    I have two ‘dilemmas’ in spring, I never know what to wear when it’s raining especially footwear and my outfits either look too dressed up or not dressed up enough in the daytime.

      Not sure where you live, but I’ve recently got an eddie bauer black trench coat, it’s waterproof and windproof, im pleasantly surprised with how it works so well with all kinds of outfit, even on top of blazers! It’s black and subtle (doesn’t have too much of that “mountain gear” look but does the job to protect me from the rainy and windy weathers in canadian spring!
      For shoes, consider those black rubber boots with the glossy/shiny finish, ankle length or mid calf, i feel like those look so cool and goes with many styles too!
      (Sorry for my English)

      Spring is like adolescence. It’s just an awkward, beautiful transition and there is no way to get it perfect every day, but summer is on the other side.

    It would be so interesting if you did a video in which both you and your mom (or someone your mom’s age) wear similar outfits to demonstrate age-appropriate adjustments to optimize the intended style. More tips on choosing socks- color, sock style, sock material- to pair with different styles of pants or skirts and shoes would be helpful. Thank you. Your entire channel is a styling master class!

      @@deborahgardner9489 This comment is really interesting to me. I'm 53 and have not seen a single outfit on Lydia that I wouldn't feel appropriate for my age. In fact I've generally been struck by how women Lydia's age seem to have embraced "dressing like grown ups" as fashionable. Watching younger women wear trousers and blazers so earnestly is a little thrilling. What I've learned by watching this is how to choose more modern pairings. Her video on 'traditional' v 'modern' is a master class in this.... anyway I'd love to know what other people are seeing here that's prompting the concern about her examples not being suitable for your age?

    • @CuratedClothier
      @CuratedClothier 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@MichelleReen Absolutely agree. It makes me wonder if we think "age appropriate" has to look traditional or dated or something. I wish she'd do the video suggested but with them both in the same outfits.

    My biggest style dilemma currently is feeling like my personal style and the way I want to dress (very classic and cool: blazers, flats, loafers, trousers, etc.) do not suit my lifestyle ( stay at home mom, living in the country, very casual lifestyle). Do I need to adjust my personal style to suit my lifestyle, or should I just dress the way I love even though everyone else around me always dresses much more casual? Do i have a fantasy style that i need to give up, or should i just try to get more comfortable wearing things that feel very dressy, like loafers and blazers?

    • @Ingrid0410
      @Ingrid0410 5 месяцев назад +1

      Great question Tory! Its mostly hot here in California but I love blazers! So I wear them, then often take them off when shopping or eating out. When I get home its off with everything, and on comfy sweats and oversized t shirt. Im certain most youbtubers do the same. Their videos are going out looks

    In my country we have a surprising hot spring with 30°C . It is so difficult to style mornings (10°) and the rest of the day. Anyway the only thing in these new trends which I can say is I don't understand why is everything so masculine. Even though I love wide leg trousers I just wonder how all women's bodies are covered with a lot of oversized fabrics, it's tooo much, and gone too far ... Wordrobe is like it's from the Men's section , and Mary Janes are the shoes wich grandmas wear in our villages for being in the garden. Not attractive to anyone , no matter the trend.

      The reason we're having a particularly hot spring - with some cold bashings - is because El Niño is still very active through June. Then, thank goodness, a neutral weather phase sets in and finally El Niña brings refreshing coolness in summer.
      It was also very hot here last autumn due to the El Niño weather phenomenon, with ~12° in the morning and 27° in the afternoon. Tried and tested outfits which worked for me were; Skirt + sleeveless blouse and flats. Add wool knitwear for those chillington mornings and a large wool scarf to protect yourself from potential wind. And of course the Tod bag comes in handy in the hot afternoon to store all your morning wools 😊

    Very informative and hope you don't mind me adding; in respect to oversized shirts came across 'a hack' that actually works quite well by -- weaving and applying a large safety pin to the inside of the garment at the back, which in turn creates temporary gathers and an illusion of an hour glass shape. (In other words less fabric.) *Note: Placement will depend upon your body shape. i.e.: Bust/torso length/how you plan to wear it.

      One of my 3 words is 'youthful' (I'm toying with funky too, but is the childlike essence I'm looking for), so interesting to think the Maty Janes give that aspect. I've never really liked ballet flats - they seem too grown-up for me, so now I understand why it's Mary Janes for the win for me!

    • @torytate7260

      I am also in the process of bringing a little more femininity into a very classic style! I have found that adding pieces in styles that you already wear and love, but in more feminine colors, fabrics, or prints, works really well. For example, if you love button ups, try some in silk or lace, maybe pink or purple, or floral or Polka dot! Not all at once, obviously 😂

    Thank you so much, Lydia! After watching this video, I tried to "shop" my closet to find clothing that would pair well with long wool trousers. After trying several t-shirts, sweaters, and denim button-downs, I finally reached for a sweater and trench coat my grandfather owned. My grandmother gave me a few of his belongings after he passed in 2016. She read an article about oversized trenches becoming the "thing" for women, and I am a similar size. The trench is from Brooks Brothers and remarkably similar to the Sezane Clyde, with the same lining (though not on the cuffs). Anyway, despite buying myself clothes, I pulled them out, and they work best. Thankful and frustrated. LOL.

    Dilemma 1, staying warm in Spring; 🌸🥶🌧
    I swear by a loose fitted fleeced sweater over a tee or blouse, a pair of wide leg trousers and the absolute must: a blanket 100% wool scarf, and a trench. +Tennis shoes. Tried & tested. This will keep you warm with 12° with side rain. And when suddenly the sun comes out and adds 30° in a minute, you throw everything in your big huge monster Tod bag. 🤘

    Please do a video on “the best must have piece” in varying categories, for example I HAVE BEEN on the hunt for a good comfy fit jeans and see a ton in your videos- particularly white/light jeans but never am able to find something exactly similar in Canada or India. My point is pieces from mid range brands that are available across all regions like Levi’s that have durable quality instead of just HM. So different categories I can think of are-wide comfy fit jeans, trench coats, must have 3-5 pairs of trousers in terms of style, versatility, color, pattern, price points and quality, footwear, etc

      I totally agree, not looking for haute-couture expensive but definitely fed up of hm and their quality or sizing issues, some of their products no doubt are good but bottoms for me are always a miss due to their sizing which keeps on changing from style to style, and don’t even get me started on their sweaters and sweatshirts- horrendous quality, everytime I put them in the wash, it’s a gamble! 😢

    The white blouse you're wearing is ageing in my opinion, the gold buttons are way too ladylike, I love Chanel-style jackets, etc. but I buy them without gold buttons for a fresher, younger look. You are young and sometimes I think you're way too classic for your age. There'll be plenty of time for you to wear very classic/old-style pieces when you have wrinkles and flabby bits, enjoy your youth while you can!

    My remaining question would be any tips for petites? I bought an oversized denim shirt this week, a size down from my usual size, when I tried it on, hubby just laughed at me and said it looked like I was playing dress-up, so back it went, and a smaller size arrived, which is as small as I can go round the chest to fit the girls in but still was big on the sleeves. I think a roll-up will handle that though!

    Tsk... My main issue is that I don't have volume behind hyahayahaua my bottom....... So I'm always trying to camouflage.... And the oversized look just kills me.... I really like the look but can't wear..... Only when it's cooler I can think about trying, because I can wear a long blazer to hide the diaper butt look.... So anything cropped I also avoid.... Sigh........

      Have you tried wearing skirts and dresses? They don’t accentuate the posterior but rather glide over it no matter the shape 😊

    I think another piece of advice is do not follow the influencer trend by wearing floral sleeveless dress during spring. That’s more for summer!

    My main dilemma is that i want to buy high quality pieces, sustainable and well made, but i’m never sure it will be worth the price, and the hustle of getting things online, and the little choice in boutiques… often i resort to HM, despite my goal.
