Awesome! Mike you absolutely nailed it! It's so great when RUclipsrs cover popular classic songs. There's so much hidden talent out there. Thank you Mike!
I searched Mike Reed and the Happy Organ, just knowing he would blow this out of the water. The classic Hammond sound really stirs the emotions in me. Love the bass lines and the glissandos.
Here in Detroit, my buddy grew up down the street from Dave "Baby Cortez (real last name Clowney) in the 50s early 60s. Your keyboard mastery sir is just wonderful! I really enjoyed it and as I sit here, I kick myself for giving up on keyboard lessons at age 15.
Okay! Mr. Reed, I just listened to your unbelievable rendition of The Happy Organ. When it finished, I literally yelled out WOW! I smiled, and sat in silence for a moment. This must be what is known as being absolutely "blown away". The Dave 'Baby' Cortez record was one of my favorites on the radio. In the summer of '58 I spent 65 cents of my allowance on the 45. Thanks for adding your great talent to a fun, enjoyable updated version. You kept the word Happy in it all the way through. I hope Dave Cortez will also hear how you have honored the tune. Kind regards Sir.
This is so beautifully done. Thank you so much for sharing your version of a classic tune. If you want to make it closer to the 45 rpm "Clock" record of 1959, jump the speed of this video up by 1.25. Either way, it's fantastic!
I see that left foot holding down the bass, nice! Incredible version, thanks for posting! If you want to play keys on a surf type song I'm releasing soon, hit me up!
Even better after hearing it a 2nd time! You would sound great in a Ballpark, a theater, a "hip" church, or any rock band . Man, you really know how to operate that thing!
Excellent! Dave BAby would be proud (believe he's still alive). One of my all time favorite instrumentals from the age of rock and roll out of 1959. Can you do his followup called WHISTLING ORGAN as well as his 1962 RINKY DINK? Larry N. Boyington, aka Larry Neal, former curator of the Wax Museum on the big 1520 KOMA
Classic song.Good job by this player.I amusingly imagine another organ legend like Keith Emerson playing a song called, say "The Unhappy Organ";man, imagine what that sound like:fire-breathing,hellfire organ, thunderous, screaming.Just a thought.😆🎹
I have 2 music degrees, and am a music educator.....BUT I have always been able to memorize anything that I LIKE to play. And if I don't like a song, it doesn't stay with me. Just the way I'm wired, I guess. Thanks.....
Pls ROCK this ole 70s souped up conn with external speaker into the ground, a friend who dad bot it from use to play like you, no sheet music, listen to the music and sit at the keys and just crank her out!!!
Excellent work man! Want to do some Cherry Wainer hits in her honor? What's the model of your Hammond with the integrated music player (oh, 1974 Hammond Grandee with a model 700 Leslie speaker).
REQUEST: Batman! I have the 196(6?) LP somewhere... I bet you could do something interesting with multiple styles. Inspired by the drawbars and rhythm you used here...Happy Otgan Batman Loves Shortnin' Bread. Yeah it's late here.
you play well, but its a bit difficult to the original " flooding " sound.try to get it a bit to the original-tunes...... its your own style,ok.but i miss the flooding,if u kno what i mean **__** !!!!!
The original hit #1 in May, 1959 and this is an excellent cover. Not many can nail such a classic.
