What I love about forbidden west is how it looks amazing and still looks better than majority of new games but the performance mode is 1800p and a locked 60fps with almost no drawbacks to quality compared to the 4K 30fps mode
Horizon forbidden west is still the best looking game this generation in my opinion. Horizons dlc Burning shores has the best hdr implementation, alan wake 2 on pc came close to beating it but i still give it to Horizon because it's a open world game and it runs really smooth on the ps5 console, that's impressive.
You running on resolution or performance ?
@@Dope_Bomb92 balanced mode on my first playthrough and then performance for my second playthrough, if you have a 4k 120hz tv choose balanced mode, I didn't use resolution mode because the 30fps looked bad on my 4k 120hz tv
Alan Wake definitely has by far the best lighting system, because its path traced, but you need a very good and new gpu to really use that. I also play forbidden west on PC right now and the hdr is just perfect and I would also say its overall the best looking game I have ever played, despite even being open world.
RDR2 on PC is still unmatched. Especially when you throw in reshade to make the colours pop.
Should have compared more the jungle/mangrove areas in forbidden west or the dlc

Wish more devs would put more emphasis on interactivity with the world. For how beautiful HFW is I'm surprised how limited it is. Hopefully when a proper next gen version of the engine releases, they will put more dynamic physics systems in it.

Horizon is a really fast paced game it can’t have the level of interactivity of other open world games.

Both are great looking games, though Avatar has the advantage in that it came out a few years later. HFW is a MUCH better game though. After about 10-15 hours I got bored with Avatar, and in fact it made me want to play HFW again!

Currently playing through Avatar on a 4K PC and honestly was more impressed playing Horizon FW on PS5. Water looks so bad in Avatar and vegatation LOD is always noticable popping up in the distance. Dont get me wrong both look great but feels like Horizon got way more polish/effort than Avatar to me.
Thats because horizon did get more polish and attention just flat out. However avatar at max settings on my pc looks pretty incredible in its own right, definitely stands up to horizon in terms of pure fidelity and easily foliage density

In avatar water has vibration physics which horizon doesn't have. Vegetation interactivity and physics is also better in avatar. And avatar is also more polished than horizon if you compare the original release versions.

@@oropher1234 True, HZD on PS4 had almost no grass interaction, they improved it for the PC port. They'll probably do the same thing with HFW.

Crazy how much better horizon is. And they call avatar a true next gen game.
You shouldn't forget, Avatar is old a month. Many things will be patched and updated. Remember Cyberpunk in the early days ? Would be nice to see the comparison again in 1-2 years 👍

I wouldn't agree, its whatever the person perfers, I like 1st person way more, also there's 3rd person while riding and flying. Would be nice if games had both tho.

Something is very wrong with the water in Pandora
2:03 those are real good reflections not like cyberpunk where unless you toggle RT reflections (and lose 40 FPS doing so) you have some ugly SSR that dissapear from your screen if you look down without any cubemap in most part of the game.
Avatar also uses RT for reflections and on ultra to max settings it is roughly as or sometimes more demanding than cyberpunk pathtracing
@@redtro8678No, RT overdrive CP2077 is the second most demanding game after Alan wake 2 max graphics
You either have a new and good gpu and maybe even use upscaling or you will always lose that much performance for rt reflections in any game. They always work the same, so its not the games fault.

@@paquito4147Yeah got it. I also didn't use SSR at all in Cyberpunk, because even on high settings there was massive graining and it just looked awfull. Luckily they fixed it a few months ago, but it took way to long. It looks decent now, but yeah I know of the problems you talk about.
I like the 2 Avatar movies but the game is garbage. Horizon Forbidden West is a masterpiece.

beautiful game, but i don't think it's for me.
Also have horizon, but that game couldn't keep me entertained, guess i'm getting older. Need more story, less action, hehe. My reflexes aren't that great compared to a 12 year old kid.

These tech/comparison videos did make sense to me when we are talking about Red dead redemption 2. Can we even compare Avatar with rdr2? It's a different league isn't it?

You can compare, in some area Avatar is better and in several others rdr2 is better.
Game genre / gameplay / intention / budget is completly differents, but if you keep this in mind, you can do a fair comparison, imo.

Avatar cannot come close to Horizon in terms of Story or Gameplay
Both are very beautiful, but in terms of actual graphics tech, Avatar is more advanced. Uses real time raytraced global illumination, advanced high poly rendering and reactive environments, Digital Foundry even did a breakdown of it and showed it has some of the most advanced graphics tech of this generation
Horizon also has high poly rendering, quality of textures ae better in Horizon and models and animation is much better.

I know it hurts horizon fans feelings that a game looks better, both games look amazing tbh, but reality is that newer games ARE going to start to look better.

Water physics is very bad in horizon. Water physics in Avatar is more realistic than horizon and also has the extra vibration effect which is not present in horizon fw. Avatar also has better environments interactions.
It's really surprising, considering there is a lot of water interaction in FW and they used it in trailers. Underwater parts may be great, but these explosions... RDR2 is more than 3 years older, but water explosions are like at least 5 years ahead of FW.

@@CK-qb1kz More polished? I havent really seen any major bugs with Avatar, played through it myself and watched some gameplay streams. No glitching to be found. The only issues that have come up are related to performance, and that can be explained with having old tech. Avatar is quite demanding.
Neither of them are rip-offs. The world of Avatar and HZD are completely different but stunning. Frontiers of Pandora is not a rip-off. It just has some similar game mechanics from Horizon series like looting, weapon wheel and ammo crafting. Afterall both games are pretty enjoyable. So why bother if they're rip-off or not....

Horizon FW looks way better. Textures are more detailed. There's more polish. Character animations and skin is far better. Gameplay and story is superior too. It also came out a year ago so hardly a fair comparison comparing a newer game with an older one.
I've been playing Horizon Forbidden West for five days straight - from worldbuilding, getting goodies, character interaction [H: FW handle better by being personalised side-quest], biology/ecology of nature, dealing with tribe of communities, cheesing the best weapons armor upgrading that is the same game.
One game is made for PC and next gen consoles and the other was made to work on console hardware from 2013 that ran on a modified mobile grade CPU. HFW is incredible and I can't wait to see what Guerrilla Studios do next with the series when they don't have to hold back.
They will make it even more diverse!

Dude, avatar is a masterpiece - period. Without saying that horizon is not good because it’s a graphics masterclass, but in general, technically speaking there are some aspects that avatar makes horizon look last gen like destruction and variety in fauna in the same landscape. It’s not usual for Ubisoft to make such a good game taking into account that they brought ray tracing into consoles in such an efficient and beautifully crafted way. Also I found avatars verticality with no Mach from any other game. Ubi made it this time.

Horizon , I just start to play today and I have filling that all men in this game are shown as a weak, strange, bad and dirty minded creatures when womans are only right beautifull inside and strong ones, I will not have anything to this if that will be just few situations in modern entertainment world but this woke narrative is pushed everywhere for years now and is sad to watch world where woman dont need man for anything but doing dirty jobs and being wrong and bad. No problem that I cant choose who I play but problem is that I fill sorry for all men in this game which finally is turning into LGBT drama.
Horizon is the only game that gave us next gen graphics and i feel STALKER 2 would do the same.

It’s a skill you have to unlock that makes you able to collect arrows again

HFW looks much better. I think its the far more vibrant and dynamic lighting.
Avatars lighting looks washed out a lot of the time.
Also, HFWs draw distances combined with tasteful volumetric fog is unmatched. Avatars draw distances look...weird.

@@gemininimeg Nope, if you watch or read the reasoning by Obsidian why they made Outwer World a permanent first person, to save money from Motion Capture, because if you made your game third person, you also need the cinematic to be a third person, like with Horizon or GTA. This is why Cyberpunk is a third person from the early alpha, and when they are now on deadline they made the game like Outer World, Everything is first person.

Avatar is way better looking than horizon . More polígons , better plants animations , more dense jungles , the world feels alive. Both looks amazing on its own ways but Avatar is way more advanced technically

@@darrenlucas7362 The PC version is very impressive. I have a 7900 XTX Nitro and a 5120 x 1440 monitor. Looks really good. Horizon has much better art direction and animation, however. Burning Shores looked better than the base game, and I hope it's given a PS5 Pro update down the road.
