    Chocolate & pipe tobacco for me. It truly is lovely stuff. It really annoys me when people instantly want compare it to the old version. Chances are that it was so long ago they wont discern any real difference unless they're Ralfy lol; and the 2016 distillate will still be coming out of casks up until 2031. In my opinion if you want to be a Billy Walker fan boy, buy a Glenallachie ! Great vid Erik. :)

      The last vintage I had years back was pretty bad. Had to start mixing it with coke to get it down. 😁 Guess there's been some drastic improvement.

    Quite a few mixed comments on the 15. I have yet to try it. Erik has yet to stear me wrong. The price might be high, but I coming to terms that this is now the new tier for pricing. If the paycheck went up as much as bottle prices, then I think the complaing would be less. It's worth giving a try. Thanks Erik

    Now that you have described all of my favorite tasting notes, my morning coffee isn’t as appealing as the scotch. The 12 year is good for a daily sipper but, doesn’t come close to what you get in that 15 year. Cheers

      Agreed, in itself, the 12 is a perfectly fine whisky, but the 15 left so much more of an impression.

    Erik, I loved the 18yo Glen Dronach back in 2019! Has the whisky changed much since then?? Billy Walkers departure disturbs me. I live in UK.

      I don't have enough pre/post Billy Walker experience to tell you. It may take some time until there is enough post-Billy Walker whisky on the market to tell the difference or whether or not any differences are due to him no longer owning the distillery.

      Bill Walker sold the distillery in 2016 (7 years ago). How the hell could 12 and 15 year olds be affected THAT MUCH in such a short period of time? People talk as if as soon as Billy drove off the parking lot they started urinating in the casks.

    As of 2021, I’m pretty sure that they have introduced Chill Filtration in at least the 18 and 21.

    • @langtoun8235

      Not the case, there as been no change to their non chill filtration policy for these releases.

      That’s not what the label reflects. It does not state anywhere that is NCF.
      Like they say, if it is not on the label they can do as they need.
      No one can with 100% accuracy say that they are NCF. That’s not correct.
      As a matter of fact Glendronach reserves the right to introduce added filter layers and lower temperatures in order to stay within parameters of clarity as per their base bottlings.
      Again, the label is the contract. They are not NCF.

      I worked at Springbank distillery for 5 days in July 2023. They DO NOT cold chill filter anything. They do have a large particle filter to avoid getting chunks of sediment in it and in the bottling line if anything is seen floating in it the bottle is emptied and the large chunks are removed. I've got pictures and video to prove it.

    • @pepebruno1672
      @pepebruno1672 8 месяцев назад +2

      Hi Erik, my comments are about Glendronach, which is what the video is about, not Springbank. That said, I loved those videos of your Springbank school experience.

    Erik getting a bit too excited there. 12y is 43% not 40%, 40% is Macallan territory.
    I'd go for the quality of 1 15yo rather than 2 12yo.

    The newer 12 and 15 are simply not worth no matter the price tbh. Lots of better options out there. Said because those were wonderful before they added chillfiltration. The 18 is also not as good as before but at least it’s still delicious. I’m done buying the 12 and the 15 for good.

      For me, if a distillery botches their entry level core range, they do not deserve me spending premium price of my money on their higher age core stuff (16-21 y/o).

    The new 15 can't be compared to the old one. It's a different whisky. The 15 was discontinued in 2015 due to a lack of stock following the distillery’’s closure between 1996 and 2001 but returned in 2018 featuring both Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sweet sherry casks, where older versions used only Oloroso sherry casks.
    And we all know the charts about the age-plus in the Billy Walker era.
    He used up the old stock, made Glendronach famous and left at its quality peak. Smart. Now the threw some crucial elements for whisky enthusiasts over board (NCF, natural color). A mass market product. Sold its soul for $$$ In April 2016 to the Brown-Forman Corporation.
    I moved on.

    Was never a fan of the 15 and for sure it is not worth the price. I will not compare to previous bottlings, that would be unfair but basing your 2023 prices on amazing whisky which is no longer released, is fraudulent. I have tried 2021 Allardice 18 and it is not worth €90, let alone 150, the difference is not subtle ;)

    • @ErikWaitWhiskyStudies
      @ErikWaitWhiskyStudies  9 месяцев назад +2

      "basing your 2023 prices on amazing whisky which is no longer released, is fraudulent" WHAT? I can go to my local store and buy this whisky or find it online at a multitude of stores in California. The 15 was out of produciton but has been brought back. Scott and Bart at Scotch Test Dummies reviewed both earlier and a recent release of the 15 Year Old.

    • @NeilImmortal
      @NeilImmortal 9 месяцев назад

      @@ErikWaitWhiskyStudiesApologies, I worded my comment badly. We all know the Billy Walker releases were older whisky, those bottlings are worth the current prices. Todays bottlings are not and they are simply riding that wave despite reducing the integrity and age/quality. My favourite whisky is the Alladice but my 2021 bottle is still on the shelf after 2 years, I come back to it but it is not good, 8hrs in the glass does not tame the heat. It is awful basically.
      Get those pre 2020 bottles at auction, worth the price. 🙂but in the end it is up to the individual, if you like it buy it!
