I love your history injects. Makes this channel a real gem in the rough. I really enjoy your unpretentious channel, so many today try and make you feel as if their lifestyle is superior.
I think this is the third time I've seen this video (in the pass 8-9 months) and I am amazed every time I watch it! The clarity of the water along with the sandy bottom is just amazing! Thanks again for sharing!
I’m so glad to find you on RUclips. I remember watching your show on AWE network or lux tv whatever it may be called now. I really enjoy you sailing to different destinations especially the Caribbean and Bahamas.
Absolutely love your guys content, such knowledgeable sailors and wonderful people! My wife and I are planning to sail soon, just waiting for our kids to graduate matric and then, the world is our oyster while they hit university.
I've said it many times but this has too be one of the best cruising boats ever? Looks the part and the electric keel is a godsend. Discovery have taken on the building of southerly yachts now too.
Thanks MrRaychs. We appreciate your support! In this video we stayed the night (2 actually since we explored the area) and other times we just beach and stay an hour or so. If we intend to anchor and remain a while we plan a place where bad weather wouldn't leave us exposed...
Thanks for your great style of narration, and editing. Awesome content and educational. Your channel is very entertaining while teaching great facts. Thanks GOD BLESS YOU ALL 😇⚓🇺🇸
We are watching our first Distant Shores video and are quite impressed! The history and informative voice over is much appreciated! We saw you at Annapolis on Saturday and never made it over to say hi; now I'm regretting missing the opportunity to meet you. Perhaps at another sailing epicenter. The is for the amazing video! I'm sure we will watch them all and continue being big fans! ~ Josh & Jill
Distant Shores TV yes... we Will sail from Denmark. We live on a Island close to Norway/sweden, but want to expand our sailing-area a little bit ;-) We Will go Down to germany, crossing Biscay and Then to kap verde before crossing the Atlantic.
You guys have a fantastic boat! Your videos are amazing - very educational and it feels like they are done by a professional cameraman with great camera angles. Keep up the good work. We do appreciate your contribution to mass education.
So great that you take full advantage of your swing keel in the Bahamas. Going where other deep keel boats can not must be a real thrill. Obviously you need good visibility to read the water. Do you stay put on cloudy days? I loved that underwater bit about the trunk fish and the cleaner shrimp. Great underwater photography. Thanx.
Glad you liked it Bert! Yes you need good vis to do any trickier piloting. Surprisingly even on cloudy days you can see through the water especially if wearing polarized glasses. worst is going directly towards the sun when its lower on the horizon.
Just subscribed!! Love your vids!! :) Awesome and love your editing style!! I still have so much to learn looking at you guys :) Sailing and documenting the Canary Islands now. Hope to meet up one day :)
Really enjoyed this one as I had a sailboat with a lift keel and was able to explore many areas in the Canadian lakes..just wondering the price of your boat😃
Yes its a concern. But the boat is designed for it so there is an easy access water strainer for weeds etc. The prop shaft bearing is even looked after with a water injection to help keep it clear.
That swing keel is indeed nice over there. Is it true that the entire keel has to be dropped every 5-8 years on southerlies? Some 4000 usd operation? I guess it's a worthwhile thing, but at the same time... I dunno, I love the idea of lifting keels, but a centerboard with integral ballast seems a lot more secure and hassle free. I guess Allures would get a new customer if I had half a million in my back pocket...
We spent 9 years between Georgetown and Trinidad on a 45' Island Packet. How I miss it. You have a beautiful boat. Quick question. If you were just going to stay in the Caribbean, would you consider a catamaran?
love the boat but how does it behaves in deep water (mid ocean) sailing fast , and the steering it cant be as good as a fixed larger quills can it ? Great videos, congrats and fair winds
Distant Shores TV i imagine there is a bigger chance of rolling the boat in a storm i imagine, no ? i'm sorry i dont know much about sailing or experienced in boats (yet) that is my biggest concern about those very small quills, somehow it looks like it would roll a lot easier . great videos BTW and thanks for the answer
Hi Mark, manoeuvring as slow speed is more difficult with twin rudders. These boats all come with a bow thruster, and then I find it is quite controllable. Also then the boat can be controlled in reverse very well. Under way the rudders are excellent. Especially downwind since both rudders are submerged the boat handles very well.
As long as you have been making videos, you should have way more subscribers. Very 80's feel. Sailing La Vagabond has 225k subscribers and they have been sailing for 2-3 years. Food for thought....
Our TV show has been airing on Broadcast TV on numerous stations around the world since 1998. We have not been doing much on RUclips due to broadcaster restrictions, but are now starting to put more content up there. Hope you enjoy it!
Welcome aboard mystickid1! Glad you enjoy the videos! For voiceovers and interviews we use a pro Sennheiser ME66-ME64 K6 shotgun and use Soundtrack pro and Final Cut Pro for sound processing.
Hello! Congratulations on the great video. I'm trying on sailboats, I intend to live on a boat. I would like to know more about the model of this sailboat Could you tell me where I can get technical information about him?.
great stuff,I really like your videos. I can't help but mention though that those tiny mangrove out-croppings you point out aren't likely at all to be growing. Sadly with the rise in sea levels It is more likely the remains of a now retreating once-future mangrove..
Great video - brought back some good memories for me and got me excited for this year's return to the Exumas. I enjoyed the natural history info in your video and the underwater video. How exciting that you saw a sperm whale. Where are you currently sailing? S/V Mer Soleil
Thanks yes we're looking forward to our return to the Bahamas next spring! We're just back from seeing our new boat at Dusseldorf ... ruclips.net/video/z6hdTiLQ_8c/видео.html

This is incredible! RUclips is the one of the best schools ever, and you, sir, and a fine teacher. Thank you for the video.
I like how they teach you useful stuff, plus theirs no annoying loud music, well most of their videos.
Keep the good teaching coming.
Thanks Chess747 😊
Yes and they don't have the camera on them all the time. They narrate while showing beautiful scenery.
I am a Bahamian , I am from Abaco and I love your videos
I like the mapping and narration/explanations.
Rediscovering your videos..... when i was much younger your shows sparked my wanderlust to see our world... thank you for that!!
We just did our first trip to the Bahamas, can’t wait to go back
I think this is the third time I've seen this video (in the pass 8-9 months) and I am amazed every time I watch it! The clarity of the water along with the sandy bottom is just amazing! Thanks again for sharing!

I doubt you ever bought a boat. Another dreamer.
I've said it many times but this has too be one of the best cruising boats ever? Looks the part and the electric keel is a godsend. Discovery have taken on the building of southerly yachts now too.
Thank you beautiful water , felt like I was there with you guys thank you . God bless .
thank you for putting up these (much) longer video's ! , much appreciated
That is fantastic. I take it you don't back off at night .
I own several of your film packs. Keep them coming Really enjoy!
Thanks MrRaychs. We appreciate your support!

You two are wonderfull, Thanks for Sharing.
Our trip Will start in 2019, so we are in progress preparing the boat for crossing the Atlantic.
Thanks FIE 😊 Good luck with your preparations! Are you sailing from Scandinavia? We loved our travels there!
Distant Shores TV yes... we Will sail from Denmark. We live on a Island close to Norway/sweden, but want to expand our sailing-area a little bit ;-)
We Will go Down to germany, crossing Biscay and Then to kap verde before crossing the Atlantic.
We sailed to Cape Verde 1 year ago and are just editing that video now :-)

That was a cool video.
What a great boat for exploring the Bahamas. Where else would it show its qualities best?
She was fast on passage making nearly 180 miles a day on passage. 18 days transatlantic 2900 miles from the Canaries to St Lucia
super cool videos
Thanks 4.9cop!

Really enjoyed this one as I had a sailboat with a lift keel and was able to explore many areas in the Canadian lakes..just wondering the price of your boat😃
Were you ever concerned about clogging your water intake being in such shallow water with the possibility of sucking up silt or other small particles?
Yes its a concern. But the boat is designed for it so there is an easy access water strainer for weeds etc. The prop shaft bearing is even looked after with a water injection to help keep it clear.
I hope to buy one of those shallow draft boats one day SOON. If you have any leads send them my way.

Yes James, we would definitely look closer at cats if we stayed in Caribbean/Bahamas :-)
Awsome
👍👍👍 Thanks
JUST CURIOUS ABOUT THE MAKER OF YOUR BOAT. I LIKE SHALLOW DRAFT CRUISING. WATER BALLAST? IF SO, HOW DOES THAT WORK IN OPEN WATER?
love the boat but how does it behaves in deep water (mid ocean) sailing fast , and the steering it cant be as good as a fixed larger quills can it ? Great videos, congrats and fair winds
She has twin rudders which make her good downwind. We sailed across the atlantic in 18 days making nearly 180 miles a day... great for a 42 footer...
Is your centerboard retractable or vertices up and down? We had a centerboard and it would knock inside the trunk. Always waring out the rollers.
Our keel swings aft up into the boat. It weighs 2200kg and doesn't knock at all.
Hi Guys, nice vlog, just a thing about docking, how good or bad is it with twin rudders as the prop is not behind the rudders.
Hi and thanks for info.
Have you ever considered a mast top camera or a drone mounted camera?
We have used a camera up the mast quite a bit... not a drone yet though... worried about losing it overboard :-( But this year I think we will try
What type of keel is that. I've never seen one fold up like that
Maybe it's my pc,but I heard no audio. It would have been nice with a great video like this.
As long as you have been making videos, you should have way more subscribers. Very 80's feel. Sailing La Vagabond has 225k subscribers and they have been sailing for 2-3 years. Food for thought....

the Self ferling systems are great for Solor sailing but bastards when the foul or jam
Great Great videos Paul and Sheryl!!! Just found you. What microphone do you use for your voiceovers? Do you also EQ it?
Welcome aboard mystickid1! Glad you enjoy the videos! For voiceovers and interviews we use a pro Sennheiser ME66-ME64 K6 shotgun and use Soundtrack pro and Final Cut Pro for sound processing.

Thank you very much!
Hello! Congratulations on the great video. I'm trying on sailboats, I intend to live on a boat. I would like to know more about the model of this sailboat Could you tell me where I can get technical information about him?.
Lifting keel ?
did you need to pay anything for entry , or did you just float on in?
We got a cruising permit for the Bahamas on arrival (as I recall it was $300 for 6 months?). Then you don't need to check in at each island.
so Canadian!
same tho
Thanks Nick 😊
hi guys what size is your cat?
Cat? Our Southerly 42 in this vid is 42 feet long :-)
how can your boat go on the Beach don't you have a keel ?
I Just saw that your keel is retractable thats so cool sorry for the answer
Somebody somewheres going to think,,,, "there grounded". Ah haha
what kind of boat is that? brand?
She's a Southerly 42 - www.distantshores.ca/about-us/the-boats/southerly-42/
