end up with the SIM2. Low and behold, I ended up with the Callaway Epic MAX 9.0* with a Mitsubishi Diamana TB series 50S. With the Diamana 50S + Epic Max combo, my club head speed jumped from 93-97 to 104.5-105.2 consistently. More carry, more distance and spin rate down from 2800-3000 to 2500. Due to COVID it would take 5-7 weeks for my new weapon to be ready, and I can't wait to put it to the test. I totally trust the new club would help me tremendously distance wise. I didn't mind spending $1k for the EpicMax+Diamana driver, I could confidently rip that club faster than ever, 104 club head speed and higher. Even though I am a 5 hdcp, I am quite short off the tee and this new driver will definitely down to 2 or even scratch. I wasted a lot of money in the past buying off the rack and wished that I got fitted sooner, so, I highly recommend golfer to get fitted, especially the shaft. Cheers!
I'm using the rad speed regular shat. And I have to say I wish I would've went with the ping
Hey brother, really interesting video. Since you got the blue shaft in the Radspeed, I think you should have got the Radspeed Blue and Red head. Would have looked sweet.
Thanks. I have a set of Sim 2’s coming.
Great video, shame there's not a Club Champion in the UK!
NIce video Matt..but ive got to agree with all the comments below...What about driver fittings for the "budget friendly" golfers...I would like to know what the cost of the shafts run...approx.
I got the cobra speed zone on 9.5 degree with the hazardous 60g stiff shaft. Fitting is definitely worth it
My epic speed just arrived I love it
I bought the Callaway Mavrik (2020) $200 off regular price. Still trying to consistent with it.. Sounds great but considering reducing the length of my shaft for more control.
