    The suspension is not adjustable. What is adjustable is the throttle input and steering sensitivity. In sport mode the steering becomes heavier and the gas pedal becomes more responsive and the exhaust opens up a chamber. So does the intake. Which is why it sounds louder in the cabin.

    +Sale_Shark Let's just say it was a TOUGH day that day in SF . . . They had all these wonderful toys to play with - EVERY generation of GTI, the new GTI, the Golf TDi and even the eGolf. Sadly, we only had time to film just the two cars . . . the original plan was to shoot the GTI and the diesel. No worries, gives a reason to get the TDi back at the ranch and hand it over to Mean Gene . . . Speaking of, he is getting his grubby paws on the Vanquish on Thursday . . .

    Great video with very useful and clever information done in a very likable style. Kudos.
    For what it's worth, I have a deposit down on the 2015 Golf R. I know. They are not technically taking deposits, but I have done business with this dealer in the past. Anyway, over this past weekend, in an effort to whet my appetite for the Golf R, I drove the 2015 GTI. Wow! Very fun and as you mentioned, "very balanced." I can't imagine the smile on my face when I actually take delivery on the R. Thanks again for the video. Subscribing to your channel now...

    I test drove a 2015 GTi yesterday. The handling and acceleration was very good. The interior wasn't so great: The steering wheel, shifter and turn signal plastic was shockingly cheap, the infotainment screen was not good, the gauges basic no oil temp guage in a turbo car...no sale.

  • @lawrencej6859
    @lawrencej6859 10 лет назад

    How would you compare the GTI four door which I am thinking of buying, to the Mini Cooper coupe?

  • @rexhouseo7010
    @rexhouseo7010 9 лет назад

    I test drove one of these and liked it...except I couldn't really get comfy. I had to lower the seat all the way and lean it back so the rear view mirror didn't block my view. I also had to choose between having my knees in the dash or reaching the steering wheel. Anybody else have this issue?

  • @orackbobama

    I'm not sure if you're getting it in the states, but that adaptive suspension system isn't coming to Canada :(

  • @mgoodman312
    @mgoodman312 10 лет назад

    At the ~8:00 mark, the adjustable suspension is brought up and the video shows the modes available. My understanding is that the GTi includes modes that affect engine response, steering weighting and lighting, but no suspension changes; that that (that being DCC) is an add on to the performance pack that will not be out until late 2014. Can you clarify this point?

    • @MotoManTV
      @MotoManTV  10 лет назад

      You are correct: The system adjusts engine mapping and/or steering. They can be adjusted together or individually as demonstrated. While we drove a Performance Pack car, the one shown in the film where the modes were demonstrated was not fitted with the PP.

    • @mgoodman312
      @mgoodman312 10 лет назад

      That explains the descrepancy. Thanks for the clarification.

    *subscribed*. Very interested in the Mk7 R. Haven't had a VW since my 93 Corrado. You nailed it on the head with "nicer than a 1984 Audi". Actually a 2015 GTI is probably nicer than any Audi in 2000. To me, the new R will be a luxury AWD wagon with a manual transmission that just happens to be a bit shorter than most wagons. It's not a city car or an economy car, it's a luxury do-it-all machine.

    Assuming W is Germany, possibly Wolfsburg? How was the ride with Dynamic Chassis set to sport? Anxiously awaiting getting a 7R next spring. With a stage 1 tune they are getting them to near-959 performance!

    • @MotoManTV
      @MotoManTV  10 лет назад +1

      VERY good eye . . . That number plate is indeed VW's hometown - Wolfsburg. Played around with the Dynamic settings a bit and found the sport setting made the car just a shade more balanced. Not quite as pronounced a difference as in other dual mode set ups. Funny, that segment you see in the film where the pavement gets very rough is when I had the system switched to sport.

      @evankrosney1117 10 лет назад

      No it's not. It's a German plate, if it was Swedish there'd be an "S" underneath the Eurozone symbol, as opposed to the "D". This Golf is from Wolfsburg, Germany.

    GTI is 40% of Golf sales? You mean for US market only, right? I can't imagine it would be anywhere close to that worldwide.

    • @MotoManTV
      @MotoManTV  10 лет назад +2

      You, sir, are correct . . . My bad, I should have clarified that in the film. The numbers I was giving - including the age of the GTI mark - are for the US. The other side of the coin is that the Golf does not sell as many 'base' models as do the Focus et al in the US . . .

    • @buildmorefarms1007
      @buildmorefarms1007 9 лет назад +1

      GTi is 40% of the Golf's sales...because they dont sell all that many regular Golf's...that is another way to interpret that statement.

Im living in Sweden & hoping my delivery to keep its schedule for November, but i heard from someone down in Germany VW factory seems busy nowadays... Sadly, looking like an electronic parking brake . . .

    • @brOblio
      @brOblio 10 лет назад

      MotoManTV Mondo bummer dude... Is it because the Rs are shipped over from Germany? If they are being built with all the other Golf Rs that already have electronic parking brakes then I guess it would make sense financially. As for what this car is and what it stands for though I really don't understand why they could not at least make the electronic parking brake an option. I guess I will not be getting this car after all.

    40% of sales? I wonder how much of that 40% is with the DSG, without the DSG I have a suspicion the GTI would make up about the same % as the Focus ST, Mazdaspeed3, etc.

    • @MotoManTV
      @MotoManTV  10 лет назад

      Actually, not. What I should have been more clear about in the film is that the Focus and the Mazda sell more units overall per month, which is one - but *not* all of the reasons for the high % of sales of the go fast model.

      I've always wondered why vw didnt push the bar more than they did. They could have easily given this thing 50 more hp to the wheels with out much more cost and they just didnt. Imagine how much more they would have sold if they had something that could actually compete with the evos and stis. Even the r falls short of competing with those. For no reason.
