You mate ,its like anything ,you know your weapon system back to front and the dope on the scope and wind reading, is 2nd to none, even without geo app, Erik keep it up love to see it at 1,000 yards and maybe if you get the other shooters to use your ammo as well in their weapon's in 308 or 6.5 or what ever, just so each weapon has the same twist and barrel length etc but using your ammo, especially the drilled out end of the projectile etc. 🦘🦘👌👌✌✌👍👍
I know its the rifle mate, because i have never shot a weapon since i was only 14 in the cadets, yet in 2020 was asked to go to a rifle practice shoot, little did i know they are all F Class shooters and i was blown away with the systems. Also can they use iron long range sights old school type lope hole stuff or not ?
All 308 and 1 5.56mm, first time shooting at 1,200 yards score was 38/50, 2nd time score was 48/50 and that was with the 5.56mm, so its the training i got in the cadets and also the precision of the weapons, blueprinted rifle, barrels, no tuning ends at all, no muzzle brakes, just FTR 308 and 5.56mm weapons.
Its a very expensive sport if you want to compete in the world F Class / FTR championships etc, like at bisley in england with the wind issues etc.🦘🦘✌✌👍👍
As a Marine I can tell you those comments are just dumb. The 500 yard target is 20” wide and 40” tall. Hitting 10 for 10 is not a problem. But no way you’re hitting a 2” by 2” target at 500 yards with iron sights.
Well, there’s $5K if they can do it. :)
Matthew quigley would have no problem with this challenge 💪🏼😂
Sure enjoyed the video, the shooters and the challenge!
Anyone who comments dumb shit about how Marines qualify open sights at 500 in the context of this isn’t a Marine. Yes we qualify to 500 but the target is huge by comparison. Taking nothing away from Marine marksmanship though..it’s no small feat to get EVERY Marine to the point they can hit a car sized target at 500 😂. Probably most of the people who comment on these videos have never even taken a 500 yard shot.
The Marine Corp qualification includes targets at 500-METERS, or about 547-yards. Marine Corps distances are all metric.
Yea, the marines qualified with iron sights... on a target the size of a barn door 😂.
Oh no you didn’t. 😂
This challenge is turning out to be as engaging as Texas Plinking's 1 MOA at 1000 yds. Love it!
Thank you
Get Brandon Texas Plinking to shoot your stage 😁👊🏽 good entertaining & informative content vato 🤘🏾
@@RicardoGonzalez-ug6xm I second that!
I dont get it I shoot 1000 in my yard all the time
@@HOTRODMONZA What don't you get?
What I really love most about this show as well as Texas Plinking is, and your intro touched on this, it HUMBLES the competitors and I know some of the viewers. Like you said, and a lot of hard heads are trying to ignore it, this isn't just about laying down and smacking all the plates. WAY MORE TO IT! And it shows every time a competitor gets to the line and takes that 1st shot! If this was easy, we'd all be champions! Good stuff EC
BTW, watching them shoot the 1st 5 plates then missing the last really makes one "SCREAM OUT"........ask me how I know🤣🤣😂😂
Oh yeah, been there many times. Frustrating!
Glad to see another man with a little class following Eric 😆
Still my favorite air-tuber!
Derek shot on Texas Plinking 1"MOA Challenge that was shown on a few days ago, lol. That rifle is crazy!
And yes, USMC does shoot irons out to 500yds. I know, I shot 242 in Basic. We weren't shooting at 2" targets though.
Thank you
Anybody can shoot at 500 yards, hell you can shoot 22lr out to 2,000 yards, doesn't mean you will hit anything. With no optic, even man sized targets at 500 yards is just spraying and praying.
There are some shooters out there that are insanely proficient with irons. I don’t think most can clean the KYL without insane luck but it will be entertaining to see ultra skilled open sight shooters try.
I don't know anyone who can even see the 2 inch target with the naked eye at 500 yards
no one will clean the KYL with iron sights, even with luck, in 12 shots.
Recently we were shooting open sights some weeks back with old military weapons - some of he 4 inch targets were red and i could barely see them.. lol
The only shooters who are proficient with irons are the ones who can't see shit and think they've hit something when they haven't. 3 moa is considered accurate by iron standards and you aren't going sub moa with irons past 100 yards period.
To this day I can't understand how the old man would knock crows out of the treeline at just over 220 some yards with his old .22 cooey and the cheapest ammo available at McLeods.. and he would do it standing. I tried to repeat the shot and I can't even see them behind the sight post.
Well Derek was on the long range episode with Texas Plinking, does that mean we can expect to see you on the next one? I would love to see that happen
It’s a long drive for two shots. 😉
@ErikCortina I got 5. It takes u atleast 3.
@@ErikCortina daaang I wanna see it! Get that gold coin!
@@ErikCortina I wouldn't bet against you. 😁
@@ErikCortinasince you said 2 shots now you have to do it!!! Lol. Hope to see you there.
Eric, I think your money is safe 🙂
Come and take it! 😜
That was great. It looks like a lot of fun. Just a hunch, I don't think you are going to see anyone winning the challenge with iron sights much less even showing up to shoot with iron sights. However, if they do show up to shoot with iron sights, Please record and share. That should make for some good entertainment. 😄
I hope those big mouths are the first ones to take that challenge and if they don't do it, they should be the ones paying you $5,000.00
Nah, they don’t have to pay me. I know I won’t have to pay them either, but I hope they enjoy eating crow. 😁
The 2" miss on Clay was a nail biter!!! Thanks for this series, it's been extremely entertaining.
The guy with the blue purple rifle didn’t have enough embarrassing himself on the Texas MOA challenge 1000 or 500 yards failed 😅
Are you ready to try it? You can’t really talk about anyone else unless you are willing to try it or have tried it yourself. 😁
@@ErikCortina what’s the name of the challenge? Know your limits right? Erik I know mine so I’m not going to make a fool of myself 😂 there’s a reason why only a world 🌎 champion is been able to clear it.
😂
Idk, i know of a guy who nails coke cans with a .22 from 700 yards on irons
Yeah, I’ve met that guy too.
Someone fly out 22man to do this easy challange with his 1972 Ruger 10/22
Bring it!
I know I'm watching online, I know they're the ones shooting, I know it's already done and over with...but I still hold my breath after they push the bolt back forward and there's a silence 😆
😂
Don't adjust for wind use your reticle. By the time you adjust on your scope the wind might not be the same.
I'll start by saying I am only a hobby long range shooter (.308, 6.5 Crdmr and 22LR)
I live in the desert where it is easy ti set up 1000 to 2000 yards. With the wind shifting and gusting the hold for a hit varies so much. Holding by a wind flag at the moment seems to work for me. Dialing in wind doesn't seem the way to go.
Very cool to watch. Lots of respect for these guys that can see that far much less hit a 4” plate in the wind.
Can we do the iron sight challenge even if we know we’re not going to do it? I’m not delusional but I’ll give it a shot just for fun lol.
Sure. Send it!
Love this new series!! Keep it going!
Thank you
Agreed 💯
If you are skilled and and familiar with your tool, you would be able to hit at 500m with iron sights. But not at 5cm (about 2 inches) Target. You would be able to hit a chest zone target though.
Purple rain rifle f*cks. Thing was laying a hell of a group at 1000 in the other challenge too
If I remember correctly he never hit the 1000 yard target??
He would do a lot better if he didn't try to adjust for wind using the dials.
I Love how You give the specs on the rifle used as well as the entertainment value of the competition THANK YOU so much Sir
Thank you
This is great. Would love to see some of the champion shooters try this. I'm sure it will be very humbling for some!
I hope someone takes up the iron sight challenge. That’s a video worth watching!!!
There were many in the comment section. Let’s see if any of them are willing to show us how it’s done.
@@ErikCortina I think your money is safe. A very skilled shooter with irons might be able to consistently hit a 6" target at 500 on a flat calm day. The smaller targets require a healthy dose of luck, all in a row. I'd bet not one of those keyboard sharpshooters will even attempt it. Any true marksman who has a chance at completing it would never make the comment about it being "easy" in the first place. He'd know better!
@@ErikCortina yeah... no one is gonna come and do that. My Marine Brothers... The M16 rifle is a 4 MOA rifle (some better). Thats 4 inches at 100 yards. You will not be able to see a 4 inch target at 500 yard let alone get a sight picture. Lets not even talk about the 2 incher. And IF YOU DID by some voodoo eye magic, the rifle you are using is a 20 inch group at that range. A national match service rifle will have a hard time holding 2 MOA. F it, lets say its a 1 MOA rifle because the armorer has a hard on for you. Thats still 5 inches. How do you think you are going to hit a 2 inch plate like that? Dudes, get off the internet and get back to the range.
Who says they would be using an M16?
@@joshuaputman8307 fair enough! the topic originated from Marines talking about 500 yards open sights. An m16 variant was the assumed. Although in this case i dont think it matters which rifle they use. Human eyes are only so good. Especially mine. im done at 50 yards lol.
This confirms that 90% of hunters have no business shooting 500yds at game animals.
Yes sir.
@@ErikCortina very few are getting first round hits on the 12 and 10 inch plate. Pretty much the vital size on a deer
99.5%
A hunters episode! Shooters bring their actual hunting rifle.
Good God, how can anyone see a two inch square at 500 yards?
Maybe at night if it is a lightbulb😂
Lol, apparently they can do it. We’ll see.
Man this dude Derek been on two channels with his 20k rifle and can’t get it done while people with $1500 rifles do. Interesting.
No one got it done here. It was windy!
dont be gear jealous. its not a good look. also its not a 20k rifle. more like 5-6k. Any rifle will get a bullet there, good rifles get them all there and really close to each other. great rifles do all that and have lots of options to make it fit you and your sport. at some level you dont want to lose to gear. if its allowed, you will use it.
I’ve been in special forces and served as in airborne infantry for 18 years…the best of the best as they say. I was a serious USPSA action pistol shooter messed around in 3gun. Serious civilian shooters will crush 99% of the military. An F class or PRS guy could show a trained sniper a thing or two all day long. Regular marine? Bro come on. Might as well up to $50,000.
To bad I’m not at least in my 30, I’d do in for not the $5000, I’d try it just for the grins and giggles of it. Getting old and being 100% Disabled Veteran bites!
It would be fun for sure.
Great Stuff 💯I enjoyed it as much , if not more than Texas Plinking 1000 yds💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
🤘🏼😜👍🏼💪🏼🤘🏼
I would like to see the Lee Enfield No4 Mk2(T) doing the challenge (ruclips.net/video/nWpZGJpk6fk/видео.html)
0:41 Looks like a bunch of old FUDDS that barely qualed on the range, or probably UNQed. I was an infantry Marine and qualified expert every single time, regardless of how the scoring changed over the years. The course of fire is VERY similar to (mid-range??)F-class before electronic targets, from what I heard. The difference is the size of the target. The smallest dimension to "stay in the black" on a USMC KD-course is roughly 4 MOA. The standard for ammo and rifles accepted by the govt is.... 4 MOA. That's minute of man at 500-ish. On average the rifle and ammo will do about 2.5 MOA-ish. Which, for practical shooting, running strictly irons, isn't bad, but it's nothing to write home about. It's good enough for govt work. That said, a bone stock govt rifle and ammo shooting the black jack challenge with stock irons, you might hit the first 2 targets if you're damn good, the 3rd if you're lucky, and the rest would take a miracle. This challenge is about precision shooting, not the same as practical shooting. Don't listen to the FUDDS Erik!
Why did you stop --> because it is not an actual competition so you shoot till you fail because that is how you learn!
I have hit 10/10 in the bull at 500 with iron sights, but I think that was more like a 6" rectangle. Pretty sure I can't consistently put them on a 2" target, even 1 or 2/10 would be tough.
.303 British, 173gr boat tail.
That was at the national championships after months of shooting and tens of thousands of rounds, nobody else I saw could put them in a 2 inch ring at 500, so I find it hard to believe.
Real world results at an insanely difficult challenge in the wind. Would be good if a fresh coat of paint was rattle canned on for each competitor so both shooter and audience could see impact points.
I don’t want to have anyone downrange while challenge is going on.
@@ErikCortina Good range protocols can make the situation safe, All guns in a supervised safe Zone until directed to come forward by range officer. But I can understand if you are managing the range on your own
Correct me if I am wrong but the old USMC Q target was like 20"x40" and yeah at a known distance of 500yds with a properly sighted in gun you should be able to hit that no problem with iron sights. What on earth makes people think that is equivalent to hitting a 2" square at 500yds?
700 Remington police in 300 win mag shooting 225 gn BTHP pushed by 71 gn H1000, Leopold mark 5
The best 500 meter rifle I ever fired.
Ha did not even know what PRS was till now ! So now my 7MM has a reason lol ! I wont have the EYE CANDY yall have but it will shoot ! I will set up a range here in my yard and see if I can do this pretty sure Im good at 500 down to the 4 inch never cared about smaller hits then that !
Love it. It's apparently hard to quit while you are ahead. Great work boys.
Yes it is! 😂
I would try it with the old enfield iron sights just for the fun of it. Hitting the first plate would be pure luck, but its not an impossible challenge.... Erik would have to help me work up a good handload for it of course.
I was rooting for the last guy. Glad he went for it. But you dont your limits until you reach the point of failure. On a less windy day he might of cleared it.
I call bs on anyone claiming they can do it with open sights. There are competitions for open sight shooters and I've seen some published scores of what those guys are capable of. Nobody is that good.
Are you selling the ez tuner that you can attach a suppressor to?
Yes. Tapered EC tuner. It’s on my website.
@@ErikCortina ah I see, I’d have to have my barrel threaded for the tuner correct? Is there or could there be a version in the future that instead of the break it’s just threaded to take any after market brake or suppressor?
Dont have a 500 yard play area but if I did I'd try the Iron Sight Challenge with my Lee Enfield 303 British.
THAT'S a Challenge!
Bring it!
@ErikCortina
I'd be coming from northwest Oregon. If I can I will contact you.
Do we get 12 rounds too?
2" at 500 yards is .40 moa those guys are nuts if they think an m16/m4 is shooting anywhere near that with bulk mil ammo.
I’d really like to try it but not here in Germany, if the wind would be very soft I’d probably get hits up to 8‘
That last shot was so close. Fair play he gave it a go and his wind call was bang on
I think it would be really cool to discuss the rear bags their using as well.
Which brings me to the point of this comment, what bag is the guy with the purple and blue rifle using?
I kinda feel sorry for the 25 Creedmor guy he kept missing high, but it seemed like he was blaming the wind.
Lol...got real quiet in the comments for some reason
😂😂😂
Great video Eric, I’m a big fan of KYL competition and most of the guys I’ve brought into it are shooting much better than they ever thought possible. Now I think you’ve come up with a way to up the game and I’ll be introducing it to our club, we have a great 500yd range, centerfire😂 Thanks for the knowledge and the videos.
Thank you
Dang from texas plinking to erics in 1 week on RUclips, purple rain is making the rounds
👍
So if you're trigger hand is for trigger and other hand is for working the bolt to be faster and better control! Most been shooting wrong handed rifles! Just saying!
This second guy was on Texas plinking I'm pretty sure
I hunt moose... I watch a lot of hunting videos... What I'm not sure of...WHY PEOPLE site their rifle in to hit a 2 inch target...the go hunting and shoot an animal in the boiler...or front shoulder 🤔
Aim small miss small
There is no reason to do this platform
if you always go for it. not being negative. It's just that the whole idea is a smart strategy.
i love your vidz. the spicey language is so funny. you are making me want a rimx
Now that theres money and you contact infi up ....its gotten reeeeally quite 😂😂 i swear everytime you talk about some Kinda precision shooting online your going to get alot of vets trying to jump on their high horse using their qual standards . Not like competitions or anything just qual standards .Have had it happen a few times with army vets talking about how " well i qualified with my m16a2 iorn sites out to 300m" but then they get quite when i tell then im a army vet too and hitting a Epsic at 300m isnt that hard with properly zeroed iorns clap clap congratulations you where able to your basic solider tasks 🤦😂 more seem to liek teyong to use alot of millitary lingo to mystify civillans. Seen alot of Marines check other marines the same way when it comes to their 500m shooting. I mean when a large majority of shooters think hitting a coke can at 100yd make ayiu a sniper i guess hitting a man sized target at 300-500 would count as precision shooting
Please don’t tell me those are hand loads cycling through a magazine 😂
@ErikCortina what happened to Jason? When will he be back on the channel?
I shot Rifle Expert in the Marines 5 times. And I call that challenge damn near IMPOSIBLE. To my fellow Marines. At 500 Meters your target is over 3 feet Square.
Thank you.
I would suggest, to make it fair for each shooter that you paint the targets fresh for each shooter. Then they could at least see, with a visual representation, where they just hit. What do you think EC?
I don’t like having anyone down range during the challenge.
@@ErikCortina understandable, that’s not safe. But, it’s only 501 yds. Side by side or 4 wheeler could get there break quick. Spray spray and you are back up, off the range.
We can’t go straight to the 500 yard targets. We have to go around a creek. Takes a long time.
@@ErikCortina yep, that’s the info I was missing. Makes perfect sense now. Otherwise the first guy up had a better chance than anyone else. Clean plates. Except the 2”, that’s barely been touched. What you and maybe one other competitor.
"How much you wanna bet I can throw a football over them mountains?"
Geez what is so hard about this challenge. That’s not difficult not with that set up this guy is shooting. I’ve got a 40x Remington target master out of the custom shop in 308 that I shoot at 565 yards all the time it’s the max distance at my range and shoot clothes pins at 500 yards average is 8/10 with 10 shots. The least ever was 6/10 and that was in a 10-15 wind at a40 degree angle across range I just don’t get it All these little 6-6.5 guns suck in the wind Give me a 308 in 175 match king out to 500 yards and it will eat them for lunch Ballistics r well known for the 308 round. Out to 500 yards it’s the best in my opinion
Come shoot the challenge. I’m sure you will do great.
With my rifle or yours? I'd love to try my 100 yo Swede. Open sites? Hell yeah!!
Send it!
Awesome challenge.
Thank you 🤗
You got to love Erics style with the keyboard USMC warriors saying its easy 2" target at 500 yards with iron sights blabla... LMAO
😜
Erik, Where are those comments? I couldn't find them in the other video, did they take down their comments? Still waiting for them to step up and take your 5000 bucks. I mean since it's so easy for those Marine corp guys with iron sights it would be crazy for them to not take your money.
The comments are on Facebook.
I'd love to give it a try just to be able to shoot your gun ;this is coming from a 72 year old PA groundhog hunter trying to do head shots on groundhogs unknown distance over 400. It's all fun I do like your tuner break.
Thank you
2x2 at 500 irons ya right maybe eventually hit it
second time this week ive seen that blue/purple rifle.
Ray Charles could hit the 20”x40” marine target at 500yds, god bless our troops but sometimes they a little goofy
😂
Love seeing the 25 creedmoor. Everyone said blackjacks were 🔥 to bad they are no more. Building a 25 SAW
What a nice idea for a challenge. Very hard to hit that 2 inch target at 500 yards.
Correct. Not easy.
@@ErikCortina I would try myself, but my closest range with a KYL target is 3 hours away. Standing by to receive news of a lucky winner!!
5:45 that dude was one texas plinking's channel. He said he was very confident he was going to hit the target in the first couple shots and ended up missing every shot. These challenges can be hard but have some humility and then you wont look as bad if you don't perform
I would have bet money that Derek was going to hit it in less than three shots. He’s a top level PRS shooter and trainer. But, as we all know, not every day goes as planned.
Our shooting club is Cold Bore Country Boys sub 1/2moa. We strive for sub half but we all know that extremely difficult. To earn our patch you have to cold bore shoot a 5” disc one try. One chance each range trip. We have had so many marines try with scoped rifles and fail. So many regular guys fail. Many many accomplished shooters fail.
People don’t realize how difficult 500 can be when you start implementing precision hits.
You messed that second kid up he might have gotten all
The first guy did a great job considering
Lol the guy with the MPA blue chassis who failed at Texas Plinking because of “the kestrel” is still there 😂
How those guys dont seem to catch those mistakes is beyond me, youre heading out hours from home to be on a youtube vid but you somehow dont have the slightest idea of what youre actual dope may be at 1k?? Environmentals aside cmon man you gotta check your dope for distance and atleast have it memorized for your load a week beforehand and double check it while youre waiting your turn to shoot lol
So tempted to copy this at Peak View Range
Way to call 'em out Erik. Sad to see the keyboard Warriors infiltrated the United States Marine Corps
😂
Great shooting, but this would be sooo much more interesting if they scored the competition by letting shooters continue to fire at the progressively smaller targets until they get a hit. Every time there was a miss, and the shooter had to go back to the big targets at the beginning, it was a letdown and made me wish the rules were different and less boring. Just a comment from someone new to the channel. Thanks.
Watch the new one. Rules have been updated.
Hey Erik, what about an Iron's only version just for funsies?? 6 MOA target to a 1 MOA target at whatever range, just for giggles and grins. Could even make it 22LR only at 100. I think it would be a hoot.
You used to have load development videos, I thought I had downloaded in the Patreon days, but I cannot seem to find them. Are they gone?
No, they are still there.
You can also find them on my website on the members area. ShootSmallGroups.com
You can't reason with jarheads.
What i am seeing over and over with theses custom rifles is they really dont feed well. Is it the magazines or the over length rounds... not sure why they feed so badly.
Most customs you need to tune your mags to feed smoothly
Saying he hit wrong target very bad call
All these guys saying they can hit 500y with iron sights, but they don't mention target size or wind conditions.
Yeah, that makes a difference for sure.
Is my calculation correct? 2 inches at 500 yards is 0.38 moa. Add in wind, and is it more luck than skill?
The luckiest person in the World can’t hit that target if they don’t know what they are doing.
@@ErikCortina Yes, I thought about it. It takes a good reload, a good wind call, a good trigger pull all at the same shot. Thanks for putting me straight Erik
The wind was interesting. It looked like 180 degrees of direction change over the distance. There's always someone out there on the interwebs that claims to have shot flies off of a cows ass at 1000 yards and cow just kept on grazing... or something like that. I've been voting even though they are a pita to deal with (slow website)
How are the plates connected to the rubber
Oh what the heck, lets get married and have a son named Eric. No big deal no sweat. Remember that toon? $5,000 to name that tune Mr. Cortina. lmfao.
Nice watching this comp but don't think that the guys should start over though. Rather shorten the time?
Watch the new episode. New rules. :)
The blue gun redeemed itself big time! I watched that gun eat shit the other day on the Texas Moa challenge at 1k!! Glad to see him get a little redemption!! And major props for having the balls too do these challenges! 👍👍
Derek is a solid shooter.
I’ll kick in 1k on top of that 5k for the iron shooter.
😂
I'm a vet a can tell you you will not loose 5k
I highly recommend not touching your wind dial while actively shooting.
I only dial wind for movers to have same wind hold both directions.
My pst gen 2 self identifies as iron sights
