Gene editing yields tomatoes that flower and ripen weeks earlier

    Using a simple and powerful genetic method to tweak genes native to two popular varieties of tomato plants, a team at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) has devised a rapid method to make them flower and produce ripe fruit more than 2 weeks faster than commercial breeders are currently able to do.
    This means more plantings per growing season and thus higher yield. In this case, it also means that the plant can be grown in latitudes more northerly than currently possible - an important attribute as the earth’s climate warms.

    Wouldn't tomato lines, not dependent on pollen to set fruit, do all of what's mentioned in this video? I think my lines checks most of those boxes. :O) I'm going through your videos related to tomato as you likely know now. If not, I've got the magic gene needed in several lines. And, they're quite early too in my comparisons.

    Cool, but why that gene exists in the first place ? It can't be there for no reason, maybe this study lacks long term analysis of what could be the consequence of suppressing such gene

      Good question. The plants with these modifications will no doubt be cultivated in a test environment to see what this altercation does in long term.
      Personally I think it's related to energy conservation. Flowers do not yield energy like leaves and the plant needs to allocate its recourses to reproductive parts.
      But in cultivation environments, energy is not as limited as in the wild

    put the genome of rhizobium bacteria in big trees so we got more efficient protein synthesis nitrogen and manures which produced super food easily and cheaply

    use crisper genome structure so ukyliptus plants become sandalwood genome so we got more perfumes along with highway world wide

    put the oil plants genome in big trees so we got oils factory as a cheaper cost

    put the genome of ukyliptus plants with graph fruits or sandalwood genome so we got more perfumes on the road in all the India
    put the genome of oil plants with genome of mango tree so we got mango pickle automatically
