    I Bought a BROKEN Xbox Series X for $342 - Can I Fix It?! I bought this back in May of 2022 - when $342 was a pretty good price for a used Xbox Series X. While it would turn on it wouldn't even try to take a disc so, of course, I had to take it apart. When I took it apart I found a lot more issues than I was expecting.

    I cannot believe it powered on after seeing all that damage! In some videos, one tiny bit of corrosion can kill a system, but here, all the corrosion was for the most part not crippling. Incredible.

      Microsoft's engineers did an awesome job with the Series X. Even here most liquid was kept away from the internal components (except for the disk drive).

    • @vgamesx1
      @vgamesx1 Год назад +16

      It's kinda understandable, if something gets wet and is powered for just a quick second, it can run power where it isn't supposed to, easily killing something important, but if it just sits and dries off, that may or may not cause issues partly depending on how corrosive it is.

    Also, the disc drives have 2 or more chips, and the quad flat square package is the main diskdrive microcontroller and its married to the xbox motherboard but the other chip, a texas instruments motor driver chip (drives laser assembly) is replaceable. A tip! searching up the numbers and data sheet of the chips always helps cause the custom microsoft arm chip does not show up results but the texas instruments one does, also when the chip has a metal square in the middle it means its a power chip (heat dissapator) and can be replaced, hope this info helps :)

      @pranavkolluri Год назад

      @@vgamesx1 I mean the disk drive on the 360 was a major way to mod the software on the console... there's a reason that hasn't happened on the xbox one and onwards. If it had I assure you there would have been legions of people using the Series X as a desktop pc. To be *very* clear, there absolutely should be a way to get verified parts to replace stuff like this and a method to re-pair the parts. But this is a case where having pairing at all at least can be somewhat justified

On top of that it has a burn in time of 200 hours before it's optimal? Why not Use MX4, NTH1, Master Gel, or a dozen other carbon based pastes that have neither of those caveats and are cheaper and perform better.

    I think Microsoft should have made a service mode procedure to marry a new disc drive to the motherboard.
    Example. I repair copiers and printers for a living. I repaired a Kyocera TASKalfa copier where I had to replace the main board. There was a procedure I had to simply execute in the maintenance mode so that the engine board and main board serial numbers would match. Really simple. The new main board copied over the serial number from the engine board without issue.

    • @Newerawe
      @Newerawe Год назад +1

      @@robertt9342 actually no. The basic thing about console protection is that you cannot extract these keys. You have 2 private keys for doing a handshake. Keys matched - good drive. Keys unmatched - replaced drive or changed firmware. If a console is capable of extracting those keys, then hackers can do it either, so it is kinda useless.
      For example, on PS3 hackers managed to find private key because NVIDIA fault. Result - you can do with console whateverer you want.

Beach homes have all kinds of crazy corrosion you would never imagine. Perhaps the thing was used outside on a beach house porch for awhile and and maybe a muddy wave crashed over it one day. So it wasn't fully submerged, but got some muddy water inside. And the rest was just from use near a body of salt water. Holy Schmitt! That was a LOT of Corrosion! I'm a bit shocked, really. Moreso over the fact the damned thing booted in the first place. Nice Job!

    Dang, with all those issues, good thing GameStop didn't try to "fix it" first. There would be a dead hamster on a wheel inside.

    I am honestly amazed that this xbox even turned on at all
    with all that corrosion you'd expect any device to fail instantly but that proves that many Xboxes are just built like literal TANKS
    but with that I have to honestly just say WOW how did that even work. I was genuinely expecting nothing more than a puff of smoke from the power supply. but instead it proved me more wrong by being FULLY FUNCTIONAL even after supposedly being destroyed internally.
    oh well just put the perfect amount of thermal paste on the CPU and game on that thing in the condition it's in. Don't worry I've seen much worse.

    Didn't you have an ultrasonic cleaner? With IPA in it could clean these kind of mess within a few second.
    We used a smaller one in a waterpump factory's electronic assembly for final cleaning after the manual big part solder and final test (at our site before the proper assembly).

    It’s probably from one of the hurricanes and was in a flood, at least that would be my guess since it has mud in it

    Well, that MS/Sony thing of pairing drive to mobo is almost certain some form of anti-tampering/anti-piracy feature. And trust me, doing all that stuff is, effectively, a waste of money - except third parties won't support your platform if you don't do enough of it, unfortunately.
