This man is the only person that makes me want to plan out and shoot some scenes, and I'm more into photography than cinematography, but that magic shot tickled my brain juuuuust the right way.
I love that you don't just show us the technical side of filmmaking. You show us how you break the ice with actors and bring out the performances you're looking for. Fantastic stuff.
I really wish more filmmakers on RUclips went into the level of depth and decision making for each shot the way you do. It's the number one reason I keep an eye out for new content from you. For someone like me who isn't as experienced with filmmaking, your method is very relatable and gives meaningful insights to the way you have to think about problem solving on set, in the moment. Respect.
Been watching D4 since 2019 and still one of the most inspirational people I watch to this day, his very own style and story telling is direct in a beautiful way love ya man keep making amazing content
The short was great, but as per usual, the behind the scenes was where it's at for me. I love how much care you put into catching your shoot days and your edits are always so fun!
Darious! Iker here, from Mexico City, thanks for opening up your directing process! What a gift and inspiration for us all! Best Film Teacher Ever!!! Thank you!
See... this is why I love your content. You help people see they can make a compelling movie look good on a budget. Way to inspire me once again Brochacho!!!
You have become the master at telling stories. I swear, each video you post is a mini movie. You got the drama, the set backs, the cliff hangers and then the climate at the end. And your editing is just amazing. Love all the images you add. Just awesome.
I'm stoked that Stay Pretty got to see the light of the day! :D It was such a great experience to contribute to this project and to work with you, brother! 👊
those mirror scenes for internal conflict and the menace scene smh so good, and the popcorn scene ik u wanted to display a romance but to me it displayed the tension which stitches together the menace scene and the pillow cleaning scene. its like she was trying to convince someone else of her ideology(menace scene) all while deep down she couldnt peacefully hold onto it(mirror)
Vaughn has a beautiful face. The gaze you talked about her having while probably just thinking about ice cream was prefect. 😂. The chemistry between everyone was great. The filming notes and specifics. 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿This was just all around really good Darious. Great job and welcome back!!!
Yo! For the longest time I thought you weren't uploading. That's how you know the notification system has sucked hard pre 2023. Your the reason I started writing screenplays! The only good thing about missing a lot of the videos, I have lot to get caught up on now.
I honestly have literally watched all the videos on the channel at least twice. Some five or more times. You can imagine how it feels to see an upload after months. Plus I just finished shooting my first ever film Alone!
This young man has been my number 1 influence with filmmaking. There is a wealth a film making knowledge on this man's RUclips channel, D4dauairs is literally the most underrated unsung , brilliant film minds of our time ladies and gentlemen and others The King of film teaching D4dauairs
That is the best short story about a short story I have ever seen. You should definitely submit this short to festivals. Well Done for everything: the storytelling, the editing, the B rolls, the attention to detail. This is D4Darious, a master piece!
Darius, when I first found your channel years ago, I didn’t even know what shutter speed was. Even so, your videos inspired me to learn the craft of filmmaking. I was a kid without a film school or a filmmaking community, yet your channel helped me find ways to push through those limitations. Since then, I have directed multiple award winning short films, from small, one-man projects to entire traveling crews. I really can’t thank you enough for what you do. Loved this video and film, and I can’t wait to see what you do next. Keep hustlin’ man 👊
Happy you’re back! You inspired me to make the jump into filmmaking almost half a decade ago now and now I’m making my own shorts!! Thanks for your knowledge!!
It's always good to see you doing your thing. What I always appreciate, is that you highlight that we can all do so much more, with less than we thought.
1. Expensive Lenses - Visible quality? Not to me, though my perception on lenses are very loose. 2. Anamorphic experiment - split format distracting? I personally loved it, mainly because it separated itself from the other scenes aesthetically. 3. The Magic Shot - feel the power!! I honestly did. Ignoring everything you brought about it, as if I was blind watching it, although an oxymoron, is how I tried to approach it. 4. Hint of Menace? YESS!!! My personal favorite part of the whole film is that scene because of the anticipation. 5. Romantic Chemistry? 100% The actors were delightful and looked like they were genuinely having a blast. 6. Did we save the film? Yes, you did Darious.
So impressed by what you managed to create with three scenes missing from the script! It felt like a complete short film, not as if something was missing. Great work, Darious!
Thank you so much for walking us through the process, the planning, and the ART of it all! Always look forward to new content and it encourages me to keep trying.
I loved how you combined BTS with showing the short at the end. I not only benefited from seeing how you worked, but, then saw how it all came together in the final cut. Great short, too.
I am so happy to see you back and making stuff. I can’t tell you how often you’ve educated and inspired me. Now I’m following my dreams, too. Glad to have you back!
The anxiety that builds in me waiting on a new D4Darious video to show up is kind of ridiculous. More than any other creator I look forward to your work the most. Hope you're doing well!
Wow, what a save. I think you showed the lighting (and camera angles) was more important than either the camera or lens, although I loved the anamorphic flare. Thanks.
sigh...i never have words for you man, but you're incredible to say the least. from the way you story tell to explain your storytelling. always epic on both ends
This Bebop by D4Dariious has me, a fan, awaiting more knowing years of career trajectory await as he chills into his Cool and Avant-garde years. Dig it.
I definitely love the story about the process, it made me THAT much more interested in seeing the final results. Good work all the way around, in fact I think the most important thing had LITTLE to do with the camera and the technical aspects and more to adjusting your mentality to a changing project. I've started several projects with a precise vision, but realized the hardest thing was adjusting when the initial vision isn't the focus anymore. Great story telling.
Your videos are just SUCH a creative BOOST!!! Just the notification of your video got me all rizzed up!!! I will save this video for a perfect time!!! You are the one who got me to go and shoot stuff with y family/friends, and edit, shoot, grade the whole 9!!! Your videos are EPIC!!!
I love the video, and great work on the short film! Nobody represents the process, the experience of making videos as well as you. I teach video in Maine, and I love using your work to supplement what we're doing in class. Kudos on another one that will surely make its way into my class notes--The way you talk about, and work with your actors is wholesome--that's the kind of energy I hope my students walk out of here with. I'm also tickled that you're using a G7 at the beginning--that's my go-to cheap camera for class, but the monitor situation is dire. We also have a 17.5mm f0.9 Voightlander on our lens cart, and that sucker is beautiful!!
Well done! But I am as equally if not more entertained by your BTS as your humor/visuals always bring a smile or a giggle. IMHO, the final result was great! Kudos to your actors too!
That was magic!! I have only two small critques: 27:43 the repeated same scrubbing sound was a little jarring, and 28:26 I wish it ended right there! Just with her contemplating. I felt so many powerful emotions in that silence. Wish it had gone to black with that sound effect and those emotions. I felt the last cut took away from those feelings. But I did feel those emotions, so it was yum!
This is probably your best video to date. This video has some epic video production quality. You gave a great explanation of all the details and made it very entertaining to watch. 💥🔥🔥
Good on you for finishing the short cause you're right a film that ends up in the graveyard of flat/preachy shorts is better than nothing. But you don't have to worry about that cause this short doesn't end up there. Keep on creating and inspiring.
Always love watching these videos. Helped me a lot when I took a film class in college. The professor was not great and I had no idea what I was doing lol ur channel helped me give one of the best short films in the class.
gotta say; 1) its great to see you again D4, i love your style and humor, 2) the editing and story of the video ( and the short as well) make's this interesting to watch even if you did not finish the short 3) that short was really good. impactful, deep, layered, and nuanced. all told your doing great homie, keep it up as your a inspiration to a lot of us ^_^

I feel like many creator fear to loose the highlight/shadow details. I say, embrace it. Nothing wrong with less details if it enhances the scene.
Sheesh!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you D! You’re storytelling about storytelling is next level. The re-visioning of the film and the edit is amazing.

Bro, only You can make a short film about how you can make a short film. Genius 💪🏾💪🏾
I loved my Voigtlander lenses. Sold them for lenses with AF and still regret it regularly. I even loved the softness you could get at .95.
Another anazing video. Thanks for having me on set to film the behind the scenes, it’s always great working with you 💪🏼

I now shoot full frame but the g7 with the standard and natural color profiles tweaked down actually looks pretty amazing
You gotta be kidding me… you only shot 62% of the original idea with bad audio and you were still able to make that…. 🙃 impressive. Really impressive…

Wow D4! Amazing behind the scenes stuff and great product with aging gear. Master class!
