1:20 "Don't ever, for any reason, do anything to anyone for any reason ever, no matter what, no matter where, or who, or who you are with, or where you are going, or where you've been... ever, for any reason whatsoever..." -Michael Scott - Mr. Short Game
I watched your videos for 60 and 80 yd shots and it turned my whole golf game around. Improved my consistency and accuracy from my wedge to my driver. Great advice that works on the course.
I’m not a coach or a pro, or even a scratch player, but I am (now) a pretty good ball striker. Took up golf about 7 years ago and started getting serious about 2 1/2 years ago. Thought I’d share a little to elaborate a bit more from the intermediate student perspective. Head down (called it!) - last coach said that on my 3rd lesson and I haven’t gone back. Agree about not standing up out of it as Matt explains but would add the notion of “stable fluid spine” to the explanation (McTeigue, Ballard). Your head can (and should) move freely (mostly rotating as a consequence of body rotation, not leading the rotation), the point is to rotate around your spine as a central axis. More like try to keep the top few vertebrae between your shoulder blades in a fairly static location allowing fluid body movement around the axis but not swaying away or standing up out of it. Hitting down- I relate to the consequences of taking this at face value and the tendency to then start the transition with hands rather than feet (still a frequent battle), but would also note that the “down on it” has some value if you consider it from only the club arc perspective. For most normal full swings (other than driver and maybe 3w off tee), the club face should impact the ball while it’s on the downward path, not the upward side of the arc. Essentially, don’t try to scoop the ball.
ever since i started loading on my back leg and moving my head off the ball (cuz I'm rotating way further in my back swing) I've gained at least 8mph in ball speed. I think his advice is geared towards like 30 handicapers.
I have heard ALL of these more than once. "3 rules of Golf....1. Keep your head down. 2. Keep your head down.3. Keep your stupid head down." hahaha My pastor told me this the first time playing. I sway...you've helped me with this. AND I took lessons. FIRST thing was your #1....rotate your hands and point that club to the sky. LOL I'm learning...Mr. SC has helped my a BUNCH...been following since California. You're not too far from me now...GA/Bama State line. So I'm shooting about 88-92 now after 4 years of serious golf...trying to learn. Hoping my score continues to go down. Thanks for ALL your help!!! "Like and Subscribe" I have done!!! LOL
I just LOOOVE MrShort!!! I mean really. He's just got this very cool disposition about himself. So glad to be a part of the channel. He's comical at times and down right genuine. His guidance is spot on. Taking notes folks!
Tip number one I learned from you from an earlier video you put out a few years back. Absolutely the best tip I ever received. Free at that. It can be a game changer for so many. I have never or cannot remember anyone one else ever mentioning this issue.
2 weeks back into golf watching countless videos of tricks or skill practice and this video was all I needed. Did I say I have 1000 golf balls hit with crappy form in those two weeks? Well this fixed my mind game and way to look from a different point with simple practices. Can't wait to try it out! I will post after I have hit 200 golf balls with Mr. Short's advice. See you guys soon!
This may be the absolute best golf instructional video Ive ever watched. Unfortunately i have been told all 5 things over the years and have incorporated everyone into my golf swing (thus my 22 handicap after 15 years of playing!) so excited for my next trip to the range!
Thanks for this video Matt. It confirms what I’ve always thought and said to others. It is a golf swing not a golf hit. Focus ones attention to make a good swinging motion and the contact with the ball will take care of itself.
One of the earliest things I was was ever told to do was 1. Keep my head down, 2. Look behind the ball 3. open my clubface 1/2-3/4 thru my back swing by turning/cocking my wrists. Eventually, playing got to where it wasn't fun anymore. I haven't played in almost 10 years. Nerve problems in my legs and feet have kept me from doing a lot of things these last few years, but recent improvement in that department has given me motivation to go play again. The last set of clubs I bought were Nike Dymo 2, Driver and Woods with Sumo Irons when they first came out. Replacing the equipment is what's gonna hurt me more than my feet lol! I hate them more than I care to say. Thanks for the videos. I've enjoyed watching.
The best video of yours that I have seen on the mechanics of the golf swing. All things i have been working on in the last few months. Great content and well done!
Interesting point you made regarding Greg Norman, about how he never left a divot. I also never leave divots, yet it seems to be always a major pointer in the golf swing in many videos on you tube. I am learning still and I have a long way to go, but from videos from Mr Short Game and Danny Maude and a few lessons from my local golf outlet and just going out on the course and trying things. My scores tell me I am doing a few things right and of late many shots feel so effortlessly and even I have been surprised at the end result
Malcolm, don't worry about a divot. Sweeping or picking the ball is perfectly fine. You only see pro's taking divots on tv depending on the shot they're hitting.
MSG, great video as always. Love the energy, keep it up! I was looking at your hitting area. What a great place to hit balls! I would love to build something like that in my back yard. Have you ever done a video on getting setup at home? Building a perfect golf man cave get away for golfers?
IMHO, one of your better videos. I've known for a long time we aren't supposed to pull the club down in our perceived attempt to start accelerating the club for speed but didn't realize the affect (getting narrow and collapsing of arms).
Great VIDEO ! You covered so many issues in that video. Yes many bad habits to fix in your swing. Love the AROUND thought, I early extend with my wedges and shank. Keep up all the great teaching and myth debunking
To keep from standing up, I started standing more upright. No swaying or chopping. Much better view of ball. I do use a reminder to keep my head still (helps with swaying) but not down. Down makes me bob my head down and crash into the ground. My swing is around my body using stack and tilt. Problem was I was swinging to flat around my body and very inconsistent as a result. Thanks for all your good teaching.
Mate, enjoyed this so much. Really helpful, so many misconceptions I have been told in the past that when it goes tits up, i want to wrongly fall back on
Played Sunday in scorching heat in Melb Aus. Hardly anyone on course so had plenty of time to experiment before heat fatigue got the better of me towards the end. As a result I did notice a slight rotation in my wrists on my down swing which made me stray my tee shots to the right. Another awesome video....'Golf Police"....Leave your money and run!... take care Matt
Love this! You are the best at simplifying everything about golf! Thank you for your awesome instruction and for your personality ! You are so funny ! Thank You for making me smile and laugh while learning your valuable golf lessons! You have helped me get better !
the sway / slide thing hit home for me. Nobody's ever told me it was the right move, but my single swing thought for the last 2 years has been "don't sway".
Ooof, yeah. Took these concepts to the range today, and it has been one of your best videos to really drive these points home... They were all things I have been trying to focus on, but found that my actual application of them has been wildly off the mark. I think that the real benefit came from taking these “keys points” every golf instructional video says you need to apply to your swing, but giving you an actual “swing thought” to help achieve them. Practical application beats theory every time. Thank you.
You are the best. I love how you teach. Your video on the proper way to hold the club. Or (Receive it ) allowed me have the best round of golf ⛳ I have had in 30 years. I wish I was kidding. Thanks very much From 🇨🇦 🙏👏👏 This video is awesome too!
So, just starting to play golf at age 54. And I gotta tell you, all of the bad habits you mentioned not to do, I have been told to do. The last thing I want is to start bad golf swing habits. Your vid has taught me a lot in just a few minutes. Thanks for that! 🤙
Fully agree! Do nót tinker with your natural body movements. All bodies are different. Each persons swing is specific. Stop the swing-thinking. Start feeling the swing.
This was a great video. I've recently switched my swing up and these are the things I've been learning. It's been hard to break old habits though. "Don't add down to down" that part of the video had me rolling haha!
This is great advice. I think sometimes we make things to complicated in the golf swing and the kinesiology of it is that the brain can only complete task it can understand. I would love to one day hear what you suggestions for teaching juniors would be. Thank you!
Who plays with that one guy that always says "you picked your head up" ? I say they should worry about their own game and leave mine alone!! Thanks Mr. SG for the video. I have spent the last year trying to remove a couple of the issues you mentioned. I finally found a coach that listens.
Always liked your back yard practice area in California, but the new studio is ace, paticularly now that you have skytrack, so we see exactly the results as you teach. Content as always was great and so true. I was that player, 5 out of 5, not any more thanks to you and the results speak for themselves. From next week in the UK we can actualy get out and play, can't wait to practice the stuff you teach. Thanks Matt.
What I like about you is that you talk about feel. Most of what the bio-"mechanics" talk about is body position and angles. Although having an intuitive sense of where the club head is in relationship to your hands is probably the most important aspect of striking the ball accurately.
This has to be one of the best videos I have ever watched. I do all of these which will explain why I'm a 19 handicapper. Thanks very much for the content. Congratulations on a cracking video
I've spent the last few months trying to resurrect my swing, with proper techniques, after a boat with cancer. Fortunately the nearly 3 years without Golf flushed out a lot of bad habits, that many of your videos are now correcting. Thank you! Oh by the way, can you add a video showing how to properly (cool) twirl the club after a good shot, so I don't look like a newbie!
Number one: CORRECT so true, this is a must, i knew this but i never got told this so i wouldnt know. Number two: Yes, very true to the common golfer but, Kyle berkshire does swing also he has a totally diff swing then any of us. Number Three: Ok, yeah makes sense. Number four: yeah i lift a lot, makes sense. i was told by 25 handdicappers " watch the ball being hit and then you can look out for it" Number five: fair enough, never heard that one. great video man!
Love your videos. Really good advice and always laughing. Wondering if you could give us a video on the new Callaway Big Bertha B21 Driver? Thanks in advance
Hi,very nice background, the colors are nice can see you clear, good job.the spin move is cool cool cool ,we played debell in Burbank 36 holes Sunday, can not move, will try it tomorrow in studio city.hi from la and thank you
Thanks for the video! My game is slowly improving but I’ll take it. One question, a friend advised I stick my butt more out before I swing. Would this help with staying low? I did notice the emphasis on hips. Thanks
Love watching your videos. Love the effort you put into them. May I ask. Which Launch Monitor you use in your set up? Thank you in advance Mr. Short Game.
Wow! I've been playing a little over a month now and JUST realized that I'm rotating my hands. My first thought was "this can't be right!" Now I jump on RUclips and here you are confirming it. MONEY!

HAHA YES I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of that lol
Haha!!! I thought the same thing.
Too fn wordy

Look at who almost won the Sentry TOC. Joaquín Niemann. His head moves, but he focuses on the ball until after impact.

Favorite teacher on you tube. Man this guy is funny, logical and concise.
I just LOOOVE MrShort!!! I mean really. He's just got this very cool disposition about himself. So glad to be a part of the channel. He's comical at times and down right genuine. His guidance is spot on. Taking notes folks!

Its all about clarity. This guy is good. Simple, less confusing. There are a million ways to hit a bad golf shot, only a few ways to hit a good one.
i like how you tell it straight no f ing around enjoyable to watch thanks mate len mack from aus

My first pro was a tour player. He emphasized that a teacher should NEVER show people what not to do. He was a great teacher.
The best video of yours that I have seen on the mechanics of the golf swing. All things i have been working on in the last few months. Great content and well done!
I absolutely love your vids . Helpful and so entertaining
Well done...Mr. ShortGame...enjoyed the video.
Great tips!.. now I just need my work shift to end so I can get the practice range!.. Thanks Matt!!

From all of your videos, this is the best.!!! My HCP is gping down since I,ve been watching your videos, Thank You!
Enjoyed. Thanks
first time i've seen his work, a lot of it asked questions on my game, and made sense.
gonna check on his other work.
Love the content. I stand up on the ball. Definitely gonna try that tip
Great VIDEO ! You covered so many issues in that video. Yes many bad habits to fix in your swing. Love the AROUND thought, I early extend with my wedges and shank. Keep up all the great teaching and myth debunking

Super helpful video! Any drills u recommend for turning the hips and not trusting forward?
Nice video. I must say that I went through these 5 bad advices in the past. What you say is so true. And the way you say it is very funny.
Mate, enjoyed this so much. Really helpful, so many misconceptions I have been told in the past that when it goes tits up, i want to wrongly fall back on

Fabulous thanks..
Was so confused.

Brilliant. I think I was told all of those BAD things at some time. Worked a couple out myself, but this was great.
Good advice and well explained.
This video helped me big time … thumbs up on the advise …. The thought process before the shot surely does help a lot … to good drives 🍻
Outstanding video. Keep it up. These things make all the difference in my game!

Just did your advice in the back yard, immediate results! Very well explained for golf dummy's! Subscribed!
I also want to gouge my eyes out when I hear someone say "keep your head down", or "you lifted your head".
Great video!
Not to be pedantic.....oh what the heck, I'm being pedantic....but shouldn't you actually want to gouge your EARS out? ;-)
GOuge theirs instead !
Best lesson ever
Thanks Matt
Good stuff. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for all the work to provide us quality content. Excellent.
Once of your best quick videos. Every player needs to watch this one.

Love the screen! What type of fabric are you using??
This is the best golf video in the history of golf videos. Mic drop 🎤

I loved this lesson. I am a sweeper. If I take a divot it is a fat shot.
thanks mate, awesome tips
Great lesson
Great work Matt! Very helpful and entertaining.
Have you done a video on how to use the right shoulder in transition?
Wow! I've been playing a little over a month now and JUST realized that I'm rotating my hands. My first thought was "this can't be right!" Now I jump on RUclips and here you are confirming it. MONEY!
