    On the topic of nail gun:
    It appears that I have now DISCOVERED that Jacob Probably was a theater kid/tech theater kid who, at some point, learned that you could 'fire' the nail gun by pulling back on the safety spring and was disappointed to discover how shit nail guns are at firing stuff.

    • @HejC8xmRICWgUCj1dhPvhTFX
      @HejC8xmRICWgUCj1dhPvhTFX 3 года назад

      @@hankhill5913 "Even if you modify a nailgun to shoot out nails which I suppose you could do by removing some safety features, a nail isn't ballistically viable enough to actually travel in a straight line and mantain enough force to stick into anything"
      That sentence is why I posted the name of that video so he could see for himself it can be done. And the video I linked isn't "melee", it's "point blank". Truly not the same thing. A .45 point blank shot can kill you, meleeing with it is much less likely to. Aside from that, I linked that video specifically to show what it can do to the human body, that's what Ballistic Dummies are for.
      Lastly, if you still have any doubts, check "We Modded A Nailgun......" made by OffTheRanch. On that video they're showing a regular air compressed nailgun, not powder-activated, and hitting a wooden plank with it from a distance.
      It can totally be life threatening. It'd be worse than bb guns, which can kill too.

    • @hankhill5913
      @hankhill5913 3 года назад +3

      @@HejC8xmRICWgUCj1dhPvhTFX If you watched the video you linked, you would see none of the nails hit the bullseye even while the target was non-moving. And I wouldn't really call what they have a "regular air compressed nailgun". They had an external air-compressor which in my experience with nailguns is not at all typical. On top of this, that makes it nearly non-portable, and even if you mounted the compressor on the back it would be fairly heavy and mess even further with the aim.
      As for saying "I linked that video specifically to show what it can do to the human body, that's what Ballistic Dummies are for", my argument was that it's not a realistic portrayal of how it would actually be used in a real encounter, since the force exerted at point blank range would naturally be much more. There's also a serious lack of a skin analogue, which plays a big part in how much force a penetrating object can impart. Also, the "ballistically viable" part wasn't being tested at all in the video, which as we saw, when it was in the new video you sent, it wasn't very effective. It may be due to the excessive power from the air pump, but then again I very highly doubt that without that extreme pressure it would be able to penetrate wood in the first place.
      Also, getting semantic with the definition of "melee" serves no actual purpose in this discussion, since A) we both know what I was talking about and B) melee includes everything from close-range (think 5ft away or 1 person's length) to point blank. So even your semantic point was incorrect.
      As for BB's killing you, yeah. They CAN. But something being ABLE to kill you MAYBE doesn't make it an EFFECTIVE weapon. If you're at melee range a knife would be better, especially against a resisting, moving target. Even if you did get a hit in, it's doubtful even a highly trained marksman could consistently hit a vital point, and I'd wager they would have trouble consistently getting shots in against a resisting, moving target.
      In summary, I want it to be known that I rewrote this comment twice because I can and will out-autism you here.

    You can modify an industrial staple gun into poor ranged weapon that will get you written up and almost fired because some little baby hated getting a staple barely stuck in his leg from 10 feet away. Barely left a mark. So unless it is a write up and mandatory drug test you are looking for, than a nail gun isn't going to do it.

    Dude, spot on review, literally spot on, well done… Like you I’m a deeply devoted survival horror player… I literally was gifted the original RE1 for the Christmas it came out by my parents at age 9 and it sincerely blew me away… nothing has yet to do that to me again. But, this game is a fantastic homage to that late 90’s Golden Age of Survival Horror. It didn’t blow me awAy but it is extremely refreshing and enjoyable to the point where I want to play every new game these devs make. Also, I have a feeling this is just the first very good spark ⚡️ to help ignite a big resurgence of the genre. Thanks to games like RE7 and RE2 remake Doing such a great job we’ll see a new and improved era for the genre and these Gen Zer’s will finally realize what they missed out on during what I would call gaming’s greatest time period.

      Honestly we might but maybe not , As a Gen Z I get this was made for an older audience and to pay homage to older Survival horror, I actually kinda like it. However, my issue with it was not the story or the puzzles, but rather the Fixed Camera Angles. I know it's a major part of old survival horror which were the technical limitations at the time. But every. single. time I was moving down the hall and the camera changed, I kept running into things. It wasn't bad at first but then it got very irritating over time, and the angle really messed with my head that I had to take breaks from the game periodically. Don't get me wrong its not a bad game, however, I really just don't like the Fixed camera angles. If people want do Fixed camera angles, fine, just dont go crazy with it like it did in this game

      @@dabihwow5550 hey, that’s ambitious and hard to do so even getting it done is an accomplishment for indie Devs… Lmk how it’s coming along, I was actually thinking about creating one myself over the past few years but I’m not capable of actually creating a game lol, instead the idea, the story, and especially the formula for what the right balance of gameplay loop would make for a true survival horror masterpiece… I think a lot of devs, especially indie devs, tend to use the “psychological horror” formula that Frictional games made so popular and it’s kind of getting redundant.

    • @Dread_Cast
      @Dread_Cast 2 года назад

      @@dabihwow5550 … I understand why they do it, it’s a much simpler formula, many of them border walking sim territory so it can get old fast, that’s why those games are usually very short… But, survival horror needs certain elements to be a quality game of the genre. Like Combat at some degree is very important, obviously Exploration, plot threads through cutscenes/notes etc. but most of all I think the puzzles are a key ingredient to the genre and I feel like that’s what’s been lacking the most lately, even in the RE titles… I’m sure there’s ppl who don’t care for puzzles but the true OG diehard SH fans know it to be a staple in these games. Rather them hinder the experience, I think puzzles actually raise it to a new level adding a layer that needs some brain power as well as breaking up the gameplay loop significantly in a positive way. It gives players a brief respite from combat and it adds just a whole different obstacle to the games. It also fills a void that otherwise needs to be filled in by more exploration (which tends to dominate the experience of many horror games today) or with more combat which hurts the game bc it then starts to tilt to more action oriented and takes away the horror factor the higher the action gets… I’m rambling lol, anyway I think there’s a fine tunes balance between alll these elements and it’s taken me a long time to figure out what that is, but I think I have a decent idea for the formula:
      - 40-45% exploration (notes included)
      - 25-30% combat
      - 15-20% narrative threads (cutscenes)
      - 15-20% puzzles
      … Something like that feels like a nice balance to keep people on their toes + you throw in high quality rewards after big boss fights and stuff, like RE7 did so well… that’s it lol and then I believe the run time can be upwards of 20-30 hours so it’s truly a worthwhile experience.

    Hey you should check out Year Walk, it's an extremely underrated horror game based on Swedish folklore, plays like an adventure game like "Myst", and has a really interesting story.
    It's only about 2-3 hours on a first play but it's so good and highly worth it and it's one of my personal favorite games of all time. Would love to see you cover and review it (good or bad 😂)

    Personally the puzzles are my biggest issue, some were cryptic as fuck.
    The V/A is bad intentionally i believe but still, it took me out of the experience.
    the variety of enemies gets boring after a while.
    The pursuer was a joke.
    BUT, i still had a blast playing it , i cant recommend it enough.
    Great athmosphere, great music, decent story, great tension, decent combat (for a while at least)
    Not to mention its an indie game .
    I really enjoyed it, give it a chance people.

    Somehow I completely missed hearing anything about this game - wishlisted now! +1 to other comments that mention Song of Horror - great 90s survival horror vibes.
    Just in time for October, I'd also really suggest that you play and review No one lives under the lighthouse for the channel. It has a similar surreal horror vibe as the game Pagan Autogeny which you reviewed earlier this year. It's got a bit of Lovecraft in it as well, plus all the achievements are named after the Major Arcana. The game recently got an update/expansion that changes a ton of things around (although the original game is still able to be played as well). Can't recommend it enough.

    I didn't know that about the pursuer, so I had to deal with it. I have a video when I got stuck with that enemy and died :(
    I loved this game I played non stop until I finished it.
    The lighting on the MC is weird, the rest is great.

    I understand why the nail gun would upset you. Suspension of disbelief and all. it is stupid but I've always liked the idea of it kind of like Isaac in his engineering tools only much less effective lol.

    I can see why people do the detached cynical irony -thing. Pretty OP cosmetic if you ask me. You can get sponsored by raid fucking sellout legends and it's just kinda funny.
    I even deliberately watched the ad to see if you said something witty instead of letting an addon skip past it...

      I thought the "it's free, but they can afford to pay me to talk about it, do the math", "you can read a book while 'playing' it, which is good because books are more entertaining", and "as long as you give it computer cycles and access to your system memory, it'll level you up, you don't even have to do anything" came across pretty well.
