So here are some interesting facts about One-Winged Angel. Nobuo Uematsu's goal was to make an orchestra track that hit with the same kind of punch as a rock song, he also had never trained with, nor had he been in an orchestra prior to composing One-Winged Angel. One-Winged Angel was the first-ever track in the Final Fantasy series to feature vocals. Nobuo Uematsu used a very unique "puzzle piece" method to compose the song. To quote the man himself: "It felt too boring to start the piece with an introduction, followed by melody A, melody B, a chorus and an ending, like most songs. I wanted to make something different, structurally. So without any preconceptions about how the song would turn out, I wrote down two to four measures of music that popped into my head every day until I got about 20 to 30 different measures. Then I took those different pieces and rearranged them to fit together well. That process of placing these various two-to-four measure pieces of music is how I composed 'One-Winged Angel'."
Honestly, having the knowledge of how the song was composed makes a world of sense with the dramatic differences in sound in each section, but it shows his real talent in still combining them all together into a coherent piece with a very singular feel.
@@WeglowySzowinista You can absolutely appreciate the composition of the music. Nobuo was a master at his craft when he first wrote it. Its just that to fully appreciate the track you need to watch the cinematic.
The original ff7 soundtrack still sends shivers up my spine. It's so nice to see your reaction hearing these tracks and appreciation of them. And when you hear an actual orchestra performing them...
"One Winged Angel" is a masterpiece and it is the most famous/popular song in the Final Fantasy franchise. FF7 is also the most popular and the most sold FF game.
And keep in mind that ALL of these are from a 23yro Old game on PS1, in midi... And to this day, they are still amongst the best Soundtracks a game has ever had. And the FF7 remake versions are just Stupidly good, its ridiculous how good the remixes and new versions are...
I swear that if you continue to do these kinds of videos reacting to Final Fantasy VII soundtracks I will watch them all. As someone who absolutely loves "video-game music" a.k.a. music, and Final Fantasy VII being my absolute favorite game of all time, it's lovely to see someone with no previous knowledge of the musical score who can still appreciate the mastercraft and love that was put into every single one of these tracks, it's also a bonus that you know enough of this craft yourself, being a musician and all, that you can then dissect and go through each piece and show why it's good or not so good, and what it did right or it did wrong. Just to name a few more tracks worth giving a listen to (but it's oh so hard to name just a few, because I honestly believe that pretty much all of Final Fantasy VII's score is divine levels of good): - "Those Who Fight" (this is the standard battle theme) - "Those Who Fight Further" (this is the standard boss battle theme) - "Main Theme Of Final Fantasy VII" (pretty self-explanatory, it's also the theme of the protagonist - Cloud Strife) - "J-E-N-O-V-A" (this one is the boss battle theme of a character of the same name - Jenova) - "Aerith's Theme" (also pretty self-explanatory, the theme of the character - Aerith) And there are many more other tracks, not just from Final Fantasy VII but from the rest of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, that are also great as well like from Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core (prequel game) and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (CGI movie sequel). P.S. - Just now noticed that you've also done a video like this on Shadow Of The Colossus, and I kid you not that is my 2nd favorite game of all time, what are the chances of that, wow, I'm gonna watch that next. xD I guess that you can kinda see now how I like my games - a perfect mixture between awesome story-telling and a beautiful soundtrack that work together to deliver an unforgettable experience.
Thank you so much for your comment. I've been wanting to do more, but I had the impression that there wasn't a lot of interest for that type of content. I'm going to take inspiration from this and retake this series and react to all sorts of videogame music 😃
This game was released in 1997, 22 years ago and the music is still iconic. I have the soundtracks for this game and FFVIII on my iPod to this day, and when my wife and I got married 5 years ago we used some of the soundtrack pieces in the ceremony. Can't wait to see how they're interpreted in the upcoming remake.
@@AtlasBenighted for most of them, yes He didnt made the music for 14 and a few other parts like the mobile games but his music was the inspiration for All the known arrangements and remix es used in other games
@@AtlasBenighted He did all of them himself up to 9, then he collaborated with two other composers for 10's score. From then onwards, he went freelance and usually only contributes a bit here and there, doing some music for 11, the ending vocal song for 12, a song and some pieces for 15's DLC, and so on. He did do the full score of 14's INITIAL version (the one that turned out to be a really unpolished game), but the music for the rebooted version people play nowadays was done by other composers. His latest collaboration with SE will be the VII Remake's score. It's uncertain if he'll be rearranging everything by himself or if it'll be a team up like with FF10, though.
@@Sawngawkuh He also did some later pieces for Final Fantasy XIV, including the fantastic "Dragonsong", which is the main theme for the first expansion.
@@mrlokalist ACTUALLY! Uematsu did do the music to the original FF 14. After that game went down and they remade it, his apprentice, Soken, took over. Uematsu still dabbled in FF 14 here and there, like he composed the main themes for the expansions Heavensward and Stormblood. As for games he didn't compose at all, he didn't work on FF 12, any of the FF 13 games, and FF 15. But all the Final Fantasy's numbered 10 and below, he's responsible for.
The character graphics are rudimentary and there is no voice acting, so the story is very much told through the music. They did a really great job with it.
Worth noting that the "sors immanis, et inanis" bit the choir sings is the melody of Sephiroth's leitmotif, "Those Chosen by the Planet." It pops up in a number of other pieces throughout the game's score, such as "Weapon Attacks," and "Birth of a God," the battle theme that's played before "One-Winged Angel."
Wow. At the beginning they had him listen to just the FIRST and LAST songs of the game. Just listen to the opening and ending songs and you get a sense for how epic this game really was (excluding the opening title screen and credits/closing cinematic flavor music)
Really fun to get your professional take! I remember how blown away I was when this section started and hearing the martial march bit. Made my anxiety flare up and then as soon as the singing started it was just pure epic (game music at that time didn't tend to have real voices as it was all Midi so I was not expecting it). Then Advent Children trailers with the pure orchestra version came out and then in the movie it was an amazing mix of orchestra / metal.
There mainly 2 strong emotions that i feel while i'm listening to One winged angel. First is an overwhelming sense of dread Second is a literal fear of death. Seeing how the final boss Sephiroth is supposed to be a godlike villian. I'd say Nobuo Uematsu nailed his theme song. Truly legendary.
I love that moment when the bell hits and pieces from "Those Chosen By The Planet" is intertwined. I get chills from the whole song but that little bit is chills on chills. F_cking legendary. My favorite game of all time. I was 11 in 97 and was fortunate to get the game. I had a lot of bad things going on in my life during the years afterward and the game was my way of escaping, finding peace and giving meaning to my life. It changed my life forever. I don't care if it sounds silly or whatever. I am who I am and I'm glad to be the person I've become.
This is also the *ONLY* song Nobuo composed the way he did when he did one wing angel. He came up with sections out of no where in his head. Just letting the feeling flow. Then when he had like 4-5 sections that he felt were right, he then tried to put them together and generated the patchwork to connect them. He's never made a song that way before... or after. I say he *channeled* this one. The rest are composed... this one was invoked.
@@SobrietyandSolace I don't understand what you are trying to correct. I never referred to it as a "symphony" or a "Piece" at all.. All I did was related the interview I saw of the creator explaining how he created it. So what are you trying to correct, and why is it directed at me?
@@AtlasBenighted The way he composes, he is not afraid of any instrument he's used some obscure stuff, he experiments with many different soundscapes. He always seems to have the perfect music for the moment, that is rarely annoying (I will say gold saucer theme song after 5 hours on loop is questionable), he has done the score of ff 1 all the way to 13 and more. There is a reason that a game music composer is as famous as he is, at least in gaming community.
I heard/watched a video stating that Koji Kondo is the Mozart of video games music, Uematsu is the Beethoven. I kinda agree with that statement. Maybe it is both.
Great critique. The updated version of One Winged Angel in the Final Fantasy VII Remake game is definitely worth a listen as well. The whole mother (Jenova) obsession that Sephiroth has is indicated in the harsh opening violins and emphasized even more in the Remake version, deliberately bringing to mind the iconic horror theme music from the classic movie Psycho. Sephiroth and psychotic mother-obsessed serial killer Norman Bates have a lot in common, lol.
God, so many years... the feelings this particular game gave us, all those memories, all this excitement. An absolute masterpiece and Uematsu gave his everything to make it memorable.
FFVII just has the best opening of any FF games. You jump right in, with a team of terrorists fighting for the planet. Such an amazing start to an amazing journey.
Yes. And the music that goes with it just makes you so pumped to get the job done and bomb the freaking mako reactor. At the time, this game was such an amazing thing. So epic. So deep.
You might really like the modern arrangements that are used in the remake of the game that released this month. The new ost has been the highlight for many people when talking about the remake.
Honestly this was never trauma inducing for me. Quite the opposite, it was more of an epic final boss theme that while imposing never conveyed a sense of lethal menace. While the fight was visually and audibly bombastic it wasn’t all that difficult, and I remember finishing it (many times) before he could use Supernova. This likely had to do with maxing out my characters, making the final boss rush trivial. But I know that less OP playthroughs would encounter difficultly that would match this theme. I think that the PSX/PS2 Final Fantasies suffered from balancing issues in the end game, and scaled difficulty based on stats/ultimate weapons would’ve made these battles much more satisfying to win. Now, this doesn’t take away anything from the music. Regardless of the balance issues it works effectively at conveying the sense that Sephiroth has obtained the power to end the world, and you must be the ones to take him out.
@@excrono I thnk my issue was this was my first JRPG and I just brashly rushed through it at 11 years old. I got a game over a bunch of times the first time I got up to Jenova and of course had to re-play all the boss fights and then safer Sephiroth comes along and annhilates me several times as well. I think that's why it got to me, lol.
if you ever reacted to the OST for Chrono Cross I would cry my eyes out I feel like it's such a very underrated video game soundtrack and one of the very best.
Wow!!! I'm amazed you guessed the game has science fiction elements just from listening to the opening theme. And that "One Winged Angel" is in fact the theme song for the final boss. Amazing!!!
in the opening theme of FF7 , me , I heard a "locomotive" effect .... and I think its made for the start of the game who start in train :3 (sorry for my english I'm not :x)
Totally agree, “You Can Hear the Cries of the Planet” is one of the best tracks from this score. The atmosphere it creates is surreal and mesmerizing! “Holding my Thoughts in my Heart” is another track that just oozes feeling and atmosphere. I was honestly hoping he’d react to many more cuts from this album because there are so many great compositions that should get his attention.
This is awsome. Honestly I apreciate your opinion, and will you react to another Final Fantasy songs? Maybe Apocalipsis Noctis, Valse di Fantastica (FF15 - Yoko Shimomura) or Dancing mad, Maria and Draco Opera (FF6 - Nobuo Uematsu)? Thanks.
Imagine playing FF3 (6 in Japan) and being amazed by Dancing Mad, then first experiencing the move to 3D, being wowed most of the game, only to finally get to this song and when the vocals kick in... 🤯🤯🤯 I lived downstairs from my cousins house, and I literally turned my Playstation off, ran upstairs, got to the point where this plays again, and we both screamed like little girls in excitement at an NSync concert LOL.
My dad studied Latin in school, and walked by during that fight, and was like "Oh here's what that means!" My brother and I were wowed. We of course brought him into the room for the opening of Super Smash Brothers Brawl.
One Winged Angel is the absolute epitome when it comes to gaming music. Nothing else has ever came close. Uematsu is just insanely good. I was always a Final Fantasy fan, but I remember the first time I heard the Dreadful Fight on FFIV on the SNES in 1991, when I was 10, I just completely fell in love with Uematsu and even more so into Final Fantasies.
[Pre-Chorus] Sors immanis Et inanis Sors immanis Et inanis (Fate, cruel and meaningless)x2 [Chorus] Estuans interius Ira vehementi Estuans interius Ira vehementi (Burning inside with violent anger)x2 [Bridge] Veni, veni, venias Ne me mori facias Veni, veni, venias Ne me mori facias (Come, come, o come, Don’t let me die)x2
From the perspective of the FF series, Nobuo Uematsu really went very experimental with 7. While in VI he had consolidated his orchestral stuff (and it has some really beautiful tunes like Celes' opera and obviously Dancing Mad), I think VII is really cool and stands out because he started to play with synths a lot more (as you guessed, because they started going for a cyberpunk vibe). A good example is the song J-E-N-O-V-A, where it also mixes the orchestral stuff but the main melody is mostly played by a synth. He does it even more in the next game with songs like Man with the Machine Gun (I'm not that much of a fan of VIII but the music is just phenomenal)
FF8's soundtrack is literal genius in my opinion. Even if you didn't like the gameplay or story, you must admit the music was entirely on point. Uematsu put his whole brain into it.
23 years whether it's the 97 original or remake. The soundtrack is just as amazing as ever and still brings tears, it is even better than the game itself. I don't think I'll ever hold a soundtrack as dear to my heart as much as this. React to Dark Souls themes, any of them. Fantastic choir and classical compositions.
FFVII has been described as Science Fantasy. I agree with that description. Your 1st track was the game opening into mission 1. Your last track was Sephiroth's theme, and plays at the last boss in the game. These 2 tracks are FFVII's bookends.
WOW a reaction to one-winged angel by a composer is what I wanted because that is one of the most important theme music of all time, It s so iconic and breathtaking, especially when u play the actual game, I really like the martial beat too, now I figured that it makes sense because Sephiroth is an ex-soldier in the game.
Here are the lyrics in case you are interested. Latin Estuans interius Ira vehementi (x2) Sephiroth! Sephiroth! Estuans interius Ira vehementi (x2) Sephiroth! Sephiroth! i've always appreciated music and the soundtracks for the media i consume, but hearing one winged angel play during the final boss fight was one of the moments that made me really reflect on how powerful a tool music actually is.
Now you see how I felt when I was 11. The visuals and hearing the music made the game phenomenal. The music fit perfect with the story. Like you said the music says how good the game is.
Nobuo Uematsu went absolutely berserk finally having a chance to use real instrument sounds instead of chip tunes and it shows. Like having a thoroughbred racehorse finally allowed to run on its pasture after long and cold winter.
If you ever get a chance play this game and see the music in context, do so. The weight of the games story is carried by its music. The opening is a cinematic masterclass in tone, environments, AND sound! Youll find some of your fondest moments on the game simply fiddling about with your materia and items in the menu while "dear to the heart" plays. Its an amazing experience, with some flaws for sure, but a presentation that is executed flawlessly.
It's pretty apt that you say that bit in the opening theme sounds like a metal riff. Nobuo Uematsu, the composer for Final Fantasy up until the tenth game, actually formed a rock band with several of his coworkers called The Black Mages. They actually played prog-esque rock versions of Uematsu's various compositions, and they were really awesome. Definitely would check them out!
Nobou Uematsu is an absolute powerhouse Composing genius. He has even been in a band called The Black Mages doing remakes of his pieces mostly making them more rocky, Dancing Mad is a great example of this. Fades coz it loops for thise that don't know.
One thing you may want to seek out is the orchestra version of these two songs, you can look them up with Tour de Japon, or any other symphony orchestra. Really shows the insane amount of talent and music Nobuo Uematsu put into this with the limited midi space he had. The first song, is the start of the game, its the music that pulls you in and sets the standard for the rest of the game. One Winged Angel which is Sepiroths theme song, is played at the big final battle against him, but you can see and hear the chaos that Sepiroth portrays in the game with the music arrangement.
It's not a prelude to a Boss Battle. It's the song that plays in the middle of the most Epic Final Boss Battle in Gaming History. Which makes One winged Angle that much more Amazing.
Started watching all these videos (as a super big final fantasy fan), and holy crap this dude is spot on with most of his interpretations. It's honestly super impressive.
LoreAtlas That 2nd Music You Reacted was totally the *BOSS BATTLE* Music (or at the very least, the Talk/introduction of the Boss just before it)... *_"SEPHIROTH!."_* 😆 You should also Check the CGI *Anime Movie* made based on this very Game!. Outstanding OST and CGI Graphics for the Time!. The CGI Graphics still seem to hold up today after all this time... I don't even wanna know how long it took to actually *_RENDER_* the Final Version for one of the First Blu-Ray Disks ... 🤯 I think that they used MIDI/Synthesiser Tracks because of the Console's Limitations (and Game Disk "Space" Limitations for that HUGE RPG) at the Time... The Songs were also designed to be able to be "Looped" if it takes a while to advance to somewhere to Load another one. I just wonder how they put those Choir/Opera Vocals on it... (a ".WAV" File with just the Vocals in it to be Played at Key Parts of the MIDI Song File?...) 🤔 C Ya L8r then!. *;P* .
I remember I saw a CGI movie using the Final Fantasy franchise but I'm not sure if it's the same you're speaking of. It was years and years ago. Yeah, at the time, some games still used tracks in MIDI, but there was already a transition for more developed virtual instruments engines 😄
@@AtlasBenighted Yeah... There were actually 2 CGI Movies back then... But people tend to disregard that 1st weird one that was a bit experimental and had kind of a crappy plot. The other one - *_"Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children"_* - was based closely on FF7. Also had a Great OST based on the ones from the Game. (but movie quality) it actually came out in Late/End 2005. I REALLY don't Fathom the Time it took to _RENDER_ those Blu-Ray HD CGI Graphics with all those CGI Special Effects and Fluidity (slow motions included) that still holds up today for the 100 minute long Movie, specially with the Tech at the Time... 🤯 I highly recommend Seeing it, even today. (in Japanese with English Subtitles - the Japanese Voice Acting scene is "too OP"; there's no real competition with other Countries; + it's the Original Voices so no weird Lip-sync Fails) (even if in streaming sites that are "Not entirely Legal", if need be; finding a "physical copy"/original Blu-Rays is nigh near impossible with now) It's better if You Played the actual Game 1st as You'd understand more of it's context for a lot of things. But many People Love it regardless. It employs one of the Best _"Rule of Cool"_ around, specially for the Sparse Fights + the "BOSS Battle"... And it's still Looks and Sounds Very Beautiful overall. It's Great overall actually... C Ya L8r then!. *;P* .
... And yeah... Nowadays, You can even have Full Orchestras Recordings in Lossless Quality in the Games since they mostly dropped Physical Copies and You have to Download 15+ GB Games from the Net, even in Consoles (that have to be uncompressed after)... 😑 Bye then. .
Thank you for doing this, Its very interesting to hear an analyze from someone who knows music, Loved it! You get to know more about music composing as well. And you are pinpointing details very well. When and why comes those parts- and that sections, and why it´s suggests just that. Just as your other video, great edit. Very excited for the next episode. I think you even can be more dissecting, naming something that could be changed, or exchanged in some scores, that would be interesting.
Thanks Emil! I'm glad this serves you into knowing more about this video game songs that are so beloved and rightfully so. I have done other FF already. I recently did Apocalypsis Noctis!

The talking about the martial bit (I have listened to this song hundreds of times and never picked up on it but YES) this is the theme song for a character who was in the military.
I'm watching your reaction on one winged angel and then I notice the time when you're in the middle of the song time move slow when you're listening one winged angel to your heart.
Great content! You got yourself a new subscriber. FF7 is probably my favorite game of all time so of course I get that nostalgia hit when I hear the music. It's great to see you enjoyed the music even without that nostalgia bias!
I get what you're saying about being happy to listen to it for the first time with more developed musical understanding, but I have to say, as someone who played this at the age of 11, it's also super interesting going back and understanding more of the nuances to the songs you just though was sick as a kid. Great video, thanks for your well crafted thoughs :D
Oh man you know you just opened Pandora's box with this reaction. All tracks from Final Fantasy VII are amazing, I remember watching my brother playing it when I was a kid, I didn't understand anything but the music stayed with me forever. You should definitely play the game and see how the music enhance every moment while playing. There are so many amazing OST for console only games, they are too many to count. Some of my personal favourites are all final fantasy ost by Nobuo Uematsu, Journey, Shadow of the Colossus, Nier and Nier Automata, Final Fantasy type-0 (by Takaheru Ishimoto), anything from Yoko Shimomura (all kingdom hearts games, xenoblade chronicles and radiant historia), Persona 3 and 5, pretty much all Zelda games, The Silver Case (so weird but amazing), the Phoenix Wright games and The world ends with you.
I'm quite curious about the Journey one because I talked about the ABZU music in one of my videos, and Journey have some of the same people that worked in ABZU
@@AtlasBenighted yes, Austin Wintory is the composer of both soundtracks. I actually think the journey soundtrack is a "journey" on itself, my advice if you're going to listen to it is to actually listen to the whole thing start to finish, it's like a modern classical instrumental opera, it tells a story with its music.
At least three years late, but never loses its relevance. Nobuo Uematsu was the soul composer for the franchise from the first back in 86 (i think, may have been 87) through to IX (9) in 2001. He has a gift in his compositions to always come up with the perfect piece for the situation. If the piece feels plain or lacklustre, it's usually because the part he's composing for is very much the same. There is never a piece that feels out of place. Every soundtrack he's worked on has been a 10/10. Uematsu is a legend. One of the GOATs of video game music.
Nobuo Uematsu in general! I have a top 15 list of all my favourite video game music. FF7 isn´t even featured on there, if any I would have considered Don of the Slums or Listen to the Cries of the Planet! Final Fantasy 8 had some great music as well and The Castle theme made it on my list. But FF9 still had the highest ranking with it´s normal battle theme #1!

All the years it has been since FF7 and I still can't listen to One Winged Angel without getting goosebumps. I'd also like to add it's criminal that you haven't reacted to the remake version of this song.
The intro theme song gives me goosebumps every single time I hear it. Even in the remake it just made me giddy with excitement. I was 14 when FF7 came out, and I have been playing it ever since.
I love how you break down each composition. Please analyze God Diva from the Dot Hack series! I would love to see your breakdown of this eccentric piece.

This was a great review! I absolutely love One Winged Angel. I hope you’ll consider covering God Shattering Star from Fire Emblem Three Houses, a game that just released a year ago. It’s not Final Fantasy, but it’s amazing and has become very popular. It’s legendary among Fire Emblem fans. :)
So, you react to unspecific game soundtracks as well? Well, if you're looking for a more bizarre OST, there's an indie game that's simply titled *OFF* and it has a very interesting, surreal soundtrack. The game is by an individual called Mortis Ghost, and the soundtrack is done by one Alias Conrad Coldwood. Particular tracks I'd recommend are the main battle theme, Peper Steak; the title theme, Fourteen Residents; and one of the boss fight themes, Minuit à Fond la Caisse. Also, if you're by chance interested in the game itself, it's free for download on PC. I honestly don't think I've ever heard a game that sounds quite like it.

Progressive rock is definitely a huge influence on Uematsu's body of work, in particular Pink Floyd.
To quote the man himself:
"It felt too boring to start the piece with an introduction, followed by melody A, melody B, a chorus and an ending, like most songs.
I've used that puzzle technique and I didn't even know that was a technique at all!
Honestly, having the knowledge of how the song was composed makes a world of sense with the dramatic differences in sound in each section, but it shows his real talent in still combining them all together into a coherent piece with a very singular feel.
That's really awesome!

Thanks!
Super appreciate that
I swear that if you continue to do these kinds of videos reacting to Final Fantasy VII soundtracks I will watch them all.
Just to name a few more tracks worth giving a listen to (but it's oh so hard to name just a few, because I honestly believe that pretty much all of Final Fantasy VII's score is divine levels of good):
- "Those Who Fight" (this is the standard battle theme)
- "Those Who Fight Further" (this is the standard boss battle theme)
- "Main Theme Of Final Fantasy VII" (pretty self-explanatory, it's also the theme of the protagonist - Cloud Strife)
- "J-E-N-O-V-A" (this one is the boss battle theme of a character of the same name - Jenova)
- "Aerith's Theme" (also pretty self-explanatory, the theme of the character - Aerith)
And there are many more other tracks, not just from Final Fantasy VII but from the rest of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, that are also great as well like from Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core (prequel game) and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (CGI movie sequel).
P.S. - Just now noticed that you've also done a video like this on Shadow Of The Colossus, and I kid you not that is my 2nd favorite game of all time, what are the chances of that, wow, I'm gonna watch that next. xD
I guess that you can kinda see now how I like my games - a perfect mixture between awesome story-telling and a beautiful soundtrack that work together to deliver an unforgettable experience.
Talk about a legendary legacy that now is a wedding song 😄
Just hearing the first few measures from the opening track is always such an immense nostalgia punch to the gut. Some of my best childhood memories
Nobuo Uematsu did a very good Job when he wrote the music to Final Fantasy
He writes the music for all the games?
@@AtlasBenighted for most of them, yes
He didnt made the music for 14 and a few other parts like the mobile games but his music was the inspiration for All the known arrangements and remix es used in other games

SEPHIROTH!!!!
Thanks mate! I'm going to do more FF music reactions in the future!
There mainly 2 strong emotions that i feel while i'm listening to One winged angel.
First is an overwhelming sense of dread
Second is a literal fear of death.
Seeing how the final boss Sephiroth is supposed to be a godlike villian. I'd say Nobuo Uematsu nailed his theme song.
Truly legendary.
True that!
Funny that you said it reminds you of a metal riff. They made a metal version of One Winged Angel for the movie Fanal Fantasy VII Advent Children.
Yeah the AC version very much has symphonic Metal vibes
Opening/bombing mission always makes me teary eyed
The feels are real
Why do i get nervious when i hear one winged angel?
That's what the music wants to evoke. Emotion!

😆 you certainly hold him in high regard!
It blows my mind that they were able to make such interesting and distinct music using MIDI instruments.
To this day i still get chills everytime I hear one winged angel. 🤯
I'm familiar with the feels 😄
some people will never understand the greatnes of this music, of what u see and feel

@@WhiteHawk77 Post Traumatic Sephiroth Despair

Thanks.
Thank you Isabella. Well, I'm open to do more! I love video games and of course breaking down more music from games would be fun!
+1 for Dancing Mad
Now imagine you were 10 or 12 years old and you heard this stuff for the first time. I remember it like it was yesterday.

Great songs indeed
Imagine playing FF3 (6 in Japan) and being amazed by Dancing Mad, then first experiencing the move to 3D, being wowed most of the game, only to finally get to this song and when the vocals kick in... 🤯🤯🤯
I lived downstairs from my cousins house, and I literally turned my Playstation off, ran upstairs, got to the point where this plays again, and we both screamed like little girls in excitement at an NSync concert LOL.
My dad studied Latin in school, and walked by during that fight, and was like "Oh here's what that means!" My brother and I were wowed. We of course brought him into the room for the opening of Super Smash Brothers Brawl.

Uematsu is just insanely good. I was always a Final Fantasy fan, but I remember the first time I heard the Dreadful Fight on FFIV on the SNES in 1991, when I was 10, I just completely fell in love with Uematsu and even more so into Final Fantasies.

The opening of One Winged Angel is the opening of Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix.
Yeah, I'm discovering all this things in the music too
FF8's soundtrack is literal genius in my opinion. Even if you didn't like the gameplay or story, you must admit the music was entirely on point. Uematsu put his whole brain into it.
@@botanbutton yes, I think the cinematic aspects of FF8 (music, cutscenes, etc) are all really well done. Sadly everything else I can't stomach.

Allrighty then!
WOW a reaction to one-winged angel by a composer is what I wanted because that is one of the most important theme music of all time, It s so iconic and breathtaking, especially when u play the actual game, I really like the martial beat too, now I figured that it makes sense because Sephiroth is an ex-soldier in the game.

i've always appreciated music and the soundtracks for the media i consume, but hearing one winged angel play during the final boss fight was one of the moments that made me really reflect on how powerful a tool music actually is.
Oh, Jenova is a good one as well
I just killed her in the game!
That is awesome!
Yes, the music is crafted to the degree I could interpret that even without playing the game. That's how good it is!
I liked watching him smile at so many different times during the video
Wow so much nostalgia comes to me from this video thanks!

I'm quite curious about the Journey one because I talked about the ABZU music in one of my videos, and Journey have some of the same people that worked in ABZU
@@AtlasBenighted yes, Austin Wintory is the composer of both soundtracks. I actually think the journey soundtrack is a "journey" on itself, my advice if you're going to listen to it is to actually listen to the whole thing start to finish, it's like a modern classical instrumental opera, it tells a story with its music.
one winged angel is simply something else
True that!
That's why FFVII is a beloved classic. That music never gets old. Masterpiece.

I'm late to the party, but I'm loving these videos. If love to see you do a lets play of the final fantasy games. Mostly to see your reaction to the music in game as it was ment to be heard. Ive always been a beliver that a good game and it's music is very operatic. Hope you and everyone has a wonderful new year.
You are just in time, Happy New Year mate!
All the years it has been since FF7 and I still can't listen to One Winged Angel without getting goosebumps. I'd also like to add it's criminal that you haven't reacted to the remake version of this song.
I am a criminal
@@AtlasBenighted have you heard the advent children one?
The intro theme song gives me goosebumps every single time I hear it. Even in the remake it just made me giddy with excitement. I was 14 when FF7 came out, and I have been playing it ever since.
That's great! I came quite late into the party, but I can see why this game is so beloved
I love how you break down each composition. Please analyze God Diva from the Dot Hack series! I would love to see your breakdown of this eccentric piece.
Only second video I've watched so far, love everything, if you're really into video games and haven't covered it already Suikoden II has many great great songs.
Thanks mate!
Thumbs up for the physical copy of Focus on the shelf.
You know your stuff mate!
It definitely sounds like a metal riff. Check out "Prelude Bombfare" by Misha Mansoor (bulb/periphery). It's a great metal take on the intro.
Yeah, I know he is pretty big into Final Fantasy
Holy fk been watching ur videos lately. Ur highly intelligent in this category.
😆
The Best Final Fantasy series
Nobuo Uematsu a Legend!!
He is genius indeed!
Fire Emblem, for the life of me I think I've never heard of that video game. Time to research!
