Have a look at the Dramface article on Brown Forman and their decision to remove the non chill filtered statement on their Glendronach labels. If you believe them they were just trying to adhere to the Scotch Whisky Associations rules on chill filtration. Which are pretty clear, if you reduce the temperature from ambient and put through the filtration plant it’s chill filtered. That Macallan price is unjustifiable for a 15yo, it only encourages the others to think they can get away with it too. Having said that, I wouldn’t turn the chance to drink any of them.

My favourite 15's are Springbank 15, Glencadam 15, Glen Scotia 15, Tamdhu 15, and Glenfarclas 15. It's worth a trip to Tokyo once a year to get these at decent prices compared to dealing with patchy local supply and higher prices.

The Glenallachie 15 got incredible these past 2 years. Opened one bottled 2022 a couple weeks ago and have been loving it.
One you should try and compare to these is the Tamdhu 15. I let it breathe for a couple months and it has been making my jaw drop, incredible! It's not cheap but considering I stocked up last year on a sale, I'm pretty happy.

@@steelsteez6118 Macallan 15 fits into a luxury category nowadays given the out of reach prices. GA15 is a great dram and GD15 is even better. These two are a great economical alternative to Macallan in my opinion. I would keep one of each if my budget permitted. Having said that I thumbed my nose and got myself a Macallan 12 Sherry release to compare and just recently opened it for the holiday season and the first couple of pours have been pretty good. If I had to choose just one out of the three, I would go with Glendronach 15 if you can ignore the much debated Non-chill filtered topic. Cheers!

Great review buddy, here in the UK you can easily pick up the Glenallachie and Glendronach for £65, but the Macallan will cost you £130, so at that price, I wouldn't even entertain it, the Tamdhu 15 is also worth checking out, just a shame that Edradour haven't re-introduced the 15yr Fairy Flag because that was an outrageously good whisky, great comparisons Rob, I enjoyed the video 👍🥃

Curious How the Tamdhu 15 would stack up. Early GlenAllachie were a little hot, I have noticed each new bottling incremental improvements which I ascribe to Billy's cask management strategies with the old juice. I think the new bottlings have been in the new casks longer. I still love GD 15. It does offer more depth than the 12 and while not as good as the 18 its old retail price of $100 US was a fair price point for what you got. New retail prices are crazy. Mac 12 Sherry is almost the same price as the GD 15 so that is a no-brainer choice for the GD, GA, or Tamdhu IMHO.

I'll be honest, I had the signatory 12 I think, cost about £110 and it genuinely was so disappointing. They sell it on colour, not on taste. Sad really. Plus the Edradour spirit itself isn't too attractive on the palette as the cut is very wide and it's quite a dirty spirit. Dirty is not necessarily a negative term. It's just a very wide cut.

If you can get a bottle of Macallan Rare Cask for under $290 USD then it's really (in my opinion) the bottom floor for where Macallan starts to be amazing. The 'scoring/marking' system for whisky is awful and it needs to change across the board!
For example... I am a whisky lover and money no object, and there are many in this category.
I want to know which of those three 15 year olds is the best whisky and by what degree... regardless of price I want to know your scores on the whisky 'alone'
If you must give a second mark which includes it's value for money, then yes give it a second mark for that too!
But Rob, I want to know and I need to know you guys score for the 'whisky alone'
Then I know which one to go buy... or not to buy!
I have the 'exact' information I need... I know which is the best whisky and if it's important to me also the price... Separately please!
Murking the waters and mixing the two elements into one score is just crazy, leaving me guessing! 😨
