✅ About jlwii2000:
When I started my channel I did not choose a catchy name because I did not think that I would be a major model railroading video source one day, so I apologize for the strange name. My channel has a variety of info about Model Railroading in many scales, primarily HO scale. I try to respond to everyone's questions to help them along with their journey. Overall, I hope my relaxed yet descriptive approach to modeling will assist those new and old in this great hobby. - James

I don't care what the naysayers write, this is where Rule 1 applies : this is your layout and therefore you model what you want. I like what you have achieved so far and I would be interested to see how far you have come with this terminal like railway. Keep up the good work.
Cheers, Gary.
I don't get why this video has 48 dislikes at time of writing this comment. What's not to like? Loads of work has gone in to it, nice locos, full sound, inventive ideas, nice control panel. Odd.
Rob Lindley maybe the dislikes are from jealous people
+Rob Lindley Model in N Gauge, and you get twice as much in. This wasn't mentioned. Therefore DISLIKE.
+TheBrantfordRailfan Probably so. Never knock someone for trying. Perhaps someday these guys will have a layout that the naysayers will envy.
Lionel is without a doubt the best in sound replication .
machia0705 The owner would probably agree with me and upon his instruction I would set to work with a heavy axe. I could demolish this in 10 mins.
I enjoy seeing your cousin's ideas for creating layout in a confined space. I'm working on a 4x8 flat surface, and did not realize even less space can be usable.
Nice too see how other people overcome the challenges of small spaces. Thanks for sharing. The Walthers train looks great ans sounds good too.
Its great to get some advice on small space rail layouts - so many wonderful videos on layouts that cover half the house and some of the backyard but for most of us we have a small part of a backroom
the camera lady is my wife and I also have a couple of friends that help with filming from time to time. I do live in Omaha now.
I have spent months studying how to build a railroad layout and found a great resource at Jareks Hobby Club (look it up on google)
Thank you for putting this film together. Putting up my set again after about 10 years of not using them.
Excellent idea here. I just downsized my layout to 10 feet long but only 30 inches wide, this gives me an idea on what to do. Now to get cracking on laying down the track. 👍
ALL railroad layouts are "under construction." There's always one more 5hing to do.😉
Nice work. I am a big fan of the small layout myself. It's challenging when limited on space, but also can be very rewarding. Thanks for sharing.
Good point! Thanks for watching.
Really inspiring. Like to see a progress report in the near future
Lots of people don't keep anything under their bed, there is plenty of space there so why not build a layout with folding legs and store it there?
Thanks! Always enjoy getting tips from others how they do things. I too live in the Omaha area--- Hey- don't forget to come out the Omaha train show the NMRA is putting on at Burke High School this coming weekend - 20-21 April. I'm with the HO Modular group and Freemo group.
I APPRECIATE YOUR VIDEO I HAVE ONLY 84 INCHES x 32 INCHES. STILL NEED TO DEVELOP A TRACK PLAN. I WAS HOPING TO HAVE ONE LOOP, BUT AFTER SEEING YOURS, I MIGHT FOLLOW YOUR IDEA. AND THANKS TO YOUR COUSIN FOR HIS SERVICE. I AM RETIRED AIR FORCE ALSO.
+George Alter Mine is only about 1 inch x 8 inches but I still manage to use it quite a lot. It has a reciprocating action and a nice motion. I am pretend retired air force.
You could eliminate the stick-out control panel, and use that PC and monitor to control your layout with JMRI's (free download software). You are already using DCC, that's have the battle. JMRI is very flexible if you ever want to make changes to your layout, you just edit the screen.
Nice HO layout. I especially love the southern pacific locos. Nice smooth layout!!!
I was getting into HO but my love of antiques took over so I switched over to the dark side. S scale american flyer.
Small can be beautiful and advantages good idea there ,
Thank's guys!, I love model trains!. I am interested in all aspects of the subject, so, this is great, seeing how to use a smaller space with the model trains & the layout. Thank's.
Cool layout. Love the turntable
Are you kidding?? Awesome!!! Like a locomotive showroom!!👍👍👍😎😎😎
really nice setup you showed!
Very cool! I really like how he used his space.
Sweet!! U should build more levels to pull the chain part up to!!
those are nice looking loco's!
I started off with a 4x8 HO layout. In progressive action my layouts have gotten bigger and smaller, based on operating locations. I am currently 90% complete with building a 18x6 model railroad in HO scale. Once complete i will post a clip of my layout on RUclips.
Impressive Locomotive collection
Has your cousin done a update to his layout? I'm about to make a switch/shortline layout myself. This video gets me geeked up!
Nice idea for ones who want to do a shunting layout or shelf layout I'm living in a 2 and half and I have a 12X8 room witch is my living room and sleeping room.,my layout make 12X8 too..4x8 module on one side,26 inches by 92 in the other end,on my wall I have a 8 feet by 1 foot module and the oposite have a 5 by 2 module, and a removable bridge for the other part, this winter I'm expecting rebuilt all the layout and improve it to have 3 mainlines, one combined freight yard,6 track wide,,the 3rd mainline will be not connected in the rest, but will be always accessible..cause one the the main lines will be in DC and separated for the other track I will add a switch back track to climb in the mountain, will allows passenger trains and freight trains to get up the hill and run around the down grade, will include 3 tunnels, few bridges, including plan in DCC,but will have and interconnection track to allows railcars cars to go from one side to the other, with a neutral cut of 9 inches I should do some video of the rebuilt,so I will post in my channel stating mid decenber
Great!. I have a small layout too. It´s a L shaped layout with 2 industries. There´s no mainline only the switching lead and 4 spurs. What about an operations video in small layouts?. It would be interesting.
Very useful video, by the way, thank you for your service!
Great info and creativity for small area
You mentioned that if you are going to drill holes in Plexiglass, to do it very carefully... How about heating a cheap drill bit with a solder torch (as in; gas/flame) while attempting to drill out the holes OR; just simply find a bold that is the same size hole you need to "drill" and heat it up - once heated simply poke a hole through the plexiglass panel.
Great post, as usual. Always interesting to see how other people enjoy the hobby. Am SUPER jealous of all that steam!. Hey.. is that a Southern #4501 Mikado I spy?? Sure does look like it, either that or the Southern #1401.. though that one looks to be the 2-8-2 config.. so likely the #4501.. my all time favorite. Beautiful collection.
Plexiglas takes a special point drill and slow RPM. Another tip it place clear packing tape , and drill small pilot, followed by small increases in diameter..
If your just into the trains and either don't want to do all the work. Or you just don't have the money(or the space witch both usually go quite nicely together) you can just join your local modular layout club witch the members are usually very ok with you bringing your own equipment or just using the clubs custom equipment
I did mine on the same way,I have no room for a 4 by 8 layout,so I built a layout doing all around my room,8 by 12 in all,and my living room are in the center of the layout,I'm acutally in a complete rebuilt project,to replace the layout by a modular layout in the same fashion,I'm expecting to finish the track circuit at the end of January.after, will only need to add gantry and scenery on it
Very encouraging for those of us with limited space! Nicely presented! One question: Where you have the Alligator Clips, would you be better off using Suitcase Connectors? I'm not an electrical guru, so I'm always looking for the best options for wiring up my layout-in-progress. I will solder connections where recommended (especially jumper wires).
Cool setup!
Thanks for posting = the rising board is food for thoughts
Oh boy do those clear plastics love to crack, even with a mill or lathe at very slow speeds with the proper cutters, one needs coolant flowing over it. If you need to drill plexi get a plexi specific bit and use some oil or other lubricant. Once tried to mill and lathe a clear acrylic steam engine for display... it ended up being an aluminum and steel miniature steam engine as I was just struggling with the required setup to get parts in acrylic and plexiglass.
Great layout I'm trying to fit a SantaFe and DRGW on a door
spade connectors. thanks for the video!
I got a north folk and western 428 Berkshire model that I'm trying to get ride of. it has a decoder system and its in good shape may need some minor repairs and cleaning because the last time I ran it we had black surfer if you are interested let me know. If I can find it in my room.
mines a 2'x4' board right now, it's the perfect size for N scale. good video!
That 6051 is nice
What company made those trains, they look high quality
Great work 👍
Amazing Motel Train Layouts
@jlwii2000 funny that you mention a rerun of the SP passenger cars, BLI just announced a full set of SP Daylight cars
He could use a pulley to raise and lower the portion over the monitor, and have multiple levels that are accessible through that portion.
thank you for share this knowledge !
Nice, good work guys
Greats videos sir! Keep em coming!
THIS IS A AMAZING VIDEO
I use to have this type of track until my cousin lost all the pins so i just got a crap load of ez track lol model layout covers my entire basement, 20 engines, =110 cars
Did i read the captions right and your from Omaha? If so im next door in Bellevue!!! lol
when it comes to model railroading, space is very important
Im doing a 12 feet by 8 feet L shape layout which is 18 inches wide
8 foot leg will be yard, 12 foot leg industries with loads of switching options
Nice video
Thanks
clever. nicely done
Can I visit your layout when I come to Omaha next time (I am from Minnesota)? I have family that lives there.
well thank you for your service!
With my sleeping bag I could move in underneath Chris's layout there. That would be a real space saver for him and me.....and everyone's carbon footprint would be......well.....about the same I guess. Now with this carbon on my foot....everywhere I step leaves a trail. It's basically like tracking Sasquatch.
Sweet Video thanks.
I think you could make a lot of money doing Obama impersonations. Your voice and speech pauses are almost there without trying.
Great vid as always BTW! Keep up the great work.
blech71. Why that's so rude
That trains sounds like a full size rig.
how long did you work with nasa because I have plans to work for nasa as a engineer for repairs on space craft and did you do mission control on the space shuttle or any other manned space crafts
Those are some Nice Steam Engines !!!!
What you have is fine. But I don't get it. Is this the entire MRR ? Or does it continue other side of the wall where Daylight exits ? Also why not put the monitor ( and the Merrimack if it's floating near by ) on a lower table instead of the chain rigging thingy ?
From what I can see, those are either bowser roadrailers or some other companys.
I literally made one under my bed
Can you do a tour of yours, I’m trying to build a model train but my room is quite small
Nice steam loco collection.
Nice ......
Thank you.
Im confused as to why you would need the control panel? Isn't the MRC controller a dcc thing? Someone fill me in. Too much track for the space unless your planning to expand later. I would have used the turntable but less tracks to the other board and had a few industries to switch. Put some on the back wall too. As for the computer monitor, perhaps having a building to completely cover the hole would look better then the monitor sticking up through.
I like the turntable, but I'm cringing as I see there's nothing to keep those steamers from rolling off the tracks onto the floor.......yikes!
congratulastions!
n scale is better for a tiny layout but its what you prefer
8.
I like n scale, but it's too small. it's looks like ants.
As you age ‘N’ scale becomes harder to model. Eyesight is the main reason. HO has the most accessories.
If you can’t see n scale try TT scale
Serpentine TT is only European though
I’m trying to make a layout with an are in the middle that I can go in. What type of layout would that be called?
he must now bore into the earth to join with the layout of the Morlocks!
Was watching this again today and thinking: Why couldn't Chris have built the layout a couple inches higher so that no slot would be needed for the computer screen ? At 2:01 it sure looks like he could have...Is there something not visible preventing this ?
Addendum: I kind of agree with '13thBear' below.. This is not really a switching layout as much as it's more a display of all or most his locos.. I'd have used the space where the turntable is for industries the yard (to our left) is serving. Then there'd be lots of switching activity. The locos could be stored somewhere and exchanged for ones ON the layout. I appreciate that we are all proud of our locos. But this is to me is not the best way to show this. No flaming here. Just a constructive criticism...MH
Is there any video where they explain how to install turnouts? I'm puzzled with the polarity reversal, insulated or uninsulated frogs and all of that.
do you mean turntables?
rva1945 I was wondering the same thing. I'm honestly so lost as to how they work.
I just manually switch them, it's not the most realistic, but it's a small price to pay for infinite hours saved wiring the damn things.
where do you get the triplecrown trailers?
l subscribed
was rely good
Check out my video, (Union Pacific Update 2011) it's a small layout, I have lots of storage under the layout. Plus I live in Omaha area. Nice video!!
I don't understand why people build bench work that could be a foundation for a house when a toy train weighs not more that ounces or a few pounds depending upon the scale.
Yay thank you!:D
Point 2 point... I never could figure out the use of!
Very nice! Very nice, I didn't catch your name but got your cousin Chris. I'm new to video postings but I uploaded a video named Caboose train pulling 17 Cabooses & would love for you to watch & comment saying what you think. Keep up the great work & I look forward to watching many more of your videos. Hey Thanks for the video!
How do u get that whit board thing
That's why I switched to n scale
Who makes the 765
Kinda cool but it doesn't go any where
What about O scale?
is he modeling an era or free-mo
Did I catch an Omaha in there?
good friends are hard to keep
You said this IS A HOW TO!
Can this work with n scale ? Plzz reply
Yes
It could maybe work with n scale, but you would need to learn the hexidecimal number system.....which is super easy.
i know thats right up rocks
