How Final Fantasy 16 Is Avoiding Final Fantasy 15's MISTAKES

  • FF16 may make mistakes - that's always a potential danger with pretty much every single game in existence, regardless of the franchise or the developer - but if it does, they will be new mistakes.
And if nothing else, it's incredibly reassuring to know that the major blunders the developer made with Final Fantasy 15 won't be rearing their head again.

One thing u enjoyed in 15 was the banter with the boys. You really did feel like you're on a journey with friends. Clive on his own in worried it's s just going to feel like him by himself and occasionally companions come in. This does make it more on edge because they can easily kill any of the companions off or turn them into villains later. Just don't want that lovely dread feeling of getting to point A to point B. A lot of dirty narrative games have some kind of companion, like Spider-Man has Miles or some doctor, Kratos has his son, Zelda you have various companions in and out. If FF16 feels kinda like Zelda in terms of solo journey with the odd companion I think that's fine how it'll be done.

I kinda miss the old Final Fantasy games that I grew up with, they were lots of fun, tears and silly laughs. There were times i and my friends were all looking forward to what song the next Final Fantasy would deliver.
A lot of iconic and emotional moments in the old Final Fantasy games, the death of Aeris, the joy of seeing Golden Saucer for the first time, the cute monkey like Zidane and Vivi and their funny banters, the dance at the ballroom between Rinoa and Squall, the kissing scene between Yuna and Tidus. The stories were complex yet easy to follow, you didnt need 400 DLCs and 300 spin offs to be immersed in the story, the dialogues were fun and natural in FF7-10, they spoke without big words and rarely were there heavy dialogues that made you think hard. The old FF1-12 were not about trends (fast pace battle, open world, heavy and super complex multi episode stories across multiple media).
I still can literally cry whenever I play FF7 and listen to the bg music, nostalgic, haunting and memorable. I dont know why the newer Final Fantasy games feel overly complicated, heavy and lack of memorable musics and songs. They just don't resonate and speak to me.
Eyes on You, Melodies of Life and Suteki Da Ne still play vividly in my head. I think Final Fantasy franchise has slowly lost its charms, it feels very cold and forgettable. I gave up on Final Fantasy after FF13. 😢

@@DoomiePookie I don’t know if you play the game yet, but the side quest are fantastic and even though it’s technically not an open world in a lot of ways, it actually is because you can go back to any part of the game.
So it’s not like Final Fantasy seven remake for once you leave an area you can never go back there. Like basically, once you unlock a spot in the game or a town to explore you can always go back to that zone unless it’s a specific story be that keeps you from going there temporarily.
But for instance, you can go back till like one of the first place in the game when you’re like level 40 way deep into the storyline and go explore some of the first caverns in towns that you are locked.
I would say it’s sort of halfway between a open world. It’s basically done kind of like the old Zelda games did where it’s broken up in zones and you pull up a map to go to the immediate area that you want to fast travel to and then within those zones you can also fast travel in those areas. So I would say it’s honestly pretty close to being open world like 80% just imagine if like there’s certain gates in between areas.

16 was by far the worst FF I have played to date, the story was boring, the side quests were predictably dull. the ending was absolutely appalling, no thought at all, so predicable and I genuinely didn't care for any of the characters other than Jill. combat was okay, but ridiculously easy, full playthrough of all content including hunts and side quests in 32 hours, and didn't die once. that's not me gloating, its just so easy to overkill everything with the summon abilities, and the story was so dull, I have zero interest replaying the game on the harder difficulty. waited years, and I am so disappointed. I actually enjoyed 15 far far more. Hopefully 7 part 2 makes up for this absolute shit show of a game.

The naysayers who complains about not being turnbase or not being able to swap characters has no idea what type of story and tone they made for FF16. This is the first rated R mature cinematic Final Fantasy designed to keep you immerse all throughout the runtime. Having turnbase would break the tone and immersion. Imagine Silent Hill was remade to turnbase, the tone of the game will be destroyed. And for the swapping characters, this is an intimate story about Clive, not anyone else. You cannot write a well written intimate story when you are an omnipotent reader with knowledge beyond the main character. One of the close example is the Dragonborn for Skyrim or Geralt from The Witcher.

This might be splitting hairs here for the purposes of the video, but I would personally make the argument that FFXV's problem isn't that its story is incoherent. Actually, I think the base story in the main game makes sense for the most part. The problem is in the game's failure at providing emotional setup and payoff.
You don't REALLY need the DLCs, the anime, or the movie to understand the story. The attack on Insomnia is explained, even if you don't necessarily have the details about how it happened. And while the DLCs are helpful for understanding character development and motivations, they aren't needed to understand the basic overarching plot.
IMO the reason FFXV's story fails is that while it tells you what you need to know to follow the story, it doesn't bother putting in the effort to make you care. It tells you Noctis lost his father and his home, but it doesn't show you his connection to Insomnia or his bond with his Dad. The story tells you (albeit vaguely) what happened to Ardyn, but it does so in a poorly edited exposition dump that can be easily glossed over. The story tells you Noctis cares about Lunafreya, but shows you nothing about their relationship or why they're so important to each other. And the story tells you Niflheim is bad, but the people in power get like one scene in the game, and you not only never get to see the Empire get destroyed, but you don't get to see the place in its prime, either... so again, why should you care?
FFXV tells you a lot of things, but all the action happens outside Noctis's perspective. And where's the fun in that?

For all the problems 15 had, the endgame dungeons were the best part about that game imo. The fact it's been confirmed nothing like those will exist kinda sucks. @JuanJorn.Channel that's kind of my point though and what my concern is. Traditionally, in any game, endgame means new and optional content, typically in the form of new areas and bosses, that cannot be completed until your character reaches a certain threshold. NG+, the leader boards (which can only be done on harder difficulties), and timed modes are literally just replaying the story content with an OP character. The fact thats the selling point only lends credence to the fact there's a lack of optional content. I'm sure the game as a whole will be fantastic and I'm sure I'll love it. It's just the lack of that optional endgame content is a letdown. But hey, I appreciate them being open about it before launch at least.

I genuninely cannot stand how many final fantasy fans claim its older games are "open world". ALL FF games are linear, and how intense that it varies SLIGHTLY. Just because you have a world map does not mean you have an open world. From FF1 all the way to day elements of the game locked behind plot progression. Whether its vehicles, or even being able to explore a town or past a certain point, you are always locked behind the plot more or less. At least until the last half / 3/4 of the game of the game.
Some best examples are FFI, FFIV, FFV, FFVI, FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX and so forth. The only 2 FF games that slightly allowed "open world" concepts from the get go were final fantasy 2 and 3. And even then, not in its true scope.
And honestly, FFX is pretty linear but has one of the best stories in all FF. If you consumed the anime, book, and movie ( and yes those shouldn't be prerequisites to enjoy something) but if you did then Royal Edition is honestly pretty dang good from a plot perspective.

Action combat is too chaotic and messy, the camera moving around everywhere and the screen filled with flashes of magic and numbers. I mean seriously, in FFXV there is a new ending in the novel! How dedicated can you be to look for different medias just to get the whole FFXV story!

Keep in mind FF XV didn't have a steady team, direction, or fanbase. FF XV could've been something special if they showed more love but of course people are so damn impatient and want to jump the ban wagon. It was just practically living on hope. Personally if It was tetsuya vision it would've been a lot different than this but it is what it is. FF XVI will be amazing just because it's Yoshi P and he did and a wonderful team saved one of the most amazing MMOs this world has to experience thus far! I don’t buy day one games anymore but i can happily say I am buying the deluxe ver no hesitation and yeah it could be a shitty game but I highly doubt it just because a dev who is confident with trailers, gameplay, and advertisement! Shows they're highly invested into this product and I am as well. I can see the memes now

i wasn’t aware that FFXV was so problematic lol. i love the game, have played through it a ton, and still find it incredible. i had no idea that the production team was struggling so bad

The story was obviously very problematic as said in the video but i also found the combat to be so incredibly stale and boring, especially compared to other final fantasys. I’m just glad that some of these newer releases have shown us that final fantasy can still have engaging combat without a turnbased system

7:06 Please watch Final Fantasy The Spirits Within. Then tell me the essence of Final Fantasy is a nebulous concept. As it not feeling or looking like a FF was a primary issue. Am i going to play 16, of course its Final Fantasy. I have no doubt that'll it'll be a good game. But there is a long list of characteristics, themes & elements used to describe or define FF. Acting like their aren't is just disingenuous.
