🥒 ABOUT BEFRS:
Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but currently call Vietnam home. I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.
If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture.

Hi I here 1st
The food look dilicious 🤤🤤
HOW WAS THIS 4 HRS AGO
6:17
OMG, Wellcome to Lạng Sơn, VIỆT NAM.
When Sonny said, "Can you do my wedding?", that was the most heartwarming compliment they could get!
Absolutely 🤗
Dudeeee you are righttt. I was thinking what happens to Sonnys wedding, there will be food items from whole Vietnam 💪😁😍
He should keep his words!
I thought the same.
Different cultures like this this is what make VN is still a treasure to travel to...unlike its neighboring country trying to erase minority culture is unimaginable ...
Actually sad this series is over. Hands down one of the "Best Ever Food Review" pun intended... Thank you all for sharing beautiful cultures and beautiful people. Bless... annnnndddd Peace!
@@evanevanevan53 He means its the end of the Northern highlands series of videos. Hes already done a series on the central highlands as well, and the Mekong Delta. Perhaps he could visit Laos next, or cambodia, once Corona is over.
@@MethaneHorizon u mean theres no more vietnamese? Vid so u mean we must wait until Corona is over? Then he upload another vid
@@kharismajaya8253 no, just no more in this series in the Northern Highlands. It focused on the Hmong, Thai, and other non Viet cultures in the north.
How is it over? He keeps making videos
@@MethaneHorizon oh man it would be very extreme in those countries…. It’s rough over there
I love how the Hmong lady stood out in her beautiful bright dress.
You too make too much money for Hmong Vietnam
As a Vietnamese person born outside of Vietnam, it has been my dream to visit the motherland and retrace my roots. This RUclips series is literally my dream coming true. Best damn food show on RUclips!

"You are unstoppable as a man with another consenting adult" you really have a way with words Sonny like no other 🤣.
An amazingly likeable character. It didn't even bother me that much when he kept coughing over the food after every shot of corn spirit. He is truly like a big fun kid but obviously very intelligent and empathic.

I want to visit ur home town once n lik to enjoy ur traditional food
sad that u dun keep ur culture
I just can't say enough good things about this show. This is the closest thing to therapy I have. I'm a total travel bug but I'm stuck studying for a medical degree and I just can't express my gratitude enough for the chance to live vicariously through Sonny. Also Sonny is getting remarkable opportunities that as an average traveler I'm not sure I'd know how to gain on my own or in my own native language but him and his team are just remarkable.
I agree, but it's time to say it; it's awkward as fuck when Sonny cuts from an awe-inspiring video to young women doing a sexy dance...
getting remarkable that as an average traveler.
hahaha
Those foods are absolutely amazing and seems delicious. I've never thought that Vietnamese foods are like these. I feel hungry. Respect to Vietnamese people from Iran.
Andrew is like the good cop, and he interacts with the people with their language as best he can. Sonny just speaks english and there's silence
They're waiting for the translator. It's just edited for this effect.
I’m insanely impressed that there are legit zero flies buzzin around that spread of deliciousness!
I believe it’s too cold. At least at the time of filming.
That's because that food is delicious and flys like to eat shit. Man I wish I could try that food.
They dispose of animal carcasses well. Without rotting meat to lay eggs on, the adult flies have no way to reproduce.
U open my eyes... Amazingly no flies at all...
Yeah was thinking the same.👍
SONNY represents a human being with Great taste for other cultures food and traditions....SO MUCH respect for SONNY and his buddy......THE WORLD should be more like SONNY
RUclipsr cinematography never ceases to amaze me. I'd love to know how they plan some of it. Like theyre sitting in the car "alright lets get this drone shot." The logistics of filming at this level is so crazy and all it adds up to a beautiful story being told.
True true

Sonny's jokes makes this show so much better 😂 Love this guy
“As a man with another consenting adult” I love this man, so respectful. True gentleman.

I want to thank you and Andrew for the videos about the Hmong people. My neighbors across the road are Hmong and I wanted to know about their culture. I didn't realize that there are different distinct groups. Y'all make the earth seem like a smaller place when you do videos like this.
I love the faces the interpreter makes each shot she downs in the big meal. She is not used to corn alcohol at all. Definitely worth watching her expressions!
Came here to make this exact comment. Her expressions were gold.

Being able to experience all of that culture in a different country would be so amazing...You my friend are living the dream
Well....all you really need is a passport, some vacation time and $5000. That's it!!
The $5k includes ticket money. I spent less than $2800 on 5 weeks vacation in Southeast Asia when I was single. It might not work for you though, I don't drink, don't smoke and don't go to bars.....just straight up eating all kinds of food and traveling to every city and countryside I came across. No itinerary and no agenda. Go with the flow. Best trip of my life. Guest house are cheap. Food is cheap and you can rent a bike.

Keep it up for discovering unique food that all food lover haven’t seen before.
yea i knew that braised pork belly is going to be good. they cooked it for soooo longgggggggggg
Man what a fantastic journey. Trip of a lifetime. To finish it off sitting with the locals for a feast was just perfect.
Loved the video. I work with a lot of Vietnamese people and they ALWAYS share different Vietnamese dishes with me. I'm Latino, so they like testing me with very off the wall recipes. I love the people, I love the food, most of all, I love the culture.
Muchas gracias from a Viet living in Vietnam. We love latino culture too, especially the music. May I ask if you find that we some similarities? If not please don’t feel offensive.

1:27 her smile is so pure. reminds me of my grandmother.
The braised/steamed pork belly dish at the end looks like a local version of a classic Chinese dish. The melt-in-the-mouth texture is as a result of the 3-4hrs of steaming breaking down the connective tissue into gelatin - YUM!
Probably my favourite BEFRS series so far. I love the close look at the cultures and tribes, its more than just going and eating exotic food (which i still find entertaining), its a look at a whole other way of life and traditions. My only complaint is that each episode isnt longer :)
Sonny , if you ever want to see interesting PA dutch food and hunting culture here, let me know! We will happily host you and take you out and cook classic recipes!
food, people, culture, nation...
this is what this show is all about...

I just started watching this series and got hook. I was born in Vietnam but left when I was 17, didn't have chances to explore much of Vietnam, especially tribal people. Thank you for making this series, I love it so much. Hopefully I will return to Vietnam when my life is settled.
I really love the diversity of the cultures. I think I should start vlogging from now on for the love of being a human and being given the chance to exist. I don't get why we should hate each other just because of our differences. I think it's really amazing to embrace each other and just be kind.
I'm from Vietnam but I only heard about this and never see it before, thanks for sharing. It is amazing
I really love my country culture, I been living here in 🇺🇸 for most of my childhood but still remember most of the holiday celebrations.Love this channel and TY much for sharing

Hi Sonny and team, as a Vietnamese, I'd like to thank you guys so much for such great videos about my Vietnam.
I don't know how life would be without these amazing videos... a while ago, I was anxious and stressed. now I feel so refreshed. Thanks Sonny.
Sonny, I’m from England and I love your show and I’d love even more to come with you on a food journey. It’s a bucket list thing for me.
I followed this journey from day 1, as a Hmong immigrant to the US, these videos makes me appreciate where and what my parents went through when they were in the hills and mountains of Thailand. Much love Sonny
Hey Sonny, thank you for always bringing laughter, diversity, and cultural awareness from all around the world. Every time I watch your videos (particularly towards the end) when you give your overall summary of your experience, I always feel slightly more educated about the different ethnicity from all over the world that are different and sometimes even alike of that of my own.
Cheers!
i love those people.. may be rich or poor.. but they are always super clean colorful and good humble behavior..
I've really enjoyed this series. Not only because Andrew is a joy as a cohost but because the tribes are so incredibly beautiful inside and out. Even the above camera shots of the villages and markets were stunning.😊
Andrew is right there with Calvin and Thuyen as my favorite co-host. Nam and Thuc are up there as well. I agree that the camera shots were great. It was amazing to see their colorful garments all matching as well. The food looked so delicious
I must admit these are beautiful people full of tradition and culture. . Thanks for showing us other beautiful people on this earth.

Many of the foods are what I had at feasts during my childhood. The pork belly is called "flipped meat" where I come from because it's flipped before serving. The five colours sticky rice is a staple for feasts honouring ancesters. The crispy roasted suckling pig is also a specialty. Great video!

Thank you so much for lighting up the many unique ethnic groups out to the world to see. Beautiful sceneries and especially delicious food!! Thank you! This area has a lot of my people, the Hmong. Depending on where they resides, their recipes and food are slightly different from 1 location to other. In America, we have fusions and combinations with many modern and westerners.

Its wholesome that his female translator who came from another tribe is also there to share the meal with everyone
I've loved this series, seeing the different People's of Vietnam, their customs and food has been fantastic. More Please :)
There are so many places in Vietnam that I haven't ever been to. This show takes me across Vietnam and it is an eye opener for me to learn the unique Vietnamese cultural diversity.
I came across this video by chance; so happy that you featured "khau nhuc" meat (flipped meat). "Khau nhuc" is a pretty awesome dish of Tay people, being one-forth Tay I've always wondered how the meat is prepared, with all the minced herbs, frying and simmering. I've been told the dish is eaten in some parts of China as well.
I only get to eat "khau nhuc" once a year when my family travelled back to my mother's hometown in Lang Son. Crave the tasty, fragrant, melting feeling so much. Thanks for sharing wonderful footage and best wishes on your food adventure.
Sonny I love how you are genuinely respectful and kind towards people of all cultures. Keep up your great work and God bless!
I have traveled to many areas of Southeast Asia and have always enjoyed encountering the hill tribes Hmong, Thai Yai, Lao Dum, Lisu, Lahu, Karen.
