    Something I don’t mention in the video, is that the carb is electronically controlled not only to limit bhp to a leisurely 3, but also for fuel economy and emissions. These things actually have a lambda sensor, and the ECU controls the carb mixture too.

    • @StupidBlokeStupidVideos
      @StupidBlokeStupidVideos  3 года назад

      This should help it get up to speed faster but won’t do a lot for top speed. You can buy derestricted variators really cheap on eBay though, they can probably sell derestricted slide on its own. Type in GY6 50cc variator and it should be the same as what’s on your bike, but maybe ask the seller to make sure before ordering. If you do de-restrict the variator, doing this mod along with it should have a greater effect.

    • @StupidBlokeStupidVideos
      @StupidBlokeStupidVideos  3 года назад

      Depends how far you go. If you just change the barrel and piston and keep the same cylinder head and camshaft then the standard carb usually works fine and you should gain a good bit of low down grunt. if you change things like the rollers, camshaft etc to move the power higher up the Rev range then then you can rejet the carb, or in some cases you might need to replace it to get the best results.

    • @bambi992

      @@StupidBlokeStupidVideos So far Ive changed to heavier rollers and took out the variator limiter, looking to buy a 70cc kit but im wondering will it even change my top speed by all that much since the ecu is still limiting the revs?

    • @StupidBlokeStupidVideos
      @StupidBlokeStupidVideos  3 года назад +1

      Heavier rollers won’t necessarily give you a higher top speed, it will just speed up the rate the belt climbs the variator and lower the revs until it reaches top gear. The standard rollers should reach the top of the variator/top gear but take a bit longer to get there. The reason for changing rollers is to keep the engine in its torque curve, so if you move the power higher up the Rev range then lighter rollers will keep you in the power etc. No matter how much power you give it, the top speed will be determined by the gearing as long as there’s no electronic restrictor or the engine doesn’t have the power to reach it.

      @@StupidBlokeStupidVideos hey! Thanks for the reply. It’s back together now but I think there was 4. Pretty sure the CDI is restricted however as online place that sells my scooter advertise a restricted version and a derestricted version and in the parts section they sell derestricted CDI’s so for £30 shipped might as well give it a go. But yeah, unplugging the wheel speed sensor restricted it to 20mph with a flashing EML which sucked. Great video however, I blocked the 2 pipes to carb (mine had mini tiny air filters on each end next to 2 solenoids) and now it accelerates much quicker at least so thanks for that bud!

    • @StupidBlokeStupidVideos
      @StupidBlokeStupidVideos  3 года назад +2

      @@a1d3nh0 yea the carb mod won’t adjust the top speed if it’s on a limiter, just acceleration and hills. If a de-restricted CDI is only that price then it’s worth buying, but the ones I looked into buying when I made the video were much more expensive. Make sure the ECU you get is got a euro 4 model and not the older CDI which just controls the ignition and and not the carb. I was going to suggest putting the speed sensor back in place and grinding half of the pickup lugs off if there’s more than one, so the ECU still gets a signal but is tricked into thinking the bike is only going half its actual speed.

      @@fax2000 I did both of them, follow the vac lines and block the ones linked the the solenoid valves. It works by the solenoids opening and releasing the vacuum above the diaphragm that pulls the slide up, thus dropping the slide/closing the throttle. I tried all these RUclips videos to make a 50cc scooter faster. NONE OF THEM WORKED very well at all. 6MPH isn't even noticeable. I spent maybe $200US and just built a 100CC engine from Italian Vespa GY6 parts. Now my little cheap Chinese scooter (Euro 4) hits about 65-ish.. Up hill is no longer a problem. Everything is cheap for a scooter. Entire engine is less than $300US. So forget all these "make your slow scooter faster" videos.. they are ALL pointless. Spend the money for a real motorcycle or spend a little money and build a more powerful GY6. Who is going to check for emissions on a vehicle that you do not have to register? No one ..LOL.. so get rid of all the emissions junk. BTW: Chinese parts are horrible and will not last under constant usage.

    • @StupidBlokeStupidVideos
      @StupidBlokeStupidVideos  3 года назад

      You’re missing the point a little bit. 50cc scooters, in this country at least, are restricted. This is just about removing that restriction and giving the bike back the power it was initially designed with before the restrictor was added to meet rules and regulations. What you’re talking about is tuning/modifying, which is a different game altogether. You’re obviously going to gain much more by modifying than just derestricting, but it’s much more involved and expensive. This is easy and costs nothing to do, and it does make a noticeable difference to the performance of done correctly.
