- www.autobytel.c... Autobytel Road-Test Editor Benjamin Hunting recently made a trip to sunny California to test drive the full line up of 2015 Volkswagen Golf Mk7. The German automaker had everything on hand from the ever popular GTI hot hatch to the all new entry level Golf TSI. For those looking for alternative fuel options, VW also had a new TDI diesel powered Golf as well as the next generation battery powered zero emission eGolf.
The Volkswagen GTI will be the first Golf variant to hit our shores. This hatchback has been given a completely new platform, more powerful engine, and exterior makeover. The 2.0 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder now makes 210 horsepower and 258 lb-ft. of torque. This 2015 model is sure to become the hottest hatchback. The MSRP should be around $25,000.
www.autobytel.c... One of the bigger changes that Volkswagen has made with this new Golf is in pricing. Each model is a few thousand dollars cheaper than the last generation in an attempt to attract new consumers. Gone is the 2.5 liter 5-cylinder which has been replaced by a more potent 1.8 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder.
One of the more exotic Golf variants is not coming to the U.S. until 2015. The eGolf at its core this vehicle is just a battery and electric motor placed into a Golf chassis. The range will be about 80-90 miles on a standard charge in normal driving. The electric motor produces 115 horsepower which is plenty. The great thing about the eGolf is there are no compromises. You get everything that a normal Golf would have just that this car is all electric.

Got a Tsi last week and the car does feel highend in fit and finish, just sold my Ford and the quality gap is huge. And at 170 hp and 20 grand less then a GTI I'll take it.
;)
He reminds me of Hyde from that 70s show
Hands down, the BEST review of the 2015 US Golfs thus far. Thanks for giving us proper facts, and good insights into what we can expect in a few short weeks. Cheers!
Pretty good review, wish you would have spoken more about the TDI performance and compared fuel mileage for all 3.
The 2.5 5 cylinder engine is wonderful. I havent driven the MK6 Golf with the 2.5 but the MK5 Rabbit's was great!
I drove the GTi and the base Mini 3cyl turbo today...I gotta say the Mini felt better in almost every way...especially quality of construction.
Can't wait for the Scirocco to come to America...
That "power gap" can be easily solved with a $600 tune.
I dont know what he's talking about. the golf tsi s feels very premium for its price.
Well, tell you what, I got the launch edition which only comes with the 5 speed, the gears are long which kinda sucks. Although, I need to say that if you get something cheap such ass the neuspeed power module for 300 and use 93 octane, let me tell you, I been able to beat a few gtis’ and glis’, it gets fun!! Totally worth it. I got a injen intake and resonator and muffler delete too.
Sounds like the Golf R will finally be an STi fighter
Torsion beam on TDI??? So glad I picked up a 2013 MK6
Benjamin, what are your thoughts on the 5.8 inch radio
did the Golf door get your fingernails?
You have no idea how much the "chassis flex creaking" freaks me out on th GTI. Mine has the panoramic sunroof so it's just worse. And going around long curves that have bumps at speed you do feel the chassis sort of twisting flexing, doing something very creepy that my Audi 2.0t doesn't do. One safety tip is, never ever floor the GTI in a bend, it loses traction even in higher gears especially in wet road conditions obviously.
You mentioned the chip! No review I've seen did that. What's up with the two black nails?
Subscribed after this video. I thought mentioning the chip will get you banned from life. Great job.
Is there an automatic version? Of all of them? One at least one?
What hills are they driving on? I have a Mk6 GTI and need some nice roads to unwind on.
It's a pitty he doesn't go in to that MAGICAL front differential a little more
Great overview, thanks. Regarding the torsion beam suspension in the diesel (11:57), will the IRS re-emerge in the GTD model when it comes stateside? Any word on availability of GTE?
The GTD was canned for the USA!
Steve W Boo!
Like Steve and Zach said - no GTD for the U.S. in the near future, unfortunately.
An electric beetle convertible would be really fun... I'd have to take out a mortgage for one though lol....
Understeer in the new GTI? Discussing the DIFF?
Hey I know you... haha. I've been subscribed to your channel for awhile now.
+Ben Dover Haha, yep that's me! What a coincidence!
He's got nail polish !!!!???? LOL !!! 2:53 !
Sadly IMHO this reviewer clearly talks too much and is very opinionated...
Please allow us the viewers to discover the new model variants and production changes without any personal rants...please don't discuss aftermarket options if you have no interest or actual first hand experience with them..VW/Audi owners and enthusiasts have been working with this tuning option for over a decade and have found tuner friendly dealers and ways to reset to normal factory spec if there is a potential problem...also FYI some aftermarket suspension add-ons actually do enhance the stock components without a large cost or warranty issue....With a starting price of about 18k for a launch edition Golf..the addition of chip/springs can be done for approx $1k and wheels/tires for about another $1,000-1500 depending on size/style and a sleeper low budget Golf with the hp of a GTI is complete below 21k...3-4k less than starting price of a new GTI..Some people want the ability to do what they want and have a lower entry price of which to begin...the same way it has been in years before VW GTI tuned with mods vs a VW Golf R stock or Audi A4 tuned with mods vs Audi S4 stock...
(all the best as you move forward..
Lord have mercy, I can't deal with the irony!
how does one talk too much in a review? Go watch a walk around of the car if you don't want to hear the actual review. He hit almost every key point about the Golf's. From personal experience, if you are only spending about 1k on chip AND suspension, you are not getting the performance you need. chipping the car costs 400-500 and a suspension that costs 500 will only be good for lowering the car. You will destroy your suspensions in the first track session. If you mod your car, expect to lose your warranty. I'm not saying you will but be prepared to be rejected. If the mod part you added is the cause of the problem, then tough luck. Also, this video is only about the golf's. If you want a comparison, there are other videos that compare all the similar vehicle. He gave us pro's and cons for each of the cars. Nothing more to ask for.
CC who spoke of tracking a vehicle?
If you track your vehicle of course your warranty will be voided that is common knowledge stated by any auto manufacturer. Then again, I never stated that as part of my experience.
I am glad you shared your experience but as I stated simple mods enhance the drive feel, not necessarily automatically voiding of a factory warranty. Also if you don't personally research for dealers that are actual enthusiasts you will potentially have problems. My personal experience has benefited not only myself and others that due their due deligence with exploring this possibility...
I was also directly speaking of his specific comments on the Golf 1.8 TSI and his opinion about chosing not to modify it ..Not at all needed IMHO.
Sorry if you or someone you know have had negative experiences. But mine with both Audi/VW dealers have been positive for over 15 years including 4 different vehicles along with the others who clearly understand what I found so frustrating with his comments...
F.Y.I., as resource reference please consider Audi World or VW Vortex and may I wish you the best in your automotive experiences...
Grizzley Peak bitches!!
Everyone likes to bitch. Good overview, keep on keeping on.
This guy is not very intelligent.
Let's compare his reviews to your RUclips channel then....
2014 Mercedes benz CLA only cost $30,000 and it 10x the car then the crap vws
the maintenance is way more expensive tho
Very unprofessional, this guy looks like he lives on a park bench.
