I am 75 and today have listened to at least 10 "pods" reacting to "Too Much Heaven". Every one to a person was overwhelmed, speechless, dumbfounded and so much more with the incredible sound of the brothers. You are missing out if you don't seek out all their music.
And the desperation, too. "Sampling" (theft), "Auto tune" (couldn't sing in the first place), and disgusting lyrical content (violence against women, etc.) The industry needs to clean its own house first and look to its audience for help.
The first time I heard this song in the 70s I was driving. I had to pull off of the road and cry, it touched my heart so much. We were blessed to have the Bee Gees back then.
The BeeGees donated the proceeds and royalties from this song to Unicef and I believe the song earned more than $11 million dollars in publishing royalties for the charity. I grew up with the BeeGees and have loved them since the mid 60s. I'm now 67 and still love them. They are the most amazing singers and songwriters. Great reaction.. I suggest listening to Fanny Be Tender With My Love and How Can You Mend A Broken Heart.
4 brothers, the youngest and sang on his own. His name was Andy The lead singer here is Barry Gib with his twin brothers singing back up. Barry, the oldest is is still with us, but the twins, Robin and Maurice are singing with the Angel's now as well as Andy the youngest. This was back when music touched the soul. It was real and makes a person spiritual.
The Bee Gees "To Love Somebody". You will hear a different side of their voices. Everyone, including me, love their voices like this but I think the older stuff is amazing also.
They're singing in a falsetto. Meaning high pitched. Some songs they did they sounded different. Their voices are very similar no matter what keys they sing in. It's why they blend so well.
I kinda disagree. Their falsettos were similar, especially when they sang together, but their chest voices were quite distinct, making it easy to tell the difference between them, with Robin's being particularly different from Maurice's and Barry's. Maurice was also quite different from the other two in that his chest voice was a lot deeper and, to my ear, much richer, but I think one of the reasons he never became a "front man" for the group (something he regretted a lot and for which he sometimes resented Barry and Robin) was that his chest voice often made him sound like a stereotypical impression of a generic "Beatle." Not that he really sounded like any one of the Beatles, but rather like someone doing a basic "Beatles" impression, and Barry's and Robin's voices set them apart more from the Beatles. That said, there were a number of songs Maurice sang lead on, not the least of which was "Closer than Close," one of their better later songs, and if you ever listen to the three of them just talking, like in an interview, Maurice's voice just has a satisfying depth to it that neither of the other two had/have. I find Maurice a real pleasure to listen to (not that I don't like listening to Barry or Robin, but I think you know what I mean).
