glad to see a reactor who still remembers Vai and Satriani. This has a total Surfing with the Alien type of vibe for me. It's a fair bit different from their normal compositions, but also pretty indicative of their talent level.

You got it straight away- layering of the instruments and interconnected. Kanami, the lead guitarist composes this stuff- she is a genius. Their music is a true mix of all genres rock and metal, but with that Band-Maid touch.

Thanks for checking out this phenomenal band. This is indeed a great song. They've been around for close to 10 years, and they have TONS of material. Here's the thing though - their material varies wildly in terms of style and genre. What never changes is the quality. Their vocalist is great too. They are mostly hard rock, not metal but they can veer into and out of styles several times even within the same song. What I'm getting at, is that it'll take many songs before you really grasp the full scale of their capabilities. Welcome to the land of the maidiac.

Check out Blooming and Warning MVs, and the live video with Manners and Black Hole to get a sense of the variety. You'll notice that the songwriting is where they really stand out.

I love it when you can hear that the bass is almost playing it's own song, and one of the guitars is almost playing their own song but all these songs have this interweaving thing that they do and make ... make *THIS."* Yup. You've pretty much summed it up.
You make an interesting comparison to Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. Kanami Tōno is the lead guitar and composer. She has mentioned Carlos Santana as an inspiration, and that's more obvious in some of her other songs. She's mentioned Eddie Van Halen, Larry Carlton, and Steve Lukather (among others) as well. Piano was her first instrument, and I would assume she played the piano backing track too.

[Uh, yeah, always, every day]; (b) "They'll never last -- chicks have no stamina" [Gee, it seems like they have stamina, to the tune of 21-28 songs (averaging a bit over four minutes each) in their normal show, and a Japanese periodical said (I'm just quoting) that they work at their craft 350 days a year, 6-12 hours a day]. Not so much a metal band, Band-Maid don't stick to any genre. Primarily hard-rock but you will hear punk, pop-punk, metal, jazz, funk, blues, groove and prog from them. Often mixed into one song. A good video to see a range of what they do is the two in one of "Manners" & "Black Hole". (Its live but during covid so no audience). "Manners" is bluesy groove. "Black hole" is 220bpm barely restrained chaos (some say punk-prog). Either way, they have an almost 10 year back catalogue to discover! Great review see you soon!

This small Finnish underground project that somehow managed to snatch the two guys from Wintersun and get this badass hot chick to sing for them? They're trying to combine orchestral music with folk, rock and metal. Ridiculous! What are they thinking? They'll never make it big.🙂

I love Queen, Guns N' Roses, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, etc, but watching Band Maid perform live completely hooked me. They have so much fun on stage, and each member has enough skill to lead a band on their own. It blows me away how amazing this group of ladies is. I really recommend listening to more songs, and definitely experience the vocals. When you listen to more of their stuff, you understand more that there's really no band to compare it to. They're so original in the way that every song is almost completely different from genre to playing style, yet you can instantly tell it's them because of their sound. When you can go from sounding like Simple Plan to sounding like Metallica to sounding like Van Halen the Taylor Swift all on one album; it all sounds different, but despite the fact that each member switches their sound up for each song, you can tell it's them. The songwriting is immaculate.

    Bearded mate!
Greetings from another bearded (white goatee actually!) old French geezer living in Shizuoka City under the benign care of Mount Fuji!
A lot (and many more will come as their following is truly unheard of even f they are still unknown in too many parts of the world) commentators (including some real major and faithful ones) will have by now made tons of comments!
The interesting thing is that you started with their newest composition (they have composed 98% of their songs since 2016) a rare instrumental one (although they said they will produce more. Their catalogue is mind-blowing for a band that will celebrate its 10th Anniversary next year!
All these girls come from the countryside (but have moved to Tokyo long ago) with very different upbringings and characters. But they are like true sisters. Do not be fooled by their maid attire gimmick, they rock into your face although they are impossible to classify. Kanami, the lead guitarist and main composer counts Carlos Santana and Eddie Van halen among her influences but you rightly pointed she sounded at times like Satriani and Vai. She has had a classical upbringing since the age of 4 and composes everything on the piano before transcribing it to her guitar. All the effects and arrangements and added instruments are of her making.
Misa, the bassist admires Jimi Hendrix among others and is also a multi instrumentalist. She plays a 5-string bass in all modes from picking, sliding, slapping to tapping. She studied together with Akane, the drummer, also a multi instrumentalist at the famed Tokyo School of Music. Both of them have a classical and jazz musical education.
Miku, the rhythm guitarist and founder of the band could not play a note until 8 years ago until Kanami told her she would teach her. Presently she sends her her part and tells her to "go on with it", so confident she is that Miku can perform now.
Miku had the idea to create this all female rock band with Maids outfits (maid costumes are popular with employees at Maid cafes and cos play events). She recruited Kanami first through the Internet. Kanami introduced her to Misa who introduced Akane.
Saiki, the singer, who is not featured here as these instrumentals are also used in live concerts to give her a welcome break during stage marathons featuring 16 to 24 songs including a couple of instrumentals and a couple of acoustic when performing inside Japan. Saiki was actually recruited by Miku who realized that her voice did not suit well their rock style, although she is a superb harmonizer to Saiki's voice. Miku does have a few songs of her own she also performs on stage. Last but not least she writes 90% of their lyrics. A busy girl!
As I said before, they are simply impossible to classify as they play anything from ballads to metal going through hard rock and jazz.
You will get tons of recommendations especially live concerts, but you might do better by first going through Warning (video version), Blooming (video version), Daydreaming (video version), Freedom (live), Domination (live), Influencer (Video version), Don't be long instrumental, Onset instrumental, and in any video or live versions: Choose me, Real Existence, Dice, Manners, and so on!
Some commentators will regularly come to you from now on including Gary Holloway, Davey Boyd, Gerard Mercier, BM 4-Life, Tom Clark, Bruno Bryant, Shredawg and many more!
May I suggest you dive into the following Japanese bands (there are too many good ones to introduce!):
    -Asterism
    -Sokoninaru
    -Glim Spanky
    That is for a start!
Take good care of yourself (ves)!
    Best regards,
    Robert-Gilles Martineau

@@TheKillogicEffect Always a pleasure to help! Japan (and Asia) are the new gold mine when it comes to hard rock~metal. I can assure yo have fallen into a bottomless Dragon hoard labyrinth/rabbit hole!
As for Japan I have lived in Shizuoka City for 46 years. Although I will never ignore my French roots (that doe help in Japan as its inhabitants have an inordinate love for anything French, although we do not always deserve it!). Interestingly enough this very city (750000 souls) is a bit of a rock music desert with only two small live houses. BUT in the same Shizuoka Prefecture (Shizuoka City is the capital) we have regular concerts of all kinds near Mount Fuji in Fuji City, and most important, the main Japanese musical instruments factories (Yamaha, Kawai, etc) are located in Hamamatsu City (including a superlative music instruments museum!)in the western part of Shizuoka Prefecture! Tokyo is only one hour bullet train away so no problem!
Looking forward to your next reactions!
      Best regards,
      Robert-Gilles (Martineau)

BAND-MAID’s category? It’s BAND-MAID. As you get into this pigeon hole you will understand there is no other similar band or artist.
