My mom and dad had a 16 years gap. They had a loving solid marriage. He left way too soon. She widowed at 46 and never dated ever!. When I asked her 10 years after his passing why she didn’t date and got a new husband, she answered me “I have my love, I know we will meet again, then how will I explain to him that I got another man when he left?, besides I have no desire to share the rest of my life with another man”. My late husband was 23 years older than me! After he passed away, (about a year later) I found a basket in the top of his closet, it had every card, note, letter and scrap piece of paper, that I had ever given him in chronological order dating back to 1995. He even had scrap pieces of paper that he had written my Hotel phone numbers on, after he received the information from dispatch... depending on which City I was dispatched in with the City's name, Hotel name and room number. Honestly, WHEN you marry with that much of an age gap kinda matters. If, for example, you've both been alive for longer than the age gap and are at a similar life stage, then it doesn't matter. But if you're a 38 year-old man marrying an 18-year-old before she's even finished high school, people are going to worry the younger partner is getting preyed on. Meantime a 30-year-old marrying a 50-year-old wouldn't be as weird because both would be established adults. And a 60-year-old with an 80-year-old? No one would bat an eye.

I have been continuously ridiculed throughout my marriage and even by a lawyer and doctor. I say pray for everyone and even our enemies just like Jesus says. My mom married my stepdad whos 21 yrs older but issue is that he never did anything. She did all the indoor and outdoor chores. Believe me the more you age, the more you don't give a shit to keep your image/pride, especially if you're accomplished and so sure of yourself. And you're more willing to do things you won't do on your own. The 40s and 50s have different threshold for shame than 20s, and in that I mean they tolerate a lot more. There are people who think they have to keep up appearances more the more they age, but I can't say it's the majority.
The reason is in mental growth. Usually a person in age after University graduation have nothing in common with person near 18yr age. (Of course except sex) And the gap in decades is very noticeable unless your body age and mental age are not the same. But if they happy and it's legal then just be happy :)
I didn't get married until I was 41. My hubs is 19yrs older than me. Definitely not for the money because he's too frugal, but I was highly attracted to his impeccable sense and responsible nature. My mom and dad had a 16 years gap. They had a loving solid marriage. He left way too soon. She widowed at 46 and never dated ever!. When I asked her 10 years after his passing why she didn’t date and got a new husband, she answered me “I have my love, I know we will meet again, then how will I explain to him that I got another man when he left?, besides I have no desire to share the rest of my life with another man”. My late husband was 23 years older than me! After he passed away, (about a year later) I found a basket in the top of his closet, it had every card, note, letter and scrap piece of paper, that I had ever given him in chronological order dating back to 1995.
He even had scrap pieces of paper that he had written my Hotel phone numbers on, after he received the information from dispatch... depending on which City I was dispatched in with the City's name, Hotel name and room number. I can estimate a date based on the piece above and below it. That really blew my mind.
I will never ever love anything more than this newfound treasure left to me.

Honestly, WHEN you marry with that much of an age gap kinda matters. If, for example, you've both been alive for longer than the age gap and are at a similar life stage, then it doesn't matter. But if you're a 38 year-old man marrying an 18-year-old before she's even finished high school, people are going to worry the younger partner is getting preyed on. Meantime a 30-year-old marrying a 50-year-old wouldn't be as weird because both would be established adults. And a 60-year-old with an 80-year-old? No one would bat an eye.

26 year age gap here… we have been married 23 years now! It’s rare and has it’s challenges… but it CAN work! Also not a money or daddy issue thing. 😂 I was born to older parents who had older parents and am the last of 6 kids with a 20 year age gap between oldest and youngest siblings, I’m the youngest. I guess I grew up more comfortable around older generations. Also had a short first marriage to a man close to my own age who was irresponsible and abusive. Mature husband was like a dream after that nightmare!
