Just got word - yesterday (11/11/21) - that my PAPERWORK finally cleared and the supplier FWD to my Ins. Company for Prior Authorization - 7 weeks from my original F2F with my PCP to this Step with DME Local Provider!
I just found your VID this AM and it was right on point. THANX .
Stepping up from a used (2017), Craigslist "Orphan", Q6 Edge 2.0 to a Permobil M3 Corpus which might be here by the first of 2022! We at least selected the "Multiple Power Function Base " for present and future expansion as my conditions progress/deteriorate - 😁The Chair Needs to Get Better As I Get Worse!

Good news all around. To me, I think all features are invaluable. I use mine as a mobility scooter because walking is painful and shopping is painful and I find
all features of tilt, recline, legs, all extremely useful and necessary. The whole thing just seems asinine to me that someone who is permanently bound to a chair is not given these functions standard. It's really just mind bogglingly ridiculous.

  • @seanmooney3907

I had to get a chair from Medicare and they didn't approve anything but tilt and power legs because of my swelling in my legs. I am really upset I didn't get the recline feature but I need the chair for mobility so I had to accept it. I was told I could buy the seat elevator for 1500.00. Not going to happen. Thanks for the video's they really help with information. All the best, Sean

You are lucky that your people where willing to go through this for you. When I was getting my chair the guy called and said he was leaving on vacation. So i could either take what he had ordered with out even seeing me. Or i would have to wait unit he got back from vacation, then he would start the process. The first time i ever saw my chair was when they showed up at my front door with it. Hell I didn’t even get the color I wanted.

Wow! I am truly grateful that I am able to get my powered wheelchair needs fulfilled from the VA. While the process is still a process it is clearly much easier! A whole lot less layers.

now I find myself leaning to left in hunch position ouch

I hope everything works out for you Dan. It took me a little over a year to get my Edge Z going through the process you are doing. The trouble with mine was, everything got denied that I needed, tilt seating, swing away joystick, power leg rest and cushion etc because insurance deemed it "medically unnecessary." The wheelchair company took my folder and put it in the denied folder and did nothing with it. I called one year to the day to find out what was going on. I had to redo my wheelchair assessment for the third time. My wheelchair lady split everything up and then within three or four months I had the chair. So far the Edge is doing okay and the motors pull like a tractor up the steep hills where I live. My only complaint is that loading in my van can be a little tricky at times because I do not have that gyroscopic steering. I was going to pay for it out-of-pocket but, Quantum Rehab strongly recommended that I don't put it on the chair because it will not work due to the joystick. It is mainly for people that use a sip and puff or chin control. Overall, it tracks straight as an arrow with very little feedback of the joystick. It took me four years, a few written letters and a court order to get my Omega Trac paid for. That's why I waited for one year in case you are wondering.

Good to see things moving, Dan! I got everything but Recline on my chair, my seating specialist thought I needed it but my rehab hospital doesn't like to give people recline because it gets people out of position. I might still try to see if I can get it added on because when I had a hand-me-down chair with recline I often used it in conjunction with tilt and legs to stretch. I also had to pay for my seat elevator myself, but I'm grateful for the features that I have because it really makes a difference in my life. I use my seat elevator a lot for basic functioning, same with tilt and legs. There is no way my body would be able to handle not having power positioning. It's not right for anyone in a wheelchair, and especially those who need a power wheelchair to be in the same position all day I don't get why medicaid considers any of these features a luxury, for many of us that are in the chair all day these features are what enable us to function relatively well. I really hope you get a fully loaded wheelchair, you deserve it. The 4front looks really nice. I would have gotten either that or an f3, if I could have. I'm just glad they didn't stick you in an edge, I wasn't given much of a choice.
I'm pretty happy with mine though, There are a lot of things I don't like about it, but I count my blessings because even though it's not ideal, I'm still much more comfortable and less limited than I was before before and I'm beyond grateful for that.
I eventually plan on saving up and getting an offroad chair for the distances and terrain my edge can't handle, what do you reccomend.
Good luck with everything, keep on them!

Thank you for the video, I am attempting to get a new power wheelchair. Already I am running into difficulties. My Doctor has sent the proscription in and now the company. Carelinc is stating I need a medical PT evaluation. Accord to carelinc this was done a month ago. I am wondering why carelinc can not use it or maybe my doctor did not fill the form out properly. So back to the drawing board as they say. Contact the doc and see what is up. Look like this is going to be a long draw out process. Your video is very helpful. Thank you.

I've never been allowed to check out or trial chairs before getting them. They don't even give me a choice. I was hoping for a permobil this time and they are like 'your insurance now will only cover Invacare' which is why I now will be stuck with an Invacare TDX SP2......We'll have to see how I like it and then I'll watch videos on how to fix it up to my own way haha
My current chair is a Quantum 610 and it did NOT hold up well to 5 years of hard use from me

What drive is best, front, rear, or mid wheel ?
I live in a small home so chair needs to be maneuverable and have a short turning radius.
I have used manual chair all my life and now I’m older and getting constant pains in shoulder and elbow and think an power chair would help.
    Thanks,

For maneuverability a midwheel drive is unbeatable. I’ve got a Permobil M5 corpus on loan, so I can test it. (I’ve got 4 weeks to test it out, amazing!) and a midwheel drive can turn on a dime (it turns on its axis). I can finally use this chair inside my house without wrecking my home🤩

I have to ask, why did you choose a Quantum 4Front? I know you often are in FWD Permobil chairs and you have a decent working "new to you" F3. I'm an avid FWD chair user, and tried the 4Front there are a few things I just couldn't handle long term. Ps, I also enjoy learning about different types of chairs, how they work, and the pros and cons of each chair depending on manufacturer, drive wheel, power seating position options, driving controls, etc. I am definitely not an expert, and have a wee bit more difficulty working on chair than you (I have Arthrogryposis and upper extremities are loosely similar to a c5 quad)

thats the one thing im not sure about.. they started using this new design on the Q6 edge 2 chairs.. so will be interesting to see how they hold up.. they are running a higher RPM and gear ratio to make up for the smaller size of them. however, the wingdings are notably longer than even the older 4 pole motors... sooo *eh...? wee shall see! im HARD on chairs!

ive got an old samsung VR camera on the back of the chair right now.. its not really designed for how im using it lol but works ok - still need to buy a bunch of them and see what works the best. before, i used a go pro hero3+ (in looping mode) and them some random knockoff one after that. i wire them into chair chairs electrical system, or just just a 20,000 mAh battery pack in the backpack and charge it once a week. eventually ill do some more testing and make a video about it. - you can get some luggage straps, or even the Velcro cable ties - or regular zip ties to attach the back to chair.. usually one tug wont make it come loose if someone tries to grab it.

    • @TotallyNormal-
      @TotallyNormal-  4 года назад +1

ah! i forgot to mention that! - no im not gonna get a seat elevator.. trying to keep this chair as light, and uncomplicated as possible. the iLevel or whatever they call it adds over 90 lbs to the chair.. and also requires some additional hardware and cables to mechanically lock out the suspension when the seat is elevated. - less complicated moving parts, and weight is fine with me :^)
