Fun fact: Nergi _does_ actually have a special power, which is his absurd regenerative abilities. While this doesn't show in game (because it wouldn't be fun at all) it explains how Nerg is perfectly fine with taking huge hits in turf wars with other extremely powerful monsters.
While Raging Brachydios has an "Immortal Reactor" which developes endless stem cells for eternal life and growth, Nergigante clearly one ups Raging Brachy due to a hyper regen factor.
Thomas Allen sorry, why did you make up such a thing for raging brach. That’s so stupid. Read the description of the immortal reactor and you will discover that it simply makes his slime stronger. Please tell me where this stem cell thing came from?

Stephen Lamb most likely starts when it actually eats an elder dragon.. uses the bio energy and cuz of that one the spikes fall off.. becoming an egg of sorts
So lemme get this straight. Nergigante is a porcupine, Godzilla and Wolverine hybrid dragon that reproduces asexually by litteraly planting its spikes into other Elder Dragons to suck up their bio energy, to feed the developing Nergi embryos? Damn...
This just makes it even more terrifying who knows maybe you killed a nergigante then a completely identical nergigante appears out of no wear and your just like what i just killed you
Yes, the part about Nergigante's Reproduction is confirmed by capcom. My videos include a fair bit of speculation but the section on Nergis procreation is based on "Dive to Monster Hunter", an artbook released in Japan BY CAPCOM that included, among many concept arts and sketches, information blurbs about some Monsters. This is where this truly bizarre info came from, right from the creators pen. The book is incredibly imteresting (for example describing the life cycle of the Zorah) so I highly recommend giving it a peek if you can get your hands on it!
About that part of reproduction, it could be that the Bioenergy it absorbs slightly mutates the spikes, including creating bigger or smaller Nergigante. That could explaing why some are smaller than others.
The "reproduction through spikes" completely defies biology for a vertebrate organism like nergigante, especially since we know for fact that it's close relatives in the true elder dragons do lay eggs, so I would REALLY like to see the source for this. The only person I heard it came from was banned lagiacrus on Twitter, who got it from translating a concept art book. So if I could see the video or interview where it is stated explicitly by the developers, I'll concede.
One thing I’d like to put in as input is that ruiner nerg isn’t an adaptation per se but actually an older stage of its life which is why it’s specified that they are older and more experienced. The purple spikes that harden are likely spikes that can actually carry viable offspring which are probably why they are even harder than normal. It’s whole quest for bioenergy can be compared to how mosquitos look for blood to produce eggs
Another thing to add is that Nergigante's regenerative abilities and asexual reproduction require extremely high quantities of Bioenergy. It's a natural extension of their abilities, really. Nergigante has immense physical strength and regenerative capabilities, and this constant shedding of thorns would play well into propagating the species more efficiently. However, the cost is the requirement of tackling the strongest Monsters around to acquire and maintain the Bioenergy quality and quantity necessary. It's a natural balancing mechanism. Nergigante are some of the fiercest Elder Dragons around, being able to consistently prey on other Elder Dragons and the strongest Monsters. Their genetic design seems perfectly suited to this task, so their limit is intensive energy needs to reproduce and upkeep this power, thus keeping the population down and preventing them from overrunning the environments of the planet. In turn, their high potential power as a species keeps other Elder Dragons and Monsters in check.
It's ironic that despite being called the Extinction Dragon, Nergigante is unintentionally a peacekeeper because it fights the other Elder Dragons that would most likely change or collapse entire ecosystems.
I like how the reckless Nergigante grows into the cunning Ruiner Nergigante. Regular Nergi would have exhausted itself chipping away at Shara Ishvalda’s rock armor. Combine that with Shara’s air blasts and spirit bombs, and a tired Nergi would likely get beaten. Ruiner Nergi just plays dead, lets hunters do all the hard work (and carting), puts all its strength into killing Shara, and roars its version of “I am the greatest”. This increased its chances of getting a meal rich in bio energy without endangering itself against an unfamiliar Elder Dragon and that’s impressive.
Not just that, but I assume it did so because it already is QUITE familiar with the Ace of the Fifth and their strength. I believe its actually The Nergi we fight in the main story of base World, it just barely survived the fight. Its why it looks at us as the only rival it has, the one who can best it. So the 'rematch' before Shara Ishvalda is it squaring us up thinking its able to win now, but not foolish enough to assume assured victory. And when its clear it wont win against us, fakes death knowing we will fight Ishvalda ourselves with our Elder level power making an easy meal. Thus the MR99 Quest, To the Very Ends with You, makes it sound its the true final throw down with your adversary, that finally one of you dies. Its description even makes it sound as such, "I know you've been waiting for this, and I bet Nergigante has, too. You guys are basically joined at the hip. But it's time to end this. Go get 'em, Hunter!" That is not a descriptor for any random monster you hunt, no clearly that's the kinda history you have with only 1, just like Gore Magala.

It does so as a combat technique to spread effluvium, whereas Ruiner Nerg was observed to do so for a much longer time, showing a patience unheard of in most monsters that are considered as aggressive.
Asexual reproduction comes with another big flaw which is that the mutations an organism suffered from (adding, getting rid off or replacing an amino acid) will get inherited within the new being, tho the mutation can also play in the species favor sometimes which might be a theory (even if incomplete and really basic) as to why ruiner nergigante exists. I think I have a good explanation for the evolution of Nergignte. Nerg began as a simple Brute Wyvern with Horns, Scales, Claws, Ect. It’s echological niche was probably preying on large, meaty monsters. However, this BetaNerg would find itself being pushed out of its natural habitat during Elder Crossings, a regular event where beings with a LOT of Bioenergy come to its home to die. This means that in regular intervals, BetaNergs would be essentially deprived of its only food source by the older, more powerful Elder Dragons. It would still survive as an ambush predator and scavenger, but it was still a force put apon it. Beta Nerg would be forced to become more of a Scavenger, it’s body adapting to be a bit smaller during this time, and probably beginning to adapt its tooth-like thorns as a method to keep itself and its scavenged meal safe from others who would try and take it. But since these spines were breakable, the BetaNerg probably adapted to having its skin damaged and moved, hence a healing factor on the outside of its body. However, the thing with the Elder Crossing is that Elder Dragons come to the New World TO DIE. And as BetaNerg was a scavenger now, it would definitely eat any Elder Dragon Corpses it found. The Bioenergy of dying Elder Dragons would then be absorbed by the dominant BetaNergs, the beings who survived the best, and that would get passed on to its offspring. As we know, Bioenergy is a strange and powerful phenomenon. So what happens when a monster species who is both a predator and a scavenger absorbs a lot of it throughout the generations? I’ll tell you; any unique characteristics it had get put into overdrive. It’s spines cover its entire body, it’s skin becomes even better at taking and healing from damage, it’s mind begins to grow and adapt, and it’s body begins to grow back to its original size, or perhaps bigger. This then creates what I like to call AlphaNerg, who isn’t quite an Elder Dragon yet. It’s echological niche is all about ambushing and killing, and/or eating the corpse of, Elder Dragons. AlphaNerg had a VERY good time in its new niche, essentially becoming an energy-sink for the New World, instead of it all going to Xenojiva. AlphaNerg were like leeches to the Elder Crossing, they fed off it, but they made sure to keep their host alive and functioning. It is at this point that the powerful self-healing properties of AlphaNerg and its increasingly lonely lifestyle that it created a final adaptation; it would generate a large bulge on its body, and would begin creating a genetic clone of itself. Exactly how this is possible is pretty hard to tell, but it’s the best I got. That massive amounts of Bioenergy, a solitary lifestyle, and its powerful healing ability, and maybe some final unknown factor, it began to reproduce Aesexualy. It is my idea that this is where the Nergigante we all know and love to hunt exists. During Elder Crossings, Nergs will go on the prowel, compelled to kill and eat as many Elder Dragons as possible to absorb as much Bioenergy as possible, while also physically eating. Then, during the off-season, Nergs will “roost” in an area, essentially being Apex Predators with NO real competition besides Bazelgeuse or Deviljho. It’s pool of available prey for strong Bioenergy is lowered, so it goes into a state of semi-hibernation. It takes all the Bioenergy it has taken and creates Genetic Clones, raising them in the off-season before leaving them to fend for themselves before the next Elder Crossing begins. I hope you enjoy my little theory. ^^’
Fun fact, there are some lizard species (including some of the Varanus genus) that CAN reproduce asexually, but this is an emergency solution if they don't find any mates, so it is possible that the Nergigante would work the same way.
These videos are incredible. The amount of effort and dedication in them is clear, really makes these videos go from good to great. Can’t wait for the next one to be released
Tangent, but you might enjoy it: Zorah Magdaros is just Geothermal Godzilla, and Monster Hunter World loosely follows the plots of Godzilla vs. Destoroyah and Godzilla vs. Spacegodzilla but with the events out of order.
Ok theory here: What if using the bio energy theory, nergigante can update itself, like ruiner nergigante will clone an exact nergigante as him, cloning a ruiner nergigante from the start who can have more time to keep updating by consuming more bio energy, making it the ultimate nature's stability defender, always updating to the next menace that can shift the ecosystem in a bad way.
HECTORYZ I always thought it just depends on what level of hardness the spike they were born from was. Like if it was a black one it would be a ruiner or if it was normal u get the point
This monster always reminded me of angurius from the godzilla franchise. Had no special powers or gimmick really to visually strike u...but his tenacity and rage in his combat style makes him a formidable monster in his own right. Much respect for the hedgehog dragon
These are really good I really enjoy how you talk about these creatures and how function and how they function in their environments. Pleasure do more. If u are looking for the next suggestion how about Vaal Hazak?
One important thing to remember about Nergigante is the elder seal. Weapons made from Nergi have high elderseal and suggest the monster has natural abilities which result in elderseal being present. This suggests it’s special ability as a hunter of elders is it’s ability to emit elderseal. Teostra and Lunastra are walking infernos. Kushala commands the winds. Nerg has the almost Magic ability to level the playing field forcing monsters to fight physically which is it’s specialty. If elders are sealed and forced to fight tooth and nail against nergigante its advantage increases a thousand fold. Thus cementing it as the perfect elder hunter.
Good video, but I don’t think it’s spikes would be made of enamel. Enamel is very solid and would take a large amount of energy to grow. Nergi would essentially be growing hundreds of bones out each time you break his spikes. He would also feel an immense amount of pain due to nerve endings in the spike (unless the spike is solid, which is even worse to do how heavy and how much energy it would take to grow, nergi would starve to death as we fight it). I’m pretty sure keratin, the material used to make nails, rhinoceros horns, and reptile scales.
Fascinating, truly it is. Nergigante is a special dragon really, as his role of being a balancer is something nature truly needs, especially in a world of Beasts constantly starving and growing savage because of it, or unnatural gods who can create and shape the weather itself. Truly, balance is something needed.
>Playing dead is unprecedented >Gypceros has left the room Also, all Nergigante are of varying sizes, making the possibility of them being clones of each other unlikely.
*Research Commission:* Removes a natural predator *Ecosystem:* Has a prey population spike which damages nearby ecosystems *Research Commission:* "What could have possibly caused this?"
I would wager to challenge the notion that it reproduces by budding from spikes, but instead self-impregnates by parthenogenesis similar to a few monitor lizards.
I just watched these a few days ago and now I saw another one of these and the thumbnails are different! Tis sudden but I’m all for it they look wonderful
Remember that barroth with Spikes in its body during the Jyuratodus quest? Perhaps that's how the hatchlings properly form with a fresh Carcass to parasitise and gain nourishment from
Just a quick note before I get on with the rest, Nergigante isn't actually from the New World. It makes the Elder Crossing like the rest of the dragons, it's just not very well known outside this phenomenon
Also to regenerate those spikes like wolverine regen power takes lots of energy so nerg has to always be on the hunt for powerful elder dragons. That’s why he followed the dying volcano. Once the volcano dies, he can such energy out of him.
honestly wonder if a video fully focusing on magala's could be possible because their biology and ecology is extremely intriguing and utterly fascinating on top of the topic of the frenzy virus. Also reproduction is quite similar to nergigante i wonder how many elder dragons have very bizzare reproduction methods.
Tbh I looove Negri, possibly bc he's kinda like legendary godzilla, a being to balance order in the air. Where godzilla balances the whole world by keeping his titans in check and not overthrow the world to chaos, nergigante protects the new world from greater high level threats that could destroy everything like ofc zorah when he was marching to xeno'jiva, or shara directly bc he was far too much of a threat. Nergigante feeds on elders bc he knows he must protect the greater world itself that the other E.D's can't do, which is why we couldn't really kill him (even tho we brought him down in the base game it turned out he survived and evolved), bc both are protectors of something bigger than the humans and researchers know of.
After lore elder dragons have human intelligence that'd mean that nerg would become way to smart to the point where it could easily resist for example gore magalas infection or even get resistant to poison or paralyzing, or even just kill Luna and Teo in one fight i suppose its always a new nerg i mean after lore tho
It's possible Ruiner's crystal spikes are spikes affected by a surplus of Bioenergy, hardening and fortifying them, and undergoing the same process that the Bioenergy in the Everstream does in turning raw energy into crystaline "batteries' of raw life energy
How Elder Dragons fight: Chameleon: What you can't see WILL hurt you. Kushala Daora: Attack from the sky amidst winds that would easily down a lesser flier. Teostra and Lunastra: Literally cremate it. Shagaru Magala: Turn off its immune system. Nergigante: F*ck you.
As a Monster hunter fan for years, it makes me happy seeing people in the comments who never heard about the series enjoying this videos, theyre awesome im looking forwars to the next
Theory: The Bio Energy Nergigante eats help with the birth of Nergi's species, obtaining genetic material necessary to create a new creature that can target specific species of Elder Dragons.
I like the implication that each spike must serve as an energy store, otherwise young wouldnt be able to grow. Imagine storing your fat cells in your hair, then pulling it out and throwing it at people when you get into fights. That is how the Nergigante do.
Wait is the reason nerg is so good at dealing with elders is because it’s just extremely aggressive with insane amounts of physical power? It makes sense. Nerg is probably the most physically powerful elder for its size
I love that a person as passionate as you started making videos about this wonderful saga, thanks for the consistent quality content and keep it up, cheers!

I hope you enjoy my little theory. ^^’
I like how you used the arch tempered theme instead of the original one.
I mean of course it's a godly theme
elder dragons running from nergigante and ruiner and they say "why are you running?...WHY ARE RUNNING!?"
So, my boi isn't litterally a Boi?
Wow. Still, for a new episode i vote the Rath lovers
I mean, they'd be great, but i feel like we should get rajang next
I agree to that rath lovers.
so its spikey thems instead of spikey Boi
Other elder dragon: I'm a master of this nature defying element
Nergigante: I'm the master of *THESE HANDS!*
Everybody gangsta until the Nergi spike left behind has grown legs.
Fun fact, there are some lizard species (including some of the Varanus genus) that CAN reproduce asexually, but this is an emergency solution if they don't find any mates, so it is possible that the Nergigante would work the same way.
There’s a species of lizards that’s all female due to only reproducing asexually.
Yeah Nergigante can still produce eggs with different genes in Stories 2
Yeah i think the process is called parthenogenesis. But not sure though
Monitor lizards can do that if I’m not mistaken
snakes as well if they dont find a mate even a male can idk if its true but ive heard about it alot
These videos are incredible. The amount of effort and dedication in them is clear, really makes these videos go from good to great. Can’t wait for the next one to be released
Hey, I was sure someone else felt the same but I wasn't sure if they commented. These are excellent.
"Nature has an order, a power to restore balance. I believe he is that power" Ishiro Serizawa
Aldy Riza Dhiandra love the reference!
Tangent, but you might enjoy it:
Zorah Magdaros is just Geothermal Godzilla, and Monster Hunter World loosely follows the plots of Godzilla vs. Destoroyah and Godzilla vs. Spacegodzilla but with the events out of order.
Ok theory here:
What if using the bio energy theory, nergigante can update itself, like ruiner nergigante will clone an exact nergigante as him, cloning a ruiner nergigante from the start who can have more time to keep updating by consuming more bio energy, making it the ultimate nature's stability defender, always updating to the next menace that can shift the ecosystem in a bad way.
This could explain its existence itself, by little by little upgrading itself with bio energy until it gets to become nergigante.
Love these videos man, great work ^^ ! Please make one about the Rajang, my favourite monster
More of every monster buddy from every game homie, bro skee. Chillin man
Amazing video, hope you make one on every MH monsters!
This is one of my favorite series in all of RUclips lol
These are really good I really enjoy how you talk about these creatures and how function and how they function in their environments. Pleasure do more. If u are looking for the next suggestion how about Vaal Hazak?
I would watch a vid like this on every single monster, this is fantastically done

These are so cool! Hope you can make one on Rajang! Keep up the good work!
Please do Rajang next! Love your videos keep it going :D
Click, pause, like, play.
Again, thank you. I am EAGERLY anticipating a Vaal Hazak analysis!
That part about how it analyzes and dials up the ferocity as the fight continues gave me chills for some reason. This was well done.
Awesome work on my favorite monster! Good job. 👌
Admiral : Your clones are very impressive, you must be very proud.
Nergigante : I'm just a simple monster trying to make my way in the New World.
My favorite thing about Nergigante is its name. It's just so fun to say!
Elder Dragon: Evolves to the point of bringing nature out of balance
Nergigante: "and i took that personally"
Has some nurgi parts in my box
WAKE UP TO BE MISSING MY SUPPLIES AND TO HAVE A PET
It’s funky to learn that Nergy is basically a viral dragon Hunter
These vids are actually helpin me become a better hunter. Take the knowledge he gives and use it to your advantage.
The guiding lands cutscene where nerg dragged the bazelgeuse down while it was exploding it scales was pure badass.
I could imagine nergi going after xeno right when it was born. No way it would let such abundant food left alone like that
You clearly put a lot of effort and time into these vids and they are pure quality. You definitely don't get enough credit man, great job!
If you do another monster hunter documentary vid
May I suggest the boy... Diablos?
I think you’ve earned a new sub too. Big moves

Someone's a fan of rage gaming.
I fucking love the way you rolled out my boys names, before serenading us with AT's theme.
Nergigante: *Basically natures Hunters Guild*
Hunters Guild: kILL IT
Fascinating, truly it is. Nergigante is a special dragon really, as his role of being a balancer is something nature truly needs, especially in a world of Beasts constantly starving and growing savage because of it, or unnatural gods who can create and shape the weather itself. Truly, balance is something needed.
Brilliant as always....
You should examine vaal hazaks symbiotic relationship with the effluvium
When will you make another one of these? I actually love these videos. May I recommend the Nargacuga to be next :)
>Playing dead is unprecedented
>Gypceros has left the room
Also, all Nergigante are of varying sizes, making the possibility of them being clones of each other unlikely.
crazy how a massive beast of pure aggression and power can be completely invalidated by a stick and a shield
Ah so my armor and weapons are made of dead baby’s? No wonder no duel slicers user used the decimation claws
Nergi my beloved
*Research Commission:* Removes a natural predator
*Ecosystem:* Has a prey population spike which damages nearby ecosystems
*Research Commission:* "What could have possibly caused this?"
This videos are really, really well done. Damm.
This was absolutely excellent. I felt like I was watching a real Documentary! You do great work, and I would love to see more MHW documentaries
honestly wonder if a video fully focusing on magala's could be possible because their biology and ecology is extremely intriguing and utterly fascinating on top of the topic of the frenzy virus.
Also reproduction is quite similar to nergigante i wonder how many elder dragons have very bizzare reproduction methods.
Every aspect of Nergigante's aggression and self-destructiveness can be easily explained by the fact that it doesn't get laid. Ever.
Nergigante feeds on elders bc he knows he must protect the greater world itself that the other E.D's can't do, which is why we couldn't really kill him (even tho we brought him down in the base game it turned out he survived and evolved), bc both are protectors of something bigger than the humans and researchers know of.
please do more of these
I love these so much. It feels just like a David Attenborough documentary.
Hell Yh. Some good content. RUclips recommendations is on point.
I love this videos
What if Nergigante was like Mothra, where each Nergigante retains the memories of the Nergi that spawned it...
Before: DIVEBOMB! DUCK AND COVER!
Now: ITS ABOUT TO BUST A FAT NUT,DUCK AND COVER!
How Elder Dragons fight:
Chameleon: What you can't see WILL hurt you.
Kushala Daora: Attack from the sky amidst winds that would easily down a lesser flier.
Teostra and Lunastra: Literally cremate it.
Shagaru Magala: Turn off its immune system.
Nergigante: F*ck you.
Nergigante does actually have an element that it controls.
Violence.
I hope we get episode 5 soon
Nergigante did nothing wrong. The guild just wanted us to murder him because they couldn't stand the competition.
> Reproduces by smashing
So, like da Orkz from 40k?
(Also, video just in time for Valentines day)
As a Monster hunter fan for years, it makes me happy seeing people in the comments who never heard about the series enjoying this videos, theyre awesome im looking forwars to the next
Nergigante is literally Monster Hunters Honey Badger and I love it
Theory: The Bio Energy Nergigante eats help with the birth of Nergi's species, obtaining genetic material necessary to create a new creature that can target specific species of Elder Dragons.
i learn alot from this monster hunter youtube video..... thanks XD
Whatever you upload, JoJo or not, it's still technically a JoJo reference. Life itself is a JoJo reference.
Breathing is a jojo reference
Haha, so funny!
Seriously fuck off, you haven't been funny for years.
Breathing is a Demon Slayer reference
Didn’t expect to see you here
Just Some Guy without a Mustache your everywhere
I like the implication that each spike must serve as an energy store, otherwise young wouldnt be able to grow. Imagine storing your fat cells in your hair, then pulling it out and throwing it at people when you get into fights. That is how the Nergigante do.
Can the next one be about Kirin? Hearing you try to explain the nature behind that thunder pony would be extremely fascinating.
Wait is the reason nerg is so good at dealing with elders is because it’s just extremely aggressive with insane amounts of physical power? It makes sense. Nerg is probably the most physically powerful elder for its size
Hey , Don't Give Him That Much Credits for playing dead........That Gypceros ( Yes That one......the flail chicken one) even knows how to play dead.
I love that a person as passionate as you started making videos about this wonderful saga, thanks for the consistent quality content and keep it up, cheers!
Do radobaan next!
whew!! i was so scared this video took all the talking points from the video i'm making. this is really well done. i had no idea about the whole nergigante reproductive cycle o__O
Make more of these pls!
I love this series so much
Over 500 hours of monster hunter world and my jaw is on the floor.
