"Why did will smith never blow up as a rapper" WTFF LMAOOO...Dude went multi-platinum in the 80s, won the first rap grammy and has as many grammies as Drake. Big WIlli Style in the late 90s went multi-platinum to the point where rappers like Jay-z and eminem would reference his record sales in their songs. HOMEWORK son...DO THE HOMEWORK.
That's all true but dont give him a hard time hes learning an no one knows everything. But yeah before the fresh prince of bell air tv show in 1990 Will was already quite well known amongst young people and those who enjoyed hiphop and watched MTV. DJ Jazzy Jeff and the fresh prince were one of raps biggest acts in the late 80s and would continue making music in the 90s while Will worked on the show the fresh prince with Jazzy Jeff being a recurring character. In 1997 or 1998 I think it was 1997 though Will Smith released Big Willie Style which is still one of raps biggest selling albums
It’s hilarious. He won the very FIRST GRAMMY AWARD for RAP/HIP HOP. He was only 17 or 18 years old when this album came out ... literally a kid and it sold 3 million copies. There was NO INTERNET. He IS a major music icon. Tv and movies just eclipsed his music success. “Parents Just Don’t Understand” is why he got the tv show and “Summer Time” is a Hip Hop CLASSIC!!!
Will did 5 albums with DJ jazzy Jeff and he’s the first rapper to win a Grammy in 1989 and the first rapper to have a double album in the hip hop culture history with he’s the DJ and I’m the rapper in 1988 and it was the first album to win the Grammy in 1989…real talk and facts and no cap
"He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper" was the first hip hop album I ever purchased, way back in 1988, and there has never been a point in my life since then that I did not own a copy of it. I highly recommend that you check it out.
I've said it before and will most likely say it again, Will Smith, as the Fresh Prince is one of the greatest rappers of all time. His storytelling is on the level of Slick Rick, if not better. His catalog is absolutely worth going back and checking out.
DJ jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince had multiple CDs multiple out. The only reason why a lot of people didn’t take him to Sirius what cause you’ll notice the Ennis bars and then his wraps he never curses only one song that he cursed in and that was you saw my blinker.
he has three grammys in a 10 yr span. He got one in 91 for Homebase and 97 for his solo joint. Yeah when he said that I was done. I didn't watch anything else after that.
Great reaction! This whole album is so much fun! I can’t tell you how many times ‘I popped in my cassette’ back in the day in order to polish up on my white girl moves 😆It was a little secret I kept hidden from my metal head friends.. oh to be 13 again!!
Bro, Will Smith started out as a Hip Hop artist back in the 1980s many years before he became an actor. He was already a very popular rapper with gold albums and a platinum selling album during the 1980s. His MC name was “Fresh Prince”, and his DJ was Jazzy Jeff. He first became an actor in the next decade (1990s). You can check out his 1980s hits such as: “Girls of the World Ain’t Nothing But Trouble”, “Parents Just Don’t Understand”, “He’s The DJ and I’m the Rapper”, “The Amazing Jazzy Jeff,” “Nightmare On My Street”, and so much more. Check out the original RUclips videos.

Hope you do more of these.
Prince and Jeff did blow up.... the TV show just overshadowed his rap career.. then movies came in and you gotta remember his career just to a left turn and a whole new generation just knows his acting career... its like Eddie Murphy the day my kids saw his delirious stand they flipped cause they only know Eddie as a G rated actor .. nutty professor, Dr. Doolittle, etc.

Sorry just before my time I guess. By the time I got into rap it was when Eminem was starting to pop. At least I'm trying to go back and learn some lol.
@@WhatTheBlastt I hear ya. Its just crazy cause Wil was really really big. Like we said his career ran from the mid 80's to the late 90's and had three Grammys over this time. well like you said. You are atleaat going back to listen to the older stuff.
He did 5 hip hop albums with dj jazzy Jeff and if you want to listen to jazzy scratching and mixing then listen to his first hip hop album called rock the house in 1987 and listen to the track called the magnificent dj jazzy Jeff
Why didn’t he blow up as a rapper? Dude! He’s considered a damn pioneer and he did blow the duck up and was one of the biggest hiphop acts in the 80s and won the first Grammy for rap/hiphop and DJ Jazzy Jeff was always considered and is STILL considered the greatest DJ of all time. This song is a classic in hiphop and so is there song “girls of the world ain’t nothing but trouble”. Back in the day will smith known as the fresh Prince was considered one of the greatest freestylers off the top of his head. They made severally albums. You gotta do your homework. Will is well respected in hiphop.
Hey dude Please check out Simply Red's "Holdin Back the Years" 1992 live version! Gonna blow you away with THAT VOICE!!! Would love to see your REACTION!!!
I never knew honestly lol. Just always knew him as an actor. I didn't get into rap until like 2000 and never backtracked that much to be honest. I'm def awake to his rap ability now tho haha
"Why did Will Smith never blow up as a rapper?" He kind of did, it come with his own TV Show, and movie roles..... LMAO. This is what got him noticed man, he was huge back then... Look, if you would have told me Will Smith from Dj Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, or Queen Latifah, or Even LL Cool J, would have had the success they have today, I wouldn't have thought it weird. I didn't expect it, but you could definitely see it in their videos and personalities.
Will.smith was one of the biggest rappers in hip hop back in the 80s...he got the show bcuz Quincy Jones knew it would be a hit cuz of how famous he already was of the smash hit PARENTS JUST DONT UNDERSTAND...he was bigger than Eric b and rakim. Big daddy kane, public enemy...everybody
You need to do your research he was a rapper before the actor the acting where have you been do your research before you start talking Loosely I know you just learning but I'm kind of disturbed by those comments
the thing is...Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff were not completely unknown. They were quite known in the hip hop community but this was long BEFORE hip hop was part of the Pop machine. This was before rap and hip hop was even used to sell burgers. Think about that. There was nothing in the machine that supported hip hop in those days. The MTVs and Much Musics were initially reluctant to support this music and culture. So hip hop was not a global phenomenon ...yet. The first time I heard a hip hop beat looped in a commercial on main stream tv channels I knew it was over. and over in a bad way not a good way.
Where did you come from Will Smith dead blow up as a rapper do your history The Fresh Prince who's the first solo rapper whoever received do your research young man
the album version of this song is way better than this. And yeah...over the years, Will was snubbed because he was laid back, but he had major skills, that stood out in many songs.
New rap heads weaned on a diet of terrible of MC'ing from hip hop's worst decade hearing actually MC'ing for the first time and being amazed at lyrical flows. This is what it was like in the golden era classic after classic every single month - rappers with talent, complex rhymes - MC's that actually rapped in time to the beat. I genuinely feel sorry for those who only know Drake, Kendrick, mumble etc. and believe these are 'good' hip hop. Kudos for digging into the past, you'll not be able to listen to modern hip hop after this because you'll realise how bad is actually is. I'm jealous of the journey you're about to take.
