His bass kick is so gnarly and rugged, in my opinion he's the hendrix of drums in terms of taking something as dirty as hard rock drumming and somehow make it even dirtier and unique
I agree a million percent. John Bonham is the whole reason I fell in love with drums when I was 4 years old and 41 years later at 45 I still love the drums just as much. Oh btw, after years of trying to find out exactly what he was tapping on, because nothing I tried ever sounded right when playing the song, it turns out hes tapping on an old school leather guitar case. In case you were wondering. 🤘😝🤘

Amazing talent for sure, I arrived here seeking an answer to the soft percussion the intro features. Always thought it may have been a bohdran when considered in normal fashion. Listening to it isolated changes my mind whether a plastic fiver is in line for consideration. Not being a drummer I'm at a loss for describing properly; just shows his genius is not lost on the casual observer.
Nolimitscomedy I know this is late but if you listen to Bathroom Sound on the rerelease of Zep III, it’s without vocals and you can hear Bonzo’s part really well.
He didn't *do* this track. Any song in the Rock Band (video game) catalog is provided by the record company as separated master tracks from the original studio recording(s). People have figured out how to go into the game binaries and rip the digital audio out for any of the songs included in the game. Ramble On (as well as about a thousand other songs) are all over RUclips as "isolated" drums, bass, guitars, vocals. Sorry, nobody has any special sources or connections. They are instruments ripped from Rock Band. It's that simple. Unless *Out On The Tiles* is released for Rock Band, nobody is going to be getting the discrete drum tracks.

These are awesome. I'd love to hear Rock 'n Roll...everyone seems to think everyone else is playing the intro wrong or at least has the timing of it wrong.
Lies. *NO* software can isolate instruments back out from a final stereo mix. This drum track is from a video game. Second least favorite drum sound on any Zep album, there's a picture of him at A&M studios (circa '69), just crammed into a corner, you should not try to cage such an animal! ..haha.. They ended up sounding overdriven/distorted, compressed to crap, wonky EQ-wise, etc. Best out of any is the In Through the Out Door sessions, just fantastic, let those suckers breath! Anyway, it's still 'The Man' ... thanks for uploading ...cheers
It does indeed sound like inside a cardboard box full of pillows. With minutes of basic setup, and $50 microphones, I can get leaps & bounds better quality sound in my bedroom, than this studio achieved. And I'm sure, as "budget" as people say it was, ANY studio used expensive (now vintage) sparkling microphones, had a top line console/preamps... maybe this was just degraded crap tape. Because there is no presence, crispness, top end whatsoever.

Totally agree. He hit the drums in a way no ever drummer has before or since.
no
i dont like the phrase "he is the hendrix of drums" , he is john bonham
Bonham was both a master of rhythm and accentuation
Even the hand tapping during the verses sound special.
Rightfully so.
He changes the timing a tiny bit at around 2:03, adds a ghost note or syncopates the rhythm or something (I am not great with musical jargon).
a trick: watch series at Flixzone. Been using them for watching loads of movies these days.
@Roland Ryder Definitely, been using Flixzone for months myself :)

The heart of Zepp.
Such great touch with the little pushes and pulls. Everything is so quantized now you would never get something as organic and alive.
Incredible. Man was a force of musical nature. RIP
Could listen to this all day.
I can’t believe that’s his bass drum. The triplets on good times bad times are even more impressive.
He wasn't doing triplets on every tune!He played what the music needs!
His right foot was on fire
The Greatest Drummer Of ALL TIME!
Almost everything he played in standard 4/4 time too. Dude was a savage on the skins.
Like half his songs are standard 4/4.
This is fun to hear it this way. I used to jam on this tune often!
Love the drumming in this track, one of my favourite.

Sugarfoot maybe?
@@jakubnovak814 M'bape maybe?
@@pierrepetry5734 Yeah, also very skilled foot :D
@@jakubnovak814 Lol!
Bonzo THE G.O.A.T
You all should listen to the isolated vocals. It is incredible.
The one dislike was Lars Ulrich
You just made me actually laugh out loud! Thanks, bud!!
Lars who?
LOL....!!!!
Nah, it was probably Ginger Baker.
Poor Lars lol he gets too much shit hahaha
That bass drum tone 😮😮😮😮
ZZZZ--BEST Ever R.I.P Bonzo
What David Gilmour is to guitar, John Bonham is to drums… He really knows how to evoke emotion with percussive instruments.
Gilmore? Hardly.
A virtuoso AND a beast!! Freakin' awesome! Best ever.
Sounds like me on the practice pad in the beginning 😅. He's great.
i'd like to see some of these on Danney Carey....
Awesome video love how you separated Bonham's beat from the music. He truly was great.
Beautiful!

Could you do the isolated track for out on the tiles? If possible?
Unfortunately, unfortunately, not yet.

Wow even better than I remember
Wow! Thanks for this!
A beast. Legend!!!

What’s the deal with the metronome for the first 1:16???
Animal from The Muppet Show approves of this.
He sure does!

I was lucky to get an isolated track.

Abandoned Mines Nova Scotia, Great description !
GRACIAS!!!!!! 💙
Is he hitting a practice pad in the verse sections? Does anyone know for sure what he's hitting to get that sound?
sleuth 2077 From Wikipedia: “the book John Bonham: A Thunder of Drums reports instead of a hard case for guitar on which Bonham improvised percussion background with bare hands.”
i always hated that part i feel like the song would be better without it
Ive also heard its possibly the bottom of a shoe. guitar case sound right

How do you get these haha
These are awesome. I'd love to hear Rock 'n Roll...everyone seems to think everyone else is playing the intro wrong or at least has the timing of it wrong.
They have a crazy muffled dampened sound. This must not be the final submix. ??
Beat♥️❤️
hi, can you isolate four sticks?
Hi. Unfortunately not.
Where do you get this stuff?
From various sources.
Is that called' 'White Soul'? Stay free. 💚 🌠
Has anyone else tried to use your mouse on the video like it's your DAW and then remembered that it's a video?
Ha-ha. Yes, in the comments from time to time they write about it :)
What software did you use?
Audasity 1.3 audio editor (freeware).

You're forgetting that cramped quarters was all they could afford in '69.
That’s what happens when you record an album on the road in like 5 weeks lol some corners end up getting cut production-wise

@@abandoned-mines-novascotia you're missing the fact that around this time, recording drums with more than 2 mics was incredibly extraordinary!
Doesn't do it for me like other Bonham tracks. Actually sounds quite clumsy. Not one of his best.
whoopdedoo.
Remember he may have been wasted
What???
AHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHH
