Love those historical photos of both of you together 30 years ago - wow stylish! Reminds me of the pictures of me and my bride 30 years ago as well! The Exuma's are so beautiful! Gorgeous sunset at Staniel Cay. Thanks for sharing!
Great video, love to see your clips from the past. You guys have a unique sailing channel and style. Much enjoyed on this frigid morning in Montreal, 🇨🇦 Watching your videos makes it's tough to wait 4 years before sailing away to this beautiful place 🤗
I was daydreaming in heaven until they landed in Nassau and the Atlantis hotel, then the nightmares began. The demons went away the minute they left that tourist trap. Yes, I've been to that hotel and Staniel key, but am mostly in "trance" when you guys sail at 5 knots thru the corals and sand banks!
Just perfection. I can no longer see to sail and watching your videos brings all the magical memories flooding back. Thank you so much your trips help keep my sailing memories alive.
2:05 One meter tide! I would kill for a one meter tide!. On a good day the tides will only be around 4.5 to 5 feet, but on a bad day they can be well over 7 feet, or over 2 meters by me here in NYC. I like that your boat has a swing keel. None of mine do. I delivered a Sabre 34 down the coast a few years ago and it had one. Your videos have made me think again about getting one. Thanks again for another great video!
Pretty much the same thing as a Cenote or sink holes in a Karst. The "hole" is made when the roof of an underground eroded cave collapses. Further erosion from above then can enlarge the hole.
What a great video. We’re looking forward to sailing to the USVI where we spent our honeymoon 28 years ago. When we finally make it that far, it will be 30 years for us too. Though I don’t have any pictures of me in an awesome speedo like yours Paul 😂🤣. You guys are the best.
Great channel and I am quite envious of the lifting keel Southerlys. Question: Can you use sonar, like the forward-looking units to help identify coral and distinguish it from seagrass?
I love how relaxed and friendly you both are, such pleasant vibes! Im curious what your favorite destinations are in the Bahamas? Top 5? Have you ever sailed the TCI area just south of the Bahamas?
*Did you find the Lusca in the blue hole 😁 We really envy your lifestyle, hearing that you have been there 30 years ago makes us remember our first trip in the Caribbeans, hope next time we will visit by sailboat*
Maybe a stupid question: Would a HQ HD Camera on the top of the mast be a maybe good support, when it comes to scary situations during Daylight sailing between those Coral-Hads in the yello banks?
Looking forward what if a carbon fibre telescopic pole could be raised from the mast top with a HD camera say +- 170 meter from deck for real time vision of under water obstacles as a substitute to a flying drone, this is possible with current technology?
The hole is round because it's a collapsed cave shaped like a dome. Ice age sea level was a lot lower 20 thousand years ago, and that hole was a dry cave.
I've got about the same history as you guys down there. My first sail over there was on a 4 foot draft Morgan 38 in 1987. The first time we crossed the Yellow Banks, I was pretty scared. It sounded really scary. But, now many years later, I have taken it as a mission to ask every single person I meet in the Bahamas if they know of anyone, who has actually hit a coral reef head on the Yellow Banks. I haven't found anyone yet, and I suspect there is more water over most of these coral heads than most people think. One day, I want to actually dive a few them and see. But, until then, we still steer around those ink blots when we see them!
@@DistantShoresTV , well that answers that! When I was younger, we would tow one of us behind the sailboat with a mask and snorkel, and we would try and sail directly over the coral heads. If the dragger spotted a lobster (usually just their antenna sticking out) he would let go of the tow rope and we would circle back around and dive on the coral head to get the lobster. It's just me and my wife these days, and I'm scared she wouldn't turn around and come back!
How can a person volunteer to be a hand on a boat during a crossing? I know only what I’ve seen and read regarding sailing, and I think being a hand would be a great way to learn.
ASA American Sailing Association has sailing classes everywhere, take the 3 day bare boat training course, then follow up with the coastal cruising course before you think about buying. And if you learn you love the mechanics of sailing, bare boat charter a few times before buying. I know people who get seasick at the dock and half the sailers I know don’t sail with their wives because they get sick always. It takes years to get instinctive at sailing and what you don’t know will kill you so take the proper steps to see if it is something you love doing, and if you don’t love it don’t buy a boat.
Troy Stanton , that information you just said is 100% right and I would go a little more and after all the course join yacht club and go on other yachts until you know what you want. Everyone is looking for crew at yacht club.
Cheers, mates.Terrific shows. Thanks for all the memories.
I love your videos, you were beautiful 30 years ago and you both are still fantastic, bravi. Un abbraccio dall’ Italia...😘
I have been an avid watcher of the distant shores when it was on Wealth of Entertainment TV. Glad to see you're on RUclips!
Great video. Nice to see a local perspective on island traditions.

Another Flawless video, We love your content.. it’s like watching a NatGeo film the way you both speak and present your video. Good job 👍💚💙
Thanks very much for the kind words😅💕
Such nice quality vids You make sailing classy. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.
I will be doing the same sail in a cat in June. Nice to know I can get to Staniel Cay from Allen’s in a day sail - that was my plan for day 2.
Great vid ya'll.
love the exumas overall, especially when we're expecting a major overnight dump in Ottawa.
Thanks for sharing 😊⛵️
Nice pictures, thanks a lot 😀👍

Nice vid. Thanks.
Really nice. 👍 👍👍

Great video again😀. Can you give an update on your Integral generator replacment system? Does it work as advertised? Thanks.
I love how relaxed and friendly you both are, such pleasant vibes!

Top 5?
Have you ever sailed the TCI area just south of the Bahamas?
Nicely edited video! On a cloudy day, can you still navigate and see the corals head? Thank you!
Yes Jean Erik you can still see well in a cloudy day especially if you wear polarizing sunglasses 😎

Where is the anchorage at 4:20? Can‘t find it in the maps 😞

Welcome to the Pacific.

About how long was the voyage from Allans to Staniel?

We actually did hit one on the passage between Exumas North to Eleuthera. Big bump😅
Distant Shores TV ,oh not good, did you video it ?

Yes please
I’m cruise ship is much different than a amazing sailboat
Are those Dacron sails. ? I like the reinforced fabric. where did u get them?
They are Elvstrom Epex exotic sails with a white covering to protect against UV❤️
More more more, please

If you still had the green stripped speedo...... Diving the blue hole might've been easier lol
Perhaps a meteorite created the hole! :)
I’m sure it’s been asked before but why haven’t you guys added favors for your dingy? You’d have so much more deck space under way.
Hi. I have been thinking about buying a sailboat. I have never sailed before but I did own a 33 foot Bertram for many years. Any recommendations?
do it

@@troystanton5681 Thank you Troy. Good advice I will follow.
@@CaptMarkSVAlcina Thank you Capt Chef.
Hole was a cave which collapsed. Cave formed by solution of limestone
I understand you are Canadian. You are sailing Distant Shores III under a different flag. What is the reason for that?
Sir what is that software, May i have name of that software
🙂👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻⛵
