  • For 2008 - 2011 Ford Focus.
2009 Ford Focus had an issue of not being able to shift into other gears after being parked. Problem turned out to be a disconnected shift cable in the floor shifter for the automatic transmission. The bushing that connected the cable to the shifter disintegrated and the cable became disconnected. While we waited for parts, making a video of the repair was thought to be a good idea since we couldn't find one for this car. We had already disassembled the console and the shifter assembly, but thought we would at least make the video for the assembly process in hopes this will also help someone with the disassembly as well.
    Update 5/22/2023:
The green bushing we bought from Amazon failed. It fell apart after just 2 months. We reordered another more expensive bushing from an online bushing seller that warranties their product to be as good or better than the OEM. Here is the link.

Go to bushingfix.com and look for your car. They're more expensive than the cheap green one I originally bought, but that one failed after 2 months. Pay the extra to get a good quality one from bushingfix.com

on my 2001 maxima had something simular, except the cable didn't get disconnected, its symptom was almost like a bad Neutural Safty Switch. because put in park come back later , it wouldn't start unless you jiggle shifter or move to p->N -> P or start in N. this is beause the bushing caused a slop in the linkage and it thought it was in R not P. getting to it in the maxima looks to be a little bit easier then the FOCUS
