@@vernonjohnson1198 Well, I knew that the human beat boxes disappeared. It is still a shame when a band comes up and then suddenly, sorry, got no use for you. Good bye. I know, he wasn't as central to the groups; success. His name wasn't on the album. Still sad though.
This is a jam and Will Smith could rap his ass off. Jazzy Jeff is a a hell of a DJ. He has a routine on RUclips where he's cutting up Peter Piper by Run DMC. It's worth taking a look at.
Jeff is credited for being one of the inventors of the transformer scratch. Either way, he took it to the next level. He is also a dope beat maker and producer.
He wasn’t coming out of the box. Most of hip hop was fun and clean. The exceptions were the harder stuff... it all started to head in the other direction in the late 80’s. He was just one of the few that stayed true to himself and still stayed relevant. The West coast rappers changed it all. The Chronic by Dre took filth mainstream. And the change over was complete with Snoop’s first album. NWA was around, but they were not at all mainstream... I know their movie makes it seem otherwise, but they were on the fringe.
Him not cursing was actually a plus thing for him. This was lyrically better then most things out at the time, this "Brand New Funk" specifically made hip hop lovers like myself raise an eyebrow. The "Get Down" is James Brown, and yes, Will was getting down. Jazzy Jeff has been my favorite DJ forever (I mean, my first favorite was Scott LaRock)... I mean even now he jams overseas, hear, everywhere. You can look him up playing around with modern DJ's as well.
I love this version of the song. It's a little different from the album version, particularly having more scratches from Jeff. My theory is that Will wasn't quite up to lip synching his rap so they put this together out of a live version and having him re-record other parts for the taping. Not sure if that's how it came about (if so then Will learned to lip-synch really fast after this) but it's definitely more raw than the other..
This came out in 1988. Same album as Parent Just Don't Understand. The album is called "He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper." Between this album and Young MC's "Stone Cold Rhymin', life was good. You're right, these guys were competing with M.C. Hammer, Tone Loc, Vanilla Ice as far as hip hop that was cleaner. N.W.A., Public Enemy, Too Short, etc...who were also out at the same time, were a lot more graphic in their language.
Don't forget that DJ Jazzy Jeff and The fresh Prince were rappers and DJs way before they did TV shows and movies. DJ Jazzy Jeff was a DJ before he even met Will Smith.
Great reaction! Some insight. It came out in 1988. The beauty of this song is the cadence. Yeah, the lyrics didn't align like you are used to. Intentionally so. Check out the strong unique flow (which is "the brand new funk" that the song is about)! They put together a whole new delivery that worked really well. The guy you were asking about is Ready Rock C (Fresh Prince's Beat Box -- Check out "Rock the House" if you want to see Ready Rock, Fresh Prince, and Jazzy Jeff do some cool stuff). I knew people who were in that specific crowd that night of taping.
Man, RUclips killed my link. Here is the cued up portion of Ready Rock C beatboxing if you want to hear it. (I'll link in a reply). I'm tired of RUclips deleting comments with links...
Will Smith was around along time way before his acting career his first album was out on 1987 Rock the house and the song your listening to Brand new funk came out in 1988 off of the album He's the Dj I'm the Rapper
Will Smith raps to this on Sway and it sounds even better. He still has it. Check it out. I bought the album (He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper) in 1988 and still have it. Good songs on the album.
Jazzy Jeff is still going... still friends with Will (they still collaborate). He also had recurring cameos on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air tv show (Uncle Phil would always literally throw him out of the house).
The album is called he’s the DJ and I’m the rapper and it’s the first double album in the hip hop culture history in 1988 and it won the first Grammy in 1989 and the dude holding the mic 🎤 in the red shirt is the human beat box name ready rock c…..real talk and facts and no cap
DJ Jazzy Jeff was recently featured along with rapper A.F.R.O. on the song "Gotta Be Dope" from the album All My Heroes Are Dead by R.A. The Rugged Man
Yo you cant be stopping In the middle of a track. That shit is a classic bro. Let it play. It's on the first album. And the Video was taken at the Fresh fest. It's the first successful hip hop concert. And is in the Rock n roll Hall of fame. Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince Run DMC Kurtis Blow Whodini and the Fat Boys. Your a smart guy learn your hip hop history.
Idk Will Smith's acting career was all right you got to rephrase Iike, aight. He was also his own hype boy because the energy that he exuded in his entertainment factor were superlative at the time. But he wouldn't have made it that far if he didn't have and unorthodox Avant guard guard so to speak. And that spiritual musical beautiful guardian had a name and his name was Jeff. Jeff was was like the drummer in the band but literally more of a percussionist with the record player. When fun hits fun that should be like a magnifying glass on a hot July day 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
3:30 ohhhh you have no idea 1. In girl ain’t nothing but trouble he buys a prostitute and punches her and proceeded to throw a trash can at her when she accuses him of sexually assault 2. He rapped about 5 transgenders robbing his home after a party(cancel worthy) 3. Getting kidnapped by natives 4. Wanting to torture/murder someone if they don’t dance for him 5. In the only song he cusses in he cusses out a old woman for hitting his car and was held contempt of court 6. He had a song where he sexually harassed a woman in school and stole a kids car and was chased by the cops 7. A song about cheating on his girl and getting caught(one of my favs) 8. Stealing his moms Porsche and getting arrested for picking up a minor in which he didn’t know 9. The exact same thing Dababy did at rolling loud he did basically but it was the 80’s so he didn’t get in trouble 10. Rapping about him and his body guard being this ruthless force in which he got arrested for aggravated assaulting someone(in real life) And more. He’s a clean rapper but raps some explicit topics
I'm bummed that Weird Al was blocked, but I see on your Patreon that you really enjoyed it! I sincerely hope you do more from him. He's got a lot of great videos! A tip. I've seen other reactors play the videos using RUclips's "miniplayer", and that seems to prevent a lot of videos from being blocked. That might work for you. Instead of making the video full screen, just make the RUclips page half of your reaction screen, and open the mini player on top of the RUclips page you are watching. Seems to work and keep things live.
Best cut off the 1988-ish album. I like this live version too. This was when they were young and hungry and having fun. When he became Big Willie or whatever his rap game was very predictable. I'm thinking, Summertime. Jazzy Jeff didn't slip tho.
Automatic subscribe to sum1 listening to what I consider will smith's best song.. dont sleep on will.. he can actually rap... and jazzy one of the og dj legends
The guy dancing was their human beatbox. His name is Ready Rock C.
I heard their separation wasn't mutual. Shame.
not to be confused with charlie mack

Jeff is the best DJ ever....prove me wrong...
Can’t prove you wrong 🙌
Dj Cash Money
1988 wen it came out!
I still love this song too this day. It is timeless. I miss this type of rap along with the music videos and dancing

thank you for teaching me a couple things and thank you for stopping by and being part of the channel
World famous Jazzy Jeff bro. Does all big concerts and every hip hop show.
Jeff travels around the world still as a DJ as well as his show on twitch and RUclips

The album version was better. The repeats take away from just how smooth Will Smith’s flow was in this song. Definitely some of Jeff’s best work.
Jazzy jef one of the dopest djs ever. He invented the transformer scratch.
